The life and work of Antiques Roadshow presenter and jewellery expert Geoffrey Munn
A witty and star-studded memoir that recounts Munn s journey from rural England to the heights of the art world
Contains Munn s encounters with royalty and celebrities, from HM Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby to Elton John
His is a warm, charming page turner of an autobiography: from start to finish full of fascinating characters, incredible and amusing anecdotes, self-effacing humour and wry asides, beautifully detailed observations and, of course, stuffed with great nuggets of jewellery and art history. The Jeweller Magazine
In this dazzling memoir revealing his encounters with royal and celebrity clients including the Queen Mother, Sir Elton John, Dame Joanna Lumley and Frank Sinatra, Antiques Roadshow presenter and jewellery expert Geoffrey Munn reflects on his stellar career, having spent more than five decades bejewelling some of the biggest names in the world. Hello!
In this colourful and witty narrative, Geoffrey Munn, OBE, MVO, FSA, FLS, best known as a presenter on BBC s Antiques Roadshow, reflects on his career in the London art world, spanning over 50 years. Arts & Collections magazine
Discover delightful anecdotes from Fabergé expert Geoffrey Munn s time at Wartski in 1970s London, featuring encounters with royalty, Hollywood icons, and the pursuit of Imperial Eggs. The Jewellery Editor
Born and bred in Sussex, Geoffrey Munn, Antiques Roadshow presenter and jewellery expert, came from a traditional rural background but only weeks after leaving a country Grammar School in 1972, he was plunged into the vortex of the London art world. It was the beginning of the career of a lifetime at the famous firm of Wartski, whose showrooms scintillated with gem-set necklaces, tiaras and three of the famous Fabergé Imperial Easter Eggs.
In a colourful and witty narrative, Geoffrey relates his daunting but delightful encounters with HM Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, HRH Princess Margaret and HRH The Duchess of Cornwall. In their wake, Geoffrey met a rich variety of luminaries, including Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Joanna Lumley, Stephen Fry, Elton John, Vivienne Westwood and Dame Edna Everage. This is certainly a rapid and amusing read but it is also unique study of a narrow and fast-changing society.
Geoffrey Munn, OBE, MVO, FSA, FLS, is best known for his work as a jewellery expert on the BBC Antiques Roadshow. Munn began working for Wartski when he was 19, specialising in the jewellery of Fortunato Pio Castellani, Carlo Giuliano and Peter Carl Fabergé. He eventually became the managing director of the firm, which is the official jeweller to HM The Queen and HRH The Prince of Wales.

Definitive, comprehensive overview of costume jewellery
Follows the evolution of costume jewellery from bourgeois France to the present day Lavishly illustrated reference book - a must-buy for jewellery enthusiasts and fashion historians
Includes a remarkable range of designers including Lalique, Fouquet, Dior, Balenciaga, Versace and many more
Costume jewellery is commonly understood to mean fashionable yet affordable adornments made from non-precious material. Originating in in mid-1700s France with the rise of the bourgeoise, the earliest costume jewellery mimicked fine jewellery styles. Since then, costume jewellery has always been evolving. From Victorian sentimentalism to the mass-produced ornaments available today, costume jewellery has developed into an artform in its own right. An encyclopaedic study of its history is long overdue. Flush with expert information, identification tips and historical anecdotes, Adorning Fashion explores the development of costume jewellery across the past four centuries. The styles of each era Victorian, Edwardian, Arts & Crafts, Jugenstil, Art Nouveau, and each decade of the twentieth century are given individual attention. Production methods are also explained in depth. Alloys and gilded electroplating can mimic silver and gold, while the refraction index of treated glass can, to the untrained eye, be mistaken for diamond.
Adorning Fashion discusses the contributions of a remarkable roster of designers and innovators, including Kokichi Mikimoto, Arthur L. Liberty, Carlo Giuliano, René Lalique, Elizabeth Bonté, the Castellani brothers, Jean Fouquet, Jean Després, Fulco di Verdura, Jean Schlumberger, Salvador Dalí, Miriam Haskell, Lina Baretti, Countess Cissy Zoltowska, Line Vautrin, Kenneth Jay Lane, Francisco Rebajes, Diane Love, Christian Dior, Balenciaga, Chanel, Van Cleef & Arpels, Paco Rabanne, Yves Saint Laurent, Napier, Haskell, Trifari, Brania, Bulgari, Versace and more.
Deanna Farneti Cera has been researching and writing on the subject of vintage jewellery for over thirty years. An international expert on European and American fashion jewellery, Deanna was the curator and acting Vice Director at the Municipal Gallery of Modern Art in Bologna from 1975-1980, and has curated the exhibitions Le giolie di Hollywood - American Designers of Fashion Jewellery 1920-1960 (1987) and Jewels of Fantasy (1991). She wrote the book Bijoux (Federico Motta Editore, 2010), which was translated into Costume Jewellery (UK Edition) and Amazing Gems (US Edition). Deanna lives and works in Mila

