This October 16th, let’s raise a toast (or a scoop!) to Hyderabad’s culinary heritage, embracing the flavours that connect us to the past and propel us into a delicious future. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, Hyderabad’s food scene promises an unforgettable journey, one plate, one sip, and one story at a time

Halloween has grown into a global celebration of creativity a night where anyone can transform into something spooky, glamorous, or downright surreal. Once rooted in ancient Celtic rituals, the festival has morphed into a worldwide phenomenon where imagination takes centre stage. Costumes, décor, and candy may grab attention, but makeup has truly become the star of the season. It’s affordable, versatile, and endlessly expressive, proving you don’t need a pro kit or hours in front of the mirror to create a head-turning look.

This year, the DIY spirit is stronger than ever. With nothing more than eyeliner, lipstick, and a little imagination, you can conjure up everything from a glittering fairy to a gothic siren. Platforms like TikTok and Instagram are overflowing with quick tutorials, and closer to home, Hyderabad’s vibrant makeup community is showing us that spooky season can be equal parts glamorous and accessible.

To guide you, Tulip turned to some of Hyderabad’s most talented makeup artists, who shared quick, at-home Halloween looks that anyone can recreate. Think 30 minutes, everyday products, and maximum impact. These looks are proof that with the right strokes of kajal, a dash of lipstick, and some creativity, you can channel your alter ego and slay the night.

The Possessed Nun – by Dr. Saba Fatima (@sabby.makeup)

Hyderabad-based MUA Dr Saba Fatima, better known as Sabby, takes Halloween glam into gothic territory with her spinechilling Possessed Nun look. It’s dramatic, eerie, and surprisingly easy to recreate at home with everyday products.

The Eyes: Start with a dark, moody eyeshadow base. Soft browns, greys, and blacks work best. Sabby suggests palettes like L’Oréal La Palette Nude or e.l.f. Bite-Size

Eyeshadow in “Trendy”. For extra effect, draw inverted crosses under your eyes with an eyeliner pen, then dab a little glitter for a supernatural shimmer.

Brows & Lashes: Sharp, straight brows are key think strict and severe, not soft or arched. Products like the NYX Micro Brow Pencil can help create that controlled, demonic vibe. Amplify the drama with a thick eyeliner wing, falsies like Ardell Demi Wispies, and plenty of mascara.

Skin & Lips: Skip the warmth and keep things cold and haunting. A light contour and a touch of lavender or icy pink blush give that “undead” undertone. For lips, go bold and sinister with deep plum, black, or blood red. Sabby recommends Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink in “Ruler” for a long-lasting vampy finish.

The Costume Hack: No nun is complete without her habit. DIY it with a white scarf for the veil, paired with a black dress or separates. Finish with a spritz of setting spray to lock the look in all night.

Tulip Tip: This look works brilliantly for house parties, it’s low effort on clothes but high drama on the face.

Outfit Recommendation by Tulip Magazine:

Women: A simple black maxi dress or bodycon paired with a DIY white scarf as a nun’s veil. Add silver cross earrings or rosary beads to tie it together.

Men: Black trousers and a black button-down shirt layered with a long black coat. Drape a white stole/scarf to mimic a priestly/nun vibe.

Morticia Addams Makeover – by Ganghortri’s Kaul (@gangothris.mua)

Nothing says spooky chic quite like Morticia Addams pale skin, hollowed cheeks, and a stare that could kill. Hyderabad-based MUA Ganghortri S Kaul reimagines the gothic icon in a way that’s bold yet totally DIY-able.

The Base: Start with a foundation 1–2 shades lighter than your skin tone for that signature ghostly glow. Ganghortri used Dior Foundation in Shade 2.5N, but any lighter base works. Set only the untouched areas (not the contour or blush zones) with a loose powder she recommends TFIT, though whatever you already own will do the trick. For an extra edge, drape a bun net or stocking over your face and brush contour through it to create an eerie, webbed shadow effect.

Contour & Blush: Using a stiff, fluffy brush, dab black and red cream products on your cheeks, nose, and forehead. Ganghortri swears by the Forever 52 Lipstick Palette for these shades, applied lightly so the effect stays smoky, not streaky.

The Eyes: Blend a dark brown eyeshadow into your crease, brighten lids with white shadow, and smudge a deep maroon under your eyes like kajal. Define with black shadow eyeliner, then curl your lashes and coat with mascara for Morticia’s piercing stare.

The Lips: Outline with black kajal or cream pencil, smudge slightly, and fill in with a rich red lipstick for a gothic ombré pout.

Pro Tips: Use light dabbing motions with your brush too much pressure can muddy the look.

Feeling overwhelmed? Choose either black or red contour; both give a similar haunted effect.

Practice the blend on your hand before committing to your face.

Outfit Recommendation by Tulip Magazine:

Women: A long, sleek black gown (stretch jersey or lace works). Keep it gothic with a deep neckline and dramatic sleeves. Pair with dark nails and minimal silver jewellery.

Men: Go for a Gomez-inspired look: a pinstripe black suit, a white shirt, and a slicked-back hairstyle. A fake cigar or pocket square makes it playful.

Tulip Tip: This look is pure drama perfect for anyone who wants a little runway glamour in their fright night.

Dark Feminine Energy – by Dia Ambika Singh

Not all Halloween looks have to involve hours of contouring or layers of special effects; sometimes, a little smoke and shadow is all you need to turn heads. Makeup artist Dia Ambika Singh keeps it minimal with what she calls the “Dark Feminine Energy” look: sultry, sharp, and surprisingly effortless.

