PACKAGING AND BRANDING: MORE THAN JUST A BOX

Packaging is often perceived as merely a functional container, a protective layer for products during transport and distribution. However, in today’s world, packaging is much more than that. It has evolved to become a key element in a company’s marketing and communication strategy. In an increasingly competitive market, packaging plays a crucial role in differentiating a brand, communicating its values, and capturing consumer attention. It’s the first point of contact between the product and the customer, and it often represents the first impression that forms in the buyer’s mind. For this reason, packaging design has become an art in itself, capable of influencing purchasing decisions and contributing to customer loyalty.

Modern packaging must meet a range of needs that go far beyond physical protection. It needs to be visually appealing, functional, and sustainable, but most importantly, it must communicate the brand’s identity. Good packaging is instantly recognizable and reflects the values the company wants to convey. It’s a vehicle for storytelling, capable of telling a story without words, using design, the materials, colors, and even the format. For example, minimalist, clean packaging can communicate a message of elegance and quality, while a more colorful, bold design might suggest a dynamic, youthful brand.

An emblematic case is packaging in the luxury sector, where aesthetics are often considered just as important as the product itself.

A well-known example is Apple products: the packaging is meticulously designed to offer an unboxing experience that lives up to the brand’s expectations. Attention to materials, the sound of the box as it opens, the arrangement of accessories—all these elements contribute to creating a moment of connection between the customer and the product, making the consumer feel part of something special. In this context, packaging is not just a means of protecting the product but becomes an integral part of the purchasing experience.

But packaging isn’t just about aesthetics. Another crucial aspect is its functionality. A good design must be practical, easy to use, and, at the same time, optimize space to reduce shipping costs and minimize environmental impact. Companies are increasingly investing in solutions

that are not only beautiful but also sustainable. The theme of sustainability is now one of the main drivers of innovation in the packaging sector. The use of recycled, biodegradable, or easily disposable materials has become a key element for many companies that want to position themselves as responsible brands with environmental awareness. This is especially true for brands targeting a young, conscious audience, for whom sustainability is a non-negotiable value.

Another aspect of packaging that deeply affects a brand’s image is consistency—visual consistency, of course, but also consistency in messaging. Packaging must be perfectly aligned with the rest of the brand’s communication, from advertising campaigns to website design. Everything needs to speak the same language. This consistency helps build a strong, recognizable identity that sticks in the consumer’s mind. In a world where we are constantly bombarded with visual stimuli and advertising messages, having a clear and distinctive identity is essential to stand out and be remembered.

Thus, packaging can be a powerful branding tool, but it must be authentic to truly work. Today’s consumers are more attentive and informed than ever and can quickly recognize a fabricated or artificial message. Packaging that promises sustainability but uses nonrecyclable materials risks seriously damaging the brand’s reputation. Therefore, companies must be transparent and consistent, not just in terms of aesthetics but also ethically.

Lastly, we can’t talk about packaging without mentioning the importance of interactivity. With the advent of new technologies and the integration of digital elements, packaging has become an interactive tool that can enhance the consumer’s experience.

One example is the use of QR codes, which allow access to digital content, explanatory videos, or exclusive promotions. This integration between physical and digital enables the brand to create a direct dialogue with the customer, enriching the buying experience and offering

content that can positively influence the perception of the product.

In conclusion, packaging is no longer just a “simple box,” but a fundamental element for building and promoting a brand. It’s a communication tool, a means of telling a story, a channel for connecting with the consumer, and a symbol of the company’s values. In an increasingly crowded market, good packaging can make the difference between a product that goes unnoticed and one that captures the attention and loyalty of customers. Being aware of this transformation is essential for companies that want to continue growing and standing out in an increasingly demanding and complex competitive landscape.

THE FUTURE OF MANUFACTURING

Cama Group on embracing Industry 5.0 and rolling out its Machine Enhancement Program to improve the productivity and sustainability of its secondary-packaging machines.

Cama Group is embracing this new era of industry. Its team believe we’re in the middle of a cultural change that redraws the boundaries between humans, machines, and artificial intelligence.

“Our goal is to make sophisticated systems simple according to the Industry 5.0 paradigm, which brings humans and machines closer together through interfaces, contextualised language, and shared goals,” says Head of Research and Development Massimo Monguzzi.

