Dear residents, business leaders and visitors,
On behalf of the City and our Chamber of Commerce, I’m proud to share the 20252026 North Ridgeville Magazine
This edition, produced by Cleveland Studios and supported through the generosity of our local businesses and advertisers, serves as a celebration of what makes our community thrive.
This year, we shine a spotlight on North Ridgeville’s many civic organizations that turn ideas into action. They host events and create opportunities to connect, learn and give back. Their work reminds us that meaningful progress comes from those willing to step forward, and how much can be accomplished when people work toward a common purpose.
Our local businesses are another driving force. In these pages, you’ll meet six new businesses adding fresh energy, products and services to our community.
You’ll also meet the Faces of North Ridgeville — those you might recognize as volunteers, business owners or both. Their generosity and commitment help shape the city we’re proud to call home.
I invite you to explore these stories and discover new ways to get involved. Also, stay informed by signing up for our monthly e-newsletter online at nridgeville.org — it’s your direct link to city news and events. You can also join us for Coffee and Conversation, visit nridgeville.org, follow our City of North Ridgeville Government Facebook page and watch my weekly video updates for the latest developments.
Our success is built by those who choose to engage, contribute and work together for the greater good. Let’s keep moving forward — together.
Sincerely,
Mayor Kevin Corcoran
Connecting Through Community
North Ridgeville is strengthened by the dedication of its many civic organizations. By
Sarah Webb
North Ridgeville is more than just a place to live — it’s a community built on connection and service. From volunteer-led initiatives to longstanding service clubs, the city is home to a wide variety of civic organizations that bring people together, strengthen neighborhood bonds and make a lasting impact. These groups work quietly yet powerfully behind the scenes — organizing events, lending helping hands and fostering a welcoming spirit that sets North Ridgeville apart.
NORTH RIDGEVILLE LIONS CLUB
The North Ridgeville Lions Club has roared in support of local and international communities since receiving its charter in 1961.
“We are proud to be part of such a supportive and vibrant community,” says Angela Finney, president. “The citizens of North Ridgeville have consistently embraced our events and projects, helping them thrive year after year.”
Part of the global Lions Club nonprofit, which was originally focused on vision care and blindness prevention, the North Ridgeville chapter also rallies behind causes such as diabetes awareness, pediatric cancer support and hunger relief.
In North Ridgeville’s schools, the club offers vision screenings, affordable eye exams and glasses, scholarships for seniors and mini grants for educators.
To keep those initiatives funded, the North Ridgeville Lions Club hosts the following events:
• January: Night At the Races
In this feature, we’re proud to shine a light on the organizations and individuals who dedicate their time and talents to enriching our community. Whether you’re looking to get involved, support a cause close to your heart or simply learn more about the people making a difference, this is your invitation to discover the heartbeat of North Ridgeville.
• March/April: Pancake breakfast with the Easter Bunny
• May: Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony (in partnership with VFW Post 9871)
• August: Annual 5K Run/Walk for pediatric cancer research
• September: Drive-Thru Food Drive for Community Care
• December: Annual toy drive for families in need
But it doesn’t stop there. Yearround, used eyeglasses are collected and delivered to Student Volunteers of Optometric Services to Humanity at The Ohio State University. There, prescriptions are determined, and the glasses are sent to underdeveloped countries to restore sight for children and adults. northridgevillelions.org
ROTARY CLUB OF NORTH RIDGEVILLE
Part of Rotary International, the Rotary Club of North Ridgeville comprises community and business leaders whose mission revolves around resolving challenges in the local community and communities worldwide, says Cathy Kingsley, president.
“Being a member of the North Ridgeville Rotary means being able to support our community, making it a stronger and better place to live,” Kingsley says. “We offer our members opportunities to make a difference — to get involved.”
The Rotary Club has participated in service projects around the city, such as proffering student scholarships, preparing tote bags with essential supplies for unhoused individuals, supporting Connecting for Kids events at the library, supporting the annual Fishing Derby for the special needs students in North Ridgeville schools and more.
Events throughout the year include:
• March: Spring Fling
• March/April: Easter Egg Hunt
• October: Purse Bingo
Kingsley adds, “Along with these opportunities to serve, members also are able to regularly network, resulting in lifelong friendships and business connections.” northridgevillerotary.org
KIWANIS CLUB OF NORTH RIDGEVILLE
With a motto of “changing the world, one child at a time, one community at a time,” the North Ridgeville chapter of the Kiwanis Club is doing just that.
Founded in 2010, the club has headed the following efforts in North Ridgeville:
• Creating healthy after-school snack bags through Community Care
• Sponsoring service leadership programs such as Key Club for high schoolers, Builders Club for middle schoolers and K Kids for grade schoolers
• Putting on a reading program at the library where kids receive a free book
• Donating eight Amtrak bicycles to North Ridgeville Schools to support kids with special needs
“We were trying to look at the needs of the community and see what we
