A Note From the Publishers

The new year is always a good time to reflect on the past and set new goals. When we published the first issue of 91302 Magazine in October 2024, we had high aspirations, and happily, we are achieving our goals. Our mission is to serve as a community-focused, modern lifestyle publication that reflects the beauty, art, culture, and spirit of Calabasas, Hidden Hills, and the surrounding communities. We share stories about neighbors, community leaders, educators, and health professionals and support the local economy as an elevated marketing platform for dynamic local businesses. We've only succeeded thanks to the shared vision of readers and advertisers who support us along the way. For that, we are truly grateful. We also appreciate our writers and photographers whose amazing talents grace the pages of this “Love & Passion” issue.

On our cover, you’ll find Calabasas resident Valerie Morehouse—known as the "secret weapon" and "career saver" for the world’s biggest music icons. A celebrity vocal coach, Valerie specializes in rehabilitating and protecting voices—often collaborating with top surgeons to fix vocal cords. She is one of the most influential behind-the-scenes figures in the entertainment industry, and we are proud to dive into her work and contributions.

In this issue, we also feature exceptional doctors and healthcare professionals who focus on prevention and wellness, rather than just treatment—to keep us at our best. To inspire you to get involved, we draw your attention to one of our local families, the Steiners, and their 8-year-old son, Aiden, who is battling a rare illness. Time is critical to finding a cure. We hope you’ll consider joining "Aiden's A-Team" to help raise the desperately needed funds for medical research.

We’re also celebrating love and friendship for the upcoming Valentine’s Day weekend. Enjoy our suggestions for special Valentine gifts, sweet Valentine treats, and restaurants that are going all-out to provide a wonderful, romantic, and joy-filled Valentine’s culinary experience. As always, your feedback, ideas, and suggestions are appreciated.

I am experiencing menopause symptoms. My doctor suggested hormone therapy, but I am afraid to start it.

Whether or not to begin hormone therapy is often a difficult decision for women going through menopause. Much of the confusion arises because the recommendations have changed over the years. Back in the 80s, almost all women were put on hormones to help with their bones, prevent heart disease, and relieve menopausal symptoms. Then, in 2002, a study came out saying not to take them because of an increased risk of blood clots and breast cancer. Recently, the FDA removed these warnings to replace them with more evidence-based communication of hormone therapy risks—prioritizing clinical relevance, distinguishing between different formulations and patient populations, and balancing the narrative to reflect both safety and therapeutic value. Let me further explain.

Blood clots are not a great risk anymore because most patients are on topical versions of hormone therapy (patches, gels, vaginal rings, etc.), which bypass the metabolism in the liver which is what led to the blood clots. Breast cancer risk drops to 1 in 1000 when taken with progesterone. This risk is about the same as obesity. The death rate for all cancers is lower in women who have taken hormones than those who have not.

In fact, the North American Menopausal Society states that for almost all women under 60, the benefits for heart, brain, and bones; the reduction in type 2 diabetes; and the decrease in belly fat outweigh the risks. I hope this takes some of the fear out of your decision. Always take the lowest dose possible and discuss with your healthcare provider.

Expert Advice by Graham THE HILLSIDE SPECIALIST

Erosion Control

Protecting homes on slopes, hillsides, and fire-affected areas

Homes built on slopes or hillsides face unique challenges when it comes to erosion and soil stability. Natural forces— such as gravity, rainfall, and water runoff—constantly act on sloped land, increasing the risk of soil movement and structural damage. These risks become even greater after heavy rains or wildfires, when vegetation that once stabilized the soil has been removed.

Erosion occurs when water washes away soil, weakening the ground that supports a home. Over time, this can lead to cracked foundations, leaning fences, damaged patios, and in severe cases, landslides. Proper erosion control is essential to protect both the home and the safety of its occupants.

Retaining walls play a critical role in stabilizing sloped properties. These structures are designed to hold back soil, reduce downhill movement, and create secure, level areas. When properly engineered and constructed, retaining walls help protect foundations and prevent long-term structural issues.

Equally important is proper drainage. Water buildup behind retaining walls or near foundations creates pressure that can cause walls to fail and soil to shift. Effective drainage systems—such as French drains, perforated pipes, and surface channels—direct water safely away from the home and reduce erosion risk.

After fires or periods of intense rainfall, proactive erosion control becomes especially important. Investing in welldesigned retaining walls and drainage systems helps safeguard the home, preserve property value, and provide long-term peace of mind. On sloped or hillside properties, erosion control isn’t optional—it’s essential.

For life, pleasure, and fitness with EMFEMME 360

Dr. Lori Ann Musto, D.O., is a bio-identical hormone and longevity specialist with over 35 years of medical experience. She is the founder of Musto Medical, based in Calabasas, where she integrates traditional primary care with a holistic, regenerative approach to health and wellness. Many of her female patients regularly ask about treatments to address urinary incontinence and other intimacy concerns—whether a result of age, childbirth, or cosmetic insecurity. For that reason, Dr. Musto specializes in the EMFEMME 360 treatment procedure, which is the shortest, noninvasive radiofrequency (RF) treatment to address a wide range of women’s wellness concerns.

EMFEMME 360 is a quick, in-office treatment that utilizes 360-degree RF energy to gently heat vaginal and vulvar tissues. This thermal energy is delivered homogeneously throughout the

treated area, stimulating the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin, which are vital for tissue firmness and elasticity. The procedure is particularly beneficial for addressing concerns such as vaginal laxity (often following childbirth) and dryness and improving bladder control and sexual responsiveness.

One of the primary advantages of the EMFEMME 360 is its efficiency. A typical session can be completed in just about 10 minutes, requiring no anesthesia or recovery time. Patients can resume their daily activities immediately. The procedure is performed with a comfortable, internal applicator that an operator steadily moves to ensure uniform heating and safety, with the therapeutic temperature continuously monitored.

