He opened with a 7-6 (2), 6-4 win over Dallastown’s Daniel Wu then lost to eventual second place finisher Andy Chen (Hershey) 6-1, 6-3 in the quarterfinals. In semifinal action last Tuesday, the Comets were shut out by No. 2 seed Hershey (15-0). Rabatin again faced Wingert and fell short 6-0, 6-2 while Billis took on Chen and also lost, 6-3, 6-2. The Trojans ran the table in straight sets in the other three matches. Looking to qualify for states, the Comets took care of business and No. 5 Palmyra, with a hard-fought 3-2 thriller. Rabatin had the toughest match, beating Aidan Mahaffey 6-7 (2), 6-0, 7-5 while Billis and Davis both won in straight sets to clinch the win.
BASEBALL The Comets put together three competitive outings over the last week but fell short 4-2 against Cedar Crest on May 7, 2-0 to Dallastown one day later and 5-4 last Monday against Elizabethtown. They have lost eight games this season by three or fewer runs. “It’s been a tough year but I’m proud of the kids for being competitive,” said head coach Streeter Stuart. “Our pitching was solid but we didn’t find a way to get our offense rolling.” The Comets, down 2-0 against Crest, tied the game in the bottom of the sixth, loading the bags and scoring when QJ Hanna was hit by a pitch and Brad Frey singled. Then, with two outs, Crest took advantage of an error and a base hit to score the winning runs. The Comets loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom half but missed the hit that could have changed the outcome. Max Jesberger fueled the six-hit attack with a 3-4 effort. Dallastown scored the only run they needed with a two out double in the third and made it 2-0 with a solo homer one inning later while denying the Comets a single hit. At home last Monday the Comets jumped out to a 4-0 lead after four innings only to see the Bears rally with five in the top of the sixth. The hosts finished the season at 4-13 overall. SOFTBALL The Comets wrapped up the regular season last Tuesday, May 11 with their fourth straight win, an 11-0 shutout, their seventh, over Solanco, and improved to 17-3 overall. Manor connected for six of their 13 hits in the first inning, scoring four runs. They added four more in the second and

Peters earned the three-hit win with eight strikeouts and one walk. BOYS’ LACROSSE The boys’ lacrosse team wrapped up their regular season with a crushing 21-2 win over Cedar Crest May 6 and two days later dumped non-league Twin Valley 15-5, pushing their overall record to 12-5. “We try to control the little things (communicating, hustling, playing with heart and grit, being a good teammate) that do not take lacrosse skill,” said head coach Zack Charles of the team’s success this year. “This team has done that and more. Four of our five losses are to two teams, Hempfield and Township.” Behind Clayton Hollinger’s seven goals and three assists, the Comets swept the series against the Falcons. They took control with a 13-0 run through the second and third quarters. Isiac Nafziger (4g, 1a), Dylan Keene (3g), Benedict Flinchbaugh (2g, 2a), and Eli Warfel (2g) rounded out the multiple goal scorers. Saturday C. Hollinger poured in six goals, dished out a pair of assists and broke the school record for points in a season. “Clayton finished with 84 goals and 25 assists (109 points), breaking the previous record held by assistant coach Brady Charles set in 2013,” Charles pointed out. Manor took charge with an 8-1 first half effort. Nafziger backed Hollinger with three goals and two assists and Jack Barley (2g, 1a), Keene, Cole Spezialetti, Aidan Gerlach and Logan Dittenhafer, with one goal each, also contributed. TRACK The Comets came away with some notable performances at the Henderson Invitational in West Chester May 8. Most impressive was Graham Thomas with a 14 second PR in the 3200. His 9:08.73 breaks the school record he set two weeks ago and is 4th fastest 3200

Kaleb Kabakjian was another record breaker, dropping eight seconds off his PR with a time of 4:39.59 in the mile. “This is eight seconds off the freshman record set by Joel Burkholder in 2012,” said Shober. Eden Crisman finished third in the pole vault with an 11-8. Back in league play last Monday, the visiting Falcons handed the boys’ an 89-61 loss while the girls’ also fell victim to the Falcons, 92-58. Kyle Murr’s jumping hat trick sparked Manor’s first place finishes. Murr secured the long, triple and high jumps while the pole vaulters swept the field. Leo Medvedkin finished first, Brayden Clow was second and Drew Lebo took third. Dorian Zimmerman (javelin), Jaryd Klienhaus (shot put), and Aaron Eaby (discus) rounded out first place finishes. The girls’ found the bulk of their success in the field with Maddie Whited (triple), and Jalyn Clow (discus) earning firsts. On the track, Ann Bibus won both the mile and 3200. But the highlight was Chrisman breaking the pole vault record by clearing 12-7. The old record, 12-6, was set by Jocelyn Witmer in 2008. “And Alyssa’s high jump, a PR, cleared five feet to win the meet,” said Shober.
