The 'Dillowasafreetrolleythat ran in downtown Austin from 1984-2009. I say 'trolley' because thatswhat theylookedlike, and that's what we calledthem, but they werenot trulystreetcars. They did not have tracks,or overheadwires. Theywerejust citybusseswith weirdstyling, becausesomeoneat thecitythought that it would be funky andfun, I suppose.

Council Memo 8 5/10/84
Armadillo Express
Approved establishment of the ''Armadillo Express'' Downtown Shuttle as a permanent service of the Transit System.
At thi■ time a check for $5,000 was presented to the City for help in the continuance of the shuttle and Mayor Mullen read a proclamation to Mary Cooke who was the first citizen o "catch a dillo'' to ride. City Manager Carrasco said no additional funds for maintining of the shuttle will be needed.