Dr. Musto typically recommends a series of three sessions to achieve optimal and lasting results. With extensive experience and commitment to utilizing the latest technology, Dr. Musto helps patients enhance their quality of life, offering a safe, effective, and discreet path to improved intimate wellness.

In addition to the regenerative EMFEMME 360 treatments, Dr. Musto also offers Exomind Therapy, a noninvasive brain treatment to stimulate specific brain areas, improving mood, focus, and emotional regulation for conditions like depression, anxiety, OCD, and binge eating. She also recommends supplemental treatments, such as Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT); oxytocin therapy; herbal adaptogens; and functional lab testing. In short, “There’s no single roadmap through menopause,” Dr. Musto says. “Every woman’s experience is distinct. The most effective treatments are integrative and support mind, body, and spirit.” After all, she says, menopause isn’t just about symptom relief. Rather, “It’s an opportunity to rewire, rebalance, and restore every system that’s been running on overdrive for decades.” 26050 Mureau Rd., #105, Calabasas | 310.454.1212 | mustomedical.com @mustomedical. l

The Voice Builder VALERIE MOREHOUSE

Valerie Morehouse is a Calabasas-based celebrity vocal coach and performance health expert trusted by Grammy-winning singers, chart-topping artists, and award-winning actors. Known for her signature method, she helps performers strengthen, protect, and transform their voices for touring, recording, Broadway, film sets, and live television—while preserving each artist’s authentic sound and longterm health. With over two decades of experience, Valerie is among the industry’s most sought-after coaches, guiding today’s leading performers through strain, performance preparation, recovery, and longterm care.

Valerie’s path to becoming one of the most soughtafter vocal rehabilitation experts was far from predictable. Raised between Glendale and England before her family settled in Huntington Beach, she studied opera and journalism at Chapman University. Upon graduation, she shifted from being onstage to a career behind the scenes, accepting a marketing role at Maverick Records.

Again, her direction pivoted when she developed disabling vocal nodules, prompting a move to Japan to teach English. Initially she hesitated when asked

to train singers since instructing is a different skill than performing, but Valerie quickly found a natural aptitude in studies of anatomy, speech therapy, and physiology. What started as personal research resulted in her own treatment without surgery, thus igniting a determination to help others heal.

By her mid-20s, Valerie returned to Los Angeles, spending countless hours observing office visits, reviewing surgeries, and looking at scans alongside ENT surgeons and their patients. Pairing this clinical knowledge with her musical background shaped a unique approach using singing and resonance training. Doctors referred patients in need of support when their speech pathology ended, and she credits those early years with focusing her attention on what would become her life’s work.

Not only does Valerie coach some of the greatest singers, broadcasters, and actors in entertainment, but she is a producer and behind-the-scenes architect of major tours, working with music directors and front-of-house teams to optimize vocals quickly and minimize live performance challenges. Her technique bridges classical and contemporary styles, an approach she developed because singers often

need to move safely between traditional, pop, and rock genres. She has built a reputation as an objective insider embedded in the highest levels of music, yet beholden to no label, manager, or agenda. Her loyalty is to the singer and only the singer.

For decades, Valerie’s methods have helped “keep the instruments tuned” of Grammy winners, charttopping artists, hosts, and acclaimed actors, including Sam Smith, Olivia Rodrigo, Gracie Abrams, Sia, Britney Spears, Noah Cyrus, Alex Warren, Lainey Wilson, The Chainsmokers, 5 Seconds of Summer, Jeff Bridges, Jessica Chastain, Sally Hawkins, Avril Lavigne, Tom Ellis, Ryan Gosling, and Joe Buck. She worked with the entire cast of Nashville for seven years under T-Bone Burnett, then expanded into more television and film projects, including Lucifer, The Eyes of Tammy Faye, and The Shape of Wate r. Soon Valerie was inspired to write a book sharing her decades of experience to elevate the understanding of vocal coaching as an essential and specialized expertise.

Valerie wanted to share her professional knowledge and experience beyond her private studio and provide a comprehensive guide for vocalists to achieve career longevity. Her book, entitled A Better Voice: Straight from The Entertainment Industry Frontlines, cuts through the “smoke and mirrors” of the industry to get people confident and connected to their mind, body, and soul. She presents professional or aspiring artists with usable tools that combine body mechanics, mental and physical wellness, diet, and lifestyle practices. Her book aims to help singers understand that they are athletes as well as pop stars. Performers today are working harder than ever with social media demands, constant travel, press, and touring schedules. Valerie wants readers to recognize their limits, protect their health, and remember that they are human beings, not replaceable equipment. “You can restring a guitar. You can’t restring a voice,” she says.

Valerie believes singing is far more accessible than most people realize. She explains that only about two percent of the population is truly tone deaf. In other words, most people can learn to sing—it’s simply a matter of training, the right guidance, and a lot of patience. Valerie identifies red flags about professionalism and boundaries: Teachers should be trustworthy, respectful, and never use a client’s career for self-promotion. A good teacher makes a student feel safe; if something feels off, she urges singers to listen to that instinct.

What sets Valerie apart is a clinically informed method developed through years of collaboration with top surgeons. What drives her is the ability to help people. She evaluates the whole person: how they breathe, speak, move, think, and carry stress. This holistic assessment allows her to diagnose the underlying causes of strain or injury, giving individuals practical information to protect their voices through demanding schedules. Her mental health rituals—like breathing cycles, grounding practices, and tension-release techniques—calm the nervous system and lessen vocal fatigue.

Looking ahead, Valerie is focused on expanding her impact through education and innovation. She is a brand ambassador for the Better Voice Vocal Trainer, a device that helps singers and patients mend safely by encouraging correct vocal fold function. She also plans to grow her teaching team at her studio in Studio City, continue personally coaching artists, and bring more legitimacy to the vocal-coaching field by speaking out about misinformation and harmful techniques.

