“… whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” ~ 1 Corinthians 10:31 (NIV) ~ Semper Paratus: “Always Ready” — The Coast Guard Motto. Semper Fidelis: “Always Faithful” — The Marine Corps Motto. These mottos have been the guiding resolve of those who have and are now serving our nation in vital roles. Whether talking about the individuals who serve in units, or on ships and cutters, they are ready and faithful to go into harms way when called upon.

Don’t forget, we are collecting non perishable food items for the Yavapai Food Bank. Your generosity and care for our community has allowed us to fill the barrels and have them emptied to fill again! Thank you for showing your care for others in this way. Drop by the office and we will buzz you in … the barrels are just inside the door and you can deposit goods into them while still maintaining social distancing. You are such an awesome group of giving folks! THANKS!

When I began serving as a chaplain in the Navy, I learned another motto. Semper Gumby: “Always Flexible” — the U.S. Navy Chaplain Corps (unofficial) Motto. I soon learned how valuable that resolve is. Life as a chaplain seldom went as planned. Changes to mission plans could turn on a dime. Logistical issues were always a reality. Chaplains do not represent beans or bullets — so most times I had to earn my value in the command and mission. That called for flexibility. That is not unlike our lives today. Not much is going as planned. Work life has changed drastically for most. For way too many, it has even gone away. Family life has changed for most everyone. Church life has drastically changed. Yet, we are still called to be ready and to be faithful — and in today’s world that means to be flexible. Unfortunately, most of us don’t really like to embrace change. So, when we must do things a different way, we can develop a negative attitude. That attitude can have a negative impact on our own psyche and that of those around us. For the Christian, that should never be the option we choose.

Our call is to build up — not to tear down. So, along comes the Apostle Paul who reminds us that in whatever situation we find ourselves — and whatever we choose to do in that situation — we must find a way to do it for God’s glory. For those of you still in the work force today — are you still working to show God’s glory to those you work with? Most likely, your coworkers are nervous, anxious, depressed and maybe even angry. You have the opportunity to show them another option. You can show them the option of God’s peace.