The Eyes: Start by cleaning your waterline with a cotton swab to make sure your kajal applies smoothly. Using Lakmé Kajal, line your lower lash line and inner corners for that instant smoky depth. Next, reach for the e.l.f. Eyeliner and draw a fine, precise line on your upper lid. To finish, extend a tiny triangle at the inner corners of both eyes, a subtle tweak that transforms a classic look into something mysterious and edgy. The Vibe: Think of it as gothic glamour without the fuss. It’s quick, wearable, and perfect if you’re looking for a last-minute Halloween fix that still oozes drama. Pair it with a bold lip (deep maroon or classic red), leave your skin fresh and dewy, and you’ve nailed the “I didn’t try too hard, but I look like a spell” aesthetic.

Tulip Tip: If you’re hopping across multiple parties in one night, this is the low-maintenance glam you want and adding a red lip, which is bold, would never fail.

Outfit Recommendation by Tulip Magazine:

Women: Little black dress (LBD) or leather skirt + sheer black blouse. Add chokers or layered silver chains for an edge.

Men: Black jeans with a fitted black t-shirt and leather jacket. Combat boots add that smoky, mysterious energy.

Monochrome Skull Illusion with 3D Accents – by Emraan Artistry (@emraanartistry)

For the ones who dare to be bold and stand out, this monochrome skull illusion is the ultimate showstopper. It’s haunting, high-drama, and with the 3D twist, unforgettable.

Steps:

Apply a white cream base to one half of the face.

Blend black cream paint on the other half, extending to the neck and shoulders.

Deepen the eye sockets with black and grey eyeshadows for a hollow effect. Add a red teardrop under the eye using liquid lipstick or red face paint. Paint the nose tip black for a skeletal finish.

Draw vertical white strokes across the lips and chin to mimic skull teeth. Add 3D details: stick googly eyes or paint raised dots on the black side for a surreal illusion.

Products Recommended:

White & black cream paints Kryolan, Mehron, Snazaroo Black, grey & red eyeshadows

Red liquid lipstick (for teardrops)

Optional: stick-on googly eyes for 3D effect

Tips:Blend carefully where white and black meet to avoid harsh lines. If 3D is too much, skip it. The monochrome base is dramatic on its own. Always set with translucent powder to keep paints intact through the night.

Tulip Tip: This looks incredible in photographs. Perfect if you’re going all out for that Instagram moment.

Outfit Recommendation by Tulip Magazine: Women: Black ripped jeans or leather leggings with a studded black top. For extra drama, throw on a hooded black cape or oversized blazer.

Men: All-black outfit, t-shirt and jeans with a distressed denim or leather jacket. Add skeletal gloves or accessories to match the face paint.

 Final Word

From hauntingly glam to playfully eerie, these looks prove that Halloween isn’t just about costumes it’s about stepping into an alter ego, head to toe. Whether you’re channeling Morticia’s timeless gothic elegance, a nungone-dark fantasy, or daring to paint on a skull illusion, remember: confidence is your best accessory. Pair it with the right outfit, own the night, and watch the room turn when you walk in.

So, grab your brushes, raid your closet, and conjure a look that’s unapologetically you spooky, sultry, or somewhere in between. After all, Halloween comes once a year… but the pictures last forever.

Neeshma & Nikhil with family

3. Are there any special dishes or foods that are commonly prepared during Diwali in your family?

Diwali is never complete without homemade sweets and snacks. From laddoos to murukkus, every bite feels like love and tradition passed down through generations.

4. Can you share a memorable or heartwarming Diwali experience from your life?

One of my favorite Diwali memories is watching my kids light their first sparklers, it was such a heartwarming moment seeing the excitement and joy on their faces

1. What is the significance of Diwali for you and your family?

Diwali has always been a festival of light, joy, and togetherness for our family. For us, it’s not just about traditions but also about creating memories and celebrating the bond we share.

2. How do you personally celebrate Diwali, and what are some of your favorite traditions or rituals associated with the festival?

We decorate our home with diyas and rangoli, do the Lakshmi puja together, and light fireworks with the kids. The best part is everyone coming together in festive clothes, with smiles all around.

3. Are there any special dishes or foods that are commonly prepared during Diwali in your family?

Oh, absolutely! The food is at the very heart of our Diwali celebration. Our home becomes a hub for traditional Gujarati delicacies. The most famous dish we prepare is Undhiyu, a seasonal vegetable casserole that is a labor of love. We also make Murukul, which are savory and crispy snacks, along with our staple sweets like Shakkarpara and Gud Papdi. These dishes aren't just food; they are an expression of our culture and an integral part of what makes our Diwali so memorable.

Can you share a memorable or heartwarming Diwali experience from your life?

For me, the most heartwarming Diwali experiences have come from a beautiful "tug of war" I find myself in every year since getting married. Both my family and my husband's family go above and beyond to make their celebrations a grand affair. While it can feel like I'm split in two, gracefully navigating between the two homes is the most rewarding part. My most cherished memories are those moments of being fully present in both places, sharing in the joy and receiving a double dose of love. It’s a powerful and truly heartwarming feeling to be so wholeheartedly a part of two families.

1. What is the significance of Diwali for you and your family?

For us, Diwali isn't just a day—it’s an entire season of celebration. As a Gujarati family, the festivities really kick off right after Navratri and last for almost a month. It’s a beautifully elaborate and deeply cherished time that signifies new beginnings and a fresh start. The significance lies in this extended period of coming together, with every family member playing a role in preparing for the grand event.

2. How do you personally celebrate Diwali, and what are some of your favorite traditions or rituals associated with the festival?

