UNITED IS THE WAY

For a century, Capital Area United Way has connected resources, volunteers, and the generosity of our neighbors to meet the greatest needs in our 10-parish service region. As we launch our refreshed brand, we invite you to join us in shaping the next century of impact. United Is The Way we create lasting generational change.

STRONGER NEIGHBORHOODS. BRIGHTER FUTURES.

At Window World of Baton Rouge, we believe a home is more than walls and windows, it’s where community begins. That’s why we proudly support local nonprofits and life-changing initiatives that help families thrive.

We are dedicated to building stronger communities, uplifting local causes, and bringing light and hope into the lives of families we serve.

Since 2020, Window World has been proud to partner with Son of a Saint, helping to expand opportunities for young men through mentorship, education, and career development.

The Power of Generosity: Building a Brighter Future

TRUE IMPACT BEGINS with generosity. When we choose to give—our time, our talent, our resources, or simply our attention—we set in motion a ripple effect that reaches far beyond what we can see. Every act of generosity is more than a transaction; it’s a seed planted in someone else’s life that has the power to grow into hope, opportunity, and lasting change.

As you turn the pages of this year’s Giving Guide, you’ll discover remarkable organizations whose missions are transforming lives across our community. Their stories remind us that generosity is not reserved for the wealthy or the powerful—it is available to each of us, every day, in countless ways. Whether through volunteering, donating, or spreading the word, your generosity can make a real difference. I encourage you to explore these nonprofits and consider how you can be part of their vital work.

Finally, a heartfelt thank you to our generous sponsors—Capital Area United Way, EBRP Library, Schmolke Law Firm and Investar—whose support makes this guide possible. Together, let’s embrace the spirit of generosity and continue building a stronger, more compassionate Capital Region.

Sincerely,

inRegister magazine is proud to serve as a sponsor for the National Philanthropy Celebration, which takes place Tuesday, Nov. 11 at noon at the Crowne Plaza. Several businesses and individuals will be honored by the GBR Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. For more information, visit the website at http://afpbatonrouge.afpglobal.org

Leading the Way

For 100 years, Capital Area United Way (CAUW) has worked to improve lives and strengthen our 10-parish region by mobilizing the caring power of volunteers, donors, and community partners so that all can thrive. As we celebrate this centennial milestone, we honor our legacy of resilience and recommit ourselves to building a brighter future for generations to come.

At CAUW, we know real change happens when we show up for one another. Through your support, we are creating generational change in four key Impact Areas: Community Resiliency, Youth Opportunity, Financial Security, and Healthy Living. These focus areas, rooted in education access, economic mobility, health, and basic needs, are the essential building blocks for a thriving life.

Our North Star remains the ALICE population—Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. ALICE represents the hardworking individuals and families who make up more than half of Louisiana’s population yet struggle to make ends meet and remain one emergency away from financial crisis. At United Way, we are working to close gaps, open doors, and connect people to critical resources to ensure every person in our community has the opportunity to thrive.

Whether you give your time, lend your voice, or gift a donation, you are making a difference in people’s lives every day. Together, we can do more—United Is The Way.

Building Relationships

Schmolke Law Firm is a Baton Rouge based personal injury law firm serving all of Louisiana. Born and raised in Baton Rouge, Brandt Schmolke, the firm’s owner and founder, has been practicing law for 20 years. His practice has been dedicated to defending the rights of individuals and families who have been injured or lost loved ones due to someone else’s negligence.

Brandt has successfully represented thousands of injured clients in a wide variety of matters ranging from automobile and trucking accidents to traumatic brain injury and wrongful death cases. Through hard work and dedication, Brandt has earned recognition as one of the National Trial Lawyers Top 100 as well as membership in the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum.

At Schmolke Law Firm, the attorney-client relationship is at the foundation of every case the firm handles. It is important to Brandt for his clients to know they are not just a number. And although the case matters, the client matters more. Therefore, Brandt takes the time to get to know and build relationships with everyone he represents. Brandt prides himself on being approachable, accessible, and attentive, which provides the client with a more personal experience.

Schmolke Law Firm feels incredibly blessed by all the support they have received, but more significantly is their opportunity to bless others. Giving back is something Schmolke Law Firm feels very strongly about, and it is important to them to give back to the community whenever possible.