Featured with Valerie left to right: Ashton Irwin and Luke Hemmings from 5 Seconds of Summer, Ozzy Osbourne, Cailin Russo, Ryan Gosling, Noah Cyrus, Sam Smith, Daniel Seavey, and Derek Whibley from Sum 41

Married to her husband, Steven, for over 23 years, together they are raising 17-year-old twin boys who attend Agoura High and play varsity football. Their family moved to Calabasas seeking safety and a stronger community during the pandemic. She has been happy to discover how much her family loves the area and even more happy that her celebrity clients appreciate the peaceful surroundings when they make the drive to her home studio.

A sustainable entertainment career requires understanding the voice on all levels. Whether a performer is recovering from vocal damage, surgery, or seeking more consistency, her methods help rebuild vocals that are not only stronger but more authentic to the person behind them. Valerie not only helps artists find their sound—she’s rewriting the standard for how their voices are trained, protected, and celebrated. l

FROM SHAKESPEARE TO SYRAH

The husband-and-wife team behind Fuil Wines

For Matt and Carolina Espiro Jaeger, founders of Fuil Wines, winemaking is not just a business; it is the culmination of a 20-year love story that began long before they ever set foot in a vineyard as producers. Based in Los Angeles but rooted in the soil of Santa Barbara County, the couple has transformed their shared passion for storytelling and fine wine into a boutique label that bridges Old World tradition with California fruit.

A script written in wine

The couple’s journey began nearly two decades ago when they met as actors in a children’s Shakespeare production. While their early careers were defined by stage and screen—as actors and filmmakers— wine was the constant backdrop of their relationship. Their first date took place at a winery; they became engaged at a winery; and they eventually wed at Demetria Estate in the Santa Ynez Valley.

The pivotal shift from wine enthusiasts to winemakers occurred during the pandemic. For Matt’s birthday, Carolina organized a surprise trip

The brand’s philosophy focuses on minimal intervention, sourcing fruit from sustainably managed and organic vineyards.

to Los Olivos, where she arranged for him to assist at a winemaking facility. After a week of labor that began at dawn, Matt realized his true calling. With Carolina’s immediate support—she simply replied, “It’s about time,”—Matt pursued certification from UC Davis and interned with local winemaker Dusty Nabor to hone his craft.

The meaning of fuil

The name Fuil (pronounced “fool”) is a Gaelic word that translates to “blood,” “kin,” “land,” or “passion.” It honors Matt’s Irish heritage and serves as a double entendre for their “foolhardy” leap into the industry. The brand’s philosophy focuses on minimal intervention, sourcing fruit from sustainably managed and organic vineyards in the Santa Ynez Valley to create elegant, cool-climate wines.

A family effort

Today, Matt and Carolina operate Fuil Wines as a true partnership. Matt leads the winemaking, often spending harvest weeks working directly in the vineyards, while Carolina applies her filmmaking expertise to the brand’s visual storytelling and label design. Their portfolio includes two distinct personalities:

Fuil Black Label: Small-batch, boutique wines focused on structure and complexity.

Fuil White Label: Still small batch, boutique wines with a more approachable profile.

Through their Kindred Fuils Wine Club, they invite others into their journey, offering “behind the curtain” experiences like grape stomping and bottling.

For Matt and Carolina, Fuil Wines is more than a product—it is a living record of their shared history and a testament to the idea that “wine is the only work of art we can enjoy with all five senses.” You can learn more by visiting fuilwines.com. l

bubble. Hi, Shanesa I’m

Nestled in the pulse of 91302, the pace softens and our homes become our sanctuaries.

Welcome to a new season, 2026. A new rhythm. A softer, deeper kind of quiet luxury. Where life is lived beautifully. Designed by the voice inside where my art form begins. Where interior design becomes a language spoken through light, line, and materials.

Where the everyday is transformed into something intentional, soulful, and utterly livable. Design is a feeling. It’s the quiet precision where lines meet in balance. It is the spark of a painting that feels like a memory. It is the rhythm of a room where form embraces function without ever saying a word.

Maybe indulgence isn’t about more, but about meaning. Taste, texture, and togetherness aren’t luxuries. They’re designed. Built. Curated. From blueprint to brushstroke. Shanesa

Cadillac of Calabasas

Reveals the Bespoke, Handcrafted Celestiq

Hidden Hills resident and avid car collector Robert Blonstein has become one of the first owners of the new, ultra-exclusive Cadillac Celestiq, a hand-built electric sedan that marks Cadillac’s return to the apex of luxury automotive craftsmanship. Unveiled at a special event at Cadillac of Calabasas on November 6th, Blonstein’s bespoke vehicle is one of two publicly documented deliveries in California and is a striking example of the personalization available with the limited-production model.

Blonstein’s lifelong devotion to Cadillac stems from his youth, when he was exposed to the automotive classics of the 1920s and 1930s, including Cadillacs, Packards, and Duesenbergs. Blonstein explained that during this era, the Cadillac marque embodied the “American Dream” and the height of U.S. automotive aspiration. He explains that owning one signaled “wealth, prestige, and a benchmark for success.” Blonstein recalls when Cadillac’s bold slogan, “Standard of the World,” was supported by engineering that rivaled or surpassed top European luxury brands. His conviction that Cadillac’s resurgence would be a success led him to become one of the country’s first owners of the new Cadillac Celestiq, a vehicle he believes can help return the brand’s image to the pinnacle of global luxury vehicles. Billed as “The Most Advanced Cadillac Ever,” the

Celestiq buyer, Robert Blonstein, and Cadillac of Calabasas, General Manager, Rick Bilgrien

décor and center console and customized red and gray seating surfaces.

