The Importance of Worldly Gains

Day after day, we think, “What can I accomplish?” Whether we want to stain our deck, enroll in college classes, or purchase a new home, every day, we look to improve our lives in some form or fashion, brag about it on social media, and then move on to our next wish. We constantly long for something bigger and better. We want our accomplishments to make us feel important. I, personally, have a few goals for my own life that would make me feel better as a person. Do these accomplishments and goals really matter to our Heavenly Father?
I am in no way saying the Lord does not want us to work hard and prosper while we are on the earth. In His Word, He tells us, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men” (Colossians 3:23). Instead, I am asking if we are so wrapped up in worldly accomplishments that we are missing out on the sole purpose of our existence: to tell others about our Lord.
I was doing some praying and thinking, and it hit me: “Who have you told about Jesus?” Truthfully, I was ashamed of my answer. We can have multiple college degrees, money in our savings account, and
our dream home, but NONE OF THAT MATTERS if I leave this Earth without telling one person about Jesus.
As you continue through this new year, find small ways to incorporate the name of Jesus into your conversations with others. Let one goal for 2021 be how many people we can share the name of Jesus with.
