Welcome to a new Girl Scout year!
We’re so glad you’re here. Thank you for being part of our amazing Girl Scout family. Whether this is your first year or your tenth, your support makes all the difference. To our families who volunteer their time and talents—thank you. You’re helping girls grow, lead, and shine in ways that truly last a lifetime.
There’s so much to look forward to this year! We’re thrilled to celebrate the opening of the new high ropes course at Camp Birch Trails, a big leap (literally!) in outdoor adventure and confidence-building. We’re also launching our Super Troop Year Plan Program, where troops can earn a special patch each month while having fun and trying new things together. And for our Daisy and Brownie leaders, our new Experience Boxes are packed with ready-to-go activities to make meetings easier and even more fun.
Girl Scouting is truly a family experience, from lending a hand with the troop to joining events, exploring the outdoors, or cheering on your Girl Scout at cookie booths. There are so many ways to get involved. This year, we encourage you to share the value of Girl Scouting with your friends, neighbors, and networks. Invite others to join in the adventure, whether that’s signing up a new Girl Scout or stepping up as a volunteer. Every family connection helps Girl Scouting grow stronger.
As we begin another year, I hope you’ll take time to celebrate all the little moments—new friendships, big laughs, brave firsts, and lessons learned along the way. These are the experiences that shape who our Girl Scouts become.
Thank you for being part of the journey. Here’s to a year filled with courage, confidence, and connection!

Girl Scouting is a family experience, with countless ways for everyone to get involved beyond troop activities. From programs you can do as a family, travel opportunities with your Girl Scout, volunteering with your troop, or taking advantage of Member Perks, check out this issue of Family Connection for exciting ways the whole family can join in the fun! Girl Scouts is more than an activity—it’s a Movement dedicated to building girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. Girl Scouts is a way of life that brings out the best in your girl, even in the most challenging of times. While they’re learning about STEM, the outdoors, entrepreneurship, and important life skills, Girl Scouts are also discovering new ways to make their family and community stronger, kinder, and better for everyone. We aim to make sure girls are given the opportunity to reach their full potential by developing values and skills that will lead them to happier lives.
Did you know?
8 in 10 families say they value being part of the larger troop community. 83% of families say Girl Scouts connects them to something bigger.
Our Super Troop Year Plan aims to simplify the volunteer experience, offering troop meeting suggestions for September through May, as well as for summer. It’s a monthly plan that includes a fun-filled combination of badges, awards, field trips or travel, just-for-fun activities or parties, family outings, and skill-building challenges specifically chosen to be easy to deliver and create a well-rounded Girl Scout experience for your troop.
The ideas in the booklet provide flexibility to utilize other resources for planning a fantastic year of meetings, or it can serve as a one-stop shop for everything you need. On the planning pages, fill in your plans for each month to make sure you are well-prepared for a successful year. No matter how you plan or the levels of your Girl Scouts, get them involved in what they want to do, and keep your meetings engaging and girl-led.
Bonus: This guide works with troops of all levels, including multi-level troops.

To help you along, we’ll give you free fun patches to reinforce the pride your Girl Scouts will have in exploring each topic area. Visit this page each month to share the activities you’ve done to earn free patches for your troop. The deadline to request each monthly patch is the last day of the month following the month in which GSNWGL scheduled the patch.
• If your troop completes ten activities from the Super Troop Year Plan booklet this year, they are qualified to be a Super Troop and to receive the free Super Troop patch!
• Your troop can become a Super Troop by doing the ten activities in any order.
• Note: To receive the free monthly patches, troops must complete the activities in their scheduled months.

Volunteers and Juliette caregivers can find complete meeting plans, supply lists, and requirements to earn all Girl Scout badges in the Volunteer Toolkit.
Badges are about the learning process, and the activities can be flexible based on your Girl Scouts’ ideas and the resources available in your community. You don’t have to complete the requirements exactly as written!
This guide is for all levels, including multi-level troops. Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador troops might want to expand on some of the ideas for a more age-appropriate experience. Hint for older Girl Scout troops: Give the guide to your Girl Scouts with instructions to use it to choose and plan their monthly troop activities. They can do the planning!
Council

Start your Girl Scout year off right by engaging families and helping your Girl Scouts plan their year.