could do to help the kids,” says Toni Krone, president of the Kiwanis Club of North Ridgeville.
Locking everything into place, the Key Club assists with the club’s annual spaghetti dinner by washing dishes and making meatballs. The annual fundraiser is held the first Saturday in March.
The club also fundraises at the Corn Festival and hosts an annual Doggy Contest, in which participants can enter dogs in an online competition. The top three dogs ride in the Corn Festival parade and receive a prize. k18026.site.kiwanis.org
NORTH RIDGEVILLE CORN FESTIVAL
First sown in 1975 as a way to celebrate America’s bicentennial the following year, the North Ridgeville Corn Festival has popped up every summer since.
Originally recognizing North Ridgeville as a corn-producing, farming community, the festival has grown from just 13 booths in 1975 to more than 100 in 2025, according to John Butkowski, president of the North Ridgeville Corn Festival, a nonprofit organization.
“Over the years, the reputation has grown as one of the best festivals in Ohio,” Butkowski says. “In fact, it was recently voted best festival by puLse Lorain County’s Magazine.”
The organization puts all the profits from the festival back into the community by, for example, donating to the fire and police departments, supporting Community Care and giving out scholarships.
This year, the festival added a few new components:
• A lighted drone show
• Amusement rides
• A larger car show
“Not many festivals make it to 50 years,” Butkowski says. “When we started the festival, we never dreamed it would be continuing on as it has, and it’s thanks to the volunteers who have spent a tremendous amount of time and effort to pull it off.” nrcornfest.org
RIDGELINES
NORTH RIDGEVILLE GARDEN CLUB
The North Ridgeville Garden Club took root in 1978 and has since flourished, spreading its seeds throughout the city — quite literally — in the gardens at Town Hall and various North Ridgeville Schools.
“Through the garden club, I’ve learned so much about gardening and made so many good friends,” says Brenda Lett, member.
In addition to maintaining various gardens throughout the city, the club decorates the library’s Christmas tree and creates a float for the North Ridgeville Corn Festival parade.
As part of its fundraising efforts, the group hosts a plant sale, held the third Saturday in May every year. Members dig up plants from their own yards and donate the profits back to the community through Community Care, the North Ridgeville Branch Library and Lorain County Metro Parks.
The club meets the second Tuesday of each month at the Sandy Ridge Nature Center. 440-365-8522
NORTH RIDGEVILLE HISTORICAL SOCIETY
The North Ridgeville Historical Society collects the threads of the past to bring the rich story of the city to life for all to explore.
“It’s an important part of the city’s image to know their history, know their background and have available all these stories and information about their past,” says Jeff Sigsworth, president. “Ridgeville Township was first settled
in 1810, so we’ve got over 200 years of history.”
As part of its preservation and educational efforts, the society has restored a historic oneroom school on Jaycox Road (open May-October) to show early school life in North Ridgeville’s history. The group also maintains the display case at the library, which highlights stories about the city’s past; collects class pictures from 1926 to now; and posts photos weekly on its Facebook page.
“We’re not a big group, but we do valuable work,” Sigsworth says.
The club participates annually in events throughout the city, such as the North Ridgeville Corn Festival, the citywide garage sale, Holiday on the Ridge and more. northridgevillehistoricalsociety.com
NORTH RIDGEVILLE HEART & SOLE
North Ridgeville Heart & Sole, founded in 2014, has its heart set on boosting physical, mental and social health across the city, according to Samantha Meluch, facilitator.
“Heart & Sole brings together people from different sectors, with unique knowledge, skill sets, tools and resources, so we can all try to come together to address complex issues in the community,” Meluch says.
The organization’s efforts include:
• A produce pickup program for six weeks, August through September; community members can reserve a 10- to 12-pound bag of locally grown fruits and vegetables for $12
• Infrastructure improvements such as line striping for the multipurpose trail along Center Ridge Road and an enhanced crosswalk to allow people to safely visit South Central Park, the senior center and library
• Opening Liberty Elementary and LCCC Ridge Campus on certain weekdays from October-April so people have a safe, warm place to walk
“Heart & Sole is truly all about making the healthy choice the easy choice,” Meluch says. nrheartandsole.com
NORTH RIDGEVILLE VETERANS MEMORIAL
While driving around town, Mark Steinbrunner realized North Ridgeville had no way to commemorate its veterans. So, in 2019, he decided to do something about it. “I wanted something where we can educate the public,” says Steinbrunner, chair of the organization and a veteran himself.
Located at the corner of Avon Belden Road and Bainbridge Road, the Veterans Memorial includes a flag display, large stones that give information about every U.S. conflict since the Revolutionary War and a fountain with cascading water in the middle that honors the fallen.
QR codes — created with the help of North Ridgeville High School students based on information collected by the North Ridgeville Historical Society — allow visitors to learn more about the veterans of North Ridgeville.
The organization also sells pavers to veterans or their family members. Those funds fuel future projects and maintenance of the site.
Looking ahead, the organization plans to add more QR codes throughout the site, including information on soldiers missing in action and prisoners of war. On Veterans Day, the organization will host a ceremony at the site to honor veterans. nrvetsmemorial.com