Dedicated to making an impact

In 2006, John D’Angelo recognized a need for a true community bank where customers are not just a transaction, but a meaningful part of the institution. With a desire to offer exceptional financial services while placing both customers and employees at the heart of the organization, Investar Bank was created.

Founded on the principle of relationship-driven service, Investar is dedicated to making an impact, not only on its loyal customers but also on the community. The bank invests time and resources into supporting local markets, believing stronger communities lead to brighter futures for all. Employees regularly volunteer at food banks, teach financial literacy in schools, mentor youth, and assemble care packages for those in need. In addition to hands-on service, Investar supports local healthcare providers, educational institutions, charities, and other philanthropic organizations with generous financial contributions. At its core, Investar is committed to the well-being and empowerment of the communities it serves.

“As we look to the future, we remain dedicated to supporting the communities around us. We will continue to donate our time and efforts to various causes and offer exceptional financial services to individuals and businesses throughout our footprint,” D’Angelo says.

HOW WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE

LIBRARIES REMAIN AN ESSENTIAL POINT OF ACCESS TO CITIZENS THROUGHOUT THE COMMUNITY. Free online tools and resources in the Digital Library have proven their value, especially those geared at upskilling and complementing education at home. The Library continues to offer important services such as reference assistance, access to computers and Wi-Fi, and even circulating Hotspots. The Library has also expanded live programming to encompass in-person, online and hybrid delivery, including One Book One Community, the Summer Reading Challenge, the Mid City Micro-Con, and the Baton Rouge Maker Faire.

The Library provides a variety of resources for nonprofit organizations at the Grants Center. Candid Foundation Directory Online and iWave, only available at the River Center Branch Library, give you access to hard-to-find funders from all over the globe, plus the most effective tools to organize and manage your foundation fundraising process. Our Grants Librarian can assist you with your search, whether you are a grantseeker, grant-maker, or just curious about the grants process.

OUR WISH LIST

Adult volunteers can scan items for the Digital Archive, “shelf read” and look for missing books, help with the Summer Reading Challenge, coach adult new readers, assist with Maker Spaces and Seed Libraries, and more.

Teen volunteers who are doing community service for school or other organizations will find many other ways to help at the East Baton Rouge Parish Library.

Use your library’s resources, services, and programs! Tell your friends!

HOW WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE

SUITING 101 was established in 2020 to help at-risk youth and reentry citizens walk boldly into opportunity from the inside out through the power of “Dressing for Success.” We recognize that first impressions are made in the first 7 seconds of meeting someone, and we believe appearance is essential for success … so we host seminars and workshops that are focused on developing a vision for a prosperous future.

Additionally, we partner with other organizations and nonprofits in the community to bring about change in our society. For example, we sponsor an annual “gently used suit drive” in the community. Suiting 101 partners with Capital Area Prisoner ReEntry (CAPRI) through a Second Chance Tuesday program. We also partner with Fathers on a Mission and Catholic Charities, conducting workshops and donating gently used suits.

OUR WISH LIST

Be a corporate sponsor of our fundraisers. Participate in our annual giving campaign. Make a donation during 225 Gives.

Support our Gently Used Suit Drive. Volunteer for special events.

We are a 501-C non-profit organization working with other community organizations providing career and college mentoring programs for high school students. Students must complete an enrichment program comprised of addressing college transition, leadership, career exploration, and developing a personal vision for a successful future. When the seniors graduate, they are equipped with a complete professional ensemble — suit, shirt, necktie, shoes and accessories.

Suiting 101 also works with prison reform by donating gently used suits to former inmates. Suiting 101 host a gently used suit drive every April for this event.

OBJECTIVES

· To build self-confidence and an awareness of who you are and who you can become.

· Educate students on proper dressing – the differences between various dress attires.

· Developing a personal vision for a successful future.

HOW WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Your vital support allows our not-for-profit hospital to continue providing outstanding service and high-quality healthcare.

ARTS IN MEDICINE: By integrating art and music into the hospital environment, BRG provides emotional and mental support to patients, their families, and staff. Music therapists, artists-in-residence, volunteers, and community partners collaborate to create a soothing atmosphere that promotes recovery and well-being. Through personalized creative experiences, BRG aims to uplift spirits, reduce stress, and enhance the healing process.

