o By Mickey Gerellclc On this page, and throughout this issue of tho. Jewish Press are pictures of Omaha Jewry. Borne pictures aro very old; eome are brand new. All tho pic.turcs have been printed in this Bpecial issue to tell a very special story. The story Is about YOU and something the (scholars call "Continuity of Judaism." Here's how it nil happened.
We've heard a great deal In recent years about "Vanishing Jews" and "Irrelevant Religion." In fact this newspaper has carried the news items, the statistics, the scholarly predictions of the Demise of American Judaism. Each tlmo I read an item of this kind, I became increaaingly doubtful. I did not question the wisdom of tho scholars, nor did I doubt the accuracy of tho statistics. A problem existed, to bo Btire. At Uio kumi

scrapbooks and reports, thera was, to be sure, areas I found for regret. But for each Jewish child who "vanished" from Judaism In adulthood, I found scores more who carried nn with new vitality, the traditions of their fathers. Illustrations On these pages you will., see some pictorial illustrations of the continuity of Jewish life in our community. Be it in the ritual of lighting Hanuka candles or in the ceremony of Bar Mitzvah, the unique ideas and ideals of Judaism arc being transmit(Continued on Page 2)