IA Bright Future
North Ridgeville is rolling into 2026 with a new bus facility — and breaking ground on a brand-new high school. By Jill Sell
n August, the North Ridgeville City School District broke ground on a brand new, innovative high school building that will open for the 20282029 school year. Superintendent Roxann Ramsey-Caserio says, “This collegiate-like facility will accommodate our growing population, enhance our programming and offer a variety of educational spaces for our staff and students.”
A new performing arts center will be the stage for courses in directing, lighting

and design, acting and choreography. A state-of-the-art natatorium will support the school’s swim team and open other opportunities. “We already have interest from local schools and other organizations to rent the pool, which will provide income,” Ramsey-Caserio says.
Also taking place on campus, construction for a new transportation and maintenance facility. This building is on track for completion in January 2026. This complex will house the current fleet of
60 buses plus have space for 20 more. It will also feature four bays for bus repairs and maintenance and a drive-through bus-washing station. This new building is imperative for maintenance and prolonging the service life of the vehicles. These construction projects are the result of residents passing a $143 million bond issue in November 2023. ThenDesign Architecture (TDA) in Willoughby and Hammond Construction in Uniontown are handling these projects. Ramsey-Caserio says, “We are eager to see these projects come to life and the lasting impact they will have on our community. With the expanded opportunities this new space will provide, our students will truly have the power to design their preferred future.”

Get to know six local businesses that call North Ridgeville home. By
Jill Sell
RUF Briquetting Systems
North Ridgeville held all the cards when RUF Briquetting Systems wanted to expand its operation in the United States. The family-owned German company has had a North American Sales and Service facility, for RUF Briquetting machines in Elyria. RUF machines are used to compress metal, wood, biomass and other scrap materials into usable briquettes. Roland Ruf, CEO of RUF Maschinenbau Gmhb & Co., wanted to reduce lead times for customers and also find a location that could expand to 100,000 square feet.
North Ridgeville was the answer, according to Jim Weist, president of RUF’s North American Division. The new, 32,000-squarefoot facility on 11 acres will house offices and factory space. Occupancy at the Taylor Industrial Parkway complex is expected in December 2025.
“This is Phase One, and we expect to substantially increase our capacity over the next five to 10 years,” says Weist. “North Ridgeville is a great location for us. We are looking forward to being part of the community.”

lil’ ranger rumble
You never know. One of those little kids climbing all over the 2-story jungle gym in lil’ ranger rumble, a new indoor playground that will open in late fall in North Ridgeville, may someday be the next quarterback of the North Ridgeville High School football team.
“The sense of community is very strong here, and everyone loves their Rangers. These local kids will all be Rangers someday. We want to support the healthy habit of being active when they are young,” says lil’ ranger rumble owner Maria Ferris.
The indoor gym is geared to kids seven and under and features climbing tasks, slides, a ball pit and other soft structure play areas, according to Ferris, also owner of MarDom Real Estate.
Ferris chose North Ridgeville to open her new business because the city is her home and she wanted to create a safe and comfortable environment for other parents as well as for her family.
Party packages are available and accommodate 15 children with an additional cost for each child.

