Corporate giving allows your company to strengthen employee engagement and boost morale while demonstrating a meaningful commitment to the community.
Every time I’m in the clinic, seeing patients, I feel like I’m making a difference. When you see treatment plans for patients with cancer work and they are here years later to say how happy they are for the outcomes, that to me feels like the biggest difference I could possibly make in someone’s life.
– Dr. Suresh Ramalingam Executive Director, Winship Cancer Institute

– Robert W. Woodruff “ ”
I’m going to build a clinic just for cancer, so people will think Emory before they think of any other place.
Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University has been at the forefront of cancer care, research, and education in Georgia and the Southeast for almost 90 years. It was established in 1937 as the Robert Winship Memorial Clinic, founded through a generous gift from Robert W. Woodruff, the influential president of The Coca-Cola Company. Woodruff had lost his mother to cancer that same year. Because she had to leave Georgia to receive treatment, he made the gift to ensure that other families in the state would have access to high-quality cancer care closer to home. The clinic was named in honor of Woodruff’s maternal grandfather, Robert Winship, and laid the foundation for what Winship Cancer Institute is today. As Georgia’s only National Cancer Institute (NCI)- designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, Winship delivers care defined by excellence, innovation, and compassion.
Winship provides access to world-class cancer care through a comprehensive network of facilities and services at eight Emory Healthcare locations across metro Atlanta. As a leader in cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship, Winship cares for tens of thousands of patients each year, including 17,000 new patients annually. Winship’s multidisciplinary teams work together to provide personalized, research-driven treatment plans supported by access to more than 300 clinical trials annually.
A member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), Winship helps establish national standards in oncology care, and consistently earns high patient satisfaction ratings. Winship is also recognized among the nation’s top 50 cancer programs by U.S. News & World Report and remains committed to accelerating progress through groundbreaking discoveries and equitable access to care.
Through meaningful partnerships, Winship can continue to bring hope to patients and their families. Your support can bring about the next lifesaving treatment.
The Winship Way embodies a relentless commitment to compassion, innovation, and collaboration in the pursuit of a world without cancer. This is more than a philosophy — it’s a standard that distinguishes Winship Cancer Institute from other cancer centers in Georgia and across the region.
The Winship Way is how we:
• Translate groundbreaking research into lifesaving treatments
• Prioritize the whole person through integrative, patient-centered care
• Foster collaboration across scientists, clinicians, and community partners
• Lead with purpose in education, prevention, and discovery
• Empower every patient, family, and supporter to be part of the cure
The Winship Way isn’t just what we do, it’s how we lead.

The leading causes of cancer-related death among women in Georgia are lung, breast, colon, and pancreatic cancer. These cancers account for almost 50% of cancer deaths in the state.
By partnering with Winship Cancer Institute, your organization will fuel innovation and hope for the patients and families we care for today as well as those we will have the ability to care for in the future. Workplace giving allows employees to support meaningful causes through employersponsored charitable programs. By choosing to direct contributions to Winship Cancer Institute, employees help advance innovative cancer research, support compassionate patient care, and invest in the future of cancer treatment.
For companies, workplace giving fosters a culture of generosity and civic engagement. It strengthens employee morale, enhances job satisfaction, and reflects a shared commitment to community well-being. Companies that promote charitable giving are often seen as more socially responsible—something that resonates with both employees and consumers alike.
Whether through payroll deductions, matching gift programs, or special fundraising campaigns, workplace giving is a powerful way for businesses and their teams to join Winship in the mission to transform the future of cancer care.
An estimated $4-$7 billion in matching gift funds goes unclaimed per year.
65% of Fortune 500 companies offer matching gift programs.
Over 26 million individuals work for companies with matching gift programs.
An estimated $2-$3 billion is donated through matching gift programs annually.
84% of donors say they’re more likely to donate if a match is offered.
1 in 3 donors indicate they’d give a larger gift if matching is applied to their donation.
Corporate matching gifts are one of the most effective ways to amplify the generosity of your employees while demonstrating your company’s commitment to community impact. When an employee makes a charitable contribution to Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University, your matching gift can double—or even triple—their support.
Most companies match donations dollar for dollar, though matching ratios and guidelines vary. By offering a matching gift program, your company not only boosts employee engagement and satisfaction but also helps advance Winship’s mission to prevent, treat, and ultimately cure cancer. Together, you and your employees can play a powerful role in transforming the future of cancer care.
A challenge campaign is a powerful way to rally a community around a common goal within a defined timeframe. Often, a business or donor offers a matching gift—dollar for dollar or at a set percentage—once a specific fundraising target is met. These campaigns can be led by the company itself or by a champion within the organization, with the company’s generosity and leadership recognized throughout the effort.
While gifts can be made at any time of year, a designated giving day or challenge campaign creates a unique moment that inspires urgency, focus, and participation. It also highlights your company’s philanthropic commitment in a highly visible and meaningful way.
Challenge campaigns are effective because they:
• Provide donors with a clear goal and timeframe.
• Create a sense of momentum and shared purpose.
• Encourage greater giving by showing how individual donations can be multiplied.
• Make supporters feel part of something bigger—and motivate them not to miss out.
• Help accelerate progress for cancer patients and families while energizing your community to join you in supporting Winship’s mission.
Hope begins with research. Hope lives in research teams that span multiple disciplines with a clear mission of making a difference in the lives of the patients we serve. These teams will change the way we think about cancer, prevent cancer, diagnose cancer and treat cancer.
– Dr. Adam Marcus Deputy Director, Winship Cancer Institute
At Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University, research is at the heart of everything we do. As Georgia’s only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, Winship drives innovation across the entire spectrum of cancer research—from basic science to clinical trials to population health.
Our researchers are investigating the fundamental biology of cancer to understand how it develops, spreads, and resists treatment. This includes exploring the genetic and molecular mechanisms that drive cancer cells, with the goal of identifying new therapeutic targets. Winship’s labs study everything from the tumor microenvironment to the immune system’s role in fighting cancer, laying the groundwork for breakthroughs in immunotherapy and targeted therapies.
Translational research is a key strength at Winship. Scientists and clinicians work side-by-side to move promising discoveries from the lab to the clinic, often through first-in-human clinical trials. Winship’s Phase I Clinical Trials Unit—one of the largest in the region—offers patients access to cutting-edge therapies that are not yet widely available.
In addition to treatment-focused research, Winship leads studies in cancer prevention, early detection, and survivorship. Population sciences teams analyze how lifestyle, environment, and genetics affect cancer risk and outcomes, particularly in underserved communities. This work helps shape public health strategies and advance health equity across Georgia and the Southeast.
Winship also plays a national role in shaping the future of cancer care. Our researchers lead cooperative group trials, contribute to national clinical guidelines, and receive major funding from the NCI and other agencies. Through collaborative programs across Emory University and Emory Healthcare, Winship brings together experts in oncology, nursing, engineering, public health, and more, creating a uniquely comprehensive research environment.
At its core, integrative oncology is common-sense, individualized care. We focus on practical, foundational tools—like diet, movement, sleep and stress management— things people can often start doing for themselves at home, for free.
– Dr. Anna Bausum Naturopathic Oncologist & Integrative Oncology Specialist Winship Cancer Institute