Generating solutions

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) and Generative AI (GenAI) are particular areas of interest for the team. According to Monguzzi, they have potential to improve products, processes, and services.

“From an initial curiosity, AI and GenAI have now become work tools. The first area has been the writing of software code, which is becoming increasingly high level. We are

rethinking the approach to programming to automate repetitive operations such as code writing,” he says.

Alongside code writing, the team are also using this technology to develop technical documentation such as manuals, technical files, risk analyses, and declarations of conformity, which are usually time-consuming to produce.

“In similar scenarios GenAI proves effective, even if it cannot replace human control, but it increases productivity. It also reduces errors and enables greater standardisation of technical content.”

To optimise its secondary-packaging solutions and make them more even efficient for its customers, Cama’s Research and Development division is developing algorithms to study machine data in depth and identifying correlations between operating parameters and performance.

Continual enhancement

These explorative projects run alongside Cama Group’s long-established Machine Enhancement Program, a continuous research and development process that aims to progress the company’s packaging machinery and robotic solutions through the introduction of “cutting-edge technologies”.

According to Sales Group Director Alessandro Rocca, the program has a strong focus on resource savings in terms of materials, energy, time, and space.

“The Machine Enhancement Program currently includes five fully operational systems and two modules in advanced development. It is a scalable platform that can be applied both to new installations and as a retrofit on existing packaging lines,” he says.

The five operational systems that are in use across Cama’s fleet of machinery are: augmented reality, digital twin, automatic format changeover, automatic carton loading, and automatic collaborative palletising. Each is designed to aid the production process for manufacturers and increase the performance of their packaging lines.

The first step of the Machine Enhancement Program is augmented reality, which is now a standard on all new machines and available as a retrofit on most recently installed bases.

Using a tablet to scan QR codes placed on different ma-

chine areas, operators can access a digital environment with step-by-step procedures, 3D animations, dedicated checklists, and specific documentation. Replacing traditional operating manuals, the goal is to save time, prevent errors, and simplify daily work.

“Augmented reality guidance makes even the most advanced machines easier to use. Every step is visualised and contextualised, reducing complexity and smoothing the learning curve,” says Rocca. The Cama team have identified human errors and downtime as being the two main weaknesses of packaging lines. To address these issues, they developed the automatic format changeover system.

In line with Cama Group’s continued focus on machine evolution, the research and development team are currently working on two new functions of the Machine Enhancement Program that are due to be introduced to the market soon.

“A twofold benefit follows: the customer obtains a stable process and rapid diagnostics, and Cama raises design standards thanks to the efficient use of data to create increasingly high-performing machines.”

These new technologies will be on display at Interpack 2026 in Dusseldorf, Germany, in May 2026.

COA 2.0: MINI MOTOR REVOLUTIONIZES PACKAGING WITH WIRELESS FORMAT CHANGEOVER

The packaging market has established the competitive advantage that characterizes successful companies. Versatility has been the challenge of the last five years, and format changeover, the real star of new operational projects, has enabled the most responsive companies to move into a new operating scenario.

In this sense, responsiveness is represented not only by the speed with which a line switches from one format to another, but also by the precision in the execution and replicability of the process.

Research carried out by Mini Motor, based on real cases from its customers, has guided the reinterpretation of integrated drive brushless gearmotors, which were created as intelligent components and are now optimized to meet the changing needs of format changeover.

Solutions for format changeover

The FC line incorporates the best features of the DBS integrated drive line, including a 32-bit multi-turn abso

lute encoder and communication with the main fieldbuses (Profinet, Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT, Powerlink, Modbus, and CANopen), but differs in its specificity for packaging lines thanks to its versions with orthogonal gearbox or linear actuator.

The innovative design of the rotary version is designed to guarantee double the speed for the same size, halving the time required for format changeover. Available in four sizes: FC3, FC6, FC10, FC20 depending on the required ratio, they are ideal for automating manual parts, also opening up numerous revamping opportunities.

The FCL line is available in the FCL100 and FCL200 variants, ideal for automating the movement of sides in linear format changes up to 200 mm. The FCLs are capable of delivering up to 200N and withstanding up to 5kg of axial load.

Can Over Air 2.0 is a proprietary Mini Motor technology that allows servomotors to be controlled without the need for communication cables.