For Blonstein, the Celestiq represents more than just a car; it is about acquiring a tangible piece of the new era for American luxury vehicles that expertly merges innovative technology with a highly personalized, hand-built approach, typically found in exclusive European ultra-luxury brands. He is proud to add it to his collection of other Cadillacs that includes a very rare 1976 Cadillac Fleetwood Talisman and a 1992 Cadillac Brougham (both barn finds) and classics— for those collectors who appreciate the “last of the bigbody Cadillacs.” As deliveries proceed nationwide, each Celestiq is a unique expression of its owner’s individual taste. Blonstein’s one-of-a-kind vehicle will undoubtedly be a standout addition to both his personal collection and the Hidden Hills community. l

Cadillac Celestiq is the world’s first all-electric ultra-luxury sedan, representing over 275 patented and patent-pending technologies and executions. Each Celestiq is custom commissioned and hand-built to the owner’s specifications, so each car is a one-of-a-kind commission as Cadillac built its cars a century ago.

Blonstein’s ownership journey began in the new Cadillac of Calabasas showroom in 2022, and he became the dealership’s first customer. Amid pandemic-related shortages that made new Escalades difficult to acquire, his sights quickly became set on the even more exclusive Celestiq, prompting him to join the national waitlist. Blonstein’s patience paid off when Rick Bilgrien, the dealership’s executive manager and general manager, called to confirm his selection for one of the estimated 25 initial units built. This news thrilled Blonstein, marking the exciting start of his awaited Celestiq ownership experience.

Much of Blonstein’s two-year design process took place at GM’s Artisan Center in Warren, Michigan, where he worked directly with Rob Sanmartin, the concierge director for the Cadillac CELESTIQ program, and Erin Crossley, design director for Performance, Motorsport & Accessory and CELESTIQ at General Motors, to curate every detail, from custom exterior paint to unique interior details, materials, and finishes. Blonstein’s Celestiq boasts a 655 horsepower all-electric powertrain, adaptive all-wheel drive, active rear steering, magnetic ride control, and a raft of patented technologies, including available hands-free driver-assist technology. Its 111-kWh battery pack provides an estimated 303 miles of range, and it can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 3.7 seconds. Custom options that he chose include Rosewood Metallic finishes and a smart glass panoramic roof on the exterior. For the interior, Mr. Blonstein chose a customized highgloss herringbone wood design with sand-blast stripes on the seatback

Admiring the new car are, from left, brand specialist Alex Mollabagher, who sold the Celestiq to Blonstein; Cadillac Celestiq corporate representative Brandi Cole; Celestiq buyer Robert Blonstein; and Cadillac of Calabasas General Manager Rick Bilg rien

Rosenberger+ Kawabata

In the high-stakes arena of Southern California litigation, where billion-dollar corporations and complex regulatory webs often leave individuals and small businesses behind, two names have emerged as the gold standard for aggressive, ethical advocacy: Elliot Rosenberger and B. Makoa Kawabata. Practicing throughout California, this powerhouse duo has redefined what it means to be a “litigation pro” by combining the technical sophistication of a global firm with the relentless, personalized drive of a boutique practice.

A track record of decisive victories

The reputation of Rosenberger and Kawabata is built on a foundation of results that command attention. In 2024 alone, the firm secured landmark outcomes featured in the Daily Journal’s Top Verdicts, including a staggering $12.5 million judgment in a breach of contract action and a complete defense verdict in a high-profile defamation case.

Elliot Rosenberger, a UCLA School of Law graduate and former American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) fellow, is widely recognized for his mastery of local courts and strategic timeline management. His background— ranging from serving as co-editor-in-chief of the PIABA Bar Journal to volunteering for legal aid organizations—gives him a unique perspective that balances hard-nosed litigation with a deep commitment to his clients’ rights.

Elite global experience and local precision

Makoa Kawabata brings a level of experience typically reserved for the industry’s most veteran partners. Before co-founding the firm, Kawabata was a key member of the legal teams tackling some of the century’s most significant cases, including the Volkswagen “Dieselgate” scandal and the

Gold King Mine spill—both which dominated international headlines.

A tournament champion in moot court and trial advocacy, Kawabata has served as a trial attorney for over 20 jury trials, managing every aspect from voir dire to final judgment. His recognition as a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers consecutively from 2017 through 2026 underscores his status as a persistent leader in civil litigation.

Why they lead the pack

What truly distinguishes Rosenberger and Kawabata in 2026 is their versatility across both plaintiff and defense roles. Their expertise spans:

Business litigation: Representing and advising businesses and their owners in all types of legal matters, including workplace disputes, unfair competition, and trademark and copyright issues.

Investment losses: Recovering losses caused by negligent or unscrupulous financial advisors.

Consumer protection: Protecting consumers who were wronged by large corporations and debt collectors.

Clients describe the experience as one of total reliability, noting that the firm “drives the timelines and strategy” while remaining accessible and communicative. In an era where legal battles are often won through sheer endurance and technical precision, Elliot Rosenberger and Makoa Kawabata have proven they are not just participants in the Southern California legal landscape—they are its new vanguard. l

A Trusted Voice in Women’s Care:

Dr. Stephanie Mandelman

A boutique approach at Westlake Women’s Health Specialists

Women feel it instantly—the difference between a doctor rushing through a packed schedule and one who’s truly present, attentive, and makes room for their full story. At Westlake Women’s Health Specialists, Dr. Stephanie Mandelman delivers the latter, creating an individualized, relationshipdriven experience that feels intentionally intimate. “I chose private practice because I wanted women to feel known—not just treated,” she explains. “Every woman’s story is different. When you take the time to listen, you end up providing better care, better outcomes, and a far better experience.”

