“I love getting to be hands-on and collaborating with my classmates. We do a lot of hands-on activities that mimic a real work environment. We also go on weekly field visits where we get to see real work opportunities and hear from alumni and business owners.”
Zahria Jones ’25 Fashion Merchandising & Retailing
In many JWU courses, you’ll learn through hands-on projects, actually doing the work of the discipline. Small class sizes, innovative lab spaces and mentorship from professors make it possible to engage in real-world work immediately.
AVERAGE CLASS SIZE
22 students
Your lessons will be in our hands-on learning labs, but they can also come in the form of working with local companies, teaming up with students from other majors on collaborative projects, visiting sustainable farms or even traveling around the world to study abroad. Experiential education is what we’re known for — and we’ve perfected it.
JWU professors come with years of experience and are often still active in their industries. Their credentials and expertise make them great teachers, but what sets them apart is their willingness to go the extra mile, act as a trusted mentor and share their stories and professional networks with you.
“Johnson & Wales has very experienced professors who have been out in the industry and want to teach students because they care, and they want to motivate people to do what they did. They are great leaders and great people in general, and they really push for their students.”
Miranda Hasani ’25 Sports, Entertainment, Event — Management
“Moving to Providence as a 17 year old from a smaller town was definitely a daunting experience. Once I toured it, I fell in love with this idea of being immersed in the city where people are going to their jobs and students are going to classes.”
Jake Beaton ’23 Marketing & Advertising
The city that surrounds our campus will also become your home. As a JWU student, you will live on campus for your first three years of study, allowing you to experience the best of Providence in a closeknit community. Providence was recently named the second most-walkable city in the country by USA Today — take a stroll and you’ll discover just how much there is to do right outside your door. You can visit the Providence Performing Arts Center for a show, check out some student-approved restaurants like Frisky Fries and Xaco Taco or take in the river views on the pedestrian bridge. Providence will be yours to discover.
“We have the best coaches in the country. They allow us to come in and express our love for wrestling every single day.”
Hayden Brown ’25 Business Administration
2025 NCAA DIII Men’s Wrestling Champion
Student clubs and organizations, varsity athletics and intramural sports offer the perfect chance to explore new interests, continue existing hobbies and — most importantly — meet cool people.
It’s easy to get involved from the moment you arrive at JWU. In the first week of fall classes, all clubs, organizations and teams recruit new members at the Student Involvement Fest.
