ROSS WALTISBUHL Principal
The story of Cooloola Christian College began with a vision—a conviction that Christian faith should have a meaningful place in the education of children, and that it was possible to provide a learning environment that would prepare students for a life of purpose, grounded in following God.
This vision took a significant step forward on 5 May 1990, when a public meeting was held to share the dream and explore the community’s interest in establishing a Christian school. Just under two years later, on 3 February 1992, that dream became a reality as Cooloola Christian College opened its doors to 57 pioneering students.
Steering Committee registered CCC with the Qld Education Department.
As the College continued to grow, additional classroom buildings were constructed to accommodate the increasing enrolments across both the Primary and Secondary campuses. 2003 1998 1993 1992 1991
First Commencement Service was held 21 January 1992. On 2 February 1992, CCC opened it‘s doors to fifty-seven children and two teachers.
First six months of the school were held at the Assembly of God (AOG) church while the Kidgell Street site was prepared.

Copy Cats of the King was the first of many vibrant school plays including in later years, We Like Sheep, Singsational Servants, Go, Go, Jonah, and Kingdom Castle.
In 1997, preparations began at the College Road site, and in January 1998, the school officially opened its doors there for the first time, marking the beginning of many years of learning and the unfolding story of CCC.
The first cohort of Year 12 students proudly graduated from CCC, marking a significant milestone in the College’s history.
The first biennial team of students and leaders journeyed to the Solomon Islands, where they helped establish a sister school in Marivari.
New purposebuilt classroom for the introduction of Prep.

The 5-acre Nature Space was established as a dedicated area for education and recreation, featuring a mountain biking track and a large dam for canoeing.
The CCC Early Learning Centre was officially opened, offering long day care, an accredited Kindergarten program, and Outside School Hours Care (OSHC).
The state-of-theart STEM Centre was constructed to enhance learning in Science and Digital Technologies, bringing innovation and hands-on discovery to the heart of the College.
Our dedicated CCC Bus Service was also launched, providing families with a safe, reliable, and convenient transport option for their children.

The Year 4 Music Immersion Program was successfully piloted, offering students a rich and engaging introduction to instrumental music.
The Learning Hub was renovated and expanded to better serve the needs of our growing Secondary student community.
A passionate team of students and staff embarked on CCC’s first Outback Ministry trip, taking hope, help, and connection to remote communities.
As College enrolments continued to grow and the need for more learning space became clear, a vision began to take shape.
After much prayer and planning, the dream was realised with the completion of the state-of-theart Primary Village; a vibrant new home for all our Primary students, featuring eight purpose-built classrooms designed to inspire learning, creativity, and connection.

Cooloola Christian College was founded on the shared desire of a group of Christian parents who were passionate about providing Christ-centred education for their children. In 1998, the College moved to its current location: a beautifully landscaped, undulating 10-hectare campus on the Southside of Gympie. With the graduation of its first Year 12 class in 2003, CCC proudly became a fully established Prep to Year 12 school. Today, the College continues to grow and thrive, with a vibrant community of over 540 students.

Welcome to the Early Learning Centre at CCC, where each child is seen as a precious gift from God. We value our partnership with families and are honoured to support parents in their role as a child’s first educator. Grounded in Biblical wisdom and a deep understanding of child development, our play-based learning approach nurtures curiosity, creativity, and a love for discovery.
In a safe and caring environment, our dedicated staff guide children through real-world, hands-on experiences that reflect Christian values. With a focus on nature, sustainability, and imaginative exploration, we provide thoughtfully designed spaces where children can grow, take appropriate risks, and thrive at their own pace.

Excellent Education: At CCC’s Early Learning Centre, we aim to create a caring, play-based environment where every child feels safe, valued, and inspired to learn. Our curriculum blends rich experiences with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines (QKLG) to support each child’s holistic development through play-based learning education.

Preparing Students: Children enjoy rich, regular programs that spark curiosity and confidence. Bush Kindy explores God’s creation, weekly Music lessons build musical skills, and incursions to the big school foster familiarity. Our Ready, Set, Prep transition program gently supports children as they prepare for a confident and smooth start to Prep.

Christian Enviornment: We celebrate each child as wonderfully created by God. Through Christian teaching and an inclusive community, we nurture faith, character, belonging, and each child’s unique potential.
Our caring and committed staff provide quality Christian education from Prep to Year 6. Our vibrant Primary Village offers academic, sporting, and enrichment opportunities, while smaller class sizes allow teachers to truly know their students. With excellent resources and supportive educators, every child is encouraged and nurtured on their unique learning journey.

Inquiry Learning: In our Early Years classrooms (Prep to Year 3), we emphasise an inquiry learning approach believing in equipping students for life rather than just knowledge for now. Through an inquiry-based approach in Science, Technology and Humanities, children engage with concepts through hands-on learning, fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and a deeper understanding of the world around them.