The gateway, connected to the PLC via industrial fieldbuses, transfers communication to the motors, allowing multiple control units to be integrated.

Designed to receive incoming signals via Ethernet or CAN, COA is a secure and noise-resistant protocol that can adapt to the needs of modern automated and interconnected industrial systems.

In format change, this translates into greater ease of implementation of new components, with consequent advantages for scalability and line expansion.

The logic is essential: a concentrator, a radio network, Mini Motor motors with integrated communication, and the result is a network without fieldbus cabling, where devices communicate in real time and the layout of the system is no longer dictated by the passage of a cable or the presence of collectors.

You are investing in trade shows and foreign markets. What are your growth objectives, and what opportunities do you see in the international packaging sector?

We are determined to expand into international markets. Participating in trade shows and events allows us to strengthen our presence in Europe, North America, North Africa, and Asia, expanding our network of clients and partners. We aim to grow in sustainable packaging, responding to the increasing demand for innovative, lowimpact solutions. THE FUTURE OF PHARMACEUTICAL PACKAGING: BETWEEN SUSTAINABILITY, HIGH TECH AND GLOBAL MARKET PRESSURE

The pharmaceutical industry is one of the most innovative and biggest- selling sectors in the world. In 2024, the European pharmaceutical market generated sales of around 280 billion US dollars. In Germany alone, sales in the first quarter of 2025 totalled around 16.6 billion euros, making the country the largest pharmaceutical market in Europe and the fourth largest in the world. Alongside this, packaging technology is becoming more important: it is not only a means of safely storing and transporting medicines, but is also a key issue where sustainability is concerned.

When it comes to packaging, regulation plays a central role in the pharmaceutical industry; the Packaging & Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) is going to concern the pharmaceutical and medical technology sector, too,

in the long term. Although the regulation does not initially apply to the packaging of medical products and pharmaceuticals – transitional periods apply here until 2035 and 2040, respectively – the industry needs to take action now. The intensity with which it is already working on solutions will also be evident at interpack 2026 – from recyclable blister materials to digitalised production lines.

Recyclable materials for pharmaceutical products

More attention is therefore being paid to sustainability. Some solutions – such as reusable and refillable packaging – will be difficult to realise for pharmaceuticals, as will the use of recyclates, which is subject to strict regulatory limits. In the area of primary packaging, however, packaging and film manufacturers have already developed a range of sustainable alternatives in recent years,

for example for standard blister packs made of PVC and aluminium. Initial solutions are already on the market: moulded film and lidding film are made of PET or PP, or even paper- based materials with a barrier. In a joint project, four packaging companies have developed a polypropylene pharmaceutical blister pack that meets the strict requirements of the pharmaceutical industry. The material from PP blister film manufacturer Etimex was tested and optimised for practical suitability under realistic conditions on a modern blister machine from interpack exhibitor Uhlmann Pac-Systeme.

Many machine manufacturers have been busy focussing on the processing of sustainable packaging materials. Romaco produces blister packs made of recyclable PET monomaterial on its new Noack N 760 plate sealing machine. It achieves a maximum output of up to 150 blisters per minute when producing PET/PET blisters in four-lane operation. The universally applicable intermittent blister machine is suitable for packaging a very wide range of products, from solid dosage forms, ampoules and medical products through to semi-solid forms.

Digitalisation and robotics in the pharmaceutical process

The latest machine developments are characterised by modularity, automation and robotics. Many of these technologies were first presented to a wide audience of professionals at interpack and have been shaping production processes ever since.

Steriline technology ensures safe primary packaging for sensitive medicines. The company combines robotics with a 3D vision system (3D CPS) to reduce particle emissions and enable flexible, low- contamination production processes. The system recognises objects in the work area and adjusts its movements in real time, allowing for the replacement of conventional feeding systems such as hoppers or vibrating bowls. The 3D CPS was developed together with ISS – Innovative Security Solutions, a spinoff of the Politecnico di Milano. With this collaboration, the two companies aim to combine pharmaceutical process expertise with state-of-the-art robotics and image processing.

Christ Packing Systems is also focussing on innovation. The Ottobeuren-based company has been granted a patent for a new type of sealing unit developed specifically for the requirements of the pharmaceutical and medical technology sectors. Unlike conventional machines, which seal from below, the FilmTeq 250 seals from above. According to the manufacturer, this means that the sealing table remains unheated, which prevents the product from heating up and reduces the amount of cooling required. The top-down process also enables a more compact machine design with a smaller footprint.