Where skill meets intention

Dr. Mandelman’s journey began with a standout academic foundation, graduating Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude from Clark University before earning her medical degree at Chicago Medical School. She completed her internship at UCLA and her OB/GYN residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, where she honed her clinical skills and confidence in demanding, high-volume environments.

Returning to Southern California in 1999, she launched her career in Long Beach—but by 2006, she felt compelled to build something different from the increasingly corporate structure of modern healthcare. That vision became Westlake Women’s Health Specialists—an independent, physicianled sanctuary where women can expect unhurried visits, direct access to their doctor, and care that evolves with them through every life stage. She is on staff at Los Robles Regional Medical Center, where she previously served as vice-chair of OB/GYN, and she maintains strong

relationships with nearby surgical centers to ensure seamless continuity of care.

Boutique care, real breadth

The moment patients step into Dr. Mandelman’s Westlake Village practice, they immediately feel at ease. A staff with a reputation for compassion and responsiveness and a thoughtfully designed, spa-like environment set the tone for an experience that prioritizes comfort as much as clinical excellence.

The practice offers full-spectrum care, including annual exams, contraception counseling, prenatal and postpartum support, screening and treatment for gynecologic conditions, minimally invasive procedures, and in-office ultrasounds.

“I chose private practice because I wanted women to feel known— not just treated.”

A rapidly growing area of the practice focuses on perimenopause and menopause—life phases where many women feel overwhelmed and overlooked. With hormone therapy, symptom tracking, and lifestyle-based support, Dr. Mandelman ensures that patients have

clarity. “Women often tell me they felt dismissed elsewhere,” she notes. “My goal is always to educate, explain options, and help them feel empowered in their own health decisions.”

Care that fits real life

At its heart, Westlake Women’s Health Specialists is a haven for women’s healthcare. Whether navigating a first pregnancy, managing complex gynecologic needs, or seeking guidance through perimenopause, patients find a trusted partner in Dr. Mandelman. She understands that women’s lives are busy, complex, and unpredictable. To meet those realities, her practice offers urgent same-day or next-day appointments, telehealth options for certain follow-ups, and flexible scheduling. Most major PPO plans are accepted, making care accessible to families throughout Calabasas, Westlake Village, and surrounding communities.

“In the end,” Dr. Mandelman shares, “women need a place where they can show up exactly as they are—and know they’ll be cared for. That’s why I do what I do.” l

Calabasas High School’s recent production of Twelfth Night brought Shakespeare’s beloved comedy vividly to life. Standout performances, sharp comedic timing, lively musical moments, and energetic physical comedy kept audiences engaged. Behind the scenes, the tech crew impressed the audience with seamless lighting, sound, and set transitions. The result was a joyful celebration of collaboration, proving Shakespeare remains funny, relatable, and endlessly entertaining.

Some stories arrive like a storm. Aiden’s story arrived like an earthquake, the kind that splits open the ground beneath you and forces you to see what truly matters. Marc and Dana Steiner are the loving parents of two young boys, 8-year-old Aiden and 6-year-old Landon, who live in Thousand Oaks.

Aiden is a child of light. The kind who loves without hesitation and laughs without armor. His smile doesn’t ask—it simply appears and changes the energy in the room. To know him is to feel something shift inside you, a reminder of innocence, connection, and the quiet power of joy.

When Aiden was small, life felt beautifully ordinary. Days were filled with scraped knees, bedtime rituals, family routines. Dana and Marc, like all parents, believed in time. They believed in growth, in tomorrow, in the slow unfolding of a future that felt secure.

At first, it seemed like nothing. Kids stumble. Kids wobble. But Aiden’s body began telling a different story, one his parents could not ignore. The answers didn’t come easily. Appointments turned into waiting rooms. Waiting rooms turned into fear. And finally, a diagnosis arrived that no family is ever prepared to hear: infantile neuroaxonal dystrophy.

Infantile neuroaxonal dystrophy (INAD) is a rare, genetic disorder causing progressive loss of motor, cognitive, and visual functions in young children. It is a terminal, devastating disease described as ALS and Parkinson’s disease combined. It is a relentless neurological disease that steals strength, speech, balance, and eventually breath itself.

Marc and Dana’s souls were shaken, and their future hope and dreams for their precious family collapsed in a single breath. But this is not a story about breaking. Because something extraordinary happened in the aftermath.

Dana and Marc chose to stand. Not because it was easy but because love demanded it. They did not deny grief; they carried it. And they turned it into a movement. A purpose. A fight.

Where others saw statistics, they saw urgency. Where others saw limits, they saw possibilities. And where others saw tragedy, they saw their son still there, still laughing, still teaching them how to be brave.

Gene therapy offers hope, but time is of the essence, and we hope our readers will rise up and be a part of this important fundraising effort.

They created Aiden’s A-Team to raise funds to benefit the INADcure Foundation. The INADcure Foundation was formed to fund scientific research for treatments and to find a cure for INAD and other forms of PLA2G6-related neurodegeneration (PLAN).

Giving Back

Aiden’s A-Team is not a symbol of loss but a declaration of hope. A community bound by action, by science, by belief that time can be stretched when people refuse to look away. Their mission is not abstract. It is personal. It is immediate. It is rooted in the belief that gene therapy can slow this disease and change what has never been changed before.

And through all of it, Aiden remains himself. He loves harder than most adults ever will. He forgives quickly. He meets each day with a presence that says: I am still here. He does not measure life by what is slipping away but by what still exists: connection, laughter, warmth, love.

Gene therapy offers hope, but time is of the essence, and we hope our readers will rise up and be a part of this important fundraising effort. This story asks for courage. It asks us to stand with a local family whose world has been shaken

but who refuses to collapse. It asks us to believe that hope is not fragile, that science is not finished, and that love is the strongest force any of us will ever know.

