CHRISTIAN BROTHERS HIGH SCHOOL

FALCON FAMILY NEWS

A MESSAGE FROM OUR DIRECTOR OF LASALLIAN STUDENT LIFE

Dear Families:

A common phrase is used in our community: “CB is the place to be.” To be convinced of that statement, all one must do is drop into the Lasallian Student Life Office The shadow day guests who visit or the teacher who uses our space to enjoy a cup of coffee while preparing for the next class will always find students in meaningful work – prepping for the next retreat, service project, or the upcoming dance Students want to be in the department and make their mark on our campus Why is that?

Ryan Ancog ‘26 gives us a hint at the answer. At the most recent overnight junior retreat, he captivated his audience with his thoughts about what becoming a Senior Retreat Leadership Team member has meant to him. Before attending Christian Brothers High School, Ryan saw service to the community as an achievement to be reached on graduation day or merely a habit to be formed. As a senior on the retreat team, a deeper connection was made. He learned that service is a matter of the heart. To serve is to love and love is something that comes from being around others who share a passion for the mission. Shared passion paves the encounter with Jesus who lives in all our hearts.

Students who serve our school community through the Lasallian Student Life Office want to collaborate with us They feel this deep sense of belonging through our department’s welcome, guiding them through basic life skills, and listening with compassion as they seek wisdom navigating their lives This is the purpose of the LSLO We strive to create a meaningful high school experience for all students at Christian Brothers High School We invite all students to continue this journey by participating in a Kairos, attending one of our VEN-A-VER service trips, or volunteering at one of the many service opportunities available to students.

Each day, it is a privilege and a blessing to see students live out our school motto, “Enter to Learn, Leave to Serve”. These moments are what make high school memorable and CB the place to be.

Live Jesus in our hearts – forever!

Kairos 101 took place on October 21-24 at Alliance Redwoods in Occidental, CA. Kairos is a Greek word (καιρός) referring to time that cannot be measured chronologically. This is known as God’s time. The Kairos experience gives students the time and opportunity to examine, develop, and deepen their relationship with God, themselves, their family, and their friends. It is the culmination of the four-year retreat experience at Christian Brothers

Christian Brothers Students Making an Impact at Local Elementary School!

Over 100 Christian Brothers students have started a new program to support literacy goals at Oak Ridge Elementary School this year Every day after school, a group of CBHS students walk to the elementary school, and serve as tutors and reading buddies for one hour The early success of the program is evident in the smiles on the younger students’ faces when their reading buddies arrive, and further demonstrated by the enthusiasm of the students to attend the “Reading Power Hour” and read to their high school buddy!

Students interested in learning more or participating should reach out to Mrs Hanshew The program isn’t accepting new tutors this semester, but will be open to new students again beginning in January.

Many Christian Brothers students also spent their Halloween afternoon at Oak Ridge bringing smiles to the faces of Oak Ridge students and their younger siblings. The “Hall”-oween event was a safe trick-or-treating event through the halls of the school for students and their siblings. CB students hosted tables to offer face painting, pumpkin decorating, Halloween bowling, and more!
