“I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.”

1 John 5:13 (NIV) Ah, ah, choo! Spring. So many dread Spring due to the increased pollen counts. It seems to affect almost everyone here in Prescott Valley, including yours truly. I know it hits our church hard — just based on the number of tissue boxes we go through. However, even though I may have to see the beauty of Spring with itchy, watery eyes, it is still my favorite season of the year. Trees are in bloom, flowers are springing to life, I’ve already had to mow my yard (well really only the small part of it that is grass), and now it’s on my to-do-list to mow it again tomorrow. Yes, Spring is a time of change. “Change” — that word can be somewhat intimidating. It can mean some really hurtful or negative things. Things like the loss of a loved one — a serious illness — loss of employment — or any other number of things. However, it can mean really good things as well. Things like a new job — or a new home — or even a new relationship. A new change this week here at First Southern is our new Secretary. We had to say goodbye to Diana, who served us for almost a year and half. At the same time, we say welcome to Johnna Traver. While sad to go though a time of change — we are excited for the time of change as well. We believe God is at work in all of these circumstances.

“Change” also means a new life Christ — that is the essence of the Easter story. The shock — the sadness — the horror of Good Friday… only to be replaced three days later by the shock — the challenge of belief — the overwhelming joy of resurrection day!

But it’s not just new life for Christ. It means new life for every one of us. Without Jesus, our only option was to go from life —which is dead in sin — to death. That is not a change to celebrate. It is eternal death. With Jesus, the change takes place immediately. It is to change from death to life — eternal life!

SUNDAY SCHEDULE

Blessings on your week as you encounter the changes — remembering the greatest change of all. I’ll see you Sunday morning for worship — and Sunday evening for “Easter in a Time of Change.”