CAMP CATAHOULA: BRG’s weeklong summer camp for pediatric burn survivors is a life-changing program that gives these young campers the chance to heal, grow, and connect with peers who understand their journey. By combining traditional camp activities with emotional support and mentorship, it fosters resilience, confidence, and a sense of belonging that these children carry with them long after camp ends.

BARRIERS TO CARE: With our BRG Care on the Go mobile health unit, which provides primary, urgent care, and health screenings to neighborhoods across North Baton Rouge, we can meet patients where they are to deliver the services they need. We also support our hospital’s CARE Initiative, which helps patients overcome social and economic barriers such as transportation, food insecurity, and access to durable medical equipment upon discharge. Through both of these donor funded programs, we can help ensure patients not only receive care close to home, but the support they need for ongoing and long-term well-being.

HOW WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE

AS SHE ENTERED HER 50s, Kathy Coleman found herself in an unusual and unexpected situation … raising her own grandchildren. She was fortunate to connect with a group called Grandparents Raising Grandchildren (GRG), and in 2019, was named president of the group. Today, GRG is a nonprofit that provides legal, health, behavioral, adoption, and support resources to caregivers with the help of volunteers, lawyers, and counselors.

A growing number of grandparents are taking on the parenting role for their grandchildren. It’s a huge sacrifice which often means foregoing their independence and can create new stressors in their lifestyle. GRG is there to offer expert advice and share opportunities, support and hope for these new “grand-families.”

“My goal now is to meet people where they are,” says Kathy. “We cater to grandparents, but we’re here to help anyone raising a child to whom they are biologically related. They need to know they are not alone.”

GRG holds monthly local and statewide support groups, quarterly legal workshops, food distributions in certain areas, resources to families and many other forms of assistance.

From operations to campus improvements, our Thrive Fund powers life-changing opportunities—because every student, every family, every year, deserves the chance to THRIVE.

OUR PROGRAMS

As a public boarding school, Thrive Academy integrates both school and home to holistically support students’ needs. Our programs prioritize mental health, career readiness, and transformative life experiences.

THRIVE WITHIN

Building resilience and confidence through wellness, life-skills, and personal growth.

THRIVE BEYOND

Expanding horizons with travel, service, and cultural experiences beyond Baton Rouge.

THRIVE NEXT DAY

Preparing students for graduation, college, careers, and lifelong success

THEIR FUTURE

Everything we do points to them. Our students and their stories are the driving force behind every program and vision. We work hard to ensure every student on our campus leaves with a degree in hand and a future full of open doors and new opportunities.

“Right here in Baton Rouge, Thrive Academy is proving that when students have the support they need, they don’t just learn. They show us what’s possible. Thrive Foundation powers that mission by investing in the potential that’s already alive in every student, and it’s paying off.”

HOW WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE

SINCE 1983, Alzheimer’s Services has been the local resource for those impacted by Alzheimer’s in the Greater Baton Rouge area. Through educational events, support groups, and social events, we provide an experienced hand to hold and guidance to navigate the Alzheimer’s journey. We also provide respite relief for caregivers through Charlie’s Place Activity and Respite Centers in Baton Rouge, Gonzales, and Baker, and the Respite Reimbursement Program, providing funds for in-home respite. Giving caregivers a much-needed break provides the opportunity to recharge and continue caregiving at their best, reducing stress and improving quality of life for all involved.

OUR WISH LIST

Make a donation to help us deliver our programs and services. (As an independent 5013c, not affiliated with a national organization, we rely on general donations.)

Participate in the Walk to Remember, the largest local Alzheimer’s awareness/fundraising event, and Memories in the Making Luncheon, both giving opportunities.

Volunteer at our events, support groups, social activities, and Charlie’s Place Respite Centers.

Every teenager deserves to know they are seen, valued, and loved.

That’s the heartbeat of Young Life Baton Rouge—a movement of caring adults and college leaders who step into the lives of kids right where they are. From the sidelines of a football game to afternoons at local schools, Young Life leaders are committed to building authentic friendships that open doors to conversations about life and faith.

Young Life isn’t a program to attend—it’s a relationship to experience. Leaders laugh with kids, listen to their stories, and walk alongside them where they are, regardless of their response. This year, Baton Rouge Young Life is thriving with active ministries in Capernaum (for teens with disabilities), Thrive Academy, The Dunham School, and LSU Young Life College, with more schools and neighborhoods on the horizon.

