Editor’s Letter

Light can come from different sources, and this month, we are getting it from jewellery, watches and within ourselves. We bring a selection of must-see (and have) timepieces and bold jewels. Even our lookbook showcases a new fine jewellery brand. We are in the 'let it shine' mood, leading to the end of another year – one more month and we wave goodbye to 2025. I know, time flies, and letting it pass in style makes the journey worth it.

Talking about spotlight, our Ohlala Spa & Wellness Awards Qatar 2025 is happening this month and we are shedding light on the ultimate well-being destinations in the country. Make sure you check the winners on our website and social media channels. It will be a glamorous event under the stars.

We enjoyed two pampering treatments to nurture the light within. An Intraceuticals facial at Spa InterContinental, InterContinental Doha Beach & Spa and Balinese and HydraFacial therapies at La Vallée SPA Switzerland, Le Royal Méridien Place Vendôme Lusail. Read about the experiences to tune in with the relaxing vibe.

We wonder how far you would go for good food, so we've rounded up a few dining spots from around the world that we believe are worth the ticket fare. On a local note, we nourished our bodies at Fuego, JW Marriott Marquis City Center Doha, in a Latin American feast.

I am an enthusiast of road trips and wish that the drive behind the wheel of the stylish Mercedes-Benz E 200 took us beyond the country's border – maybe one day.

From books and exhibitions to collaborations and revivals, here’s the news roundup this month.

Birds, Blooms and Brilliance

Qatari designer Aisha Alattiya’s winning creation for the Chaumet Tiara Project, Houbara Haven, is now on display at M7 in Msheireb Downtown Doha until January 12, 2026. The exhibition traces the tiara’s journey from Aisha’s sketches to its 740-hour realisation at Maison Chaumet’s Parisian High Jewellery workshop. The design honours Qatar’s desert wildlife, depicting a houbara bird sheltered among the blossoms and fruit of the Awsaj tree, protected from a falcon. Natural pearls from Alfardan Jewellery and Chaumet diamonds bring the piece to life. Visitors follow an immersive journey inspired by the bird’s search and refuge, culminating in the tiara’s reveal within a sanctuary of green-toned jewellery. The exhibition celebrates the next generation of Middle Eastern designers, showcasing how culture, nature and artistry converge in contemporary jewellery.

Tales of Travel

Louis Vuitton is turning the page of its own history with From Louis to Vuitton, a stunning new release by Assouline Editions. Written by Franco-Swiss author Arthur Dreyfus and introduced by the brand’s CEO Pietro Beccari, the book captures the maison’s remarkable journey from a young Louis leaving his village in 1854 to the global symbol of travel and luxury it is today. The 406-page volume features 320 images and explores 54 key words as themes, right from its iconic creations to its famed Asnières workshop and visionary artistic directors. The edition also reflects on the brand’s commitment to sustainability, sport and the art of travel. Presented in a Damier-style case with a bold yellow cover, it is available this month in French, English, Chinese and Japanese. A limited-edition Louis Vuitton trunk version will also be offered in very limited quantities globally.

The Watch Bible

Audemars Piguet is celebrating its 150th anniversary with The Watch - Stories and Savoir Faire, an ambitious new release published by Flammarion. Nearly 600 pages long, the book delves into the fascinating world of watches with intricate movements and complications, as well as the artistry of dials, cases and straps. Created by a team of over 40 writers, designers, engineers and artisans, it captures the collaborative spirit that has defined the Swiss Manufacture since 1875. Rich with interviews, archival images and technical insight, it serves as both an educational guide and a celebration of craftsmanship. As CEO, Ilaria Resta notes: “This book reflects our desire to share the passion that drives us. It lifts the lid on hidden wonders and highlights the unique skills needed to bring a watch to life. Above all, it pays tribute to the generations of individuals that have shaped Haute Horlogerie and the history of Audemars Piguet for 150 years.”

Bling It On

Swarovski brought its signature brilliance to New York Fashion Week with a hard-to-miss collaboration at Off-White’s Spring and Summer 2026 ready-to-wear collection. The line fused sharp tailoring, textured layering and bold embellishments, with Swarovski crystals expertly scattered across outerwear, denim and accessories. Cropped bombers shone with crystallised logos, while denim jackets and flared trousers shimmered under intricate crystal embroidery. Even trainers joined the sparkle, reworked with radiant renditions of iconic motifs for glamour at every step. The partnership beautifully balanced Swarovski’s savoir-faire with Off-White’s urban edge, reimagining the brand’s signature silhouettes through the transformative play of light and texture.

Art Revival

JW Anderson and Wedgwood joined the Estate of Lucie Rie for a collaboration that beautifully bridges past and present. The special collection revives a series of teacups and saucers that Lucie designed for Wedgwood back in 1964 but were never produced, until now. Each piece has been carefully handcrafted by Wedgwood’s artisans using the brand’s signature Jasperware in soft Jasper blue with white inlays, complete with the matte, tactile finish that makes the material so distinctive. Alongside Lucie’s revived designs are mugs inspired by fifth-century Greek pieces from Jonathan Anderson’s personal collection, available in Blue/Saxon Blue, Chocolate Brown/Black and Canary Yellow/Mimosa Yellow. Proceeds will go towards the Lucie Rie and Hans Coper Foundation, supporting the preservation of their archives and future creative scholarship.

FROM SAND IT RISES

Boucheron has taken its Quatre collection to new heights with Quatre Sand Cuff.

Born from the maison’s perpetual pursuit of innovation, the capsule is a reinterpretation of the iconic Quatre, crafted with the cutting-edge technique of 3D-printing sand. Creative Director Claire Choisne joined black sand with yellow gold in a striking set of cuff bracelets and bangles.

Sand is elevated in Boucheron’s hands, but it’s not the first time the material has been used by the maison. In the 2015 Bleu de Jodhpur High Jewellery collection, sand from the Thar desert was embedded into a necklace made of rock crystal. The concept was taken a step further in the 2024 Carte Blanche collection, Or Bleu, inspired by the rushing waters and black sandy shores of Iceland.

To create the new pieces, Boucheron used a 3D sand-printing technique borrowed from the automotive and aeronautics industries. The polymer binder was precision-sprayed onto the sand in successive layers, barely a millimetre thick, like a millefeuille puff pastry, making the grains adhere to one another as if glued. This innovative process in jewellery yields a notably hardwearing material that retains the texture of the sand – a novel aesthetic that resonates with the maison’s experimental spirit.

These pieces were challenging to craft technically. First, the Creative Studio used 3D modelling to achieve the oversized dimensions they desired, while still reproducing the precision edges that characterise the signature Quatre pattern, Clou de Paris. Each black sand component was then 3D-printed before being mounted onto the gold structural bangle. Its polished inner surface and brushed edge maximise the interplay of textures and light, while a special coating seals in the sand’s colour. The clasp on each bangle is inconspicuous enough not to detract from the design’s purity and power.

Moving beyond technical details, the new capsule recreates the aesthetic of the Quatre icon. The seven-piece set can be worn stacked together or separately. The collection comprises one black sand and yellow gold bracelet featuring an XXL version of the Clou de Paris design; two other bracelets with the same materials and pattern in a smaller format; and four brushed gold bangles complete the set. Black sand was deliberately chosen for the radical contrast it creates against the warmth of yellow gold. This bold visual effect perfectly reflects the concept behind the Quatre collection. These creations are the ultimate fusion of style and innovation.

Symbols of Determination and DEFIANCE

The Fearless Collection is the new line in Kismet by Milka fine jewellery, embracing confidence and audacity.

Envisioned by Turkish designer Milka Karaagacli, Kismet by Milka was created in 2009 and focusses on hand-crafted fine jewellery and piercings. The pieces range from delicate designs to bold statements.

The Fearless Collection embodies daring structures with a refined touch, created for those who like to embrace uniqueness. It features iconic symbols of raw courage and unwavering determination. Many women have left their mark in history, and one of them, Marie Curie, is the inspiration for this capsule. She was the only person to win Nobel Prizes in two different scientific fields, and her legacy is now expressed in the form of jewellery.