One of the things our Girl Scouts want to do most is go on field trips. This month, get out into the community!

Service to others is one of the most important Girl Scout activities. Make our world a better place by volunteering in your community.

Badges and awards help Girl Scouts explore the world and gain lasting life skills. Girl Scouts are proud of learning new things.

Cookies & Entrepreneurship September: Planning & Family Kick-Off
The world-famous Girl Scout Cookie Program is the world’s largest girl-owned business, and it teaches our Girl Scouts real-life business skills.

Doing at least one Girl Scout STEM activity results in higher levels of interest, confidence, and understanding of the value of STEM to society.

STEM March: Girl Scout Traditions
You’ll be hearing from the Girl Scout council throughout the year like when we share information about the cookie program and summer camp programs. Have questions about your Girl Scout's experience? Just ask! We're here if you need us. We are available at 888.747.6945 or info@gsnwgl.org. October: Field Trips & Travel November: Service Projects December: Life Skills
Girl Scouts began on March 12, 1912, and has been a sisterhood ever since. Try a long-standing tradition that makes Girl Scouting special.

April: Outdoor Activity or Overnight Trip
Through progression, Girl Scouts learn the skills they need to become competent in the outdoors, from simple skills to outdoor adventures.

This month, celebrate the accomplishments of the year and have some fun!

Celebrations Summer: Love the Outdoors & Summer Camp
Summer is for fun! Most Girl Scout troops opt for outdoor activities or fun, casual events over the summer.
The world needs more creative problem-solvers—and this program helps Girl Scouts become just that. Solutions Superstar invites Girl Scouts of all grade levels (K–12) to tackle real-world challenges through six fun, hands-on activities.
From planning cookie delivery routes to inventing new gadgets, they’ll build key skills like creative thinking, teamwork, and problemsolving—skills they can use in school, their communities, and beyond—while getting a peek into how logistics keeps the world moving.
The Future Focus section of each activity will also help girls connect what they’re learning to real-world careers, opening their eyes to exciting possibilities in fields like logistics—an industry where women currently make up just 41% of the workforce. Made possible by DHL Supply Chain.
Now it’s time to choose your challenge! Choose any three of the six activities that follow to practice solving problems with logistics.

Map Your S'more
Follow the journey of a snack.
Engineer It: The Egg Challenge
Protect a fragile delivery.
Design a Maze
Make your own action code.
All Aboard the Cookie Express
Plan your cookie route.
Tour Like a Rock Star
Schedule a superstar tour.
Invent the Future
Design something brilliant.
The graham crackers in your s’mores started as wheat growing in a field. Every product at home had a journey—and lots of people helped make it happen.
How to Map It:
1. Grab a big piece of paper and something to draw with.
2. Draw a map showing how wheat turns into flour, then into graham crackers.
3. Add a path showing how the crackers traveled to your home.
You just mapped a supply chain—the path a product takes from raw materials to your door!
Future Focus: Careers in the supply chain include Warehouse Managers, Truck Drivers, and Engineers who make the whole process better.
Tour Like a Rock Star
You’re the tour manager for your favorite singer, and they want to play shows in Columbus, Chicago, Memphis, Detroit, and one city of your choice (maybe your hometown).
Your Mission:
1. Figure out the best travel route linking all five cities.
2. Design a cool tour poster with all the concert dates and locations.
Planning a route isn’t easy—you’ve got to think about the big picture!
Future Focus: If you love planning trips, you might enjoy being a Route Planner, Travel Consultant, or Event Planner.
Delivering Girl Scout Cookies is super fun—but the faster you do it, the more time you’ll have for adventures with your troop.
Your Mission:
1. Draw a map of your neighborhood and mark five cookie drop-off spots.
2. Plan the shortest route to deliver to all five—what’s the best path? Why?
Every stop changes your route, so think smart!
Future Focus: Loved this? Check out careers like Transportation Manager or Logistics Coordinator.

