“… whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all.” ~ Mark 10:43-44 (NIV) ~
6:30 this past Saturday evening. 36° here in Prescott Valley. Snow still on the ground in many places. Need to bring dinner home. What to do? Where to go? — Panda Express! Apparently, many other people came to the same conclusion as did I. So, while standing in a long line in the crowded little space, I noticed an elderly man who had obviously suffered a stroke at some time. He was walking in the opposite direction of the food serving line toward the front. Describing what he was doing as walking may be a stretch. He was assisted by a walker without which he would never had made the journey. As he got near the front of the serving line, after nearly knocking a young teenager over inadvertently, he motioned to the young lady who was greeting and serving the many hungry customers.

My first thought was that he was joining his family in line. But I noticed that the young lady smiled at him, turned to a co-worker to take her place and she then walked away. Within a few seconds she appeared next to him and began to walk slowly in front him. She led him through the crowded line of waiting customers to the exit door. If that was not unusual enough, she then opened the door and walked out into the cold evening with him. The whole time she had a large smile on her face. Did I mention it was cold outside? The young lady was not wearing a coat or sweater. She was wearing her Panda Express uniform short-sleeve polo shirt.

Finally, about five minutes later, she walked back in the door, still smiling. My assumption is that she had accompanied him to a car, helped him in, and put his walker in the trunk. I don’t know that she had any relationship with this man other than he was a customer.
• Sunday School for all ages 9:00 AM
Once inside, I watched her go back behind the serving counter, stop to wash her hands, and then return to her serving position at the front of the line. By that time, I happened to be her first customer. As she smiled at me and asked for my order, continued...