UH Urgent Care
A new University Hospitals Urgent Care facility opened in North Ridgeville this past August, managed in partnership with WellStreet Urgent Care, and the timing was perfect, according to Jonathan Stokes, vice president of operations at WellStreet.
“Demand is really there right as flu season starts,” says Stokes, adding that the facility offers a wide variety of testing and screening options, including those to detect flu, strep throat and COVID. “We offer injury and illness care options, from a simple cough to a broken bone. We have X-ray capabilities on site and an in-house pharmacy. We are trying to make it as convenient as possible for our patients. The pharmacy offers standard medicines like antibiotics, because you don’t want to spend time standing in line at a pharmacy someplace right after you got out of an urgent care facility. And most prescriptions are $10 or less.”
School sport, camp and employer physicals are also available.
Stokes believes North Ridgeville is a logical location for the new urgent care facility due to market demand and because UH already has an established presence in the community with a number of UH primary care physicians and specialty care groups.
The new UH Urgent Care facility is open seven days a week, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome or patients may book appointments online.

KLT Insurance
The letters in KLT Insurance represent the words “Know, Like and Trust” — the guiding principles followed by Founder and President Chris Hibsman.
“KLT is an extension of what I am,” explains Hibsman, who opened his insurance company in 2020 and who has been in his present office space in the center of North Ridgeville for the past two years. “I want to be busy in the community. I want people here to say, ‘We know those people from KLT Insurance. They are really nice people.’ Our footprint in North Ridgeville has gotten much bigger, and it’s because we try to do whatever we can for the community.”
Hibsman, chairman of the board of directors for the North Ridgeville Chamber of Commerce, has no trouble staying busy. He and his company’s staff are active in chamber events all year round, including the popular North Ridgeville Chamber Annual Golf Event.
Hibsman also takes part in Heart & Sole, a community collaborative promoting health and wellness. In addition, he has been involved for a decade in the North Ridgeville High School’s band leadership program.
Between all his volunteering, Hibsman says he will find clients a policy for “anything you can insure.” KLT even offers wedding insurance.
“You never know what happens at a wedding,” Hibsman says.

Italian Coffee
This summer, Italian Coffee opened a spacious new patio with 15 tables, adding to five tables near the business’ front door. But from the way business has been growing since opening in January 2025, and the love from the community the coffee shop has gratefully received, even that extra space might not be enough.
Arben Alia and his wife, Ledia, have 28 years’ experience in the restaurant/food industry. But nowhere, Alia says, have they been as welcome as in North Ridgeville. Local customers are impressed with the owners’ friendliness, passion for their work, dedication to service and, of course, the food.
Italian Coffee serves a wide variety of hot and iced coffee drinks, with coffee directly sent to Alia from his family, based on the east coast of Italy. The family roasts the coffee and ships it every two or three months to assure freshness.
The shop sells salads and sandwiches, desserts and smoothies that are made fresh. “In the smoothies, you can taste chunks of fresh strawberries, mangoes, blueberries and so many fruits I can’t even remember,” says Alia.
Pastries include cassata cakes, chocolate cannoli and Italian cheesecake. The baking flour Alia uses is also sent by his family.
But it is also the 25 flavors of handmade Italian gelato that have helped Italian Coffee win its “must-try” reputation.

Legacy
Roofing Services
Legacy Roofing Services is one of the largest roofing contractors in the area. Its locations include Columbus, Akron, Bath Township and, as of 2024, North Ridgeville. But Dave Sipes, a vice president with the company, wants customers to know Legacy Roofing Services is dedicated to supporting local community interests.
Sipes has lived in North Ridgeville for 15 years. He and his family plus the company have been active with the North Ridgeville Parks and Recreation Department and Recreation Center. Sipes has been a softball coach for six years. “I feel passionate about embedding ourselves into the community and giving back,” he says.
Legacy Roofing Services provides “just about everything you can put on a roof,” plus vinyl siding, gutters and downspouts, according to Sipes. It provides roof repair and replacement and free roofing inspections.
“The technology that has been developed for shingles in the past five to seven years is phenomenal. It’s mind-blowing. They will last 30, 40 years if installed properly. That’s bad news for me,” jokes Sipes.
Also keep an eye out for Legacy Roofing Services’ new mascot — a cute Bernedoodle equipped with roofing tools in hand (paw?). The mascot is named “Bernie,” of course, and inspired by Sipes’ own dog.