Literacy & Numeracy Focus: In our Primary classrooms, teachers maintain a strong focus on literacy and numeracy, recogniing these foundational skills as essential for academic success and critical thinking, providing students with the tools they need to excel in all areas of learning.
Specialist Lessons: All Primary students have the opportunity to engage in specialist lessons in Creative Arts, Health and Physical Education, and Languages. These programs broaden students‘ experiences, fostering creativity, physical wellbeing.

Year 4 Immersion Music Program: All Year 4 students are enrolled in the Immersion Music Program, providing the opportunity to learn an instrument and participating in a band, fostering growth in self-confidence, self-discipline, teamwork, and academic ability.

Bridging the Gap - Year 6 into 7 Transition: Year 6 is a pivotal year at CCC, that marks the final stage of Primary school and a key moment in preparing students for the transition to Year 7. In addition to their main classroom teacher, Year 6 students benefit from specialist lessons in Science, Maths, Humanities, and Technology taught by experienced teachers in the Upper Primary space. This exposure helps students develop independence, adaptability, and a deeper understanding of various subjects, that equips them with the tools they need for success in Secondary school and beyond.

Our middle school years (Years 7-10) are a pivotal time where students embark on a journey of discovery, growth, and academic exploration. With a firm foundation in Christian values, we provide a nurturing environment that fosters both academic excellence and personal development.

Opportunities for growth & exploration: Middle school students at CCC have access to a wide range of opportunities designed to ignite their passions and develop their talents. From academic pursuits to extracurricular activities, students can choose from a diverse array of subjects and electives that cater to their individual interests and aspirations.
Broadening learning experiences (Years 7 & 8): In Years 7 and 8, students engage in a rich and varied curriculum that includes six core subjects: English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, Health & Physical Education, and Spanish. In addition to these, students also participate in three different electives each year, allowing them to experience a broad range of subjects and discover new areas of interest.

Deeper exploration (Years 9 & 10): As students move into Years 9 and 10, they continue with five core subjects: English, Mathematics, Science, Health & Physical Education, and History and are given greater choice and flexibility through the selection of three electives. These electives allow students to dive deeper into areas they enjoy or are considering for future pathways and provides valuable opportunities for skill development and personal growth.
Pastoral Care & Biblical Studies: Pastoral Care is woven into daily school life with staff committed to supporting students’ wellbeing, character development, and spiritual growth. Biblical Studies is a core subject across all middle school year levels that gives students the opportunity to explore their faith, ask meaningful questions, and understand how God’s Word applies to everyday life.
In Year 9, students also take part in The RITE Journey; a unique program designed to guide them through the transition from childhood to adulthood. Through weekly sessions, discussions, and intentional challenges, students reflect on identity, responsibility, and personal growth in a supportive, values-based environment.

As students move from the middle years into the Senior Phase at Cooloola Christian College, they embark on a journey that offers diverse opportunities tailored to their individual aspirations and strengths. This pivotal stage is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and experiences necessary for success beyond school, whether that be in further education, vocational pursuits, or the workforce.

Pathways & Senior Subjects:
In the Senior Phase, students have the flexibility to choose from a broad range of subjects that align with their interests and career goals. The curriculum is structured to support various pathways, including:

Words by Jasmine Bray
Returning to Cooloola Christian College as a Primary teacher has been an incredibly nostalgic and fulfilling journey for me. My roots at CCC stretch back to Preschool, where I began my educational journey in 2003. As a student, CCC was more than just a school; it was a supportive community where teachers invested not only in our education but also in our personal growth. They exemplified kindess and a genuine desire for each student to succeed, instilling in us strong Christian values that shaped our understanding of God’s Word and our purpose on earth.
One of the most impactful experiences during my time as a student was a ministry trip to the Solomon Islands in 2014. There, surrounded by God’s creation and immersed in service, I discovered firsthand the transformative power of sharing God’s love. The Christlike spirit of the people we met left an indelible mark on my faith journey.
Having both my brothers, Joshua and Jacob, also attend CCC reinforced our family’s connection to this community. Joshua graduated in 2018, and Jacob followed suit in 2022. The bonds formed here are not only familial but also extend to colleagues who have become friends. It’s particularly meaningful to now collaborate with teachers who once taught me.
After graduating from the University of the Sunshine Coast in 2021, where my passion for teaching blossomed during early experiences at Gympie South, I returned to CCC with a clear mission. I wanted to ignite a love for learning in students who might not initially find joy in school, guiding them to those “aha” moments and helping them connect their lessons to the wider world. Becoming a teacher here feels like coming full circle, embracing a new role where I can contribute to the same nurturing environment that shaped me.
The growth I’ve witnessed in CCC since my student days is remarkable. Knowing that current students have access to an enriched educational experience, rooted in the same values that guided me, fills me with pride. Returning as a teacher has allowed me to give back to the community that played a pivotal role in my upbringing. It’s both familiar and refreshing, reaffirming my commitment to uphold CCC’s legacy of excellence and compassion.
In essence, CCC isn’t just a school to me; it’s a testament to the transformative power of education infused with Christian values. I am priviledged to continue my journey here as a teacher, inspired by the same principles that once inspired me as a student.