The core of the designs is rooted in nature, and two animals lead the inspiration. The honey badger is considered one of the most courageous animals and a synonym of bravery, and the other is the eagle, a global symbol of power and freedom.

The pieces are designed in Roslow gold (a trademark colour gold tone developed by Kismet by Milka that mixes rose and yellow gold), offering a burnt peach hue that can be mixed and matched with other metals, as well as white gold, and some creations are adorned with diamonds. The Crux Ring mixes Roslow and white gold, embellished with white brilliant diamonds. The Battleclaw Cuff mixes Roslow gold and white brilliant diamonds in a daring ear cuff design.

In the words of the brand’s founder and creative director, Milka Karaagacli: “We created this collection for the fearless ones, for those who face life head-on despite their fears because they are the ones who shape the world. They are us. We are fearless.”

THE STRIPED STATEMENT

With the new Gondolo Serata Zebra, Patek Philippe transforms its classic watch into a daring play of pattern, gemstones and design.

Patek Philippe adds a new chapter to its Gondolo Serata line with a version that feels both daring and impeccably refined. The latest interpretation, known as the Gondolo Serata Zebra Ref. 4962/200R-010, brings a contemporary twist to one of the brand’s most graceful evening watches.

Launched in 2006, the Gondolo Serata made an impression with its soft, Art Deco-inspired contours and fluid geometry. It was designed as a dress watch that could easily move from day to night, balancing both elegance and versatility. The original white gold models, set with diamonds and framed by guilloché mother-ofpearl dials (References 4972G-001 and 4972/1G-001), remained in the collection until 2021. The design resurfaced in 2023 in rose gold, with its slightly larger case set in spessartite gemstones, paired with a brown lacquered floral dial (Reference 4962/200R-001).

Now, the Zebra version carries that evolution forward, introducing a striking sapphire crystal dial that reimagines the pattern seen on the Golden Ellipse (Reference 5738/50G-023), one of the standouts from the brand’s 2022 Rare Handcrafts collection. Rather than using traditional enamel, the manufacturer has developed a new method to achieve depth and visual contrast.

The zebra motif is engraved and black varnished on both sides of the sapphire crystal, then finished with black metallisation and white varnish on the underside. The result is a fascinating play of light and shadow, giving the dial an almost sculptural quality. The rose gold case, measuring 28.6mm by 40.85mm, is adorned with 94 brilliant-cut spessartite stones totalling 2.02 carats. The gemstones are arranged in a double gradient that transitions from deep brown tones at 12 and six o’clock to lighter orange shades at nine and three o’clock. This shift in colour draws attention to the case’s subtly waisted shape and curved profile, while a second row of gemstones on the case’s lower edge highlights its asymmetry, a small detail that makes a big visual impact. Two applied Breguet numerals mark the 12 and six o’clock positions, with rose gold leaf-shaped hands gliding across the patterned dial. The watch is completed with a white calfskin strap with a satin finish, secured by a rose gold pin buckle engraved with the Patek Philippe logo. Inside sits the Patek Philippe quartz calibre E15. Though compact, it’s treated with the same level of care and finishing as the brand’s mechanical movements, a testament to the brand’s craftsmanship and consistency across every piece it produces.

WHEN TIME TURNS GRACEFULLY

With a swivelling case dating back to the 1930s, Jaeger-LeCoultre’s new Reverso Classic Monoface Origin keeps its legacy alive through ingenious reinvention.

Jaeger-LeCoultre recreates one of its most iconic designs with the Reverso Classic Monoface Origin – a new feminine model that celebrates the enduring charm and adaptability of the Reverso’s Art Deco design.

First introduced in 1931, the Reverso was born out of a challenge posed by British polo-playing military officers stationed in India during the Raj. They needed a watch that could withstand the impact of the game without damaging its crystal. The solution was both practical and ingenious, a case that could swivel to protect the dial, creating an immediate fusion of function and form. Quickly, it transcended its sporting origins to become a design icon admired by tastemakers from all walks of life. Its geometric silhouette and swivelling double-sided case (protected by a historical patent, CH159982) cemented its place as one of the most recognisable watches in the world.

The new creation takes inspiration from the earliest women’s Reverso timepieces of the 1930s and introduces a new, refined case size to today’s style. Measuring 32.5mm x 16.3mm, it has the same proportions as the original Reverso Dame from 1931. Perfectly balanced and elegantly discreet, this new dimension honours the original while catering to modern tastes for quiet luxury. Its polished steel case frames a beautifully detailed dial. In the centre, a sunray guilloché pattern catches the light, extending seamlessly into the classic chemin de fer minute track. Surrounding it, the vertically brushed outer section provides contrast and texture, set against finely transferred Arabic numerals. The watch comes with a choice of a five-row steel bracelet for a sleek, modern look or a blue alligator strap for something more classic and elegant.

As with the earliest Reverso designs, the flip side of the Monoface case is left blank, open for personalisation. Whether engraved with initials, adorned with a meaningful date or decorated with lacquer, it becomes a private canvas for self-expression and sentiment.

With the Reverso Classic Monoface Origin, Jaeger-LeCoultre reminds us why some designs never fade. Nearly a century after its creation, the Reverso remains as relevant as ever, an emblem of craftsmanship, grace and understated beauty.

A Masterclass in SUBTLETY

The award-winning Tonda PF from Parmigiani Fleurier receives a new upgrade.

Parmigiani Fleurier expands its Tonda PF collection with a new interpretation – the Tonda PF Automatic Steel Rose Gold, Deep Ruby. The model builds on the collection’s awardwinning design, which received recognition at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) in 2022, and is now presented in a colourway that adds warmth to the existing line.

The watch’s Deep Ruby dial defines its character. Parmigiani Fleurier describes the tone as a blend of burgundy and plum, a colour that reacts to light rather than presenting as a flat shade. CEO Guido Terreni explains that for the brand, colour is never intended to be loud or decorative, instead, it’s developed through layered tonal depth. In this case, Deep Ruby shifts between softer and darker hues depending on its surroundings, giving the dial a sense of movement and dimension.

The dial carries the brand’s signature Grain d’Orge guilloché pattern, handmade using traditional engraving tools. This fine texture, characteristic of the Tonda PF line, adds both tactility and visual depth. The hour indices are set with 12 hand-applied baguette-cut diamonds, each chosen for

its clarity and geometry. Together they amount to approximately 0.36 carats, graded D-G in colour and IF-VVS in clarity. The diamonds serve a functional role, marking the hours with precision while maintaining a restrained aesthetic.

The case combines stainless steel and 18-carat rose gold, finished with alternating polished and satin surfaces. It measures 36mm in diameter and 8.6mm in thickness, proportions that retain the Tonda PF’s balanced form. The knurled bezel, a hallmark of the collection, is machined to a fine texture that complements the polished case surfaces. The ARunic sapphire crystal provides anti-reflective protection on both sides, while the sapphire caseback reveals the movement within.

Parmigiani Fleurier has designed the bracelet as a continuation of the case architecture rather than a separate component. Stainless steel and rose gold links are integrated in a tapering form, described by the brand as a river of gold. Each link transitions smoothly into the next, combining polished and satin finishes for a fluid appearance. The bracelet closes with a stainless steel folding clasp, completing the streamlined design.

RETRO GLAM ON YOUR WRIST

Breitling introduces the new Lady Premier collection, reimagining vintage elegance for today’s woman.

When a woman puts on her watch, her whole personality is magically transformed.” Willy Breitling’s words from decades ago still ring true and they are echoed in the new Lady Premier collection. The line pays tribute to Breitling’s history of women’s watches, from the avant-garde Premier Fantaisies of the 1940s to the Lady-J and Wings Lady of the 1980s. This timepiece is not a simple revival, but a reinterpretation that captures the spirit of confidence and elegance for today.