Mechanical engineering companies such as Syntegon benefit greatly from the dynamics of the pharmaceutical market. In 2024, the company achieved record results driven by the increasing demand for complete aseptic solutions. This year, the system provider presented a new line concept for liquid pharmaceuticals, which was developed together with two partners from the pharmaceutical industry. SynTiso ensures faster aseptic transportation and up to 50 per cent shorter batch changes in a smaller space. With 100 per cent in-process control, up to 600 syringes, vials or cartridges can be processed per minute – a speed never before seen on the market, according to Syntegon. This is an important factor in vaccine production, among other manufacturing processes. The system is also suitable for filling ready-touse (RTU) containers.

Smart packaging: from NFC to functional labels

In addition to the ecological dimension, digital and functional added value continue to take centre stage. Packaging is increasingly being equipped with RFID chips, NFC labels and battery-free Bluetooth sensors to obtain real-time data on the location, temperature or condition of the packaging. Smart blisters can do even more: their sensors register the removal of individual tablets and thus record the dosing times. Security labels such as Securikett’s paper-based VOID labels offer important and sustainable tamper protection. In addition to tamper protection, they can be recycled together with the folding box they seal. Using electronic package leaflets not only saves paper, but also makes it easier for consumers to access information.

One thing is certain: companies that invest in research, a digital infrastructure and recyclable materials today will secure competitive advantages in the long term. PACKAGING CEASES TO BE PHYSICAL latest

how AI and Digital Twins are revolutionizing R&D

For decades, new packaging development was an empirical process: design, physical prototyping, lab testing, failure, and repetition. It was a cycle costly in both time and materials. Today, this paradigm is being overturned by virtualization. Packaging design is shifting from the physical lab to the digital twin, with Artificial Intelligence as its computational engine.

This revolution is happening on three levels.

The first is structural simulation. Using Finite Element Analysis (FEA), engineers can now virtually validate the mechanical performance of a bottle or box before it exists. They simulate drop tests, transport stress,

vertical compression strength (stacking/top-load), and even deformation during hot-fill processes. This allows for aggressive light-weighting, optimized to the microgram, reducing raw material use without compromising stability.

The second level is process and barrier simulation. Using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), it is possible to optimize a container’s design for filling (e.g., eliminating the “glugging” effect or foaming) or simulate the barrier performance (OTR/WVTR) of a new polymer or coating, shortening shelf-life tests that would otherwise take months.

The third and most advanced level is material informatics. Here, AI doesn’t just validate a design; it helps create it. By inputting desired parameters (e.g., stiffness, transparency, oxygen barrier, recyclability), machine learning models can analyze polymer databases and propose entirely new chemical formulations or lamination structures, optimized for a specific purpose.

The impact on time-to-market is disruptive. The ability to virtually test thousands of iterations in a matter of hours is transforming packaging from a manufacturing industry into a data-driven one. The true competitive advantage no longer lies just in the extrusion plant, but in the algorithm that designed it.

Bigger, more international and more motivating than ever: in December 2025, the interpack alliance trade fair duo will be inviting visitors to a very special edition in Cairo. With the tenth anniversary of Food Africa, growing international participation and diverse business impulses, the event together with a strong pacprocess MEA promises to be a real highlight in the international trade fair calendar.

There is much to celebrate at this year’s Food Africa and pacprocess MEA – and even more potential to reap. On 9 –12 December 2025, participants can look forward to an exhibition at the Egypt International Exhibition Center in Cairo that will focus on the African market with a strong impetus, international contacts and multifarious business opportunities. Recent news from equipment makers reminds us that Citus Kalix isn’t alone in helping move reliable manufacturing solutions into tomorrow. US-based FlackTek specializes in industrial technology premised on the physics of centrifugal acceleration. The company’s machinery is used in multiple industries to mix, disperse, homogenize, mill, de-gas, and more. And in July of this year, FlackTech introduced a 50kg version of its patented, dual-asymmetric centrifuge machine design.

In his comments to the press, CEO Matt Gross said that the new machine (now part of the company’s range of equipment that accommodates volumes from 200g through to 300kg), “is about more than capacity; it’s about flexibility. We’re committed to giving our customers more options to scale with speed, precision, and confidence. The 50kg system is another step in our mission to support agile, end-to-end production without compromise.”