At the heart of our mission is a simple hope: to introduce adolescents to Jesus Christ and help them grow in their faith. Every trip, gathering, and conversation is fueled by that vision—and by the generosity of people across Baton Rouge who believe in investing in the next generation.

Young Life Baton Rouge is growing, but we can’t do it alone. We invite you to be part of this story—whether by volunteering, praying, or giving. Together, we can ensure that every teenager in Baton Rouge has the chance to hear the Good News of Jesus in the context of genuine friendship from an adult who cares for them.

HOW WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE

THE BRIDGE CENTER FOR HOPE, an independent nonprofit, is designed to be a short-term crisis stabilization center to treat individuals 18 years or older who are experiencing a mental health crisis and/or substance use challenge and who reside in East Baton Rouge Parish.

We offer an array of crisis stabilization and crisis care services that provide short-term intervention and care for those experiencing a behavioral health crisis.

Our range of crisis stabilization and crisis care services can provide help when people need it most. The Bridge Center partners with Recovery Innovations to operate the facility utilizing the “Crisis Now” model, an evidence-based, nationally endorsed approach to crisis care that helps prevent suicides, provides immediate help for those in distress, reduces the cost of care, and reduces the strain on emergency rooms, prisons, and law enforcement.

Mental health is a crucial part of overall well-being, yet it has long been clouded by stigma and misunderstanding. Today, open conversations are replacing silence, and more people are receiving the support they need—driven by the strength of community involvement. In East Baton Rouge Parish, mental health issues affect individuals, families, and entire neighborhoods. Many struggle with anxiety, depression, substance use disorders, and severe mental illnesses, often worsened by economic hardship, housing instability, and trauma. Reducing the stigma around mental health and substance use involves raising awareness, which is why the Bridge Center partners with numerous community resources to expand these efforts by hosting outreach events annually.

The Bridge Center for Hope is East Baton Rouge Parish’s 24/7 mental health and substance-use crisis center—like an emergency room for behavioral health but not a hospital ER—offering compassionate care when needed to individuals 18 years and older. No referral is needed; no one is turned away. Whether you walk in on your own, escorted by a loved one, or brought by a first responder, you’ll receive the care you need from the moment you arrive.

Our goal is to offer continuous support by linking individuals to resources after discharge, helping them succeed in their recovery. To the residents of East Baton Rouge Parish: thank you for trusting us during your most vulnerable times. Together, we are building a community where mental health is understood, support is accessible, and hope is within reach.

At the Pregnancy Problem Center, we believe that God is the author of life and that abortion is never the answer. We are dedicated to encouraging a culture of life by giving compassionate, practical assistance to those who have experienced an unplanned or crisis pregnancy.

WHO WE ARE

Family Life Federation/ Pregnancy Problem Center was founded in 1975 by John Baker, our founding board member. At that time this was the only organization in Baton Rouge to work to prevent abortion and to help women in crisis pregnancy situations. For over 44 years PPC has served thousands of women experiencing unplanned, crisis pregnancies.

OUR WORK IN THE COMMUNITY

The Pregnancy Problem Center has served the greater Baton Rouge community with compassion and dedication for 44 years. We are grateful for the continued generosity of area churches, organizations, and private donors that provide sustaining support for the PPC’s education, outreach and lay counseling programs. We positively impact women and children in our community for generations to come.

YOUTH OASIS is an oasis of hope and dignity for young people navigating the trauma of homelessness and family separation Our organization transforms crisis into opportunity by centering the inherent strength and resilience of youth ages 11-25 who have experienced abandonment, family conflict, or housing instability. Our Disconnection Prevention Program embodies a youthcentered approach, providing food and clothing, while also fostering connection, healing, and self-determination through counseling, healthcare advocacy, and support services. We recognize that each young person carries wisdom from their lived experiences, particularly our LGBTQ+ youth who face additional barriers. By offering at least a year of wraparound support, we honor the journey toward healing as a collective process, not an individual struggle. We cultivate a community where youths move from surviving to thriv-ing, transforming their personal liberation into collective power that strengthens our entire community. Together, we’re building a future where every young person knows their worth and claims their rightful place as resilient, successful citizens.