The new Lady Premier expands on the dress-watch sensibility of the original line while introducing details that make it distinct. Cases are more fluid, straps are shaded in ombré alligator leather and dials are finished with a silk-like shimmer. Pablo Widmer, Head of Product Design at Breitling, describes the style as ‘modern retro’, a way of revisiting archival designs and reworking them with new curves, textures and tones. The result is a collection that feels refined, feminine and unmistakably contemporary.

LADY PREMIER AUTOMATIC 36

The 36mm models are powered by the Breitling Calibre 10, an automatic, COSC-certified self-winding movement with a power reserve of about 42 hours. It beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour, providing reliable precision alongside a smooth sweep of the seconds hand. Crafted in three styles: stainless steel, stainless steel with lab-grown diamonds and 18-carat gold, the cases measure 9.9mm in thickness and are glareproofed on both sides with cambered sapphire crystal. Dial colours include aubergine, sage,

dove grey and chocolate, with rhodium or gold-plated hands and hour markers, each paired with a matching gradient alligator strap that fastens with a folding clasp. The watch is water resistant up to 100 metres.

LADY PREMIER SUPERQUARTZ 32

For those who prefer smaller proportions, the 32mm Lady Premier houses the brand’s Calibre 77 SuperQuartz, a thermocompensated quartz movement that is 10 times more accurate than standard quartz. COSCcertified and powered by a battery with a lifespan of three to four years, it delivers precision designed for modern lifestyles. The stainless steel case, available with or without lab-grown diamonds, measures 32mm in diameter and 8.9mm in thickness, with water resistance to 100 metres. Its dials are offered in mother-of-pearl, ink blue and midnight black, featuring satin-soleil and circular brushing finishes that shift subtly under the light. The new tapered, seven-row Chevron bracelet introduces a V-shaped pattern, offering a feminine interpretation of the line’s traditional link design, while diamonds cascade organically from lug to bezel to enhance the jewellery-like quality of the watch.

In line with the brand’s commitment to sustainable luxury, the Lady Premier collection incorporates responsibly sourced gold and traceable lab-grown diamonds. Every element is designed to marry technical precision with aesthetics, reflecting the brand’s broader mission to produce beautiful, high-quality products while being mindful of environmental and ethical impact.

The Power of TIME

Back at the helm of Jaeger-LeCoultre, Jérôme Lambert brings both wisdom and warmth to the storied Manufacture. On a recent visit to Doha, a key stage for the maison’s enduring legacy, he shared his reflections on heritage, creativity and the passion that has defined his journey.

Under the soft glow of Doha’s afternoon light, Jérôme Lambert, CEO of Jaeger-LeCoultre, speaks of time as if it were alive: shaped, polished and refined with the same patience that defines the maison he leads. His words flow easily, weaving together almost two centuries of heritage with a renewed energy for haute horlogerie. “Since 1833,” he says, “Jaeger-LeCoultre has shaped the most important moments of watchmaking,” guided by creativity, technical mastery and a spirit of innovation that has always remained in-house.

For Jérôme, one word captures the essence of Jaeger-LeCoultre: consistency.

From the Vallée de Joux, where the Manufacture still beats in the same valley that gave it life nearly two centuries ago, Jaeger-LeCoultre remains a world apart. Inside, craftsmanship reigns supreme. Under one roof, some 180 distinct crafts coexist in quiet harmony, from enamelling and engraving to the creation of the most intricate movements.

That same spirit of precision and imagination lives on in the Reverso watch, the brand’s most enduring icon, celebrated this year. Originally designed in 1931 for British officers playing polo in India, the Reverso was born from a simple yet ingenious idea: a timepiece that could protect its dial from impact by flipping its case over. What began as a functional solution soon evolved into a symbol of refined design, marrying geometry and grace in perfect proportion.

A sense of timeless sophistication that feels especially at home in Qatar, a country whose appreciation for craftsmanship and detail mirrors JaegerLeCoultre’s own values. “It’s one of our key markets in the Middle East and also one where women in particular show a growing interest in highly technical and sophisticated horology,” Jérôme notes.

THE MAN WHO CAME FULL CIRCLE

There is something almost cinematic about the CEO's journey, one deeply rooted in the culture of watchmaking that shaped his childhood. Born in France, he grew up in Franche-Comté, a region that borders Switzerland. “A few decades ago, watchmaking was still very present there”, he recalls. “It started to fade in the late 1980s, but the context of horology has always remained.”

As a child, he would pass by the great watchmaking houses, 'infinitely closed', as he says, 'yet filled with windows'. Meaning that they looked inaccessible and closed to the world outside. However, he could glimpse the quiet life within: vast workshops where artisans crafted objects no bigger than four centimetres in diameter. “There’s a kind of mystery that surrounds these places, and when you grow up near them, you feel that aura. Later, when life takes you into your professional path, that mystery resonates in a special way.”

That resonance eventually led him to Jaeger-LeCoultre, a brand that holds a particularly strong place in the French imagination. “It’s one of the bestknown watch brands in the country,” Jérôme notes. “If you’ve lived there, you naturally develop an affinity with it. In my generation, the Reverso was very popular when we were in our 20s; it was a symbol of elegance and precision. So inevitably, the maison always had a special appeal.”

Yet destiny, as it often does, came through an encounter. He had not planned a career in watchmaking. But one day, in the late 1990s, he met his predecessor at Jaeger-LeCoultre and everything changed. “I was transported by his passion,” he says. “Passion can be an overused word, but what I saw was something more, a kind of sacred fire. You could see it in his eyes, in the team around him. When you’re in your 20s, you want to be driven by that fire, by purpose, by a mission. And that’s what I found at Jaeger-LeCoultre. I hope the young people who join the Manufacture today still feel that same sacred flame, the energy that pushes you to go beyond yourself every day.”

Jérôme first took the helm of Jaeger-LeCoultre in 2002, at just 33 years old, leading the maison for more than a decade. He later went on to head Montblanc and eventually took senior leadership roles within Richemont Group before returning to Jaeger-LeCoultre in 2025. His comeback felt like a rare privilege. “A French Prime Minister who visited the Manufacture told me how lucky I was,” he smiles. “He said, ‘You get to live your dream job twice.’ The first time, you’re under so much pressure that you can’t step back. The second time, you do it with joy and perspective.”

Looking back, he recognises how the balance has shifted. “Back then, stress and happiness were mixed together,” he admits. “Now, I can make a clearer distinction. The creative part, the pleasure, the happiness of doing, they’re far stronger.” He pauses. “It’s the same role, but not quite the same. The difference is time, not because I have more of it, but because I’ve learned what truly deserves it. The key is to tell the difference between what is absolutely urgent and what is absolutely important.” In the end, perhaps that’s the finest lesson time can teach and the one complication he has truly mastered.

Going Bananas

Prada’s new Banana Yellow balm takes inspiration from its famous runway design to deliver a golden shimmer with a fruity twist.

Prada has taken one of its most popular motifs from the Spring and Summer 2011 runway and translated it into an unexpected new form: a lip balm. The Prada Balm in Banana Yellow revives the house’s now-iconic banana print, shifting it from fabric to make-up while retaining the same balance of humour that made the original collection so memorable.

The balm itself arrives shaped in Prada’s triangular silhouette and a pastel yellow bullet with a design very similar to the brand’s nylon fabric. Applied, it melts into a sheer golden finish, leaving lips with a warm lustre that recalls the shimmer of ice in a banana granita. Its versatility extends beyond the mouth; the balm can be tapped onto cheeks for a subtle radiance. Prada has also introduced a scent to match the fun design.

Rather than the artificial sweet smell of a candy, the fragrance is described as a reworked juicy banana scent layered over the iris signature that runs through the brand’s wider beauty line. Functionality remains central to the product. The formula includes bifidus extract and jojoba oil, developed to maintain hydration for up to 24 hours, while the packaging has been designed as refillable, reducing material weight by 76% compared to replacing a full case.