Features exclusive and unseen photographs of Yungblud by photographer Tom Pallant, including live performances and candid behind the scenes imagery
Yungblud is like nothing you ve seen before. That is, unless you ve seen a smiley punk/alt rocker from Doncaster, UK who wears pink socks, black-lipstick, and a skirt, plays a mean guitar, has an endless amount of energy, and an interesting aura of sex appeal. Then, and only then, can you say you ve seen someone like Yungblud. musicinminnesota.com
YUNGBLUD. A striking new musical voice has emerged for Gen-Z. Political, provocative and impassioned, Yungblud has in the space of three years become one of the UK s most recognisable artists through his unique blend of pop, punk and emo music gaining one of the most die-hard fanbases on the planet in the process.
From 21st Century Liability, where nothing was sacred gun violence, psychosis, sex, drugs and suicide to his sophomore album Weird!, an exploration of oddity and self-acceptance, YUNGBLUD challenges our zeitgeist as much as he channels it.
This is the first fully authorised book, featuring photographs by his friend and closest collaborator Tom Pallant.
Featuring an amazing selection of rare and unseen photographs, All My Friends Have Deserted charts Yungblud s journey from late 2019 as he toured his debut album across the world, right through releasing his second album during a global pandemic, scoring his first UK #1, returning triumphantly to Reading and Leeds festival mainstage and culminating in his biggest ever headline show, a sold-out Alexandra Palace in London.
All My Friends Have Deserted shows YUNGBLUD as a man of multitudes: dominating the stage, screaming into the mic, laughing behind-thescenes, enjoying quiet creative moments and pulling faces at the camera. The vicious energy of his performances carries onto the page. The result is a rollercoaster of a photo-essay that carries readers on a journey through the highs and lows of Gen-Z s most essential new rock star. My generation is over being divided. Being divided is an old concept that is rapidly becoming obsolete. We are opinionated. We are full of contradictions. That s the beauty of it. Our intention is to make this world equal. No matter what size you are, what shape you are, what colour you are, what sexuality you are
Underpinning it all is the message of empathy. Those who his lyrics resonate with are not alone. Authentic and electric, rebellious and irreverent, yet still utterly human, YUNGBLUD is the new face of punk. Here he presents himself through a series of exclusive and unseen photographs, taken by his friend and closest collaborator, photographer Tom Pallant.

Beyoncé is a force of nature. Her iconic songs, viral dance moves and daring acts of defiance are always delivered in sensational style. In the words of fashion legend Thierry Mugler, she represents the duality between being a woman and a warrior . Strutting and sashaying in Valentino leopard-print catsuits and her signature thigh-high boots, Queen B is more than just a glamour puss extraordinaire. She s a leader and an inspiration. Messages of self-empowerment and inner strength define her wardrobe as much as they electrify her songs. Her fashion connoisseurship has led to partnerships with numerous big names. Versace, Bottega, Balenciaga, Givenchy and Louis Vuitton are just a few of the brands saluted in her 2022 Renaissance album, and Anna Wintour even handed Bey creative control of the September 2018 issue of American Vogue. Perfect for fans and fashionistas, Beyoncé and the Clothes She Wears charts her sartorial journey, from Destiny s Child to the present day, in glorious visual detail.

Revealing fashion insights from the bestselling author of Harry Styles and the Clothes He Wears and Rihanna and the Clothes She Wears
Elegant hardback presentation including real cloth cover The perfect present for fans and fashionistas
Billie Eilish is a fashion phenomenon. Her goth-skate-anime wardrobe resonates loud and clear with her generation and anyone who doesn t want to be defined. Courted by the world s biggest fashion houses, Billie has a way of spotlighting inclusivity, body image, environmental issues and more, while always looking awesome. In the latest addition to this popular series, fashion writer Terry Newman casts her eye over a young megastar with oversized clothes and an even bigger attitude.
When Billie Eilish burst onto the music scene aged just 14, her outfits told everyone who she was before they d downloaded a track. She was savage and brooding. Her clothes were large and matched her attitude. Her wardrobe was made up of labels that speak the language of Gen Z and everyone who doesn t want to be defined by others. Growing up hasn t changed a thing though she now has the command of fashion houses the world over. As such, Billie often mixes and matches Chanel, Balenciaga, Rick Owens, Yohji Yamamoto, Raf Simons and Prada with finds from Slumpy Kev, Skoot, The Incorporated and Freak City, and the result is beyond the realms of meta-modernism. It s a look that might very well bite the hand that feeds it, but Eilish doesn t care. She wears what she likes when she likes. And we re here for it.

I m incredibly lucky to have an environment where I feel comfortable being myself Harry Styles.
Stepping bravely into the cyclone of 21st-century fashions, Harry Styles is more than weathering the storm. Whether he s breaking the internet with his $7.99 frog-eyed yellow bucket hat or a pair of black fishnets, or fronting cult magazine The Beauty Papers, as he did in March 2021, Hazza s sparkle knows no boundaries.
Gucci met Styles in 2014, and there was instant chemistry. According to designer Alessandro Michele, Harry is a young Greek God with the attitude of James Dean and a little bit of Mick Jagger and that effortless superstardom certainly radiates from the photos in this collection, which document the heart of Harry s wardrobe, both on-stage and off.
Part fashion history lesson, pulling references from the rock and roll greats of the past, and part innovation, Harry s style pays homage to Kurt Cobain and Marc Bolan, Prince and Little Richard, while developing into something authentic and entirely his own. This chic book fizzles with facts about Harry s styling choices, presenting the star s most revered looks alongside pictures that trace the roots of each design. With quotes from key designers, this is the perfect gift for any fan.