THE AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION is committed to driving equitable health impact in Louisiana through five key priority areas: women’s health, community need, tobacco and vaping, patients and healthy living. Collaborating with local organizations, sponsors, businesses, and community partners, we’ve expanded our impact, including creating avenues for greater access to care, healthy food access and education, building a network of first responders through CPR kits in schools, blood pressure screenings and education, and tobacco and e-cigarette education and prevention. Health Hearts and Haircuts

Thanks to local sponsor Baton Rouge Clinic AMC, we launched a self-monitoring blood pressure station at Best Look Barber Shop. The shop now offers validated cuffs, educational materials, and referrals to local health centers, serving around 400 clients monthly. This initiative helps foster healthier habits and improve access to essential health resources in the community.

Nation of Lifesavers

For 38+ years, Our Lady of the Lake Health has been a key local sponsor, driving community impact through various mission-focused efforts. Last year, we collaborated to promote CPR and AED education and building a Nation of Lifesavers via social media campaigns and community events. We appreciate their long-term support!

Community Health Hub

Along with local sponsor Healthy Blue, we launched a new community health hub at the Alsen St. Irma Lee Community Village. It offers residents access to blood pressure monitoring tools, CPR and First Aid training, an on-site AED, and food pantry resources with nutrition education.

Reducing Stroke Risk in Women

Stroke Risk in Women

Our Live Fierce Capital Area sponsor, Cardio Health Solutions, signed on with us for a 3 year committment to better the healh of our community. Our first campaign focused on stroke prevention in women, which through a mix of social, traditional and earned media, garnered more than 1 million impressions across Baton Rouge.

HOPE Ministries of Baton Rouge hopeminbr

Hunger doesn’t just take away meals, it takes away peace of mind. At HOPE Ministries of Baton Rouge, we believe no one should have to choose between paying rent and feeding their family. That’s why we operate the Client Choice Food Pantry (CCFP), one of the largest and most innovative food pantries in the region.

Unlike traditional pantries, where pre-packed boxes are handed out, HOPE’s pantry is built on dignity and choice. Families shop in a grocery store–like setting, selecting the items that best fit their household’s needs, dietary restrictions, and cultural preferences. This approach reduces food waste and empowers clients to make decisions for their families just like anyone else would at the supermarket.

The Pantry Provides:

• Nutritious groceries to thousands of families each year.

• Fresh produce, meats, and shelf-stable goods to promote healthier living.

• Household and personal care essentials often not available at other pantries.

• Supportive services that connect families to long-term solutions through The Way to Work program.

By meeting immediate needs today, the pantry creates stability, giving families the breathing room they need to take their next step toward self-sufficiency.

Every bag of groceries is more than food. It’s HOPE.

The LSU Foundation Board of Directors has named Krista Raney to the role of president and CEO of the LSU Foundation effective July 1, 2026. Raney will succeed Robert M. Stuart Jr., who has served in the role since January 1, 2020.

Over the course of the next several months, the LSU Foundation Board of Directors, Stuart and Raney will work closely together to ensure a seamless leadership transition for the LSU Foundation and continuity for LSU Real Estate & Facilities Foundation projects. Beginning July 1, 2026, Stuart will continue his role as president and CEO of LSU REFF in a part-time capacity.

During Stuart’s tenure as president and CEO, among other accomplishments, the LSU Foundation has surpassed the $1.5 billion Fierce for the Future Campaign goal three years early (in 2022), secured multiple historic gifts in support of academics, and met the fundraising goal for the Our Lady of the Lake Health Interdisciplinary Science Building, currently under construction.

Raney currently serves as executive vice president of development for the LSU Foundation. Throughout her 15-year tenure, she has consistently earned roles of progressive scope and responsibility; cultivated relationships with many of LSU’s most generous donors; and secured several of the university’s largest gifts ever received in support of scholarships, research, capital projects and endowed funds. For the fiscal year ending June 30, the LSU Foundation hit a new record for cash given to the LSU Foundation in a single year.

“I look forward to the opportunity to lead the LSU Foundation team in alignment with LSU’s academic priorities and to continue delivering elite results for my alma mater.”

Raney earned a bachelor’s degree and an MBA from LSU and is a Certified Fund Raising Executive through the Association of Fundraising Professionals. She was honored as one of the top Forty Under 40 in Baton Rouge in 2017, was the Baton Rouge chapter of American Fundraising Professionals’ 2022 Outstanding Professional Fundraiser and was named to the Business Report’s 2023 Influential Women in Business. She serves on the boards of the South Louisiana Affiliate of Teach for America and Baton Rouge Area Chamber.