The launch was teased in pop culture before its release, appearing first as Prada Banana candy in Sabrina Carpenter’s Manchild music video, a tongue-in-cheek prelude to the balm itself. It follows previous experiments in the line, such as the Astral Pink colour-changing balm, which sparked attention for its pastel blue casing and pH-adapting technology.

Birth of an ICON

Givenchy Makeup has always played in the field of innovation and rebellion, with distinctive application techniques, avant-garde textures and groundbreaking formulas. With that vision at its core, enter Le Rouge Velvet Matte lipstick.

With a completely new design, formula and appeal, Le Rouge Velvet Matte also pays tribute to Givenchy Makeup’s first lipstick, released in 1962. Mixing heritage and ingenuity, this matte blurring lipstick pledges an impressive 24-hour plumping effect. Its skincare-enriched formula promises unprecedented performance. It contains a hyaluronic acid-enriched complex that helps smooth and plump the lips. Shea butter adds even more comfort to the lipstick’s texture, delivering six-hour hydration and long-lasting effects for voluptuous, sculpted lips. A combination of soft-focus powders (blurring powders) blurs out the lips’ surface, making them appear smoother.

Coming in 17 unique shades ranging from nudes to reds, revealing a fresher, more luminous complexion. Each shade pays tribute to Givenchy’s legacy while being resolutely modern. The collection’s star shades embody this approach, from the warm beige N05 George 5 (a timeless almond hue drawn from the house’s Couture ateliers) to the pinkish brown N02 Tailored Nude (a rosewood tone inspired by the soft fabric used in a bustier) and the deep pink P09 Blushing Tulle (a striking pink that evokes a light, delicate tulle). Together, they form an ensemble of powerful, contemporary and easy-to-wear neo-nudes.

The design unveils a precise bullet tip that glides into an elegant, black case that mirrors the house’s modern, graphic silhouettes. The bullet’s tip is engraved with the 4G logo, which also adorns a sleek metal ornament that recalls an aristocratic seal – an emblem of the discreet elegance that defines the brand.

With so many new perfumes this season, Bushra Hakim breaks down the fragrance families to help you find the one that suits you.

Scent is one of the most instinctive forms of expression we have. It stirs memory, emotion and mood, and unlike fashion or make-up, it adapts to the wearer and becomes uniquely theirs. However, fragrance can be complex, but understanding its olfactory families (the broad categories perfumers use to describe scent) is the key to finding what truly suits your taste.

This year’s launches explore gender-neutral woods, modern florals, warm ambers and the growing appeal of synthetics. Here’s a look at some key olfactory families and where these new scents belong.

ALL BEAUTY ONE DESTINATION

DIPTYQUE

AMBER

Amber fragrances are radiant, enveloping and comforting. Typically built around resins, amber and tonka bean, these compositions are warm and long-lasting, creating a sense of depth and richness. Often associated with cooler months or evening wear, amber scents tend to leave a lingering, sensual trail. Their complexity allows perfumers to explore contrasts, with bright accents against creamy or resinous bases, resulting in compositions that are both rich and wearable.

Les Eaux Primordiales’ Ambre Supermassive glows with rich resin and spices, a classic example of the family’s warmth and intensity. Diptyque’s Lazulio blends rhubarb, creamy benzoin, vetiver and a hint of rose, creating a luminous amber-woody fragrance inspired by the colours and textures of lapis lazuli and the peacock feather. Roja Parfums’ Elysium Noir explores a darker, more intense amber, smoky and resinous with complex layers that unfold slowly on the skin.

GOURMAND

Gourmand fragrances evoke the comforting sweetness of edible notes, including vanilla, sugar, tonka or caramel. The trick is balance; a successful scent from this family smells indulgent but never cloying. Modern gourmand launches tend to combine warmth with airy elements or a subtle floral note, ensuring they feel sophisticated and contemporary rather than dessert-like. These are perfumes can be both comforting and statement-making, often leaving a memorable impression throughout the day.

LOEWE’s Roasted Vanilla sits comfortably in this space. Its creaminess gives it an edge, but the brand’s clean, botanical aesthetic keeps it airy and wearable, enhanced by oakwood and pink pepper. Les Eaux Primordiales’ Vanille Supermassive layers warm vanilla with smoky depth, highlighting the note’s richness. Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s Baccarat Rouge 540 Édition Millésime (limited edition) combines saffron, amberwood and jasmine for a luminous, almost weightless gourmand that lingers on the skin like silk. Prada Paradoxe: Radical Essence, the latest from the successful range, uses amber, white musk and neroli to create a warm, slightly sweet composition that feels fresh yet comforting.

FLORAL

The floral family is the beating heart of perfumery. It’s the oldest, most recognisable and adaptable option, ranging from airy, delicate compositions to rich, opulent blooms. Florals can feel optimistic, nostalgic, romantic or playful, and the latest releases demonstrate their adaptability and contemporary appeal. These perfumes can be worn on any occasion, but their versatility comes from how they balance sweetness, freshness and powdery textures to suit a modern lifestyle.

Acqua di Parma’s Gelsomino a Freddo demonstrates this beautifully. It highlights jasmine extracted through a rare cold enfleurage process, preserving its green, dewy freshness. Paired with lemon, pink pepper and patchouli, it evokes the impression of a freshly picked garden bloom.

Guerlain’s Absolus Allegoria Florabloom celebrates nature’s excess with tuberose, rose and ylang-ylang, an ode to a floral super bloom under the desert sun.

Miu Miu’s Miutine is playful and sweet, blending gardenia, brown sugar and patchouli woven into a soft floral-gourmand accord. Valentino’s Amour Sans Détour strikes a more restrained, powdery note within the floral family, combining violet, rose, jasmine and bergamot for an elegant, sensual experience.

FACE GLOW-UP

Seeking a treatment that brings vibrancy to the complexion, SD heads to Spa InterContinental.

Spa InterContinental is the perfect place to start the ultimate pampering journey. Located at InterContinental Doha Beach & Spa, this impressive facility, featuring male and female treatments, is my much-needed escape this week.

The spa entrance feels like stepping into a luxurious sanctuary – one that’s well thought out, serene and aesthetically pleasing. A series of arches and sheer curtains leads up to a circular foyer. Frosted glass doors open up to a softly lit reception where the centrepiece immediately catches the attention.

A massive chandelier cascades onto a large white planter filled with black stones and lilac orchids, as if rain is falling over a beautiful zen garden.

The curved walls feature more of those relaxing sheer curtains with purple lights above. The marble floor is designed with concentric circles that instantly make me feel cocooned in a dreamy ambience.

It’s a great peek into what’s to come. Whoever designed this spa knew exactly what they were doing. If I’m going to spoil myself, my first impression confirms that I’ve picked the right spot.

My therapist for today is Kadek, an experienced facialist from Indonesia. She escorts me to probably one of the most beautiful private treatment rooms I’ve ever seen in a spa in Doha. The space is absolutely stunning, bathed in moody fuchsia lighting. In keeping with the circular theme and the breathtaking chandelier in the reception, this treatment room also features a dramatic ceiling chandelier that’s reminiscent of a rain shower. I’m thoroughly pleased that I’m doing a facial today and won’t have to face down at any point.

The best part about this facial (other than the facial itself) is that it starts with the foot ritual. I take off my fluffy slippers and dip my tired feet into a warm bowl of salt antibiotics. Kadek lightly scrubs them clean and then proceeds with a quick foot massage. It’s a great way to start the relaxation process, and you’ll be surprised at how relaxing a facial pampering session can be.

I sip on some cool hibiscus tea and I’m ready to start the treatment. The Intraceuticals facial comes highly recommended, especially if you’re looking for results that are more instant and last longer. It’s quite popular among celebrities, who regularly undergo this treatment to lock in vitamins, deeply moisturise the skin and keep their make-up on for longer. Needless to say, I’m feeling rather important today, as I lie face up on the firm but soft spa bed. The main ingredient in this Intraceuticals treatment is hyaluronic acid, so I’m positive the moisturising is going to be a game-changer. Kadek begins with a facial cleanser to relax the skin, massaging it into my pores and along the edges of my face. This also helps ease up and prepare the complexion for the upcoming hour.