FACES OF NORTH RIDGEVILLE
CLIFF AND KATHY WINKEL
Cliff and Kathy Winkel have lived in North Ridgeville for 25 years.
“We are all in on North Ridgeville,” says Cliff, who founded Wink Electric in 2000 and moved his business to the community six years ago. Today, their Wink Property Group venture is composed of several enterprises, including Wink Royalton, a complex that houses Pulp Juice and Smoothie Bar and Modern Massage and Spa.
“We look at old buildings that have been doing nothing and put them back to work,” says Cliff, a North Ridgeville Ward 4 Council member.
Cliff has coached (primarily football) in the community, and Kathy was a school nurse, making them widely recognizable in the community.
“North Ridgeville is a community that comes together when needed,” Kathy says.
KERIANN ROACH
Look for the corn earrings. A pair might be dangling off the ears of Keriann
Roach, especially when she is volunteering for the Corn Festival. She joined the festival in 1999 and now serves on the executive and booth committees.
“The festival is a way for the community to reconnect,” says Roach. “A lot of high school reunions always meet on Friday night of festival week.”
Roach also served on the Parks and Recreation Commission for six years.
“North Ridgeville has a small town
feeling, even though it is still growing,” Roach says. “I like knowing my neighbors.”
TIM AND SUE MCGUIRE
North Ridgeville businessman Tim McGuire looks back with fondness to 1985, when Poppee’s Popcorn moved to the city and was the first company to call Taylor Woods Industrial Park home. “It’s a good memory. In those days I had to wait for deer to cross the street before I could get
Cliff and Kathy Winkel
Keriann Roach
to work,” recalls McGuire, whose father, Walter, started the business in the 1940s.
Poppee’s Popcorn is a legendary family business in North Ridgeville, with the four McGuire children involved in the company over the years.
This year Poppee’s Popcorn was sold to an Arizona-based company, Lehi Valley Trading Company, which has been a customer of Poppee’s Popcorn. The Jenny’s Old Fashioned popcorn
brand name will be retained.
“Tim says the business has been his whole life,” says McGuire’s wife, Sue McGuire. “And he’ll still go to the office until everything is settled.”
BILL NOLL
Bill Noll was born in his family’s home in North Ridgeville in 1954. “My mother never made it to the hospital in time,” he says. Widely recognized as one of the
city’s most important local historians, Noll’s research and knowledge of the past are priceless.
A longtime member of the North Ridgeville Historical Society, Noll has watched his city grow ever since he worked on the Sweet family’s local farm in his teens. He served on city council in the early 1980s.
Noll’s 200-page book, Through the Years History of North Ridgeville 1810 to 1960, published in 2018, is available for sale at the Historical Society. It’s there that Noll often fields questions from people wanting information about people, events and locations with North Ridgeville roots.
Recently, Noll helped a woman from Arizona learn about ancestors buried in a local cemetery, including one who fought in the Revolutionary War.
Noll was this year’s recipient of the Golden Kernel Award presented at the Corn Festival’s opening ceremonies.
“We are looking for more younger people to take over some work with the Historical Society,” says Noll. “We need to make sure the history of North Ridgeville is not forgotten.” — Jill Sell

It is a powerful reminder that fulfillment, joy, and growth aren’t limited by time. Whether you’re 18 or 80, here are a few timeless principles to help you do just that:
Define What “Best Life” Means to You
Your version of happiness or success may look different from someone else’s. Reflect on your values, passions, and goals—and let those guide your choices.
Stay Curious and Keep Learning
Lifelong learning keeps your mind sharp and your world expanding. Read, take up hobbies, travel, or take courses—there’s always something new to discover.
Prioritize Health and Wellness
She can be reached at (216) 268-8999 or leeann.obrien@mcgregoramasa.org Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly PACE PROVIDES
No matter your age, caring for your body and mind is foundational. Regular movement, balanced nutrition, rest, and mental health practices go a long way.
Nurture Relationships
Meaningful connections—whether with friends, family, or community—are essential to a rich life. Don’t underestimate the power of shared experiences and mutual support.
Embrace Change and Let Go of Regret
Life brings transitions. Embracing them with resilience and learning from the past without being stuck in it allows you to grow forward.
Contribute to Something Bigger
Whether it’s mentoring, volunteering, or creating, contributing gives purpose and can bring deep satisfaction.
Celebrate Every Season of Life
Each stage has its own beauty. Appreciate the wisdom, freedom, or vitality that comes with where you are now.
