Trillium Health launches drive into AI-powered solutions BY J E R R Y Z E I D E N B E R G

rillium Health Partners recently broke ground on The Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital and Shah Family Hospital for Women and Children, a facility that will become the largest hospital in Canada upon its completion, scheduled for 2033. The new hospital, a 23-storey structure with over 950 private rooms for patients and 23 operating rooms, is designed to keep up with demand for medical services in one of the country’s most ethnically diverse and fastest-growing regions. Uniquely, Trillium Health Partners is also developing a wide range of AI-enabled technologies to provide healthcare services bet-

ter than ever before – not just in the new hospital, but community-wide. “Healthcare is getting more complex, and there’s a growing mismatch between supply and demand,” said Dr. Sam Sabbah, chief of staff at Trillium Health Partners. “We’re

ered solutions. Indeed, it has launched a $25 million fund-raising effort to this end, to ensure that it has the financial support it needs to produce the solutions it sees as most useful. “Some of the solutions will be used in the hospital, but our vision goes far beyond our walls,” said Dr. Sabbah. Already, the hospital’s team of approximately 60 developers involved in data, analysis and AI solutions has, among other things, devised an AI-enabled dashboard to track and help manage diabetes in the community – known as Peel Region. “We’ve created a diabetes dashboard that can tell us who is at risk for diabetes and developing complications,” said Dr. Laura C O N T I N U E D O N PA G E 2