Kadek explains that the products she is using today will hydrate and brighten my skin with vitamin C, resulting in an incredible glow. She then moves on to the next and very essential step of exfoliation. She gently scrubs my face to remove all dead skin and impurities.

The next step is probably my favourite – using an oxygen machine to deeply penetrate my complexion with a serum and lock the moisture in. The entire process is relaxing; it feels like cold mist sprayed in tiny shots, and even though this is meant to moisturise, it feels like a much-needed respite from the Doha heat. This step of the treatment has a great cooling effect, in addition to all the skin benefits.

The penultimate step features a protection gel. This is quite an important part of the process as it ensures all the good vitamins are locked in and helps retain the effect of this treatment for a long time.

It’s been 60 minutes of uninterrupted bliss as Kadek truly worked her magic and displayed her skills and expertise in reviving my tired skin. I haven’t seen if there really is a glow, but the deep sense of relaxation speaks for itself. The final step is a swipe of lip balm to seal in the pampering and wrap up the treatment.

If it weren’t for the opportunity to look into a mirror and see what I look like, I’d have zero motivation to get off this bed. My therapist advises me to continue exfoliating and use an eye cream for my puffy eyes.

While I admire my rejuvenated, healthy, glowy, almost celebrity-like skin, Kadek prepares a hot peppermint tea in the relaxation area. It’s clear why anyone in showbiz loves Intraceuticals and, needless to say, I was treated like an A-lister today. An hour at Spa InterContinental feels like I’ve spent a whole weekend pampering myself.

BEYOND THE GLOW

Always chasing balance and good skin, Sirine Boudjadi headed to La Vallée SPA Switzerland at Le Royal Méridien Place Vendôme Lusail and found that sometimes all it takes is slowing down.

There are days when you don’t realise how much your body needs a break until you finally take one. That thought hit me on a quiet morning as I walked into La Vallée SPA Switzerland at Le Royal Méridien Place Vendôme Lusail. The place felt instantly soothing and open, with natural light flooding in and catching on pale wood and gold details. What I liked most was that it wasn’t tucked away, unlike so many hotel spas buried deep underground. This one breathed and already hinted at how I’d feel walking out.

Omaima, the Director of Spa and Recreation, greeted me with a calm, genuine ease that instantly made me comfortable. She offered me a drink made of orange, ginger and chamomile tea, along with a warm towel infused with eucalyptus oil. The scent alone reset my whole mood.

Before my visit, I’d received a text confirming my treatment, along with a link to fill out a short form about my health and what I hoped to get from the session. It really made the experience smoother. By the time I walked in, everything was already set. All that was left to do was choose the candle scent for my 60-minute Balinese Candle Fusion Massage. Sorormi, my therapist for the day, guided me through the options. The candles, from Shifa Aromas, are made of coconut oil, shea butter and argan butter. They all have different moods: Summer Dreams (plum, orchid and vanilla), Pilgrim (lavender, lemon and cedarwood) and Midnight Rose (rose otto, oud and peony). My go-to fragrance these days is also a mix of rose and oud, so picking the last one was an easy call. I like a bit of continuity in my life!

She began by washing my feet, then applied a gentle scrub made with apricot powder and pumice stone, followed by a refreshing gel foam. I love that they don’t rush you straight to the massage bed here. This first step changes everything. It’s like pressing pause: your body gets the message that it’s time to switch off. After that, I lay face down and I could feel Sorormi immediately locate the tension in my shoulders and upper spine, all the hours spent hunched over a screen made visible under her hands. She worked through it with a mix of pressure, stretches and long, fluid movements that felt both grounding and freeing. It reminded me how much space the body can take when it’s not braced against a schedule. By the end, my muscles were loose, my skin dewy and my mind somewhere between focus and float. When her soft voice finally broke the silence, I wasn’t quite ready to leave that slow rhythm behind. Luckily, I didn’t have to because I was also here to try something extra: a HydraFacial Couture treatment, customised with La Vallée’s protocol. I’d been curious about this Swiss brand, known for its use of Alpine botanical extracts, glacial water and high-performance active ingredients across its signature lines. I’m a regular HydraFacial fan, but I was eager to see it paired with this luxurious twist. This part began with the lights coming back on for a quick skin check: tone, hydration, elasticity, texture. She said I had resilient skin, with a hint of dehydration here, a few congested spots there, but nothing a bit of Swiss precision couldn’t handle. She started with a deep cleanse, then moved on to a gentle lymphatic drainage using a suction cup attached to the HydraFacial device. Not painful, just a steady rhythm that you can feel reactivating everything under the surface. Then came the exfoliation phase, that familiar mix of glycolic and salicylic that leaves a subtle, satisfying tingle, the kind that tells you it’s working. By the time we got to the extraction, it felt like relief, the machine pulling out what doesn’t belong while infusing what does.

The real difference came next as the HydraFacial Couture brought in La Vallée’s own touch: a double-masking ritual using the Caviar Essence Masque (as per what I needed). Cool and refreshing on my face, with a nearly glassy texture. Sorormi used it to perform a deep, sculpting facial massage – firm, rhythmic, with that precision that made me wonder why I ever thought doing it at home by myself was enough. Then she reapplied a second layer, left it to work and moved to my scalp, working in slow, hypnotic motions. Another round with the device brought a shot of antioxidants and the Britenol booster (a blend of vitamin C, raspberry extract and peptides), followed by a few quiet minutes under the LED light. The caviar serum and day cream sealed it all in. When she handed me the mirror, my skin looked clearer, tighter, the tone evened out and the puffiness was gone. Safe to say, this visit was more than worth it. On the way back to the changing room, I saw the Hammam and honestly, it was hard to walk past without stopping. It is all marble, soft mosaic tones and a huge heated stone table in the middle of the room. I instantly wanted to lie down on it and disappear for a while. Definitely on my list now! She asked if I wanted to enjoy the rest of the facilities: sauna, hot tub, experience shower and even a cold plunge. The space isn’t big, but that’s part of its charm. Unfortunately, my schedule didn’t leave room for it this round. But that just gives me another reason to come back and next time, I’m not leaving until I’ve tried everything.

Minimal Yet EXPRESSIVE JEWELS

This month, we embrace the universe of gems with a brand-new name: Akshita Rattha Fine Jewellery.

Defined by sculptural elegance, quiet symbolism and intricate craftsmanship, Akshita Rattha Fine Jewellery honours individuality and embodies the lightness of being. Founded by designer Akshita Rattha, each creation is meant to be a modern heirloom – timeless, wearable and crafted with ethnically sourced gemstones. The brand starts its journey with three collections: Auraya, Marelle and Talora. Auraya explores the harmony of form through sculptural design and sacred geometry. Crafted in 18-carat gold and adorned with fine gemstones, each piece reflects convergence and balance, blending organic curves with architectural lines in jewels that are intentional and versatile.

Marelle is a lyrical exploration of the ocean’s quiet strength, drawing inspiration from coral forms and the rhythm of tides. Sculpted in gold with vibrant gemstones, Marelle reimagines marine beauty in a way that feels fluid, serene and deeply connected to nature’s resilience. The Everblooming, 18-carat white gold statement earrings featuring ombre diamonds and white diamonds, beautifully express Marelle’s fluidity.

Talora is a collection named after the Latin word for dew – a symbol of grace, renewal and quiet strength. Inspired by the luminous stillness of dawn where light and water converge in fleeting brilliance, Talora translates this moment into a series of sculptural jewels in 18-carat white gold, adorned with incandescent pearls and brilliant-cut diamonds. Designs such as the Serina, in 18-carat white gold, with briolette diamonds and emeralds, trace a path of suspended light, and the Lunira, in 18-carat white gold, with round and rose-cut diamonds and baguette-cut diamonds in a channel setting, cascades with diamonds like droplets across a moonlit sky.