Our celebrations are a wonderful blend of tradition and festivity. The preparations themselves are a ritual. The deep cleaning of our home begins well before Navratri, a tradition that prepares our physical and spiritual space for the blessings of Diwali. Then, a true culinary marathon begins. We spend weeks making countless batches of homemade Gujarati sweets and snacks, like shakkarpara and gud papdi, filling our kitchen with the most wonderful aromas. The main three days—Dhanteras, Roop Chaudas, and the day of Diwali—are a whirlwind of devotion. We perform a number of pujas at both our home and our workplaces. It’s a time to honor our heritage and express our gratitude, surrounded by family, light, and laughter.

Priyanka & Ravi

3. Are there any special dishes or foods that are commonly prepared during Diwali in your family?

Oh, absolutely! Food is the highlight. My mom’s homemade mithai always steals the show, especially her kaju katlis, which disappear faster than the diyas burn out. Along with sweets, we have crunchy snacks like murukku and chakli that keep everyone nibbling through the evening. And of course, half the fun is packing little boxes of these and sending them off to friends and neighbors, it’s our version of spreading joy.

4. Can you share a memorable or heartwarming Diwali experience from your life?

One memory that always stays with me is sitting with my grandmother as a child while she told us stories of why we celebrate Diwali. The sparkle in her eyes was brighter than any firecracker outside. Even today, when I light the first diya, I think of her and the warmth of those moments. For me, that’s what Diwali is about, carrying forward those little traditions of love and storytelling, and passing them on.

1. What is the significance of Diwali for you and your family?

For us, Diwali is really the time when everything slows down and comes back to what matter- family, laughter, and home. It’s a reminder that no matter how busy life gets, the festival of lights pulls us together, hence our favourite festival. It feels like the universe gives us a reset button every year, wipe off the dust, let go of the old, and welcome new beginnings with a smile

2. How do you personally celebrate Diwali, and what are some of your favorite traditions or rituals associated with the festival?

Our celebrations always begin with a big cleaning spree at home-half ritual, half chaos! By the time we’re done, the house sparkles almost as much as the diyas we light later. The Lakshmi pooja is the one moment we all sit still, but otherwise the day is full of chatter, laughter, and the smell of ghee lamps everywhere. My absolute favorite tradition is stepping outside at night and seeing the entire neighborhood glowing, it’s like the world is dressed up for a wedding.

3. Are there any special dishes or foods that are commonly prepared during Diwali in your family?

During Diwali we fast till evening and then have traditional South Indian tiffins

4. Can you share a memorable or heartwarming Diwali experience from your life?

For me Diwali is all about love and light celebration at our office with my full family of 30 people

1. What is the significance of Diwali for you and your family?

Diwali, for me, is much more than just a festival of lights—it’s a time of connection, reflection, and renewal. While it’s rooted in rich cultural and religious traditions, the true essence of Diwali lies in what it brings to my life personally: warmth, togetherness, and hope.

2. How do you personally celebrate Diwali, and what are some of your favorite traditions or rituals associated with the festival?

For our family Diwali morning is very special. Me and my daughter we give harathi to my husband and son before sunrise and then I go to my dads place to give harathi to him .

Evenings we do Lakshmi pujas at all our offices. Diwali next day I perform Kedar Eshwari nommu.

3. Are there any special dishes or foods that are commonly prepared during Diwali in your family?

As typical Sindhis, food marks an important prep in the run up to Diwali. My mother-in-law, my co-sister and I together make special Diwali mithai to use in our Lakshmi puja, to distribute to our loved ones and of course, for our kids! We make traditional 'chikki' - we call it 'laai' - a combination of peanuts, chana dal, almonds, dry fruits or puffed rice, mixed with sugar or jaggery syrup to form thin strips of the sweet goodness.

On Diwali day, our tradition calls for using at least 7 vegetables in the food that we cook to thank the Almighty for his bounties and pray for a fruitful year ahead - we usually end up using all the 7 or more vegetables to make Veg Biryani, Pav Bhaaji or a Mixed Vegetable Gravy. Choley Bread is also something we typically make as a family since we all love it and my sister-in-law makes these amazing stuffed tikkis that we all savour and cherish, even the next day! We also make a Dry Fruits Kheer - basically milk reduced down to make it thick and sweet with loads of cut dry fruits added.

At my parents place, it is more of a casual, snacky affair during Diwali. They have a lot of guests visiting in and out, so they make samosas, dhoklas, pani puri and dahiwadas which everyone loves!

4. Can you share a memorable or heartwarming Diwali experience from your life?

Every Diwali brings us closer to each other, as a family. My most memorable Diwali would probably me my first one as a married woman - as I realized I could celebrate my favorite festival in more than one home now. Also, every Diwali since I have had my kids is so much more special than the previous because I get to pass on our culture and traditions through them and what could be more beautiful than that!

1. What is the significance of Diwali for you and your family?

Diwali is the happiest, most precious time of the year for me and my family. The days leading up to Diwali are filled with anticipation, of the little activities we do to stay connected to our roots, figure out Diwali day and night outfits and so much more. At the same time, over the years, the festival has become more about grounding ourselves in the tradition and culture that adorns it, as opposed to meaningless displays of pomp and festivity. Slowing down, spending time with each other, calling our loved ones all over the world to wish them, visiting relatives in the city, doing things that give us joy as a family - that's what Diwali is all about.

2. How do you personally celebrate Diwali, and what are some of your favorite traditions or rituals associated with the festival?

