HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE BOARD

I hope your new year is off to a great start. I am honored to serve as the President of the Board for 2026. For those of you who don’t know me, I have been an active member of the Club and the Diablo community for over 15 years. My husband Matt, myself, and our two teen daughters are avid Club users, participating in just about every Club program offered. Over the past three years, I have been a member of the Board of Directors, serving as Club Vice-President and Secretary. This experience, along with my involvement in committees over the years, (Membership, House, Racquets chair, Swim Team Board, History & Marketing, Finance, and Long Range Strategic Planning) and tenure as President of the Diablo Property Owners’ Association, provides me with a comprehensive and deep understanding of how the Club and the community operate, which is invaluable in this role.

With the addition of Patrick Daws, new Assistant GM/Food & Beverage Director, (Welcome Patrick!) the Board has the utmost confidence in our top-notch team of management professionals. Led by GM Greg Gonsalves, management owns the day-to-day operations of the Club (not the Board). Advisory committees provide input to management and the Board to improve the member experience. And the Board is shifting focus from operations of the Club toward the horizon, concentrating on governance and strategic future planning.

The Board of Directors held an intensive, one-day workshop in December aligning on the critical areas to ensure the long-term health and prestige of our Club:

∙ Focus on the Business of Membership Fine tune the value proposition membership and categories, develop a steady pipeline of new potential members, create an initiation fee adjustment strategy, define membership policies (e.g. transferring between categories, accommodations for hardship).

∙ Governance Update our bylaws, committee charters, code of conduct, Board policy manual, and plan for Board succession.

∙ Financial Platform Continue the path to break-even operational budget, manage obligatory capital to our CapEx approved budget, plan to retire our debt, budget for maintenance and aspirational improvements.

∙ Strategic Plan Beyond Capital Planning

Define how we continuously improve the Club, on a 5 to 7 year cadence (hospitality industry standard). We must not wait another 20 years to make significant improvements to the Club.

Over the course of the year, we will expand upon all of these topics to help bring more transparency regarding the board's activities.

I am pleased to announce major achievement! The Club has officially cleared the golf sell list and there are currently no memberships available for sale! This is an excellent indicator of the trajectory our Club is on. Less than 12 months ago, the Club had treasury memberships on the balance sheet and members waiting to sell their golf membership. This shift reflects the market's recognition of the significant investment—by both members and staff—made in our Club all the way around.

Spring is around the corner and a good time to show your friends and family the value of a Diablo Country Club membership. We have a wonderful member referral program and Nikki Ericksen, our Membership Director, is always happy to assist you.

I look forward to seeing you around the Club.

FROM THE DIRECTOR OF EVENTS

New Year, New Diablo!

It is hard to believe my first six months at Diablo have already flown by. I want to sincerely thank the membership for being so welcoming and patient as I have learned the traditions and values that make this club special.

I feel that I have truly hit my stride, and I am thrilled to enter 2026 with full ownership of our social calendar. I pride myself on listening to and implementing member feedback, and I have taken your recurring suggestions to heart while planning the year ahead. I hope you are as excited as I am for a year full of laughter and fun within our community.

Enhancements for 2026

Events Committee: As a sub-committee of House, this group is a great way for members to voice opinions on future programming and provide vital feedback on past events. We meet once a month, and if you are interested in joining, please contact me!

Event Essentials: Prior to each event, we are now sending out comprehensive details so that all information is communicated in advance and no detail is missed.

Increased Awareness: I plan to continue increasing awareness through lobby posters, digital communications, and flyers around the club. Additionally, we will ensure members are informed of any large private functions so you can plan your club visits accordingly.

CULINARY UPDATE

First and foremost, I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to all our members who joined us throughout the holiday season. I hope everyone was able to enjoy meaningful time with family and friends. Our culinary team has used this period to recharge, reflect, and strategically prepare for an exciting year ahead.

