In this time of crisis, people are fearful and looking for answers. We have a unique opportunity right now to give people truth and hope. These cards and this website will do that. Kindle is a great ebook reader from Amazon and provides access to a vast library of books. Okay, you do have to buy most of the books, but you can find many for free. A couple of days ago, I downloaded a new book on the history of the Navy SEALs. Though I was never a SEAL, I did have the honor of working with them for a couple of months as their Chaplain at the Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) training school in Coronado back in the day. That is one of two places where prospective young sailors go to become SEALs. One of the first things they learn is that there is “no easy day” for a Navy SEAL. Some are harder than others — but none will be easy. In 2005, a comprehensive creed was put together. Two parts stand out to me today. First — their code ends with the words: “Earn your Trident Every Day”. The Trident is the insignia they proudly wear above all other medals on their chest. It takes over a year of training, sometimes more, to earn. Until they have earned it, they are not yet a SEAL. Second — in their creed is written: “My training is never complete.” These are men who train every day at an amazingly high level, and yet it is never enough. There is always a new level to aspire to. I am telling you this because right now, many of you may be feeling like a frustrated Navy SEAL. You are out of your element. You may feel sidelined right now. You are maybe quarantined, and most certainly, most of you are sheltering in place. Most every outside activity has been temporarily taken away. Emotions such as frustration, loneliness, anger, worry and boredom may have become your daily companions over this past month. Those are natural reactions to the circumstances, but today I want you to know that they are not the only choices you have.
