Wereachthistimeoftheyearwithenthusiasmasthis annualprojectrollsaround.Hawke’sBayToday,as partoftheNewZealandHeraldnetwork,supportsand encouragesschoolsinthisregiontotakeadvantageof thisopportunitytocelebratetheirachievementsandtake stockofthemanygoalsreachedbystudentsandstaff throughouttheacademicyear.
Thispublicationhelpsourschoolstelltheir storiesandgivesreaderstheopportunity tolearnaboutthewidercommunity,the exceptionalchildren,andtheirteachers, whorepresentourfuture.Afterthe disruptionsweallfacedwhatwithCovid andthenCycloneGabrielleit’sgoodtosee thatlifeislessstressfulandstudentsare moresettledwhichencourageslearning. Schoolthesedaysismuchmorethan reading,writingandmathematics.
Curriculumsaredesignedtoencourage excellence,innovation,inquiryand curiosityalongwithdiversity,equityand integrity.Instillingsuchvaluesand,at thesametime,havingchildrenlearnto expressthemselves,developempathyand makeethicaldecisions,isabigask.Key competenciesemphasisedincludethinking andproblemsolving,literacyandnumeracy, managingselfandrelatingtoothers, participatingandcontributingandusing technology.Ultimatelychildrenarelearning todevelopthecompetenciestheywillneed
forstudy,workandlifelonglearningsothey willgoontorealisetheirfullpotential. Outdoorlearningisalargepartofthe completelearningexperiencewhetherat thebeach,atcamp,crosscountryoronthe ocean.Activeexplorationisencouraged andthere’splentyoffunincorporated intothecurriculum,makingitmuchmore attractiveforyoungpeopletoaccept. Activitiesthesedaysincludecanoepolo, mathletics,triathlon,hiphop,camps,martial artsandarangeoflearninginaction activities.Interactivetechnologycontinues tosupportlearningandwithchildren happilyacceptingtechnologyasalearning resourceitopensupevengreateravenues forstructuredlearningandfun. There’salsoagreatfocusondeveloping meaningful,respectfulandcaring relationshipsandtakingresponsibilityfor self.Communicationskills,oncelargely ignored,arepartandparcelofachild’s lifefromthetimetheystartearlychildhood educationandthroughouttheirschoollife.

EbbettParkSchoolhas hadawonderful2025.
Westartedtheyearwithour‘Getting Connected’Dayswherewhānua andtamarikihaveoneononetime withtheir2026classroomteacher. Thesemeetingssetthescenefor theyearandinformtheschoolof thewhānaugoalsfortheirtamariki. This,asalways,isfollowedupbyour ‘whānau’day.
Thisyearweintroducedanew award,TāTumuakiTūī.Eachweek wecelebrateoneofourākonga whoareconsistentlyshowing Excellence,PrideandSpirit.They arecelebratedatassembly,receiving aspecial‘medal’fortheweekanda Principal’sAwardBadgewhichthey cankeepandwearontheirschool uniform.
Wecontinuetoinvolveourselvesin activitiesandsportingeventsthat allowourtamarikitogetinvolved andgrow.Ouryear1-4tookpartin FutureFernsnetballinterm1,we hadfootballsessionsforourgirls, swimmingsessionsatHastings AquaticCentreforallofourlearners, basketballsessionswiththeHawks Basketballplayersnottomention theusualsportingteamsthatwe fieldeachyearsuchasT-ball,MiniBall,netballandfootball.






Wealsohadayearof‘givingback’ byparticipatinginJammiesfor June,GumbootFriday,Loudshirt daytonamejustafew.
Matarikithisyearwascelebrated acrosstheroadatEbbettPark wherewehadourwhānaujoinin thecelebrationswithsharedkai andlotsoffunactivities.
Wecontinuetobepartofthe OrokohangaMusicTrustallowing ourseniorstudentstolearnand playeithertheviolinorcello.They hadawondertimeparticipating intheconcertinthemiddleofthe year.
Ourannual‘BookWeek’ celebrationcontinuestobea highlightoftheyearandisa fantasticwaytoendourterm3.
OneofourVERYPROUDmoments thisyearwasthesuccessofour ToiFusionroopuwhotookpartin the‘2025KidsSing’competition andwonthe‘OverallPerformance AwardfortheContributingSchool section.Afantasticresultgiven thatwehadthesmallestchoirin thissection.

Ourcommunityspiritshonethisyear witheventssuchasthe‘Back-to-School’ Carnival,Grandparents’Day,Family Picnics,The‘GetActiveTeMata’Colour Run,MovieNights,Discosandourfirst MiddleSchoolself-designedandbuilt Go-Kartraces.
Wewereproudtoalsogivebacktoour communitythroughinitiativesincluding GoOrangeDay(CranfordHospice),toy donationsforHawke’sBayHospital,the FirefighterSkyTowerChallenge fundraiser,JammiesforJune,theEnliven DisabilityBrickFestfundraiserand NourishedforNil.
Ourcommitmenttosustainability continuedthroughEnviroschools, plantingdays,freshwaterinvestigations andtheleadershipofourKaitiakigroup. WearelookingforwardtotheBoardof TrusteesfutureplansofaddingSolar Panelstoourschool.