As we move into the new year, our primary culinary focus is consistency. Consistency is the cornerstone of an exceptional dining experience. Through clearly defined standards, ongoing training, and consistent daily communication, our culinary team is committed to ensuring that every dish, every presentation, and every service interaction meets the high expectations of our membership. This disciplined approach allows us to build trust, deliver reliability, and transform memorable meals into enduring traditions.

We are pleased to introduce Katia’s new dessert menu, which exemplifies creativity, balance, and technical excellence. Our dinner menu will be refreshed during the first week of February, with the lunch menu to follow shortly thereafter. In addition, our themed dining evenings have been thoughtfully re-energized, featuring both refined favorites and new concepts such as Family Night, Italian Supper Night, and Island Night. We will also be offering a specially curated Valentine’s Day menu, accompanied by thoughtfully selected wine pairings designed to enhance the overall dining experience.

Throughout February, we will be highlighting ingredients at their seasonal peak. Leafy greens such as kale, chard, and collards, along with brassicas including Brussels sprouts, broccoli, and cauliflower, will be featured prominently. Root vegetables remain abundant and flavorful during this time of year. Select dishes we anticipate will become member favorites include

the Prosciutto-Wrapped Alaskan Halibut with Apple and Brussels Sprout Hash, Grilled Petit Filet with Tempura Asparagus and Truffle Yukon Gold Potatoes, and our signature Kale Chopped Salad.

FROM THE PASTRY KITCHEN

Katia’s newly released dessert menu offers a refined selection of thoughtfully composed desserts. Highlights include the Apple Bread Pudding with Warm Caramel and the Pear Yuzu Tart with Almond Sponge, both of which have quickly become standout offerings at the Red Horse. For Valentine’s Day, Katia has also created two exclusive desserts: Warm Chocolate Crêpes with Ganache and Chocolate-Covered Strawberries, and a Heart-Themed Red Velvet Cake, designed to complement the occasion.

On behalf of the entire culinary team, we look forward to welcoming you back and sharing these menus with you in the months ahead.

ROB FERGUSON
BOBBIE VALLADON
GARY RYNESS

FROM THE HEAD GOLF PROFESSIONAL

It is hard to start 2026 with the devastating news of the passing of our beloved Director of Instruction, Jim Collins. Jim was an outstanding ambassador of both the game of golf and how it related to the junior golfers of the Bay Area. I believe that what Jim did, by bringing his ideas of what junior golf meant, to Diablo Country Club helped start the change of Diablo Country Club into the family club that it is right now. Come out daily and see kids from 5 to 16 years old swing the golf club, play the course, and know that Jim lives somewhere in every single one of the kids. He will be missed, but he will not be forgotten at Diablo Country Club.

As we get closer to the start of the season, which many view as the week of the Masters, we see the new product for all golf companies hit the shelves. 2026 is no different! We will host demo days for all new products starting in February, so be on the lookout for notices that come out of what companies and times. The Golf Shop is starting to receive demo clubs for our members to try on the range and on the course. Stop in and see us if you would like to hit something new! We will also send out notices for the buy 3 dozen get 1 dozen free ball promotions from each company. Now is the time to get stocked and ready for the upcoming season.

The Golf Operations has 250 new green sand and seed bottles arriving and will begin to give them out on the first tee. Please remember to leave them on hole 18 as you are leaving the course, so we can refill and reuse them daily. Please do not take the bottles or the towels home, as we will make sure there are plenty at the first tee.

Please remember to repair ball marks on our greens. The best practice is to fix yours and at least one more. If you do not know how to fix a ball mark, please see the Golf Staff and we will show you.

Golf is hard. Play well, have fun, and play fast.

COLD, RAINY, AND STILL… WE PLAYED

2026 kicked off with classic winter weather, cold mornings, wet courts, and a whole lot of “are we really doing this?” energy… and yet, tennis and pickleball players STILL showed up, rallied, laughed, and kept the good vibes rolling. That’s what I love about this Club, we don’t cancel the fun, we adjust and keep it moving. Here’s what’s been happening, and what’s coming up next!

The Winter Recap

2.5/3.0 Singles Round Robin

On Wednesday, December 10th, we hosted our 2.5/3.0 Singles Round Robin, and it was awesome to see so many players stepping into singles, competing, and cheering each other on. Great energy, great matches, and even better company.