At Designers Guild, Tricia Guild uses flowers, leaves and stems to enhance a room s mood, bringing soul to the spaces we live in. A flower has many spirits over the course of its life, from the promise of those first pristine and innocent buds, to the resplendent joy of full blooms and the wistful glory as they fade. The cycle of nature provides an everevolving muse for Tricia Guild. Her latest book explores how blooms can evoke emotion, presenting a plethora of inspirational designs that breathe fresh life into our homes and workspaces.
Designers Guild is perhaps known best for their luxurious painterly designs, inspired by nature. Tricia Guild is renowned for her confident and vivid use of colour, but the natural and neutral palette enjoy equal prominence in the company's collections. Founded by Tricia Guild OBE, Designers Guild started life in 1970 as a small section of a single shop in Chelsea's King's Road. The brand has since evolved into a global enterprise, whose products have changed the way we view color, pattern and texture in our homes. The Designers Guild group comprises collections of fabrics, wallpapers, furniture, paint and accessories. They produce and distribute collections for brands like Christian Lacroix, William Yeoward, John Derian and Ralph Lauren. Perfect for fans of Grayson Perry, art, fashion and photography
Come and see Richard Ansett at Photo London, UK on 18th May 2024 at the ACC Art Books stand
Wow! Just wow! It s a really stunning thing. A love letter that is itself a work of art about a work of art that is Grayson. Both playful and deadly serious these photos are not simply about serving looks but about restlessness and identity and transience . Ansett s work is mind-blowing not cosy at all. Just brilliant photography . Suzanne Moore
Great to see Grayson in his various guises. He must have more women s clothes than the average woman! Martin Parr
Some are artists, some are muses Sir Grayson Perry is both, according to a new coffee table book. The Standard Muse documents Perry s Bowie-like range of personae, from his alter-ego Claire, to Madonna and child, to a Dolly Parton-style American country girl. Yahoo News UK
Grayson Perry is an award-winning artist best known in the art world for his ceramic works. To the wider public, he is perhaps equally famous for his crossdressing alter ego. This book reveals a unique relationship between Perry and renowned portrait photographer Richard Ansett through a previously unseen archive from photoshoots spanning over 10 years.
Ansett astutely captures the wit, style and irreverence of Perry s many complex personas. Beyond the snazzy outfits and cheeky poses, these thematic portrait collections offer wry social commentaries on current and popular phenomena, including the EU referendum, American pop culture and the existential questions of life and death.
At once glossy, fabulous and cutting-edge, Muse: A Portrait of Grayson Perry offers a complex, fascinating and ultimately affectionate insight into our recently knighted national treasure with anecdotes and narration from Ansett himself, this is a masterpiece of rhetorical observations and quick-thinking camerawork. Perfect for art geeks, style freaks and Perry s long-devoted following.
Richard Ansett is a fine art social documentary and portrait photographer based in London, UK. Normski s photographs capture the emerging hip hop scene of the 1980s from the inside Public Enemy, N.W.A., Cypress Hill, De La Soul, Goldie, Ice-T, Run DMC and Wu-Tang Clan are all included Definitive, celebratory, a stunning visual record
With his legendary swag, Norman Anderson, aka Normski, hip-hop ambassador in the United Kingdom since its emergence in the 1980s, is the great archivist of these glory days he captured London to Detroit. Rolling Stone France
The difference between Normski s photograph of me and any other is that it captures my soul. Goldie
He was a larger-than-life character, full of energy and totally motivating. He really was the hip hop photographer of the day in the UK. Stereo MC s This book contains a striking catalogue of images, many of which have been exhibited by establishments such as Tate Britain, the V&A, Somerset House and the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Marcus Barnes
On the heels of Hip-Hop s 50th anniversary, Man with the Golden Shutter is a celebratory record of hip-hop as much as it is a definitive collection of Normski s incredible photographs. GQ Middle East
What elevates the book is Normski s voice threading through it all. The stories that accompany the photographs are alive with hustle and charm as he talks his way backstage, makes lighting rigs out of whatever was lying around and persuades a tired MC to pose just one more time. Musee Magazine
Normski was a vital witness to the period known as the Golden Age of Rap, when big US artists like Run DMC, LL Cool J and Public Enemy started to play in the UK. At the same time, a British music scene born of Black music and myriad multicultural influence was developing, giving birth to Jungle, Garage and Techno.
The author, who describes himself as having been a young Black British homeboy photographer , was in the right place at the right time to document the emergent music, community and social movements of hip hop and rap in the UK. Normski: Man with the Golden Shutter presents Normski s personal journey through that world from the mid-1980s to early 1990s.
The book includes Normski s often previously unseen photographs of Public Enemy, N.W.A., Cypress Hill, De La Soul, Goldie, Ice-T, Run DMC, Wu-Tang Clan and many others, alongside the photographer s stories and anecdotes from the centre of what would become a hugely influential cultural movement.