The countdown to Diwali starts as soon as Dussehra is over and all of us together have great fun prepping for Diwali. Yes, it does get a little exhausting as we have to manage daily lives as well with festive cleaning and preparations, but it is a happy exhaustion that we all welcome. We deep clean our home from top to bottom as we prepare to welcome Goddess Lakshmi. In the process we find things that we think we've lost in the past year and make space for new things too! We source traditional mitti diyas, soak them in water, dry them and then paint them to use at home as well as gift our loved ones. This is an activity my kids and I love doing together as there's something so heartwarming about seeing the flames on a lit mitti diya that we have decorated together. We make mithai at home, stock up on nuts and dry fruits and basically just enjoy the family spirit.

On Diwali day, it is all about decorating the house using flowers and diyas, making a flower rangoli to welcome the goddess, doing the Lakshmi puja at home, my parents home and my in-laws homes and having good food cooked with love together. Simple joys!

HYDERABAD'S ETHNIC ELEGANCE

C i t y ' s T o p D e s i g n e r s

This isn't cookie-cutter couture it's personal powerful, and profoundly local, celebrating the woman who navigates boardrooms in Banaras brocades by day and sangeets in sequined shararas by night

We've zeroed in on seven trailblazing designers, each a force in their own right: from Shravan Kummar's boho bridal reveries to Rimzim Dadu's architectural edge For each we ' ve cherry-picked one Instagrammodelled look, diverse in form, vibe, and craft, to spotlight the magic These aren't surface scans; they're deep dives into the threads' tales, the artisans' sweat, and the wearer ' s unspoken swagger Whether you ' re curating a trousseau or craving that one standout for Diwali dazzle, consider this your insider's atlas to Hyderabad's heartbeat in haute form

Hyderabad, the City of Pearls, has always worn its heritage like a perfectly draped Kanjeevaram opulent, unapologetic, and layered with stories of Nizami courts, Deccan dynasties, and modern multicultural mash-ups From the labyrinthine bazaars of Laad Bazaar where zardozi threads catch the light like scattered diamonds to the high-rises of Jubilee Hills buzzing with fusion fashion weeks the city's ethnic wear scene is a living tapestry of tradition reimagined Here designers don't just stitch fabric; they weave narratives, drawing from Golconda's ancient weaves, Qutub Shahi motifs, and the subtle sheen of Bidriware into silhouettes that bridge bridal extravagance with everyday poise

It's a scene fueled by artisan clusters in old Hyderabad, where handlooms hum late into the night, and pop-up ateliers in Banjara Hills experiment with sustainable silks and recycled gota In 2025, with sustainable ethnic wear surging 35% in India (per recent FICCI reports) Hyderabadi labels are leading the charge: think organic khadi fused with laser-cut mirrors or velvet capes nodding to Mughal miniatures

Shravan Kummar: The Bohemian Bridal Dream

Step into the dappled shade of a heritage haveli courtyard, where the air thickens with the low hum of rabab strings and the faint rustle of betel leaves being folded for guests—that's the world Shravan Kummar conjures with effortless alchemy. Their emerald silk lehenga, captured in a sun-kissed Insta reel from a recent bridal edit, is worn by a willowy model whose loose, henna-tattooed waves and kohl-smeared gaze evoke a nomadic princess mid-tale.

The skirt flares like a monsoon-swollen river, its panels hand-dyed in layers of verdant greens that shift from deep pine to lime sorbet under Hyderabad's relentless sun, each pleat weighted with zardozi embroidery of twisting vines not mere decoration, but a literal growth chart of the designer's rural Telangana roots, where motifs are sketched from wild neem branches foraged at dawn. Artisans in the label's Begum Bazaar workshop spend up to 40 hours per piece, layering gold-wrapped threads with microscopic precision, ensuring the vines "climb" asymmetrically for movement that mirrors a dancer's sway during the baraat. The cropped choli, a whisper of sheer organza edged in scalloped lace, clings just enough to trace the model's lithe form, its crystal-embellished neckline dripping like morning dew on lotus leaves a deliberate nod to the city's pearl legacy, with Swarovski drops sourced from Laad Bazaar's pearl-mongers. Draped asymmetrically over one shoulder, the moss-velvet dupatta pools at the elbow like a forgotten lover's shawl, its frayed edges hand-torn for that lived-in romance.

This isn't bridal armour for the timid; it's a manifesto for the unbridled ideal for the Hyderabadi bride who wants to command her mehendi like a forest deity. In a season where sustainability whispers louder than screams, Shravan's use of surplus silk scraps, upcycled from old sarees, turns extravagance into ethos. Wear it, and you're not just dressed; you're descended from queens who ruled with roots and rebellion.

Ashwini Reddy: The Everyday Heritage Whisper

Dawn breaks over Hussain Sagar, casting a golden haze on joggers and chaiwallahs alike, and in that quiet hum of urban renewal, Ashwini Reddy's handloom cotton fusion kurta set emerges as the unsung poet of the everyday. Spotted in her story highlight from a casual ramp walk, the model with her high ponytail swinging like a temple bell rope and a stack of oxidised bangles clinking softly channels the unhurried grace of a woman threading through Begum Bazaar's morning market, bargaining for fresh mogra.

The burnt ochre hue, a deliberate echo of Telangana's sun-baked plateaus, is woven on pit looms by cooperatives in Puttaparthi, the cotton's irregular slubs adding texture like whispered secrets in the weft. Each yard is a testament to the designer's commitment to reviving forgotten handloom villages, where weavers earn fair wages for patterns passed down matrilineally.

The kurta's asymmetry is its soul: a high-low hem scalloped like the edges of a vintage Bandhani dupatta, skimming ankles on one side while grazing knees on the other, allowing breezy movement for Hyderabad's sticky afternoons. Belted at the waist with a chunky gold chain, forged from recycled temple jewellery, the silhouette cinches without constraining, creating a gentle hourglass that flatters without fanfare.