Codes and symbols help people move quickly and safely through a maze of paths and challenges.
How to Play:
1. Use removable tape in several colors to make a pattern of shapes or colors on the floor.
2. Pick an action for each symbol, like "wave" for blue or "sing" for a star.
3. Move through your maze a few times. Does it get easier each time? If you get stuck, try changing a symbol to make the maze simpler. Can't do it on the floor? Make a paper version!
You're a-maze-ing! A real-life example of symbols and codes that keep things moving smoothly in the "maze" of life are traffic lights and bar codes.
Future Focus: Robotics Engineers and Compute Programmers create codes like these every day.
Have you ever gotten something fragile in the mail? How was it wrapped? Use what you've observed to protect a raw egg from breaking when tossed.
How to Play:
1. Grab supplies like cotton balls, bubble wrap, paper, tape, and cardboard.
2. Pack your egg carefully—but don't waste materials! Use only as much as you think you absolutely need.
3. Toss the package and see if your egg stays safe.
Solutions Superstars always look for better, more eco-friendly ideas—like the sustainable packaging you just used to protect a fragile item!
Future Focus: Robotics Packaging Designers create safe, stylish packages. Quality Control Inspectors make sure a product looks and works perfectly.
Technology makes life easier, safer, and more fun—think watches, scooters, and electric toothbrushes. What would you invent?
How to Create:
1. Pick a process or an item at home, school, or in your community that could use a fix.
2. Draw an invention to fix the process or item. You could also build a model using recycled materials, tape, scissors, and string.
You've just made a prototype—an early version to test how your invention works and what you'll need to build it for real. Be proud—you're a future inventor!
Future Focus: Love creating cool gadgets? Check out careers like Industrial Engineer, Software Developer, Product Designer, or Architect.
You've put your brainpower to the test and showed off some seriously awesome problem-solving powers. The world needs more minds like yours. Now it's time to reflect on everything you accomplished.
Where do you think you can use your superpowers? (Check all that apply.)

Inventing something new Helping others
With your friends
When you step in to help your Girl Scout, she’ll see you in a whole new light—not just as her parent or family member, but as part of her adventure. When you volunteer with Girl Scouts, you help create a space where girls can truly be themselves. You’ll watch them take on challenges, lift each other up, and build confidence that lasts a lifetime, all through fun, friendship, and community. You don’t need special training or experience, just a willingness to show up and support girls as they explore the world around them.
At Girl Scouts, we believe every girl’s success is rooted in a circle of support, and that includes you. Whether you have an hour, a weekend, or a special skill to share, your time makes a lasting difference.
We invite each family to contribute at least five hours of their time each year to troop support. It’s not just about helping, it’s about being there as your Girl Scout discovers who she is and who she can become.
When you reach out to your troop leader, share how you’d like to help. Saying “whatever you need” is kind, but being specific helps leaders put your talents to great use.
Every small act adds up to big impact. Here are just a few ideas to get started:
• Share your passion for the outdoors, STEM, entrepreneurship, or life skills
• Drive for field trips or events
• Return forms, calls, and emails promptly
• Be on time for drop-off and pick-up
• Organize snacks or help plan a party
• Take photos and share memories
• Babysit for other volunteers’ children
• Teach a craft, song, game, or skill

Volunteers are the heart of Girl Scouts. They dedicate their time, energy, and care to creating meaningful experiences for girls, and even a simple gesture of gratitude can mean a great deal.
• Just say it! A smile and a “thank you” go a long way.
• Send a thank-you note (from your Girl Scout or from your family, or both!).
• Nominate a volunteer for a Volunteer of Excellence Award.
• Coordinate a small gift or gesture of appreciation from troop families.
• Or, the best thank-you of all—lend a hand yourself.

Think back to when you were a kid. Who inspired you? Who listened, encouraged, and believed in you? You can be that person for today’s girls. Your talents can help them shine. And along the way, you’ll grow too.
• Experience the joy of being a role model and mentor.
• Discover your own leadership style as girls discover theirs.
• Meet new people and make friends in your community.
• Feel the pride of helping create a world where everyone has a seat at the table.
• When you give a little of your time, you give girls the world.

We are here to make your first year as a Daisy or Brownie Girl Scout troop leader easy and fun!
New Daisy leaders (K–1) or Brownie leaders (2–3) receive complimentary monthly Girl Scout Experience Boxes delivered right to your door. Filled with practical script suggestions, step-by-step instructions, and supplies that make meeting planning a breeze.
Receive a Welcome Box and up to seven monthly boxes, depending on your troop's start date. Learn more at girlscouts.org/gsbox.