Over 100 pictures of Rihanna and designers who have influenced her sartorial taste
The perfect gift for fans and fashionistas
The book Rihanna and the Clothes She Wears satisfies the cravings of fans and fashion enthusiasts alike, boasting over 100 images of Rihanna and her favorite designers who have influenced her taste.
HOLA! Magazine
I grew up on a really small Island, and I didn t have a lot of access to fashion, but as far as I could remember, fashion has always been my defence mechanism. Even as a child I remember thinking, she can beat me, but she cannot beat my outfit. Rihanna, accepting the CFDA Fashion Icon of the Year Award in 2014.
From the author of the runaway bestseller Harry Styles and the Clothes He Wears comes a new, fresh look at style icon Rihanna.
Rihanna has learnt how to define her own terms whatever she does whether in the worlds of fashion, music, beauty, philanthropy, business, or activism, she is both muse and creative, a collaborator and pioneer. To date she has 135 million Instagram followers and counting. In 2022 at the age of 34, largely because of her Fenty Beauty empire, she became Forbes youngest self-made billionaire.
But it is her personal wardrobe and the way she wears it that embodies Rihanna s charisma, integrity, and humour most: everything she does reflects what she wears herself. She is a risk-taker, but as she said on the red-carpet in 2014 you will never be stylish if you don t take risks. The gamble has paid off. Rihanna s mix-and-match method of wearing high fashion and streetwear, young designers and vintage, hip-hop classics, and avant-garde custom-made pieces, has meant that she has equal footing in both the music and fashion industries. Chairman and CEO of the LVMH group, Sidney Toledano says she is: a style icon for today s generation .
The breadth of Rihanna s fashion knowledge and style is astounding. In Rihanna and the Clothes She Wears, Terry Newman steps into the world of this fashion icon by examining her style. From couture catwalks to her own empire Fenty, political statements to high street casual, this chic book fizzles with facts about Rihanna s styling choices, presenting the star s most revered looks. With quotes from key designers, this is the perfect gift for any fan.
Terry Newman worked in the fashion industry for more than 20 years, both as an editor at i-D, Attitude, and Self Service and as a contributing writer for newspapers including the Guardian, the Independent, the Times, and the Sunday Times. Including collaborations with Pink Floyd and The Rolling Stones
Evocative photographs that leave the viewer enthralled
Sexy, polished and subtly sinister. His photo archive is to die for The Times
It s a surprising book of contrasts and contradictions, a paean to the fashion image of the time, one clearly influenced by the mono-chromatic asceticism of Horst and the drenched hues of Guy Bourdin. The Sunday Times Style
Flipping through Willie Christie s book you can discern an artistic mood in many of his fashion clicks
Kathimerini
An artistic work that interweaves virtuality and reality to attract the audience to explore further. Vogue China
Willie Christie s photographs are far more than a record of fashion, style or contemporary culture. Dynamic, cinematic and stylish, they present beautifully observed moments within a narrative, leaving the viewer intrigued, beguiled and enthralled. His work from the heady mid-1970s remains highly relevant today, speaking to us through the uncompromising individuality and power of his compositions. And as recently as 2019, his groundbreaking series of advertising images for Medway Shoes threw another curve ball across the field of modern visual art.
With a foreword by legendary Vogue style director Grace Coddington, this first ever collection of Christie s vibrant work, re-examines the people and the styles of his original output, together with his own reminiscences from his days at Vogue and The Sunday Times, and from his collaborations with Pink Floyd and The Rolling Stones.
Willie Christie was born a while ago. During the 70s and early 80s he worked extensively as a photographer with British Vogue. His portfolio includes award-winning advertising campaigns (L'Oreal and Yves St Laurent), fashion and portrait work for international icons (e.g., Cary Grant, Grace Jones, Douglas Fairbanks Jnr, Sir John Mills, Catherine Deneuve) and Rock 'n' Roll album covers and portraits (e.g., Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Bryan Ferry, Lou Reed and more). After winning a series of awards and being featured in several exhibitions, the lure of film pulled him away from photographs. In 1982, he moved into the realm of writing and directing commercials and music videos, such as Pink Floyd's Final Cut and the first cinema commercial for Medway shoes. The launch of Willie s Limited Edition Collection in 2011 marked the first time the photographer delved into his personal archives to showcase work that hadn t been displayed for over three decades.

Noted author and jewelry specialist Juliet Weir-de La Rochefoucauld takes the reader on an intellectual, art historical, and sensual journey as she traces Yewn s early career and rise to acclaim IGI GemBlog
A first-of-its-kind art book narrating worldly and philosophical Han Chinese culture in the language of jewellery art. Arts & Collections
A preeminent and harmonious collaboration with text by renowned jewelry historian Juliet Weir-de La Rochefoucauld and artistic direction by trailblazing designer Dickson Yewn results in a one-of-a-kind book, Yewn: Contemporary Art Jewels and the Silk Road. Private Air Magazine
Dickson Yewn is the quintessential modern-day literatus. His contemporary jewellery is a crystallisation of thousands of years of Chinese material history. Square rings rub shoulders with antique porcelain forms, shapes taken from Ming furniture and the geometric latticework found in Chinese architecture. Yewn focuses on these traditional Chinese motifs, but also understands the significance of different materials. Wood, one of the five elements in Chinese philosophy, is present in most of his collections.
To wear a contemporary jewel by Dickson Yewn is to delve back into China s works of art and its history, blended with a contemporary twist. This new monograph of his work details the inspiration Yewn has drawn from the Imperial court, exploring its influence on the art of jewellery, from silks, embroidery, painting, architecture and cloisonné enamel to courtesan culture. Beautiful, detailed illustrations and photographs highlight Yewn s fealty to the artisanal techniques employed by the Imperial courts. Esteemed jewellery writer Juliet Weir-de La Rochefoucauld invites the reader to explore the deeper symbolism behind Yewn s jewels.
Juliet Weir-de La Rochefoucauld is an expert on jewellery both contemporary and classical. From family ties to the jewellers of old - her great grandfather, Thomas Weir, founded the Weir & Sons jewellers in Dublin, Ireland - to her career at Sotheby's, and at Drouot, Paris and as a member of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain (Gem A), Juliet has lived a platinum-plated life. Her previous books with ACC include Women Jewellery Designers, Lydia Courteille and 21st-Century Jewellery Designers