Mirror work adorns only the sleeves, tiny irregular discs hand-appliquéd in the shape of Bidriware inlays, catching errant sunbeams like fireflies in a jar—not overwhelming bling, but a quiet sparkle that rewards close inspection. Paired with straight-leg pants in the same ochre, subtly printed with faded paisleys that bleed like watercolour memories, this set defies the "occasion-only" ethnic trap. Ashwini's philosophy, "heritage as habit, not heirloom" shines here, blending grandma's loom with Gen-Z minimalism. Slip it on, and you're not just clothed; you're carrying the city's pulse.

Aisha Rao: A Tapestry of Color and Craft

Set against the tranquil waters of Udaipur, this Aisha Rao creation rises like a living canvas where couture becomes both spectacle and story.

Known for her bold maximalism and narrative-driven embroidery, Rao’s design philosophy is to celebrate color without apology and craft without compromise. This lehenga exemplifies that vision: architectural motifs interlace with florals, embroidered in jewel tones that shimmer with an almost painterly luminosity. The structured blouse paired with the sweeping skirt balances edge with elegance, making the silhouette timeless yet daringly modern.

But beyond its visual drama lies Rao’s true artistry her ability to transform heritage into emotion. Every motif is deliberate, every hue is charged with memory, evoking grandeur that feels rooted yet restless, traditional yet experimental.

To wear Aisha Rao is to step into a world where fabric becomes voice, embroidery becomes narrative, and couture transcends fashion to become an inheritance of beauty, reimagined for today. Here, heritage doesn’t whisper it sings.

Vasireddy's The Design Studio: The Festive Fusion Fury

Envision the thrum of a mehendi mela in full swing, dhol beats pounding like heartbeats, henna artists etching tales on palms, and in the midst of it all, Vasireddy's crimson georgette sharara suit erupts like a Mughal miniature come alive. Pulled from their festive drop reel, the model owns the frame with squared shoulders and a defiant chin, her jhumkas swinging like metronomes to an invisible qawwali rhythm.

The pants billow wide as a courtesan's fan, their georgette panels gathered at the ankles with gota patti borders in molten gold laser-cut and hand-appliquéd by a team of 20 in the studio's Hi-Tech City outpost. Topping it is a short jacket, its tailored silhouette a masterclass in fusion: padded shoulders for architectural edge, fastening with oversized buttons carved from camel bone, etched with geometric jaali patterns.

The crimson isn't flat—it's ombre-dyed from ruby red to blush pink at the hems, evoking the blush of a bride's first stolen glance. This look screams mehendi mayhem: practical for all-night dancing, yet polished enough for Instagram lives. Vasireddy's ethos, "ethnic with an edge," shines in reinforced seams for durability, and modular elements like detachable sleeves for day-to-night versatility.

Jayanti Reddy: The Cocktail Power Pulse

Twilight descends on the yacht club by Hussain Sagar, where champagne flutes clink against the lap of waves and the skyline twinkles like a string of pearls. Enter Jayanti Reddy's sapphire velvet gown, a hybrid beast that prowls the line between redcarpet rebel and rooted ritual. Featured in her cocktail couture series on Insta, the model struts with the coiled energy of a panther, her high collar framing a gaze that's equal parts intrigue and invitation.

Crafted from heirloom velvet looms in Kanchipuram, the gown's deep blue hue hugs the body in a mermaid silhouette, embroidered in resham waves that crash in silver and indigo, hand-stitched over 50 hours. A daring side-slit reveals embroidered leggings beneath—cotton churidar panels inked with Telugu folk motifs of peacocks and lotuses. The detachable cape, fluttering like a superhero's mantle, is the showstopper, lightweight chiffon edged in sequins, fastened with a brooch of antique kundan.

This is cocktail couture with a conscience the velvet's bio-wash finish repels stains, and inner linings from recycled PET bottles align with Jayanti's carbon-neutral collections. Wear it, and you're owning the room, a velvet vortex of velocity and valour.

Kaastaan by Divaa Jain: The Sheer Reception Spell

In the hushed glow of a wedding reception hall, Kaastaan by Divaa Jain's tissue-green lehenga casts a spell of translucent temptation. From their bridal '25 preview post, the model poses with the languid poise of a lotus eater, her back turned to reveal the lehenga's lowdrape magic.

Tissue silk, so fine it rivals spider silk, floats in layers that catch breath like fog over the Deccan plateau, the green shifting from mint to emerald in the light. Hand-embroidered with cutdana beads in vine patterns, each glassy orb faceted by hand in Jaipur, sewn in a crossbody drape allowing pleats to fan like a peacock's tail during the jaimala exchange.

The low-back blouse in faded rose pink organza ties at the nape with silk cords, its minimalism a counterpoint to the skirt's opulence. Jain's innovation includes embedded RFID tags for authenticity tracking and organic sizing charts. This lehenga isn't for the shrinking violet; it's for the reception queen who wants sparkle without the scratch.

Rimzim Dadu: The Armored Urban Edge

City lights bleed into the night over Necklace Road, a neon vein pulsing with ambition, and Rimzim Dadu answers with her charcoal raw-silk pant-suit a sartorial sword, sharp as a stiletto, draped in the armour of ancient epics remixed for the now. Debuted in her urban ethnic edit reel, the model commands the lens like a boardroom warrioress, one hand on her hip, the slashed thigh flashing skin like a challenge issued.

Raw silk, rough-hewn from Assam’s mulberry groves, grounds the charcoal gray in tactile grit. The straight-leg pants slice high on one thigh in deliberate asymmetry, vent edged in black sequins forming geometric shards. The cropped jacket, wired stiff at the seams, buttons asymmetrically with horn toggles carved in tribal motifs.