Girls as young as 5 years old report hearing the women in their lives talk negatively about the way they look, something that becomes more prominent as they get older.
The Body Appreciation badge line is all about helping girls see their bodies in a whole new way. It guides Girl Scouts to appreciate everything their bodies can do—from breathing and thinking to running, dancing, and creating. Through fun, age-appropriate, and progressive activities, Girl Scouts build confidence, practice self-care, and start lifelong habits that support both physical and emotional well-being.
Girl Scouts get to move for fun, celebrate what makes them—and others—unique, and embrace their authentic selves. Along the way, they’ll explore how to set healthy boundaries and handle pressures from society, media, and peers—all while learning how to lift others up and create a culture of kindness and respect.

We’re thrilled to introduce a new department dedicated to the Girl Scout Teen Experience, a focused effort to create more opportunities for adventure, travel, leadership, and personal growth for Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador Girl Scouts. From earning Highest Awards to shaping the future through teen advisory roles, this team is all about amplifying the voices and experiences of older Girl Scouts.

This summer, an incredible group of Girl Scouts grabbed their passports and joined GSNWGL on an overseas adventure to London and Paris! From exploring historic landmarks in London to sampling delectable pastries in Paris, our Girl Scouts experienced firsthand what it means to be a global citizen.
“Over my trip to London and Paris, I enjoyed being with my friends all the time and being able to experience all new cultures,” says traveler Carley L. “In a new part of the world, there was so much to see and so many different people, and it was cool to see how much people could be just like me and so different from me. I especially liked Disneyland because it was like a transition; it felt like I was just at a busy area in the U.S., not in Paris.”
Our Adventure Bound Crew travel program offers Girl Scouts the opportunity to explore the world with their Girl Scout sisters, helping them prepare to be more than just tourists when abroad. Starting around six months prior to departure, all our travelers participate in a series of virtual meetings that cover topics such as navigating airports, understanding cultural differences, using and exchanging currencies, being a conscientious traveler, and more.
Travelers don’t just see new places; they gain the confidence, curiosity, and courage necessary to be global-minded citizens.
Since our travel program began in 2022, we’ve helped 183 Girl Scouts visit places such as Italy, Austria, England, France, Germany, and Panama. Want to secure your ticket on our next adventure? Check out our upcoming travel opportunities and enroll today!
GSNWGL’s Girl Advisory Board (GAB) is made up of passionate Girl Scouts in grades 8–12 from across our council who meet regularly to share ideas, provide feedback, and help guide council decisions. From improving programs, suggesting enhancements, and advocating for what our members need, these Girl Scouts are making a real difference. "GAB is an amazing opportunity to grow your leadership skills! I love to ensure that girls get a voice in executive decisions!"
—Jasmine J., GAB Executive Co-Chair
GAB isn’t just about sharing opinions; it’s about learning leadership in action. Members practice leadership roles within the group, learn how parliamentary procedure works, and exercise their public speaking skills—all while embracing sisterhood moments with other older Girl Scouts.
GAB gives Girl Scouts an authentic voice in shaping the future of our movement! Want to join the conversation? Submit an application today!

“Working on my Gold Award pushed me to meet and work with new people,” says Gold Award Girl Scout Sienna K. “It makes you think in a more innovative manner, which helped me further my leadership skills. I would strongly encourage others to challenge themselves in earning this award.”

Over the past few years, we’ve been working hard behind the scenes to bring new heights to members—and it’s time for the big reveal: a brand-new 35-foot-high ropes course and equipment shed at Camp Birch Trails in Irma, WI. This exciting moment in time is made possible by the incredible generosity of GSNWGL alum Linda Levin (Murphy), Kay MacGregor (Stretch), and Linda Stoll (Skipper), along with the numerous GSNWGL team members working together to get the course installed.
To celebrate, we honored our charitable alum with a private ribbon-cutting ceremony and naming of the high ropes course as “Pete’s Perch” (after Murphy & Stretch’s adventurous cat!) and “Skipper’s Shed.” Additionally, Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors joined our kick-off event on October 18 and were among the first to bravely explore the course!
This impactful property enhancement represents a significant step forward in creating more adventurous and confidence-building opportunities for members, demonstrating our collective investment in the future of Girl Scouts.