Through 100 masterpieces chosen from among the over 2000 works housed in the Pinacoteca di Brera, this volume offers an exciting journey through the history of pictorial art between the 13th and 20th centuries
The selection, edited by Asia Graziano and with descriptions by Rosella Lauber, is an opportunity to admire masterpieces that have been celebrated and recognised as such for centuries, together with works that have been received adequate critical and historical attention, but which are, today more than ever, worthy of great attention
Includes the work of Lega, Segantini, Gaetano Previati, Boccioni, Carrà, Morandi, De Pisis, Mafai, Guttuso, and Picasso, plus many more
This book offers a privileged journey through the geography and history of Italian and international figurative culture kept at the Pinacoteca di Brera, Milan, with works spanning a chronological period from the 13th to the 20th centuries. The Pinacoteca, born within the Enlightenment culture as a testimony to the progress of the human spirit, remains today a dynamic and lively instrument of civilisation. The book reconstructs the patronage and provenance of the paintings and the way in which they were received; it specifies their technical data, as well as introducing comments and in-depth studies.
In addition, the rich illustrative apparatus leads to continuous comparisons and new explorations.

An evocative book for all those who have a special care and interest about seafarers and the sea
Through meticulously-researched texts and striking portraits, experienced fishermen across Europe share insights into their lives and the fast-changing world of fishing
Features handpicked, simple, and regional authentic sailor recipes
Capturing life at sea through engaging photographs, compelling stories, and authentic fisherman s recipes, this characterful volume is a one-of-a-kind companion for all sea lovers with a sense of adventure and appetite.
Whether in the shimmering sunshine of the Adriatic Coast or up against a two-and-a-half-meter swell in Brittany,Captain s Dinner is a maritime journey of discovery through the world of fishing. What does it mean to be dependent on the vagaries of nature on a daily basis? What is it like to haul in fishing nets in rain and galeforce 8 wind? How do freshly caught breams, herring, etc. actually end up on deck by lunch break and on the plate by night? In search of answers, photographer Paul Pflüger braved the wind and weather to accompany 27 fishermen at work on European seas, observing their daily routine over several months. The result is a lively, intimate, and unadulterated logbook of fishing and life at sea, combining captivating portraits of the protagonists alongside their own commentaries on the delicate craft and hard labour that make up a fisherman s existence today, not least when faced with criticallydiminished fish stocks and attendant fishing quotas. The featured fishermen also share their own favourite, previously-unpublished seafood dishes, from fried onion herb herring to Irish surf & turf or cold smoked mullet. With more than 50 of these delicious, simple seafood recipes, Captain s Dinner is a must for all those who love and care about the sea and its unique flavours.
Paul Pflüger is a cameraman and photographer working in reportage and documentary. Born in 1983 in Mainz, he has lived in Bremen, Hamburg, and Biarritz and now divides his time between Paris and Lisbon.

Impressive pictures of a unique project that makes the consequences of poaching abundantly clear Wildlife photographer Joachim Schmeisser made it his mission to document the story of these abandoned baby elephants
With a foreword by Dame Daphne Sheldrick, founder of the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust
Because elephants are pachyderms, a combination of two Greek roots meaning thick skin, one might think that nothing bothers them and that they lead quiet, safe lives. Nothing could be further from the truth: elephants have been hunted and killed for their ivory tusks since antiquity. And people often ignore the calves left behind, who must now live out their lives as traumatised and fearful orphans. Wildlife photographer Joachim Schmeisser made it his mission to document the story of these abandoned baby elephants. Through his sponsorship of elephants, he came into contact with the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, the world s largest and most successful rescue and rehabilitation operation for orphaned elephants, headquartered in Nairobi. Professional veterinary technicians bottle feed the elephant calves until they are old enough to locate their own food. By living together with older elephant calves, they also learn the social rules governing elephant herds. After this phase is complete, the elephants are taken to one of the Trust s rehabilitation stockades before they are released back into the wild. Joachim Schmeisser followed numerous elephants through the entire process and captured fascinating pictures from their arrival at the nursery all the way to their release back into the wild. Elephants in Heaven provides a visual record of how these traumatized elephants are raised in a place that is truly heavenly for them, offering a compelling behind-the-scenes look inside an elephant nursery. The touching animal portraits also convey the devastating consequences of poaching, because for Joachim Schmeisser, it s about beauty, fragility, transience, mindfulness, and about dignity and the equal standing of each individual.
Text in English, German and French.
Joachim Schmeisser began his professional career as an advertising photographer. A visual history of the world's most legendary motor cars, from popular classics, to priceless one-offs, and some serious boytoys
New additions to the automotive market are judged primarily by efficiency or fuel consumption. Things are quite different for historical cars. Major car shows, from Pebble Beach to Villa d Este, feature classic cars, which, although they may not achieve top marks in the wind tunnel, have a timeless elegance that makes the hearts of all aficionados skip a beat. The photographer Ansel Adams, who was an honorary judge at Pebble Beach, once defined them as follows: The type of vehicle I would like to be buried in. From the Maserati Ghibli to the Ford Thunderbird, René Staud has shot automotive classics in settings ranging from the subtle to the spectacular. As coorganizer and head of the Car Selection Committee for Schloss Bensberg Classics, Jürgen Lewandowski provides authoritative texts. The Classic Cars Book conveys a real passion for these spectacular vehicles, appealing to existing fans and those yet to fall under their spell.