Drawing from a legacy of heritage maisons while embracing a contemporary vision, the brand speaks to a discerning global clientele who view jewellery as an extension of self, art patrons, collectors and women who wear each piece as a reflection of meaning and empowerment.

“At the heart of my work lies the belief that jewellery is more than adornment. It is a personal expression – a story of empowerment carried through form and stone,” says Akshita. @akshitaratthafinejewellery

A Life of INNOVATION and ENTERPRISE

This month, OHLALA spoke to Donna Benton, the mind and force behind the lifestyle savings concept: the ENTERTAINER.

DONNA BENTON

OHLALA – You founded the ENTERTAINER in 2001, providing BuyOne-Get-One-Free offers in dining, travel and more. How did this concept pop into your head? Back then, did you ever imagine that it would become such a big idea, inspiring others?

Donna Benton – When I launched the ENTERTAINER in 2001, it really came from a simple idea: I loved going out, discovering new restaurants and experiences, but I also wanted to make it affordable. Dubai was growing fast, and I saw an opportunity to create something that helped people enjoy more while spending less. That’s how the Buy-One-GetOne-Free concept was born. I never imagined it would grow into what it is today. Celebrating 25 years as one of the region’s leading lifestyle and savings brands, with thousands of offers across the GCC. It’s amazing to see how a simple concept evolved into a must-have app that helps people save, connect and truly live life to the fullest.

OHLALA – You are the perfect example of a visionary entrepreneur. Where has this skill taken you? What are all the concepts that you’ve created or have been involved with?

Donna – Thank you! I’ve always been driven by curiosity and a genuine desire to make everyday life better. The ENTERTAINER was my first major venture but over the years, I’ve been involved in many hospitality, lifestyle and digital innovation projects. I think being a visionary is about identifying opportunities before they become mainstream. For example, transforming the ENTERTAINER from a printed book into an innovative, data-driven app back in 2013. Now, we’ve taken it even further with our AI-powered in-app assistant, H.A.P.I., which gives users instant support and personalised recommendations. I’m constantly inspired by how technology can enhance real-life experiences – it’s about creating joy and value at the same time.

OHLALA – Why did you choose the Middle East to establish your businesses? What is it about this region that makes it a great place to propel new ideas?

Donna – The Middle East has such a dynamic energy; it’s always looking forward. When I arrived in Dubai, I saw a region full of opportunity, where innovation is embraced and people truly value great experiences. The GCC is an incredible market for us because people here love dining out, wellness and travel – and they’re tech-savvy. It’s also a region that supports entrepreneurs – that’s one of the biggest reasons I’ve kept my roots here for 25 years.

OHLALA – You took a break from leading the ENTERTAINER and have been back at the helm of the company since 2023. What made you come back, and what are the differences between being CEO then and now?

Donna – Coming back to lead the ENTERTAINER felt completely natural. This brand is part of me; it’s my commercial baby that grew into something much bigger than I ever expected. After some time away, I realised how much I missed driving innovation, staying connected with our users and staying true to our core. Being CEO today is about blending tech with lifestyle, ensuring the app feels intuitive, stylish and smart.

“I’ve learned so much along the way and if I can help others find their voice and build their dream, that’s success to me.”
– Donna Benton

OHLALA– What aspect of what you do do you like the most? And what makes you the proudest?

Donna – I love hearing how the ENTERTAINER genuinely changes people’s lives. Over the years, we’ve had stories of first dates at ENTERTAINER restaurants, families making memories at any one of our partner attractions and serious savings made by our users that have helped with school fees or house buying. What also fills me with pride is the loyalty of our customers and the trust of our partners, incredible brands who’ve been part of our journey. Seeing our members dine, relax and explore more while saving is what keeps me motivated.

OHLALA– If you had to attribute your success to one thing, what would it be?

Donna – Resilience and following my instincts. I’ve learned that in business, especially as an entrepreneur, things don’t always go according to plan. But staying adaptable, positive and focussed has been key. I’ve also been fortunate to have great mentors and a strong team who share my vision. Surrounding yourself with people who believe in what you’re building makes all the difference.

OHLALA– Can you give one golden tip for those looking into starting a business? What would be something to follow, no matter which field?

Donna – Solve a real problem and make sure you’re passionate about it. Passion is what fuels persistence, especially when challenges arise. Also, never underestimate the power of understanding your customer. When I created the ENTERTAINER, I wasn’t building a discount product; I was creating a lifestyle solution. Whether you’re launching a café, a tech startup or a service business, your focus should always be on how you make life better for your audience. And one practical tip: start now. Perfection can wait. Progress can’t.

OHLALA– What can we expect from Donna Benton’s next steps?

Donna – Right now, I’m focussed on taking the ENTERTAINER to the next level, making it more personalised, more intuitive and even more rewarding. I’m also passionate about mentoring the next generation of entrepreneurs, especially women in business. I’ve learned so much along the way and if I can help others find their voice and build their dream, that’s success to me.

@entertainerqat

This month, we take our travel pages on a journey into food-centred cities around the globe. Would you plan a trip solely focused on the food you will experience? We would.

The term culinary tourism has been getting a lot of attention lately, not just foodies (there are many of them out there, though), but there is a growing movement of people planning their vacations around specific restaurants and cuisines they would like to try. Visiting food festivals and taking cooking classes is also another layer of this trend that helps travellers connect with a destination’s culture through flavours.

A recent online survey conducted by Panterra Research revealed that 47% of travellers prioritise local cuisine as their top food and beverage experience. Airbnb reported that around 30% of its ‘experience’ category is now in the ‘food and drink’ option. Previously, food was seen as just an adjacent part of the trip, but now, it’s playing a central role. We have always enjoyed a memorable dining experience, and this month we bring you some destinations renowned for their exceptional cuisine, along with some eateries offering fine dining with local flair.

1. BANGKOK, THAILAND

The city has a reputation for vibrant food, mainly attributed to its street delicacies. The lively dining scene that populates the Thai capital is something that, once experienced, is forever remembered. The smells, different textures and offerings make anyone, even if not a food enthusiast, embark on a unique culinary journey. But Bangkok also offers a lot more than just cheap food. Its eateries have evolved over the years, with fine-dining spots taking over the city, once known for its street food. You can now find upscale and world-class restaurants committed to ‘sanuk’, a word that means fun and encapsulates the Thai concept of having joy in everyday life.

Thai cuisine is exciting, full of flavours and aromas, and Saneh Jaan is an ode to traditional dishes, aiming to preserve and value the authentic tastes of Thai food. The décor displays art pieces and images of local ingredients such as sweet basil, garlic vines and coriander, creating an ambience that puts food in first place.

Located at Praya Palazzo, Praya Dining offers a culinary journey through Siamese history. You can experience exquisite ingredients and the culture of Siam, which highlights Thai royal cuisine with its sophisticated preparations and vibrant presentations, complemented by the stunning views of the Chao Phraya River.

3. CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA

African, Dutch, Malay and Indian cuisines influenced South Africa’s culinary roots, making it a melting pot of flavour and consequently, exceptional food. The terrain in the Cape Town region contributes to a unique blend of ingredients; the vine-friendly slopes kissed by the Atlantic Ocean (meaning fresh seafood) result in dishes that use fresh elements but are seasoned with a unique blend of spices. The best part of dining in this city is that many eateries take advantage of the beautiful scenery and offer spots with stunning views. The gastronomic journey at La Colombe happens in a treehouse-like setting at the Silvermist Estate, conducted by Chef James Gaag. The creations first please the eyes with visually aesthetic dishes. On the menu, small gardens are made with seasonal ingredients, and an unusual mix of components such as wild boar and kimchi – umami flavours and innovation are key. Pier, in the words of the Head Chef John Norris-Rogers, is an ode to the ocean. It serves a multi-course tasting menu inspired by ingredients from the sea, celebrating what Cape Town has to offer in a refined experience –if you pay a visit, look for dishes such as curried hake and smoked mussels.