Huge shoutout to Coach Romana for leading this event and helping players build confidence and strategy in their singles game.

2.5-3.0 Singles Round Robin

RACQUET SPORTS

EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES

Tennis Holiday Luncheon & Toy Drive

We wrapped up the year the right way with our Tennis Holiday Luncheon and Toy Drive, and what a way to finish 2025. We had an amazing turnout, toasted to a great year on court (and an even better one ahead), enjoyed great food, and took a moment to recognize our league players, captains, co-captains, and our Racquet Sports Committee.

And yes… we had a special visit from Santa and his elves. Bingo got competitive (as it always does at Diablo), and it was the perfect mix of holiday spirit and tennis family fun.

Pickleball League, Pickleball 101 & Drop-Ins

Pickleball came out swinging in 2026. Even with the low temps, the winter pickleball league has been strong, players showing up, playing hard, and having a blast under the lights.

Don’t forget our weekly drop-ins:

∙ Tuesdays | 10:00–11:30am (Beginner/Intermediate)

∙ Fridays | 1:00–2:30pm (3.5+)

And remember: we host a Pickleball 101 Clinic every month, check the schedule so you don’t miss it.

Tennis Winter Warm-Up Social

The Tennis Winter Warm-Up Social was a blast, high-energy live ball, lots of laughs, and great mixing across levels. Big thanks to Coach Romana, Coach Ryan and Coach Daniel.

It was one of those mornings where the weather doesn’t matter because the vibes are that good.

PRE-SEASON CLINICS

REGISTRATION

OPENS FEB 1

Sharks Swim Team and Tiger Sharks Registration opens February 1.

PRIVATE LESSONS

We offer private lessons throughout the spring and summer. Each lesson is 20 minutes. The instructors personalize the sessions to the swimmer. These lessons are ideal for swimmers who want to focus on specific skills or techniques.

March 2-26, March 30-April 23

Swim clinics prepare the swimmers on the swim team for the summer season. We offer swim clinics in March and April. The clinics run Monday through Thursday and are a great way forth the swimmers to get into the rhythm of swim practice. They focus on essential skills, drills, and techniques for all strokes and racing components. It's a perfect opportunity to refresh and build confidence before the season begins.

SWIM SEASON DETAILS

Sharks season begins on April 27 and runs through the end of July with our League Championships. Swimmers that qualify to compete can extend their season one week and swim the first weekend in August for the County Championships. Practices are Monday to Friday. Dual meets are Wednesdays and Saturdays. Invitational and Championship meet are scheduled for Saturdays and Sundays.

Swimmer Requirements: In order to join the team; swimmers must be a member of DCC, and be able to swim 1 lap (25 yards) of the pool of any stroke without assistance. Swimmers will need to build on this 1 lap and do repeat laps in the 30 minute practice. Coaches are in the water and on the deck to assist in this process.

Parent Volunteer Requirements: As part of the Sharks team experience, parents are needed to volunteer during the season. Volunteer jobs are simple and flexible, including tasks such as checking in swimmers, timing races, announcing events. For those with more experience in the sport, there are opportunities to serve as starters for meets or perform stroke and turn duties. We will match you with a volunteer role that fits your comfort level.

Now is the perfect time to enjoy your favorite classes and get excited for some fun new evening offerings coming soon. We’ll be rolling out special events including Self-Defense workshops, Sunset Yoga, Pinot & Pilates, and Lit & Fit (glow in the dark weightlifting classes). Be sure to keep an eye on the fitness calendar for dates and sign-ups—you won’t want to miss these energizing additions to our schedule.

The Fitness Center continues to thrive with strong participation in both personal training and group classes. If you’re looking to refresh your routine or take your fitness to the next level, now is the time. Please contact Michele Proctor, Director of Fitness, to be matched with a private trainer or guided toward the classes that best fit your goals. We’re thrilled to welcome the sunshine and warmer weather and look forward to seeing you in the Fitness Center!