Twenty-four contemporary artists from German-speaking countries
Analogue photography is enjoying a revival. Whereas digital photography is predominantly used for documentary and everyday purposes, its analogue counterpart is becoming increasingly popular as an artistic and experimental medium.
This catalogue showcases the wide variety of contemporary trends in analogue photography as exemplified by individual and serial works, as well as photographic installations. Produced by 24 artists from German-speaking countries, the works are grouped into four thematic sections that illustrate different facets of this art form, all with a distinct focus on the material and experimental uses of light, chemical ingredients, and technique.
The publication highlights contemporary takes on photograms, chemigrams, and lumen printing, which all hark back to the early days of photography. Silver daguerreotypes and ambrotypes of modern-day sceneries create a disturbing anachronistic effect. Yet other artists employ very different forms of photography that go beyond simple cameras.
The catalogue also includes artistic positions that blur the boundaries between analogue and digital photography, e.g., by interacting with artificial intelligence, collaborating with digital machines, and transposing digital images into analogue pictures. The show includes work by: Sylvia Ballhause, Eun Sun Cho, Günter Derleth, Jana Dillo, Tine Edel, Alexander Gehring, Spiros Hadjidjanos, Alexander Kadow, Georgia Krawiec, Martin Kreitl, Antje Kröger, Ute Lindner, Lilly Lulay, Harald Mairböck, Florian Merkel, Falk Messerschmidt, Elisabeth Moritz, Taiyo Onorato and Nico Krebs, Helena Petersen, René Schäffer, Karoline Schneider, Regina Stiegeler, Claus Stolz, Ria Wank.

A testimony to an exceptional friendship between artists
Numerous works of art published here for the very first time Exhibition - Kunsthaus Stade - 19 May-23 September 2018
Text in English and German
Owing to their achievements as radical and unique innovators of the painting tradition, Jonathan Meese (* 1970 in Tokyo), Daniel Richter (* 1962 in Eutin, Germany), and Tal R (* 1967 in Tel Aviv) have won international recognition over the last decades. In their work, the three artists refer to established ways of seeing, while at the same time distorting, expanding, or challenging them. The humorous aspect of their art always opens the door for contemporary topics, ranging from politics, society, and self-presentation, to questions about the general significance of painting. For the exhibition Bavid Dowie, Jonathan Meese, Daniel Richter, and Tal R have teamed up for the first time, in order to work and exhibit their art together. This catalogue presents the works the artists developed jointly, as well as new pieces that were created individually. It thus not only provides a glimpse into this one-of-a-kind collaboration, but gives a good insight into where each one of the three outstanding artists stands at present. Text in English and German.

Offers insight into a niche area of Christo and Jeanne-Claude's repertoire: their barrel projects
Christo and Jeanne-Claude are renowned above all for their ephemeral yet monumental interventions in landscapes and cities. Fabric is a defining feature of their projects; they use it to wrap, conceal and otherwise manipulate our visual perception of the world. They have created numerous oil barrel sculptures and installations since the beginning of their careers, though these are less well known. This book is dedicated to these barrel creations, a niche portion of two great artists ouevre.
In the late 1950s, Christo started to wrap used oil drums which he had found on scrapyards or bought cheaply at recycling sites. Later, he began piling the untreated oil drums to form ever larger structures. The largest project of this kind to date is a giant sculpture made up of 410,000 oil barrels in the desert of the United Arab Emirates. The project has been developing since 1977; ever since the death of Jeanne-Claude in 2009, Christo has continued it on his own.
This book, published to accompany a large exhibition at Fondation Maeght in the south of France, shows many photos as well as images of drawings and collages, some of which have never been published before. They offer a comprehensive insight into Christo and JeanneClaude s oil barrel projects. Significantly, it contains a detailed documentation of a sculpture specially created by Christo for the famous Giacometti courtyard at Fondation Maeght.
Exhibition: 4 June 27 November 2016, Fondation Maeght, Saint-Paul-de-Vence, France.

This monograph shares unprecedented insights into Christo and Jeanne-Claude's early work Features archival images and photos of the artists' oeuvre published for the very first time Accompanies an exhibition at the Centre Pompidou in Paris from 18 March to 15 June 2020 and at the PalaisPopulaire in Berlin from 21 March to 17 August 2020
In the autumn of 2020, Christo will wrap the Arc de Triomphe in Paris in silvery fabric for 16 days, returning to his signature style after realising The Floating Piers in Italy, the London Mastaba, and a quarter of a century after he and Jeanne-Claude wrapped the Reichstag building in Berlin. As a prelude, a major exhibition at PalaisPopulaire in the German capital will celebrate this 25-year anniversary in the spring of 2020. At the same time, the Pompidou Center will pay tribute to Christo and Jeanne-Claude by stagingThe Pont Neuf Wrapped Documentary exhibition as well as a comprehensive show highlighting their early years in Paris.
To accompany these events, Matthias Koddenberg, art historian and long-time friend of both Christo and his wife Jeanne-Claude, who was the other half of the artistic duo until her death in 2009, has edited an elaborate collection of interviews. The book is composed of many conversations held between Koddenberg and Christo in the artist s New York studio over the last few years.
With rare frankness, Christo describes how he fled from Bulgaria and made his way into the Western world. He talks about his time in Vienna and Geneva, his vibrant life in Paris that was full of hardship, and the fateful moment when he met Jeanne-Claude.
This publication provides an exceptional inside view, uniting texts and numerous archival images and photographs, many of which have never been published before, or depict early works by Christo that have only recently been rediscovered.