Aiden’s story is not ending. It is a calling, because sometimes, giving isn’t just charity—it’s choosing to help write the future.

Rare Disease Day

Rare Disease Day is observed annually on the last day of February. In 2026, it will take place on Saturday, February 28th.

It is a global movement that supports the 300 million people worldwide living with rare conditions, along with their families and caregivers, including INAD. Its primary goals include:

Raising awareness: Educating the public, healthcare professionals, and policymakers about the impact of the 7,000+ known rare diseases.

Advocating for equity: Driving a global call for equal social opportunities and equitable access to healthcare, diagnosis, and therapies.

Promoting research: Encouraging funding and collaboration to advance scientific challenges, develop new treatments, and find cures, as only about 5% of rare diseases currently have FDA-approved treatments.

Building community: Fostering solidarity and providing a platform for patients to share their stories and overcome the isolation often associated with rare diagnoses.

Join Aiden’s A-Team

Join the team to support The INADcure Foundation, a 501(c) (3) nonprofit working to find treatments and a cure for INAD and related PLA2G6 disorders.

The foundation, based in New Jersey, is leading promising research with key safety studies recently completed through Nationwide Children’s Hospital. An FDA investigational new

drug application has been submitted, with approval expected in the coming months— bringing a clinical trial one step closer.

Once FDA approval is granted and the remaining $1.5 million is raised, a trial with 10 children is planned to begin this year. Those who feel called to stand with Aiden and with every child waiting for hope can learn more or donate at aidensateam.com or follow his Instagram @Aidensateam24.

Donations can also be made directly to Aiden’s A-Team (AJS Foundation), a registered 501(c) (3) nonprofit based in California and recognized by the IRS under EIN 30-1428016. l

AIR FORCE ONE PAVILLION

Celebrates 20th Anniversary at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library

Imagine walking aboard the same Air Force One SAM 27000 that carried Presidents Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush. Twenty years ago, on October 24, 2005, the Air Force One Pavilion at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library opened its hangar doors and began welcoming visitors onto this legendary aircraft.

When President Reagan left office in 1989, he hoped that the Air Force One that he flew on could be a part of his presidential library when it was retired. SAM 27000 is the name of this 152-foot-long Boeing 707 aircraft that served the seven U.S. Presidents from 1972 to 2001, with Reagan flying more than any other, traveling to 26 countries and 46 states, and logging over 660,000 of its million global miles. It was informally known as the Flying White House and carried 52 passengers, including the President, senior staff, members of the press, 18 air-crew members, and the nuclear “football.”

Among the plane’s historic missions were President Nixon’s trip to the Middle East to meet Anwar Sadat, his somber final flight to California following his resignation, and President Carter’s journey after his presidency when Reagan invited him to go to Germany to greet 52 American hostages upon their release from Iran. On President Reagan’s iconic trip to Berlin, he delivered his stirring speech asking Mikhail Gorbachev to “tear down this wall.”

President George W. Bush and Laura Bush and guests look on as former first lady Nancy Reagan cuts ribbon at Air Force One Pavillion.

SAM 27000 made its last stop in Simi Valley. The preserved jetliner is parked within an airy glass enclosure overlooking 300 acres of protected open space. Visitors enter the pavilion at cockpit level and then can tour around, through, and under the plane. It is mounted at a 2-degree upward tilt, so it appears to be taking flight, a fitting tribute to Reagan’s enduring optimism that, as he said, “America’s best days are yet to come. Our proudest moments are yet to be. Our most glorious achievements are just ahead.”

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library is the most visited presidential library in the nation. Nearly 7 million visitors have boarded Air Force One, explored Marine One and the presidential motorcade, viewed artifacts from pivotal moments in modern history, and ate a snack at the relocated Ballyporeen Irish pub, which Reagan visited on a diplomatic trip. The library contains over 60 million pages of documents, 1.6 million photographs, tens of thousands of audio and video tapes, and over 62,000 artifacts. Over the years, the Air

Force One Pavilion has hosted five presidential debates, a congressional field hearing, international summits, and countless community programs, transforming Simi Valley into a meeting ground for global dialogue, civic engagement, and historical reflection.

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Air Force One Pavilion are a cornerstone of both national history and our local region, continuing to advance President Reagan’s principles, preserving the legacies of seven American presidents, and serving as a proud symbol for Californians. l

Cary on Camera in Cornell From War-Torn Poland to Calabasas...

At daybreak on September 1, 1939, airplanes overhead rattled the Polish countryside. Arabian horses on stud farms scattered across Janów Podlaski turned their heads as their trainers recognized dreaded enemy insignia. Miles away, German forces had voided a non-aggression pact and marched onto Polish soil. World War II had begun. The prized Arabian yearling Witez II was to be evacuated immediately.

Born with “a star of destiny” upon his forehead, Witez II entered the world far from obscurity on April 1, 1938. Word quickly flew that the exceptional mare, Federracja, had foaled a colt. Ofrir, Witez II’s sire, carried a remarkable pure-bred pedigree from over four centuries of selective breeding—with documents tracing his lineage back to Poland’s first Arabian horses obtained during the Polish-Ottoman War. Reasonably, breeders from acrossthe region traveled to marvel at the new arrival.

Witez’s legacy remains throughout 91302. Currently, Hidden Hills is home to Arabians direct from Witez II’s line. Arabian horse advertisement from 1964

As the white star shone brilliantly against the colt’s rich bay coloring, his owners chose the fitting name Witez II, meaning knight, chieftain and prince all rolled into one. Only a year into his life, as Nazi Germany became a serious threat to Poland, Witez II would fulfill the valiance of his title and begin his odyssey to the United States—ending in the foothills of 91302 at the notable Calarabia Ranch.

