A wonderful Day Out—with the Seaford Senior Ci zens Club
The club hired a bus and toured 3 local community gardens, and to say it was a successful trip is an understatement. They visited Joy of the Earth Community Garden for a cuppa and gardening chat, stopped by the community garden at Orwil Street Community Centre for lunch and a browse, and finished at Langwarrin Community Garden with a seed plan ng demo, po ed seeds, sweet peas and a ernoon tea. Many members didn't know these centres existed and were amazed at how accessible they were. They all had a fabulous me, the weather was kind, and they travelled home with cu ngs, lavender bags, cards, flowers and lots of new ideas.

Being part of a Senior Group brings joy, connec on and plenty of fun. There's something special about being part of a senior group more than ac vi es and ou ngs, it’s the laughter, friendship and sense of belonging. We’re lucky to have so many wonderful groups in our community, such as Probus Club of Langwarrin Combined, which Lee (pictured below) highlighted last year when she shared her handmade Melbourne Cup Day hat and the groups colourful “fashions on the field”. But the crea vity didn't stop there members spent weeks cra ing beau ful flowers and decora ons for their clubs birthday, transforming their space into a vibrant display. Stories like this remind us why senior groups ma er; they give us reasons to get out, get crea ve, learn new things and share special moments. If you have been thinking about joining a group, consider this your invita on.

Local Volunteers
Hi, I’m Sandra, 62 years old, and I love staying ac ve! I work full- me and spend a lot of my free me volunteering it’s something that truly fills my heart. Recently, I’ve been helping with pickups and deliveries for Share the Dignity, which has been such a rewarding experience. I also chair the Frankston Social Inclusion Ac on Group (SIAG), volunteer as a JP at the local police sta on, sit on the Foreshore & Port Phillip Bay advisory group, and I’ve just joined the Australia’s Most Accessible Beach project in Frankston a er assis ng with the ini al phases of setup to launch day. Why do I volunteer?
Because giving back to this wonderful community feels amazing. It keeps me connected, helps me meet new people, and stops me from was ng me online or feeling lonely. There’s nothing like the joy of making someone’s day a li le brighter. If you’ve ever thought about volunteering, I can’t recommend it enough.
Hi, I’m Chris and Ive always loved Frankston. Some of my happiest childhood memories were spent at the Frankston beach.
A er several health setbacks and opera ons, I spent me at St John of God Rehabilita on Hospital. The care I received inspired me to give back, and I began volunteering there while s ll working. This year marks my 15th year as a volunteer.
I’ve also been part of the Engage Frankston panel and am an Age-Friendly Ambassador. More recently, I was thrilled to be involved in the Frankston Accessible Beach Project. I got to try the beach ma ng and walk on the sand and even paddle with a walker into the bay. I plan to book in for a full in water experience soon. Being able to walk on the sand and paddle in the bay again was truly amazing. Although health issues have limited my mobility, I plan to keep volunteering for as long as I can. I strongly encourage volunteering—it gives purpose, builds connec ons and makes a real difference.
If you know of an amazing volunteer or organisa on in our community please let us know so we can share their story. Email posi veageing@frankston.vic.gov.au