Striking black-and-white pictures taken from the sidelines of the circus ring
Challenging common stereotypes about the circus
Freedom, adventure, romance; a spellbound audience, bright-eyed children, rolling drums, a brass band playing lively music; intrepid acrobats in colourful costumes and garishly made-up clowns. The same old stereotypes about the world of the circus are trotted out on many occasions. Over a period spanning more than 15 years, the photographer Oliver Stegmann visited different circuses to take photos of what happens behind the curtains. His muted images attempt to break the usual stereotypes. Again and again, the photographer captured protagonists in moments of unawareness, showing scenes that the audience would normally never get to see from the edge of the ring.
Above all, Stegmann is interested in the atmosphere of tense expectation and utmost concentration when the artists are about to perform their hair-raising acts. Using neither colour nor flash, he creates an enigmatic atmosphere reminiscent of expressionist films.
For his circus series, Stegmann develops a kind of imagery that has rarely been applied to the small world of the circus as consistently and confidently as in this case. In terms of subject-matter, design, and production,Circus Noir takes a different approach to this genre by adding an entirely unromantic perspective that focuses on the true essence of what it means to work in a circus.

A special publication to mark the 150th anniversary of Ernst Barlach's birth First comprehensive overview of Barlach's wood sculptures Features a state-of-the-art scientific analysis of his work
As we mark the 150th anniversary of Barlach s birth in 2020, the Ernst Barlach Haus in Hamburg pays tribute to the artist with a comprehensive overview of his wood sculptures. Starting with its own collection, the museum elaborately documented all available figures between Lübeck and Zurich with new photographs. This book is the result of this monumental project. It introduces 72 of the 84 extant wood sculptures and includes many fascinating large-format colour plates presenting the statues and their details.
Wood held particular importance for Barlach as an artistic material: he regarded it as animate matter. Consequently, woodwork takes centre stage in Barlach s artistic practice a fact that is often obscured by the large number of mostly posthumous bronze casts of his works. Around 1907, Barlach began to explore the centuries-old medieval art of woodcarving without any prior training. The poor, the homeless, the struggling, invalids, beggars and outlaws: Barlach turned his attention to those pushed to the margins of society and paid tribute to them by placing them at the centre of his art.
This book does justice to the reductive character of his forms, which gestures at simplification and a transcendence of time, by highlighting Barlach s contemporary relevance.

A photographic tribute to those on the frontline of the fight against the pandemic
A compelling testimony to the remarkable commitment of health-care professionals
For nearly two years, hospital staff and nurses have been working at the limit of their capacity on hermetically sealed COVID wards. Struggling with worsening physical and mental health, having to wear protective equipment for hours on end and being constantly worried about contracting the virus and passing it on to family members, they have endured ordeals that are hard for outsiders to appreciate.
With his new project, the photographer Günter Valda himself working as a hospital nurse aims to give frontline healthcare workers a voice and put a face to their experience. He asked hospital staff to send him self-portraits from work and to jot down their thoughts and feelings. The result is a collection of snapshots showing faces that are marked by the dramatic scenes that unfold before them every day, with furrows, dents, and red lines caused by tightly fitting masks and protective gear. Who are the people behind these masks? What keeps them motivated? What are their thoughts? Valda s book is a deeply emotional testimony to our time. With its powerful images, it stands in solidarity with those on the frontline of the fight against the pandemic.

The discovery of a photographic gem
Dazzlingly elegant pictures showing astounding detail
Photos capturing the architecture of a bygone era
In recent years, the images shot by the Cologne-based architectural photographers Hugo (1879-1938) and Karl Hugo Schmölz (19171986) have been winning wide acclaim and are receiving more and more attention. After completing his photography training and working in various positions, Hugo Schmölz set himself up as an architectural photographer in Cologne in 1911. Later, his son Karl Hugo took over the company. While the work of the two photographers fell into oblivion over the years, it is being rediscovered today and reveals its breathtaking aesthetic originality and technical perfection. Due to the development of a special, additional exposure technique, Schmölz was able to capture dark interiors in astounding detail even at the beginning of the century and to create dazzlingly elegant pictures which have lost none of their expressive power. For the first time ever, the book presents a series of photos, taken mostly in the Rhineland and the Ruhr district between 1935 and 1957, together with pictures showing movie theatres which were brand new at the time. Most of these cinema auditoriums have since been destroyed, but the light in the photos gives them a threedimensionality that evokes a striking sculptural effect. They are certainly not imbued with nostalgia, on the contrary, they appear to be strangely lost in time and, owing to their extremely delicate gray nuances, seem almost hyperreal.