Hyderabad’s ethnic wear landscape is an ever-expanding canvas of imagination, tradition, and reinvention. What makes it stand apart from the rest of the country is not only the deep cultural resonance of the city, with its old-world bazaars and palatial heritage, but also the way its designers have been able to translate that into clothing that feels fresh, modern, and globally relevant. Each designer that we looked at brings something distinct to this evolving narrative. Anushree Reddy, with her delicate pastel florals and whimsical embroidery, has carved a space in the hearts of brides who want to look ethereal without losing the drama of celebration. Jayanti Reddy, by contrast, leans into heritage handlooms and muted tones, allowing her ensembles to exude gravitas and timelessness, almost like walking heirlooms that can be passed from one generation to another. Shravan Kumar continues to ground his practice in the weaves and crafts of India, proving that sustainability and rootedness can coexist with glamour.

The city also makes room for designers who want to bend the rules. Rimzim Dadu’s sculptural approach to fabric manipulation turns a sari or jacket into a work of wearable art, making tradition feel radically contemporary. Divaa Jain through Kaastaan pays homage to India’s textile richness but with a couture-like finesse that appeals to modern sophisticates. Ashwini Reddy, Sowmya Reddy, and the team at Vasireddy’s Design Studio all add further textures to the scene with their ability to fuse trend-led design with traditional motifs, ensuring that Hyderabad remains not just a city of memory but also of experimentation.

What is remarkable here is how the city has fostered a spectrum rather than a single look. There is the romantic bride, the serious aesthete, the cultural revivalist, the rebel artist, and the young cosmopolitan who wants her lehenga to sparkle on Instagram but still nod to her grandmother’s craft legacy. Together, these designers prove that “ethnic wear” is no longer a monolithic category reserved only for festivals or weddings. Instead, it has become a living, breathing expression of identity that can shift depending on mood, setting, and intention. Hyderabad’s fashion ecosystem has matured into one that balances commerce with conscience. The heavy investment in handwork and handlooms sustains artisans across the country, while the innovative silhouettes ensure that these garments remain aspirational on a global stage. Wearing one of these creations is no longer simply about looking beautiful. it is about making a statement of values, heritage, and individuality.

As the city continues to grow as a fashion capital, these designers remind us that the real luxury lies not in excess but in meaning. Each garment holds within it the skill of countless hands, the memory of age-old traditions, and the boldness of a designer willing to reinterpret them for today’s world. Hyderabad’s ethnic wear scene, then, is more than fashion. It is a conversation between past and present, between craft and creativity, and between the personal and the collective. To step into one of these outfits is to step into a story, and perhaps that is the truest definition of style.

nner Revolution: hinking Mental Health

Every October, World Mental Health Day serves as a global reminder that the most delicate organ we carry our mind requires as much care as the body we so diligently train and nourish. In our era of relentless hustle, curated perfection, and constant connectivity, mental well-being is often relegated to the shadows However, wellness, as the world is beginning to realise, is incomplete without acknowledging the silent weight of our emotions, our fears, and the resilience within us. The past few years have taught us, in ways both personal and collective, that the mind needs as much tending as the body. Anxiety, stress, and burnout are not confined to statistics; they are realities intertwined with our modern lifestyles, driven by constant deadlines, digital overexposure, and the social pursuit of perfection.

World Mental Health Day, then, is not just about recognition it is about revolution. It urges us to break silences, dismantle stigma, and prioritise well-being beyond hashtags and occasional campaigns It underscores that seeking help is an act of courage, compassion is a necessity, and awareness is our first tool in reshaping the culture around mental wellness This year, we step beyond surface conversations into a deeper discourse on awareness, acceptance, and healing To uncover the nuances of what mental health truly means in contemporary life, we sat down with a leading psychologist from UCCHVAS , whose insights offer both gravitas and hope

Dr. Shaziya Inayath, a Clinical and Rehabilitation Psychologist at Ucchvas, specializes in evidence-based therapies and holistic mental health care. With certifications in CBT, DBT, REBT, and Trauma-Informed Care, she brings over 5 years of expertise to patient recovery.

Q. Could you tell us a little about your journey into psychology/therapy and what inspired you to choose this field?

My passion for healing took root in childhood, as I saw firsthand through my grandmother how hope can change lives. I felt drawn to healing, but I longed to help people beyond medicine. By chance, I entered the field of psychology, and within a year, it had transformed into my true calling. Now, as a counselling, clinical, and rehabilitation psychologist with five years of experience, I am deeply committed to understanding the human mind, alleviating suffering, and fostering resilience. What began as curiosity has grown into a purposeful journey of restoring hope, growth, and meaningful change.

Q. What are the most common mental health concerns you see people struggling with today?

Mental health is a universal part of our well-being, yet it is often overlooked until struggles begin to affect daily life. What makes it even more important is that challenges look different at every stage of life, shaping how we feel, relate, and grow. In children, I often encounter behavioural, emotional, social, and neurodivergent concerns, made more complex by the fast-paced world and the widening gap in parent–child understanding due to technology and modern lifestyles. Adolescents frequently wrestle with identity formation, peer pressure, depression, and fragile self-esteem. Young adults face academic stress, career uncertainty, and relationship difficulties. Adults commonly present with anxiety, depression, burnout, marital strain, and unresolved trauma. In older adults, loneliness, grief, and cognitive decline are significant concerns. While each stage carries its own battles, with empathy, guidance, and timely intervention, healing and growth remain possible.