2. BOLOGNA, ITALY

Italy is renowned for its widely recognised Mediterranean dishes; however, Bologna is considered the country’s food capital. The popular Spaghetti Bolognese (Tagliatelle al Ragu – which is pasta with minced meat and tomato sauce) says all about its origin. The city is also the birthplace of the famous mortadella and the beloved Parmigiano Reggiano. This type of cheese, protected by the Denomination of Origin that follows strict guidelines and inspections, can only be produced in the cities of Bologna, Parma, Reggio Emilia, Modena and Mantua, all located in the Emilia Romagna region. If that’s not enough reason to visit the city, its medieval architecture and financial importance might help.

For those looking to escape the buzz of the city, these two restaurants will hit the spot. Casa Mazzucchelli, located in Sasso Marconi between the Bologna Hills and Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, blends family traditions with innovative techniques in the hands of Chef Aurora Mazzucchelli and her brother Massimo. With Emilian and Sicilian roots, the menu is an expression of hearty dishes with leavened goods, such as bread, stealing the show.

L’800 restaurant is located in an old farmhouse in the Argelato countryside in the province of Bologna. It features period furniture and regional cuisine using unique ingredients such as snails and frogs’ legs. It also offers a tasting menu totally dedicated to snails.

4. COPENHAGEN, DENMARK

Since the opening of Noma in 2003 (founded by René Redzepi), Copenhagen has become a reference in the food field, significantly influencing global fine dining. The restaurant is a pioneer of the new Nordic movement, emphasising seasonal, local and foraged ingredients, which have helped turn the city into a landmark in the culinary world. Despite changing its original format and no longer functioning as a regular restaurant, it has evolved into a cuisine lab now, with a limited number of seats. Noma remains relevant, having been featured in the acclaimed TV show, The Bear

If you are looking for more than an exciting menu, Alchemist combines gastronomy, drama, art and spectacular visuals to create a holistic dining experience. Pre-information that you must have is that the experience lasts from four to six hours and patrons are requested to come with curiosity and presence of mind. The downside is that it might take three months to get a reservation.

Another restaurant worth checking is Geranium, with a light vibe and a mission to create meals that involve all senses. The restaurant is located on the eighth floor in Fælledparken (Common Gardens) in the centre of Copenhagen. It offers a plant-based, seafood-focussed tasting menu inspired by the seasons and Danish traditions.

6. SAN SEBASTIÁN, SPAIN

This city in Spain’s Basque region is well-known worldwide for its namesake cheesecake. However, the place is not only famed for this sweet delicacy but also for its pintxos (tapas) and dishes like txuleta (an aged steak) and bacalao al pil-pil (cod fish prepared in a special sauce). A spot for discerning gourmands, but also a great destination if you appreciate coastal vibes and Belle Époque architecture. The good news is that every cobbled street in the Old Town hides a dining gem, and you can book food tours. Looking for something fancier, San Sebastián has one of the highest concentrations of Michelin-starred restaurants in the world.

Located in a pedestrian street in the city’s old quarter, Casa Urola, headed by Chef Pablo Loureiro, offers traditional Basque cuisine with a twist. It has a lively pintxos bar, but also a stylish dining room on the first floor. Market-inspired dishes and fish and meat cooked on the grill, with black monkfish a highlight, compose the menu.

Ikaitz is a family-run restaurant located in the Gros district, focusing on traditional regional dishes. A selection of fish, meat and locally sourced ingredients celebrates the Basque flavours – grilled octopus and boneless oxtail are some of the must-try options.

5. LISBON, PORTUGAL

Well known for its sardines, salted cod and eggy desserts, the Portuguese capital is a destination for food lovers looking for something comforting but with that extra pizzazz. The small country has significant marine influences, but also knows how to explore its land produce with traditional recipes mixing grandmothers’ expertise and sailors’ discoveries around the world. The city was recognised as Europe’s Best Culinary Destination in 2024 by the World Culinary Awards. An excellent destination for lovers of fresh seafood, seasoned meat, hearty soups and flaky desserts. Prado not only embraces local ingredients but also follows the ‘farm-totable’ concept, which exudes fresh and seasonal dishes. At the heart of the eatery is Chef Antonio Galapito, who emphasises the importance of smallscale producers and lets the seasons inspire his creations. A tasting menu is offered in the evenings.

Set on a side street in the popular Bairro Alto, Essencial blends French techniques with seasonal Portuguese ingredients in the hands of Chef André Lança Cordeiro. Vol-au-vent de Lavagante and Moleja (lobster and sweetbread vol-au-vent) and Pithiviers de Novilho (beef pie) are some of the main highlights. It offers a fixed-price tasting menu that is complemented by grape pairing – a spot-on choice.

7. TOKYO, JAPAN

According to the Mastercard Economics Institute’s Travel Report, Tokyo was the trendiest summer destination in 2025 (from June to September 2025). The Japanese capital has many attractions, and its culinary offerings are one of the reasons it attracts so many tourists. The city’s unparalleled skill of blending heritage with futuristic elements makes dining there an exciting experience. Forget about sushi and sashimi that you’ve eaten elsewhere in the world; the culinary journey in Japan is unique and most probably not easy to find in another geographical location.

Japanese restaurants typically feature a minimalist interior design, allowing the food to take centre stage. Ginza Kousui praises seasonal ingredients in its menu, highlighting delectable ingredients from the mountain and sea. The Shizuoka-born chef plays with guests’ five senses with unique flavours and eye-catching presentation.

Chef Kazuki Tagaki heads Chisou Koryu, where he expresses his desire to create dishes that entertain guests through his unique perspective on ingredients. His creative menu includes puffer fish spring rolls, monaka wafer cake filled with monkfish liver and more innovative recipes.

Where SMOKE, SPICE and SOUL MEET

An encounter with Latin American flavours is what AMS experienced at Fuego.

Located within the JW Marriott Marquis City Center Doha, Fuego delivers refined Latin American cuisine that blends bold flavours with elegant presentation. We were greeted at the door by friendly staff members and ushered through the initial section of the dining area, located beside the kitchen, which is encased in glass and offers a fantastic view of everything that was going on. The first thing that struck us was the smell of smoke – that beautiful, meat-flavoured smoke clearly coming from the Josper.

The interior is sophisticated and warm, with brown leather chairs, rich wood panelling and bookshelves lining the walls. The low lighting made it atmospheric. Our server took us to a seat beside the window, where we had terrific views of the city below. We were offered water and one of the signature mocktails, Mar Del Plata, a very refreshing concoction served in a dome that trapped rose-flavoured smoke. It was innovative, invigorating and delicious, adding a certain theatre to the evening.

Chef Younes came to our table and began proceedings with some freshly made brown bread. It had a super-crunchy exterior and a soft, fluffy centre. There were two types of flavoured butter: one with chimichurri and another with chive oil, giving it a very satisfying green colour.

STARTERS THAT SET THE TONE

We started with the Tacos de Cangrejo. The soft-shell crab tacos had a delicate crunch that gave way to sweet, tender meat, lifted by the gentle heat of habanero sauce. The corn tortilla added earthy warmth, holding everything together in perfect balance. Each bite carried a mix of spice, smoke and the sea.

The Brochetas de Carne followed – tenderloin skewers coated in a dark glaze. The whole dish was served on top of a grill with plumes of smoke constantly infusing everything with fresh waves of flavour. Chef Younes was eager to point out that this was one of the house favourites, and it was easy to see why. The panca chilli gave a subtle, smoky depth, while the roasted potatoes underneath provided a soft, buttery contrast. The chimichurri cut through it all, adding freshness to every mouthful. At this point, I had to stop myself from eating it all, knowing more was coming.

A RELAXED AMBIENCE

As we reclined, a large group arrived and was seated in front of the kitchen, where they enjoyed a clear view of the chefs at work. More diners began to fill the space, yet the restaurant maintained its calm, composed rhythm. It was a relaxed, unhurried setting, perfect for conversation and lingering over food.

