At 17, I followed my passion for hairdressing and enrolled part-time at Bedford College. Hair had always fascinated me from styling my own to experimenting on friends and family. Unfortunately, personal challenges meant I had to step away, beginning years of jobs that never fulfilled me. Hairdressing remained only a hobby, but my dream never faded.
At 39, I decided to return to education and enrolled in an adult part-time Hairdressing Level 2 course at Brooks, Bedford College. With more life experience and determination, I completed both Level 2 and Level 3, finally gaining the confidence and skills to pursue my dream career. At 41, I am proud to be a qualified stylist, preparing to launch my own business while exploring exciting new opportunities.
During my studies, the support of my tutors was invaluable. They werenāt just teachers; they were mentors who encouraged me through challenges and reminded me that learning has no age limit.
One of my proudest moments was reaching the finals of the Concept Hair Learner of the Year 2025 competition in the textured hair category. Under pressure, I created a braided style live in 40 minutes a true personal victory that proved what I was capable of.
That experience inspired me to apply for other opportunities, including the SNAP! Hair Award at Salon International and a Calligraphy Cuts Fellowship scholarship. Alongside these achievements, I am studying a Business Start-Up course to build strong foundations for my career.
To anyone considering hairdressing whether straight from school or later in life, I say go for it. The journey may be challenging, but the rewards are worth it.
āItās never too late to chase your dreams, passion and persistence can turn them into reality.ā