Q. How has the conversation around mental health changed over the past decade?

For a long time, mental health has carried heavy stigma seen as a weakness, dismissed as “just in the mind,” or overshadowed by the priority given to physical illness Many people still hesitate to speak about their struggles out of fear of judgment, shame, or being misunderstood. Therapy is still viewed as unnecessary or taboo. Yet over the past decade, we have also seen remarkable progress. Scientific research has deepened our understanding of mental health, public conversations have become more open, and younger generations in particular are embracing therapy and self-care. While challenges remain, this shift shows that we are slowly moving from silence and stigma toward awareness, empathy, and acceptance.

Q. Why do you think stigma around mental health still exists, and how can society work toward breaking it?

Stigma around mental health persists because many fear judgment and feel vulnerable sharing personal struggles. Thoughts like, “What if someone thinks I can’t handle my own life?” hold people back. Society must foster empathy, normalize help-seeking, and create supportive spaces—seeking help is strength, not weakness.

“Courage is asking for help, not hiding your pain.”

Q. How can someone recognize when they might need professional help?

If you notice persistent sadness, worry, irritability, or a loss of interest in things you once enjoyed (anhedonia), it may be a signal to seek help. Other common signs include difficulty managing emotions (emotional dysregulation), sleep or appetite changes, trouble concentrating, and feeling constantly overwhelmed or stuck.

Q. How can parents and educators help children and young adults build emotional resilience from an early age?

Building emotional resilience means learning that expressing your emotions, even crying, is not a weakness. It’s about finding ways to cope, managing stress, practicing empathy, and gratitude, while staying adaptable. With support, open communication, and practical tools, you can face life’s challenges with confidence and real emotional strength.

Q. What message would you like to share with readers on World Mental Health Day?

Your mind is a garden. Some days it blooms, other days weeds take over. Mental health isn’t about perfection— it’s noticing the weeds, tending them gently, and celebrating small sprouts of hope. Rest, feel, struggle, and grow. Caring for your mind is not weakness—it’s courage and self-love. As our conversation closes, one truth remains: mental health is not a luxury of time and privilege, it is a baseline requirement for living fully. World Mental Health Day is both a celebration of awareness and a call to action. It is about creating a world where vulnerability is not weakness, but strength; where speaking out is met not with silence, but with solidarity. We believe this dialogue does not end with an interview or a single day of recognition. It extends into how we treat ourselves and others—today, tomorrow, and every day after. In reclaiming mental health as essential, we edge closer to a future where healing, wholeness, and humanity are not whispered, but spoken aloud.

For those who crave endorphin highs beyond the regular treadmill grind, Hyderabad’s courts and clubs are where the action explodes. Pickleball, the city’s fastest-rising sensation, brings together millennials and moms on electric blue turf —smash, sweat, repeat. Badminton remains an urban classic, fueling 7 AM adrenaline packs among commuters and college stars. But the real flex is in fusion fitness: think aerial yoga, where you dangle from silks in sun-lit studios, or mat Pilates and Zumba sessions that mesh muscle tone with groove and grit. There’s even a growing clique trading running shoes for stirrups at Hyderabad’s horse-riding academies, adding equestrian rush to the city’s fitness repertoire.

On any given morning, Hyderabad’s fitness clubs and run raves set the tempo for urban transformation. Run clubs like Hyderabad Runners turn university boulevards and city parks into electric tracks for thousands—everyone from first-timers to marathon qualifiers clocking miles, chasing sunrise, and building kinship with every stride. Special runs like the Club Run and Farm House Run harness a true festival vibe, bringing together families, solo fitness enthusiasts, and social tribes, uniting them in the pursuit of stamina and self-discovery. And as wearable tech gets smarter and hybrid membership models take off, every workout is engineered for peak performance and shareable moments.

They’re all in— keeping up with trends, mixing intensity with mindfulness, and proving that Hyderabad’s fitness culture isn’t just about add-ons and checklists. It’s an unfiltered, shared pursuit for adrenaline, connection, and a kind of euphoria only found when sweat meets community and trend.

Entertainment Round-Up: From Bollywood Satire to Global Showstoppers

Ridhima Bhangay

September has always carried a certain rhythm. It’s the month when the rains start to fade, festivals begin to dot the calendar, and screens big and small are suddenly flooded with content that feels larger-than-life. This September, though, the entertainment world seems to have conspired to outdo itself. From Bollywood poking fun at its own excesses to South Indian cinema rolling out a gangster spectacle, from Hollywood closing the doors on one of horror’s most beloved franchises to a teenager rewriting Emmy history, there has been no shortage of drama both scripted and unscripted. And if that wasn’t enough, live sports kept hearts pounding with edge-of-the-seat action across cricket, football, and more.

Let’s take a closer look at the stories that shaped the month stories that prove once again that entertainment is not just about what plays out on screen, but about the conversations, debates, and cultural moments they spark.

Bollywood: The “Bads” of Bollywood – Aryan Khan’s Satirical Debut and Emraan Hashmi’s Viral Cameo

When Aryan Khan announced he was finally making his debut in Bollywood, many assumed he would follow the traditional star-kid trajectory: a glossy big-budget film, a carefully curated launch, and a heavy promotional push. Instead, Aryan flipped the script. His Netflix series The Ba**ds of Bollywood landed on September 18 and instantly became the most talked-about release of the month.

The seven-episode satirical thriller is a gleeful takedown of the industry that raised him. Starring Lakshya as an ambitious outsider navigating the murky waters of Bollywood, the show spares no one: nepotism, drug scandals, award-show politics, and even superstar egos are all fair game. Cameos by Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan playing exaggerated versions of themselves turned the satire into a cultural spectacle. Viewers found themselves watching with equal parts disbelief and delight as Aryan wove in self-deprecating humor, including sly references to his 2021 drug bust arrest. While critics have debated whether the show digs deep enough into systemic issues, fans have hailed it as “a pulp-fuelled takedown” that Bollywood never saw coming. The writing is razor-sharp, the pacing slick, and the humor unapologetically meta.