At the break of World War II, Russia installed troops in eastern Poland, backed by its German alliance which attacked from the other directions. Grief lingered with many stud farm staff who endured World War I, as they remembered the brutal decimation of their livestock. Witez II, who had become beloved not only for his athleticism in racing and show jumping but for his tender heart, was one of the hundreds of horses evacuated from the facility.

the Odyssey of the Great Arabian Horse Witez II

Through a vast maze of forests, fields, and marshes, horses and their handlers wandered, including Witez II and Stanislaw (Stasik) Kowalski, a son of the stud’s dairy farmer. In order to disguise Witez II’s valuable pedigree, Kowalski plastered the horse with mud and hitched him to a plow. In this pedestrian state, records from Linell Smith’s book, And Miles to Go, indicate that Witez II survived a number of interrogations by roaming foot soldiers.

German blitzkriegs rose in number. Witez II and Kowalski were forced to dodge bullets and bombs as they took cover in the woods. Despite fear and starvation, it is noted that the Polish Arabian’s steadfast and calm temperament was key to his survival. Gleaning signs that Russian forces had dwindled, Kowalski led Witez II on a dangerous return to the Janów Podlaski stud farm. But upon arrival, the German military overtook the property, and soon, Witez II was seized.

Intending to expand a “super horse” breeding program, the Germans transported Witez II to a facility in Czechoslovakia. But in the summer of 1945, the tide changed. Upon the Allies’ victory that September, Witez II was rescued by American forces under General Patton’s 3rd Army. Patton’s colonels contacted Kowalski, allowing the young man to reunite with Witez II before the stallion’s departure to the United States.

A US Merchant Marine cargo vessel, the Stephen Austin, transported Witez II, along with 120 horses, across the Atlantic. Upon his arrival on American soil, the bay stallion received an asterisk before his name, as *Witez II, to signify that he had been imported.

Alongside an official public showing on April 4, 1946, and a stay at the Remount Depot in Front Royal, Virginia, Witez II was placed under the care of W. K. Kellogg, the breakfast food magnate. Afterwards, Witez II traveled across the country to the Kellogg Ranch in Pomona, California. Following a brief transfer to Oklahoma, Witez II was purchased on auction by Earle and

Francis Hurlbutt for a whopping $8,100, a large sum at the time. The couple notably “fell in love at first sight” with the stallion.

At the Hurlbutt’s Calarabia Ranch in Calabasas, located in modern day Hidden Hills near Jed Smith Road, it is documented that Witez II lived a comfortable life, given free rein across the property’s sprawling hills. He further extended his progeny, siring such stallions named Natez, Nitez, and Witezam. Earle remained in contact with members of the Janów Podlaski farm, including stud assistant Liselotte Tarakus. In the meantime, Earle entered Witez II into a number of Arabian horse shows, where he won titles such as the Pacific Coast Champion Stallion class in 1953. Soon, the bay stallion garnered a number of fan clubs.

Witez II’s death on June 9, 1965, Francis added, “Most certainly, this horse [Witez II] has been Earle’s whole life; there was never another horse for him.”

Witez’s legacy remains throughout 91302. Currently, Hidden Hills is home to Arabians direct from Witez II’s line, including horses Soleil and Greyhawk, according to Nedra Johnson, owner of the Arabian Horse Riding Academy in Hidden Hills and Santa Ynez. In addition to teaching horseback riding classes which educate students on equitation as well as the temperament and value of Arabian horses, Johnson serves as an involved member preserving local equestrian history. Such residents demonstrate that maintaining the distinct spirit of 91302 in the here and now includes the active storytelling of our precious history. l

In a 1977 interview conducted by Dixie Ryan, Francis shared that Earle attended many of Witez II’s fan club nights, even showcasing special paintings of the prized stallion. Despite

The 2027 Ram TRX 1500

The 2027 Ram TRX 1500 has set the bar for performance trucks. Sporting a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 that churns out 777 horsepower and 680 lb-ft of torque, it delivers true supercar-level acceleration paired with gnarly, no-compromise off-road capability.

In a clear “hold my beer” moment, Ram has essentially taken a trophy truck and wrapped it in a package that can be driven daily. The TRX will out-accelerate most cars on the road and make Home Depot runs before heading straight to the desert to hammer out serious off-road adventures. I love this truck!

This truck really is the best of everything. Much like modern supercars that now offer the refinement and luxury of high-end

European sedans, the TRX delivers premium materials, massive screens, and an impressive amount of technology. A perfect balance of performance, luxury, and...adrenaline (can’t forget the adrenaline).

Ram absolutely nailed this truck. At a time when the industry is obsessed with electrification and fuel mileage, Ram chose to capture the heart and soul of the American sports car and truck enthusiast: more horsepower, more torque, and zero apologies about the fuel bill.

The 2027 Ram TRX 1500 remains a benchmark of excess done right. For more information visit ramtrucks.com. l

Romantic adventures in the land Down Under

Photography by Elissa & Lawrence Linick

Mix one part adventure, one part arts and culture, and two big parts of Down Under and you get one romantic getaway to incredible Australia.

My wife and I decided we needed to get away, way away. Since we’d never been there, Australia became our destination. But with only six weeks to plan, we needed to get it done quickly. After a whirlwind of highpaced online preparation and booking, fraught with many nervous decisions about where to stay, what to do, and how much to spend, we were ready to go.

We were reminded several times that “Australia is a continent,” and you can’t see or experience a whole continent in just a few weeks. So, we focused on two places: Sydney and Cairns (pronounced “Cans”). Each place got about a week of our time.

Sydney is a vast city with a variety of interesting neighborhoods. Right off our flight, we headed straight to the Circular Quay (pronounced “Key”) to take in the views of the iconic Harbor Bridge and the inimitable Sydney Opera House. A nice long walk along the sea wall brought us to Ms. McQuarry’s “Chair” in the heart of the Royal Botanical Gardens.