Where digital technology and environmental sustainability intersect

Regardless of how traditional or transformative manufacturing technology is, environmental sustainability is a cosmetics industry priority. And

machinery makers play an important role in this regard. “The two biggest forces shaping our sector today are sustainability and digitalization,” says Filiberto Cacciari, Head of Customer Service and Marketing at Citus Kalix and ADMV. And Stefania Chen of Wish-Tech makes a similar observation saying, “automation works best when aligned with fast- changing consumer demands such as customization and sustainability.”

Cacciari explains further saying, “in recent years,” Citus Kalix has “seen a growing demand for sustainable and eco-friendly packaging, both in primary and secondary formats. Brands are increasingly interested in materials that are recyclable, lightweight, or sourced from renewable origins.

At the same time, luxury and premium packaging remain essential for high-end beauty, with protective features gaining importance especially for fragrances and skincare.”

With that in mind, Coesia Group (which owns Citus Kalix) implemented what it calls a “GREENMATION strategy… a production revolution that combines automation with eco-friendly solutions helping beauty brands stay efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable.”

Lorenzo Gatti of Marchesini Group Beauty shares a recent example of how that company also is supporting manufacturers’ sustainability endeavors. “The cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries have been steadily converging in recent years…. More and more cosmetics companies are expanding their product lines with personal care offerings in the form of food supplements,” observes Gatti when asked about the beauty-from-within

movement. And he goes on to tell me that “among the latest projects we’re working on is a solution for a client in the nutraceutical sector, with whom we’ve collaborated to support the transition from plastic trays to paper ones.”

“Switching from plastic to paper trays offers several advantages in terms of environmental sustainability, especially when it comes to transport efficiency.” Though changing materials involves a degree of complexity. “It’s a process,” says, Gatti, “that requires careful study and expertise—including [expertise] in robotics…. Our Group is able to offer tailored solutions for the nutraceutical industry, which sits at the intersection of pharma and beauty.”

PPWR: THE NEW EUROPEAN PACKAGING REGULATION TRANSFORMING THE FOOD INDUSTRY

From product manufacturers to machinery and film suppliers, all stakeholders across the value chain must adapt to a more demanding legal framework focused on sustainability, circularity, and reducing environmental impact.

The new Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), promoted by the European Commission and in force since 11 February, is not just a regulatory evolution — it represents a structural transformation that will impact the entire packaging value chain.How does this affect the food industry?

1.Redesign of formats and materials

The regulation will restrict or prohibit certain types of packaging widely used today: Non-recyclable multilayer films.

“Over-packaging” formats in single-dose or secondary packs. Single-use plastic packaging for food and beverages in the HORECA channel to be consumed in the premises. This compels food manufacturers to adapt the materials and structures used in their packaging.

2.Effective recyclability and mandatory recycled content

The regulation establishes that by 2030, all packaging must be designed for recycling and by 2035 all packaging shall be recycled at scale . It also sets for 2030 mandatory minimum percentages of recycled plastic content for both food and non-food applications (for example, rPET in trays).

This requirement directly impacts packaging design and film selection, with both technical (transparency, sealability) and economic implications.

3.Reuse obligations in specific channels

The PPWR will introduce minimum reuse quotas in sectors such as foodservice, delivery, and beverages. It will also promote the use of refillable or returnable packaging in retail, especially for bulk or fresh products.

For many food brands, this might mean developing two parallel packaging systems: one for the traditional disposable/recyclable channel and another for a new reusable packaging model.

4.Uniform labelling and mandatory eco-design

All packaging will require harmonised labelling across the EU clearly indicating: How to recycle the packaging. What material it is made from.

Whether it complies with eco-design or reuse criteria. This will affect the relationship between brands and consumers and will require complete traceability of materials and formats.

The end-of-line (EoL) has historically been the realm of rigid automation: case erectors, packers, and gantry palletizers built to handle millions of identical items. This model is collapsing under the pressure of SKU proliferation and the demand for flexibility. The answer is no longer just automation; it is adaptive robotics.

The key transformation is the shift from mechanical, cam-driven systems to servo-driven and vision-guided solutions.