MAIN HIGHLIGHTS

For our mains, we were served succulent king prawns. The Langostinos were beautifully charred, the edges slightly caramelised and the flesh firm yet tender. They sat in a rich crab bisque with a deep, smoky flavour that perfectly complemented the sweet prawns. The yuzu butter added a citrus brightness, while caviar brought a delicate burst of saltiness, rounding each bite with luxurious depth.

The Chuleton de Buey, a generous 500g Argentinian Angus T-bone, was definitely the showstopper. It arrived perfectly grilled, with a caramelised crust and a juicy, pink centre. The meat carried that unmistakable Josper kiss of smoke; each mouthful was buttery and indulgent. It just melted in the mouth. The kitchen had built layers of flavour by burning herbs such as rosemary to infuse the steak with an added depth of smokiness. The extra care was noticeable in every bite.

SWEET FINALE

For dessert, we shared the Tres Leches and the Passion Fruit Cheesecake. The tres leches was beautifully presented, with a scoop of lemon mint sorbet resting delicately on top, adding a cool, zesty freshness. It sat in a bed of crème Anglaise that gave the whole dish a silky richness. The sponge itself was moist and perfectly balanced, not overly sweet. This was paired with a passion fruit cheesecake, bursting with brightness – its bold, citrusy zing instantly woke up the palate. The creamy cheesecake filling mellowed the sharpness beautifully, while the biscuit base added a satisfying crunch that tied it together. It was a lively, well-judged finish to an exceptional meal.

FINAL IMPRESSION

The experience reflected a skilled and passionate team, devoted to delivering authentic Latin flavours. From the distinctive use of Aji Amarillo paste to thoughtful touches like pickled onions and microgreens, every detail spoke of care and precision. Fuego delicately balances flair and authenticity, fully deserving its reputation as one of Doha’s leading dining experiences. It definitely won’t be long before we return.

A MODERN CLASSIC

OHLALA SLIPPED BEHIND THE WHEEL OF THE MERCEDES-BENZ E 200 TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENS WHEN CLASSIC REFINEMENT MEETS MODERN AMBITION.

There’s something reassuring about a Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Like a favourite designer handbag, it never tries too hard – it just quietly reminds you why you chose it. So when the new E 200 Saloon arrived for our test drive, we knew we weren’t merely meeting another executive saloon; we were being reintroduced to a classic reinvented for a new era.

From its sculpted lines to its digital intelligence, this generation promised elegance with an edge – refined for the modern world. We were eager to see if it could deliver that blend of comfort, confidence and unmistakable sophistication that Mercedes-Benz embodies.

EFFORTLESSLY ELEGANT

Our first impressions were unanimous – the E 200 carries itself with such poise that we found ourselves standing a little straighter just looking at it. Every surface reflects Mercedes-Benz's attention to proportion – elegant rather than loud, with a confident sense of balance that draws the eye naturally along its profile.

The front end sets the tone: a wide grille crowned by the illuminated three-pointed star, flanked by Digital Light headlamps that effortlessly reveal the road ahead. The AMG Line exterior sharpens the silhouette – sculpted bumpers, clean lines and 20-inch AMG multi-spoke wheels complete its runway-ready stance. At the rear, slim LED lamps and twin chrome tailpipes complete the look. It’s modern without trying too hard –composed, confident and camera-ready from every angle.

A MODERN SANCTUARY

Inside, the E 200 greeted us with an instantly lavish feel. Tonka-brown ARTICO leather wrapped the seats, dashboard and doors so beautifully we started questioning every design choice in our own living rooms. Pianoblack trim and open-pore ash wood added contrast, while ambient lighting – all 64 shades – let us match the cabin to our mood and even our nail polish. The AMG Line interior refined the atmosphere with a Nappa-leather steering wheel, elegant stitching and comfort seats that remembered every preference. Above, the panoramic sunroof filled the space with natural light, highlighting craftsmanship in every curve. The result is a cabin that feels indulgent yet practical – a place that blends comfort with a quiet sense of privilege.

TECH WITH TASTE

Mercedes-Benz calls it the MBUX Superscreen, and the name fits. A sweeping glass panel stretches across the dash, merging a 12.3-inch display with an OLED passenger screen and a built-in selfie camera that feels distinctly futuristic.

“The E 200 carries itself with such poise that we found ourselves standing a little straighter just looking at it.”

The Burmester surround-sound system gave our playlist concert-level clarity, while Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connected wirelessly and instantly. The head-up display projected key data onto the windscreen and MBUX Augmented-Reality navigation overlaid directions onto live street views – the kind of innovation that makes regular sat-nav feel prehistoric. The best part? Everything just worked so smoothly that we stopped testing it and simply started enjoying it.

PERFORMANCE WITH PURPOSE

Once on the move, the E 200 revealed its true nature: smooth, composed and quicker than its calm demeanour suggests. The 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with EQ Boost delivered 204hp so seamlessly that we almost missed the switch between electric and petrol power. It reached 100km/h in 7.5 seconds and, at our private test site, continued to 240km/h – always calm, stable and impressively quiet.

The 9G-TRONIC gearbox moved through its gears like a choreographed dance, precise and unhurried, making city driving effortless. Out on the highway, it glided with balance and refinement. The mild-hybrid system smoothed every start and added a gentle push when needed – proof that performance can be both intelligent and indulgent.

SAFETY IN MOTION

Safety has always been a Mercedes-Benz strength, and the E 200 continues that legacy. Systems like Active Distance Assist Distronic, Blind Spot Assist, Attention Assist and Collision Prevention Assist Plus kept a watchful eye while we focused on the drive. The 360-Degree Parking Package proved its worth when Active Parking Assist guided us neatly into a café space barely wider than the mirrors at the first try, no fluster.

The Agility Control suspension balanced comfort with precision, keeping the car composed over bumps and around bends. Add Pedestrian Protection, Tyre Pressure Monitoring and auto-dimming mirrors and it felt as if the vehicle anticipated trouble before we even noticed it.

PARTING IMPRESSIONS

After a full day behind the wheel, the E 200 left us impressed and a little reluctant to hand back the keys. It reminded us why Mercedes-Benz remains the benchmark for effortless grace. The AMG Line styling, mildhybrid refinement and sense of poise in every detail make this saloon feel familiar yet refreshingly new.

For those who appreciate luxury expressed through craftsmanship rather than extravagance, the E 200 defines understated excellence. It fits seamlessly into daily life, turning routine drives into moments that feel considered and calm. By the time we parked it for the last time, one thing was clear: this isn’t just a car that performs beautifully, it’s one that feels perfectly in tune with its driver.

NEWS FLASH!

The gossip, the drama and the outfits everyone’s talking about, all with Miss Ohlala.

As if piercing ears, noses and eyebrows wasn’t enough, shoes have joined in too. Tory Burch started it in 2023 with Chelsea boots sporting toe rings and metal-hooped mules. Now Cult Gaia and Lado Bokuchava are turning loafers, Mary Janes and boots into full-blown jewellery statements. Footwear is officially loud, absurd and Instagram can’t get enough of it.

Butter yellow has finally melted away, and chartreuse is here to take over. That yellow-green shade that can’t decide what it wants to be but is everywhere. It instantly brightens (or burns) the eyes, depending on who you ask. Bottega, Chloé and Maison Margiela are all hooked, proving that people are now kind of done with neutrals.

JW Anderson x Uniqlo is the latest obsession online. Influencers joke it’s “Dior for less” since Jonathan Anderson now leads Dior, so the logic tracks, sort of. Smart shirts, Marino wool knits and corduroy jackets are all selling out fairly fast. Affordable luxury disguised as everyday staples. It’s minimal effort with maximum hype.

Remember when Maria Grazia Chiuri stepped down and everyone kept speculating where she’s headed next? The same designer who reshaped Dior is heading back to FENDI, the brand where it all began for her. She’s taking over as Creative Director, bringing her signature brand of feminism-meetscraftsmanship, sharp tailoring, softer storytelling and a new chapter for FENDI’s modern woman.