And then came Emraan Hashmi. His cameo as an “intimacy coordinator” has gone viral, thanks to his crackling chemistry with Raghav Juyal’s fanboy character. When Juyal belts out Kaho Na… Pyaar Hai in mock tribute, Emraan effortlessly parodies his own “serial kisser” legacy, leaving fans howling with laughter. YouTubers, meme pages, and even Bollywood gossip forums agree: it might be the best cameo of the year.

For Aryan Khan, the series has done more than just entertain it has positioned him as a voice willing to laugh at the circus while still being part of it. And for audiences, it has proven that Bollywood’s “bads” can, in the right hands, make for some very, very good television.

Hollywood: Endings and New Beginnings

Across the Atlantic, Hollywood delivered two distinct yet equally memorable moments. First came The Conjuring: Last Rites, released on September 5. Billed as the final outing for Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson as Lorraine and Ed Warren, the film marked the ninth instalment in the ever-expanding Conjuring universe. Directed by Michael Chaves and inspired by the real-life Smurl haunting, the film blended eerie VHS-style sequences with emotionally charged exorcisms. Critics may have found it less terrifying than its predecessors, but fans praised the emotional resonance of the Warrens’ farewell.

Financially, it was no slouch either, grossing $400 million worldwide and ranking as the fourth-highestearning horror release in the post-pandemic era. James Wan’s cameo suggested there may still be spinoffs in the pipeline, but for audiences, this chapter felt like a genuine curtain call. If Conjuring was about closure, the Emmys were about fresh beginnings. On September 14, 15-yearold Owen Cooper made history as the youngest male winner ever in the Outstanding Supporting Actor category for his debut in Netflix’s Adolescence. His portrayal of a troubled teen accused of murder left audiences shaken, and the Emmy jury clearly agreed. In his tearful acceptance speech, Cooper confessed, “I was nothing three years ago, and I’m here now.” His win broke a record that had stood since 1973 and positioned him as one of Hollywood’s brightest young talents. Together, these moments one a goodbye, the other a breakthrough, underscored Hollywood’s unique ability to balance nostalgia with renewal.

South Cinema: Pawan Kalyan’s OG Teaser Lights a Firestorm

If Bollywood chose satire this month, Tollywood chose firepower. Telugu superstar Pawan Kalyan unleashed the teaser of his long-awaited gangster drama OG (Original Gangster) on September 20, and within just 48 hours, it had racked up over 50 million views. Directed by Sujeeth and produced by DVV Entertainment, the film portrays Pawan as a ruthless mob leader ensnared in a betrayal-ridden underworld. The visuals are brooding, the action sequences explosive, and the background score by Anirag Kashi pulsates with intensity. Fans are already dubbing it “the Diwali firecracker,” a testament to the hype it has generated even before its theatrical release on September 25. Adding to the excitement is Emraan Hashmi’s role as the antagonist — his second viral moment of the month after the Netflix cameo. For Bollywood actors, crossing over into South cinema has often been a mixed bag, but early buzz suggests Emraan might have found the perfect fit here. Priyanka Mohan brings emotional depth with a romance subplot, but make no mistake: OG is Kalyan’s show through and through. Social media has erupted with memes of his fiery dialogues and screengrabs of his intense stare. The mid-teaser twist, hinting at a hidden alliance, has only added fuel to the fire. With competitors like Akhanda 2: Thaandavam and Kaantha also vying for audiences, OG seems poised to dominate, not just in Telugu but across Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi markets. September, it seems, has truly become a gangster’s paradise.

Sports: When the Drama is Real

Entertainment doesn’t stop with films and shows; some of the month’s most thrilling stories came from the world of sport.

In cricket, India beat Pakistan by six wickets in a Super 4 clash at the Asia Cup on September 22, with Abhishek Sharma’s explosive 74 off 39 balls sealing the win. The result extended India’s unbeaten run and set the stage for another chapter in this historic rivalry. Badminton brought its own highs and lows. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty battled their way into the finals of the China Masters, only to fall short against Korea’s Kim Won-ho and Seo Seung-jae. Meanwhile, PV Sindhu’s slump continued with her eighth consecutive defeat, raising questions about form and fitness. Across the globe in the NFL, the Cleveland Browns stunned the Green Bay Packers with a last-second 55-yard field goal block returned for a touchdown. The Buffalo Bills cruised past the Miami Dolphins, while Tampa Bay’s Chris Godwin inched closer to a return from injury. College football delivered its own drama with Oklahoma dominating Auburn and Indiana soaring in the rankings.

And of course, soccer remained the beautiful game. Lionel Messi scored a brace for Inter Miami against D.C. United, while Manchester City frustrated Arsenal with a disciplined 1-0 win courtesy of an early strike from Erling Haaland. The common thread? No scriptwriter could have delivered the same highs and heartbreaks.

September 2025 will be remembered as the month when entertainment stretched across every medium and every emotion. Aryan Khan proved Bollywood can laugh at itself. Pawan Kalyan reminded audiences that South cinema knows how to build a spectacle like no other. Hollywood said goodbye to its most iconic paranormal couple while embracing the rise of a new star. Sports, as always, reminded us why reality often trumps fiction. From satire to stardom, from gangster thrills to supernatural chills, from stadium roars to Emmy applause, this was entertainment at its most alive. And as the world turns its gaze toward the festive season, one thing is clear: the show never stops; it only finds new ways to surprise us.
