Here’s a story from the New York Daily News that happened this past Sunday. A massive blaze that engulfed two Texas homes on Sunday began with a woman setting a Bible on fire, according to her neighbors. The San Antonio resident was burning the sacred book in her backyard when the fire suddenly spread into her house and her neighbor’s, witnesses told local news station WOAI-TV. No one was injured in the early-morning blaze, but the fire caused about $150,000 in damages and displaced multiple residents and their dogs, according to the station. Link to article. After the fire had been subdued, the unnamed suspect was cuffed and taken into custody, though no formal charges have been filed. Also, according to the article, “A possible motive for the alleged Bible-burning was not known.” To be honest, I don’t pretend to know what this lady was thinking. Does she hate the Bible? Was it just old and worn out? I don’t know. But I do know that people wanting to destroy or ban God’s Word is nothing new. In Jeremiah 36, God told Jeremiah to write down all of the prophecies He had given against Israel, Judah and other nations.