Blurring the distinction between original and copy, doll and clone, human and robot
An artist book that comes with a sound box
Publishing to accompany an exhibition at Kunsthalle Giessen between 7 May and 11 June 2021
Ever since her student years at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, Louisa Clement (b. 1987) has investigated the transformation of human communication, especially in digital space and social media. One of her primary interests is the increasingly widespread display of idealised self-portraits. For her most recent work, entitled Repräsentantinnen/ Representative, Clement has created copies of herself that are as fascinating as they are unsettling. In collaboration with a Chinese company specialising in the manufacture of sex dolls, she commissioned life-sized manikins to be made based on parameters of her body that were calculated with the help of body scans, microphotographs, and video recordings of movements. With movable parts and sexually functional, these dolls not only have the same face as their creator, but are programmed to imitate the artist s facial expressions and to communicate and interact with spectators and the surrounding world
This publication documents Clement s work and explores various technical, psychological, economic, and ethical questions raised by it. The book also features a sound box that allows it to interact with its readers.

Where jetliners used to take off every few minutes, nearly everything has ground to a halt. The bright blue sky above the tarmac is serene, the contrails have disappeared, the endless corridors are eerily deserted. In April 2020, at the height of the first lockdown of the coronavirus pandemic, the photographer Marc Krause explored Frankfurt Airport with his analogue camera to capture the strange calm of this non-place.
Without the hectic hustle and bustle of pre-pandemic times, he noticed things that are usually drowned out by the rushing crowds: the geometric lines of the constructivist architecture, the changing patterns of light and shade, the junk left behind by travellers in vast halls that would be teeming with thousands of people on a normal day. Offering a fascinating glimpse of a seemingly surreal world, this publication is an unsettling testimony to a historic moment in time and a powerful photo book that leaves viewers torn between melancholy and hopeful longing.

Features recently discovered, previously unpublished materials from the archives of the Kunstbibliothek in Berlin by Bauhaus professor and renowned avant-garde artist László Moholy-Nagy
Includes work by Moholy-Nagy, Guillaume Apollinaire, F.T. Marinetti, Theo van Doesburg, Herbert Bayer, Walter Dexel, and El Lissitzky
Published concurrently with an exhibition at the Staatliche Kunstbibliothek in Berlin
The 1920s in Germany witnessed a revolution in visual communication, typography, and graphic design that still influences us today. In 1929, Hungarian avant-garde artist and Bauhaus professor László Moholy-Nagy was invited to design a room dedicated to the future of typography at the Martin-Gropius Bau in Berlin as part of a larger exhibition called New Typography ( Neue Typographie ).
The exhibition was organised by the Ring of New Advertising Designers ( ring neue werbegestalter ), a group started by Kurt Schwitters in 1927 which consisted of 12 avant-garde designers and artists who explored a common vision of modernity in advertising and graphic design. In five years, the Ring put on over 20 shows in Germany, and invited guest artists to exhibit with them. Moholy-Nagy s room in the New Typography show was called Where is Typography Headed? . He created 78 freestanding panels with work by himself, other artists, and contemporary printed matter, which addressed the current trends and future direction of typography. The panels are reproduced together in this book for the first time, along with an Abcdarium of terms and concepts by a roster of noted typography and design historians.

The story of German band AnnenMayKantereit captured in striking pictures
Up-close and personal moments off stage
A coming-of-age book about life and friendship
AannenMayKantereit is one of the most popular bands in Germany. From the very beginning, Martin Lamberty has been their photographer. He has been travelling with his old friends from school around Europe ever since. His pictures tell the story of how the young musicians started their careers by performing on the streets of Cologne right up to the development of their current album Schlagschatten .
Lamberty has provided a chronicle of the concerts, of the band s life on tour, and their studio recording sessions. But his shots are far more than just classic band photos. As their friend, he is always a part of what is happening and gets to capture private moments behind the scenes, ranging from the miserably long journeys on the tour bus and the lonely hours in anonymous hotels, to the band s vacations together.
In a unique way, Lamberty combines these silent moments with intriguing, sometimes melancholy images of rooms or landscapes and weaves them into a rich account. The result is a coming-of-age book about winning and losing, about life and friendship.

In the mountains of California or on the rooftops of New York, the feeling of utter remoteness can be triggered everywhere in the United States. Not only does the vastness of the country account for it, but also the absence of people. Days can pass without seeing a single human being. Signposts and mailboxes, however, indicate that these far-off regions are inhabited. Similarly, one can get lost in the concrete jungle and on the tarmac of cramped cities. Louise Amelie and Aljaz Fuis have explored these peripheries in the literal sense of the word with their camera, the fringes and outermost areas of both the American countryside and metropolises. The photos in their book Off Worlds portray more than a mere geographic separation from society. They capture a systemic or perceived isolation which is frequently transformed into a statement of independence, pride, and liberty. Text in English and German.

A photographic experiment about the links between the Ruhr and the Parisian périphérique, discussing the borders of both city and society
In their works, Katja Stuke and Oliver Sieber address questions about the structure of cities and the links between urban and social boundaries. Their photographs reveal a particular interest in areas and neighbourhoods that are marginalised or carry a certain stigma in the eyes of society. Instead of focusing on individual images, Stuke and Sieber prefer to create series and sequences, layering, mixing, and connecting elements to create wide-ranging associations.
Their most recent work links the French capital with the Ruhr and its imagined centre, the Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex, which is often referred to as the Eiffel Tower of the Ruhr. However, neither the Eiffel Tower nor the Zollverein complex feature in the photos. Rather, Stuke and Sieber s experimental work juxtaposes snapshots taken along the périphérique ring road in Paris and photos of places associated with the Ruhr.
The locations are seemingly chosen at random in this system, but it is precisely their haphazard, fragmentary arrangement that highlights unexpected parallels and ingenious connections between places, actions, events, and individuals that are separated from each other in space and time.