In case packing, delta robots and VGR (Vision-Guided Robotics) systems are becoming the norm. Where a traditional system requires complex retooling, a 3D vision-equipped robot can identify randomly oriented products (like pouches on a belt) and adapt its grip

in real-time, handling different formats with zero downtime. In palletizing, 4- or 6-axis articulated robots have supplanted gantry systems. Quadpack has created caps and collars for the fragrance roll-ons of Neuraé, Sisley’s skincare brand based on neuroscience.

Neuraé is a new Sisley brand rooted in the connection between skin and emotions, enhancing positive feelings by focusing on well-being, energy, and serenity through a three-step routine. The packaging of the neurocosmetic products is masterfully designed, featuring glass jars and bottles with maple wood caps and collars from Quadpack, the international manufacturer and supplier of cosmetic packaging. Quadpack also developed its exceptional roll-ons, creating a wide range of containers designed to engage all senses. Neuraé formulas are composed of at least 95% natural ingredients. The range includes a serum and three face creams, complemented by roll-on fragrances called “Emotion Boosters.” The routine involves three simple steps: restore skin balance with the harmonizing serum harmonie; apply the face cream joie, énergie, or sérénité, depending on the desired mood; and enhance with the appropriate fragrance.

The brand is clear about its packaging goals and stated: “We aim to reduce our ecological footprint by using glass, recyclable plastics, and wood.” Quadpack’s wood experts collaborated with Neuraé to select the most suitable type of wood and finish. The company chose maple for its light surface and smooth, refined finish.

The collars and caps for the droppers, jars, and roll-ons were custom-designed and produced at Quadpack Wood’s facility in Spain, powered by renewable energy and a biomass plant fueled by production waste. Made exclusively from sustainably

managed forests, each wooden component is unique, with its own natural grain. Each cap was branded using a precise laserengraving process. The laser was meticulously calibrated to ensure shallow engraving, avoiding the typical burnt effect, making maple an ideal material.

The Emotion Boosters are conveniently sized for travel. The 6.5 ml glass bottles were lacquered and decorated with singlecolor screen printing. Each variant’s roller applicator features a gemstone: jade for énergie, rose quartz for joie, and amethyst for sérénité. Here too, the cap is made of maple wood.

Overall, the combination of natural wood, glass, and gemstones enhances the sensory appeal of the range, supporting Neuraé’s mission to “nourish the skin and promote well-being.”

There is much to celebrate at this year’s Food Africa and pacprocess MEA – and even more potential to reap. On 9 –12 December 2025, participants can look forward to an exhibition at the Egypt International Exhibition Center in Cairo that will focus on the African market with a strong impetus, international contacts and multifarious business opportunities. What is, today, the most

important platform for the food and packaging industry on the continent and in the MEA region is organised by Messe Düsseldorf, together with local partners IFP Group and Konzept.

A special highlight this year is the tenth anniversary of Food Africa. What began as a regional trade fair in 2015 has, within a decade, established itself as the leading trade platform for the food and beverage industry in Africa. Today, it is the meeting place for international key players, exporters, buyers and political parties who drive innovation, trade and partnership in the region.

The sixth edition of pacprocess MEA will be taking place parallel to Food Africa. As part of the interpack alliance, it is firmly anchored in a global network and has developed

into the leading marketplace for processing, packaging and printing technologies and packaging materials in the region.

Beyond the food and beverage industry, international buyers from other user industries such as pharmaceuticals and cosmetics are also reached.

Focus on business and international cooperation

The figures speak for themselves: both events are already almost fully booked – with significantly more international exhibitors and newcomers than ever before, totalling over 1,000 exhibitors from 35 nations. Visitors from fastgrowing markets such as Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa are specifically targeted in order to strengthen dialogue across the entire continent.

The strong business orientation is supported by the Hosted Buyers programme, which last year brought over 500 buyers from 70 countries to Cairo. The B2B matchmaking platform also promotes business: in 2024, over 5,500 meetings were arranged in this way. Both trade fairs also offer a conference programme with key players from the industry.

Multipliers such as the World Packaging Organisation (WPO), the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the VDMA Food Processing and Packaging Machinery Association

are involved. Both events profit from support by local businesses, public authorities, associations and Egyptian governmental organisations. This also applies to the German Federal ministries, which support exhibitors on behalf of the German government and offer them the opportunity to present themselves at the German pavilion. Further international pavilions are planned for Turkey, Jordan and China as part of pacprocess MEA.

