Christian Service-Learning connects and integrates course curriculum, service experiences, and Catholic Social Teachings between the classroom and community. The goal of the ServiceLearning curriculum is for students to learn academic concepts, contents, and skills while also working with those in need or indirectly work for social change. Christian Service-Learning at CBHS aims to promotein class discussion aswell asincorporate the 5 LasallianCore Principles (Concern for the Poor and Social Justice, Inclusive Community, Respect for all Persons, Quality Education,andFaithinthePresenceofGod)inameaningfulway.AnadditionalgoalofServiceLearningisto applycritical thinkingandproblem-solvingskillstobettercomprehendrealworld issues.

TheframeworkforthisChristianServiceCurriculumisasfollows:

The Freshman curriculum includes learning about food insecurity as a national problem and understanding it in the context of our location in Oak Park. All freshmen will also spend one morningattheCathedraloftheBlessedSacramentservingBrownBagLunchesforthoseinneed. Thisprojectwillculminatewiththefreshmanclassspearheadingacannedfooddriveinthemonth ofNovembertobenefitourneighborsintheOakParkcommunity.

The Sophomore year curriculum will focus on the plight of refugees in the Sacramento area. Working with World Relief, a non-profit agency that helps resettle refugees throughout the country,andparticularlyinSacramento,sophomoreswillleadaninformationalcampaigntoraise awareness. Additionally, they will spearhead a collection of items to compile Welcome Kits for newlyarrivedrefugeesandwillhaveopportunitiestovolunteerintheWorldReliefwarehouse.

TheJunioryearcurriculumwillcenterarounddiscussionsthatemergeaftertheirreadingofThere, TherebyTommyOrange.There,Thereisanovelthatexploresthemesofthemodern-day,urban NativeAmericanexperience.Juniorswillthenworktoprovideprogrammingaboutsocialjustice issues surrounding the Native American experience in the 21st century for students at a nearby elementaryschoolinOakPark.

Beginninginthe2025-2026schoolyear,seniorswillcompleteacapstoneservice-learningproject calledtheLeavetoServe project.Studentswillchooseasocialjusticeissuethatalignswiththeir passions,andresearchandworkwithalocalnon-profitorganizationworkingtoaddressthatissue.

RequirementsoftheScholarPathProgram

Students must qualify for the program with Freshman year classes. Freshmenwhosuccessfully completetherequiredfreshmenyearcurriculumand1)earnagradepointaverageof3.7or betterthesecondsemesterand2)haveearnedacumulativeGPAfortheyearof3.7orbetterand 3)exhibitpersonalintegrityareinvitedtobecome ScholarsatthebeginningoftheSophomore year. TomaintainScholarstatus,studentsmustatalltimesexhibitpersonalintegrityandearna GPAofatleast3.85eachsemester ofSophomore,JuniorandSenioryear,andcontinueonthe ScholarPathProgramCurriculum:

StudentsintheEngineeringProgramcompleteaminimumof6semestersofEngineeringcourses. Courses can be completed in any order, as long as the Mathematics course prerequisites are met uponenrollmentineachcourse.Studentswhosuccessfullycompletetheprogramarerecognized atgraduationwiththeSt.PatrickEngineeringPinandmentionedintheprogram.