FACEGLOSS PACKAGING COMBINES RECYCLABILITY AND

Launching a new cosmetic brand in such a competitive market is no easy feat. facegloss appeared on the scene in October 2023 with a full range of skincare products. Four months later, the Spanish brand found itself at the top of the charts, acclaimed on social networks and high-profile media. A key factor in its success is the beautiful recyclable packaging developed by the international cosmetics packaging manufacturer and supplier Quadpack.

Anna Arbós – founder, cosmetic coach and “skinfluencer” –already had a loyal following on social media as “Glow by Anna”. Creating facegloss was the realization of a dream; Anna has brought together all her knowledge in the creation of a range of highly performing and affordable skincare products, aimed at the millennial audience. With €220,000 in funding and the right partner network, they turned to Quadpack for the packaging of various products such as Cloud cleansing mousse, Chill toning and emollient spray, Superglow antioxidant serum, Glasskin all-in-one serum and the Feels Like Water moisturizing cream.

Quadpack has created a simple and refined range, in different formats, customizing some of its flagship items such as the Skin-Up bottle and the Regula glass jar as well as an excellent foamer and a nebulizer spray. The caps and pumps were decorated with a pastel lilac injection while the

bottles and jars remained transparent but with a light touch of color, to highlight the formula inside.

For facegloss, sustainability is a fundamental factor, a part of its philosophy and its way of being. The packaging materials – polypropylene (PP), polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and glass – were in fact chosen based on their recyclability.

GIFLEX AND IPACK-IMA RENEW THEIR PARTNERSHIP FOR 2026–2028

Giflex and Ipack-Ima have signed a renewed partnership agreement for the 2026–2028 period. The signing took place today in Rome, during the Autumn Congress of the Flexible Packaging Group, titled “Flexible Packaging: Minimalist by Nature”, running until Friday, November 7.

“We are renewing the partnership with Ipack-Ima after three years of solid collaboration because we need places and platforms where packaging can be valued in terms of collective trust. It’s no longer enough to talk about it only as a highly innovative and specialized product — it must become the centerpiece of a broader conversation within an integrated supply chain,” said Alberto Palaveri, President of Giflex, on the sidelines of the celebratory event.

Building on the record-breaking results of the 2025 edition — over 1,300 exhibitors, 70,000 visitors, and 40 international events — attention now turns to IPACK-IMA 2028. The fourth and final day of GLOBAL PACK 2025 wrapped up an impressive event that showcased the strength of the packaging industry and the importance of technological and business outreach. Visitor interest remained high, with the Metropolitan Expo once again hosting a large number of professionals from Greece and abroad.

The final day provided an opportunity to finalize key commercial agreements initiated during the exhibition. Exhibitors made the most of the remaining hours for follow-up meetings, while new collaborations also emerged from networking discussions in common areas and thematic stages.

Visitor flow at GLOBAL PACK 2025 remained steady throughout the event, with professionals from a wide range of sectors—including Food & Beverage, Pharmaceuticals, Cosmetics, Industrial, Construction, and Agricultural products—filling the halls of the Metropolitan Expo. Exhibitors seized the opportunity to engage with top decision-makers, presenting innovative solutions, specialized machinery, and high value-added services. These discussions led to new profitable commercial agreements, further strengthening the sector’s momentum and international outlook.

The international dimension of the exhibition was significantly enhanced through the Hosted Buyers program, which facilitated hundreds of targeted B2B meetings between Greek companies and international buyers. Companies aiming for global expansion found fertile ground for strategic partnerships, promoting knowledge exchange and building long-term relationships with partners from around the world.

The day’s Packaging Inspiring Stage program included workshops and presentations focused on practical applications of technology in packaging. Participants had the chance to engage with experts on the challenges and opportunities facing the industry.

Speeches highlighted the importance of transitioning from branding to rebranding, in response to modern market demands. Special emphasis was placed on the added value that printing can offer, enhancing brand identity and creating a unique consumer experience.

GLOBAL PACK 2025 concluded on a positive note, leaving a strong mark on the industry. Participants departed with new ideas, contacts, and growth prospects, while plans are already underway for the next edition, aiming for even greater internationalization and thematic expansion.