Past the Circular Quay, we stopped at the famous “Rocks” district, home to English-style pubs and many quaint shops featuring typical Australian gifts—like didgeridoos, boomerangs, and kangaroo-skin hats.

Our first-day excursion took us 90 minutes west of town to the Blue Mountains. This is a natural wonder, a river-carved gorge like the Grand Canyon but with mindwarping shifts in terrain from arid rock outcroppings to semi-tropical rainforests to grassy plains and farm fields. In the “Blues,” the local nickname for the Blue

Mountains, we held hands, scrambled over boulders, and gazed in wonder across the vast canyons. We learned so much about what makes the whole continent unique. Australia is home to an ancient terrain, formed and isolated millions of years in the past and populated by hundreds of species of eucalyptus trees and a strange array of marsupial animals that live nowhere else on earth.

Another day was spent at one of Sydney’s many long and incredibly beautiful beaches. We chose Manly Beach and took a spectacular ferry ride across the harbor to get there, past its opening and tucked under the northern headlands. A favorite spot near Manly is Ferry Bowers, a small rocky cove past the beach. There, we chatted with locals and dined overlooking the scenic shoreline. I also put on a snorkel and mask and dove under the waves to find a sumptuous world of semi-tropical sea life like no other.

At night, we strolled through festive neighborhoods from Barangaroo to Surrey Hills, marveling at the bright neon-lit game rooms lining the streets of Chinatown. We sampled some of Sydney’s best fare, dining on a huge lobster imported from Tasmania, trying the famous rock oysters, and even experimenting with kangaroo tartar—which was surprisingly mild and delicious.

Another excursion took us south past Botany Bay and toward Wollongong. There, we looked out over cliffs famous for hang-gliding and across white sand beaches. We continued inland to a quaint wine-growing region to sample some of New South Wales’s finest wines.

We spent another day locally, exploring Sydney’s Newtown neighborhood, known for its quirky style

and ubiquitous street art. As art lovers, we were not disappointed. The walls of many buildings were covered with massive murals— some planned and some graffiti-ed, exploding with vivid colors and lively images.

On our final night in Sydney, we saw the Australian Ballet’s rendition of Sleeping Beauty. Dressing in style, we strolled along the Circular Quay once again, enchanted by the lights of the Harbor Bridge and the glowing white shells of the Opera House, an architectural marvel with its unusual, arched structures and complex vaulting. Once seated, the ballet began, and it felt like a waking dream from the first note until the last ovation. Sydney’s world-class ballet company—combined with unparalleled musicians, remarkable sets, and colorful costumes in that world-renowned venue—created the highlight of a lifetime. Our week in Sydney was soon up, but the city had left an indelible mark on our hearts. Although we didn’t make it to Bondi, news reached us after returning home of the heartbreaking incident there. It stood in quiet contrast to the Sydney we experienced—a city filled with warmth, laughter, and kind-hearted faces from around the world. Sydney is a gathering spot of diverse cultures, a welcoming location brimming with proud locals eager to show you the best of their home.

Next, we headed to the far north Queensland city of Cairns. This is a launching point into the Great Barrier Reef. Our stay included a magical aerial tramway, gliding above the rainforest treetops and across Baron Falls to Kuranda, returning to Cairns via one of the most scenic railways in the world. We spent two magical nights at the tiny Green Island Resort in the middle of the Reef. The accommodations were over the top, and the views and instant access to the Reef were spectacular. There, in tropical Australia, we encountered an entirely different array of strange and wonderful wildlife.

A few highlights from Green Island include holding hands and swimming beside a Hawksbill turtle in the Reef. Despite some concerns about the health of the Reef, we found it to be a vibrant natural wonder abounding with every imaginable species of coral, fish, and sea creature. On our last night in the Reef, we had our resort prepare a sunset dinner for us on the beach, where we were greeted by a baby green turtle flapping nearby in the surf. With our toes in the wet, white sand of the Great Barrier Reef at sunset, we embraced, kissed, and toasted to our enduring love that made this all possible. What a gift of culture and nature that we were able to give ourselves and share together on our romantic getaway Down Under. l

Designing a Pool With Purpose From Luxury to Lifestyle:

A pool isn’t just a luxury feature; it becomes part of everyday life. A pool has the potential to anchor the backyard, create a place to gather, and support both relaxation and wellness. But before construction begins, there are a few important considerations that can make the process smoother and the results more successful.

Good pool projects start with thoughtful planning. Beyond choosing finishes and the shape, it’s important to think about grading, drainage, access for construction, equipment placement, safety requirements, and long-term maintenance. Many of the challenges homeowners face during construction come from details that weren’t discussed early enough.

Getting permits and zoning approval are other key steps. Most cities require approved plans, inspections, and setback compliance, and some neighborhoods require HOA approval as well. Utility lines, septic systems, easements, and property boundaries all influence what’s possible, and confirming both legal and practical feasibility early on is essential.

Placement in the yard matters just as much as design. A pool should feel integrated with the home, views, and landscape rather than simply “added in.” Sun exposure, privacy, circulation paths, existing trees, and how the space will be used all play a role. Often, the most successful pools are not the largest ones but the ones that feel proportionate and thoughtfully positioned.

Homeowners are sometimes surprised by how technical pools really are. Lighting design, coping material, water depth, heating systems, and even the color of the interior finish all affect comfort, safety, and long-term care.

So, is a pool worth it? For many families, the answer is yes. A well-designed pool can enhance daily living, support healthy routines, and create meaningful gathering spaces. With clear planning and realistic expectations, the process becomes much more enjoyable and the finished result feels like a natural extension of the home. THE Art of REAL ESTATE

As we look ahead to 2026 in Calabasas, the local housing market is expected to continue its reputation for high-end desirability with thoughtful price stability rather than dramatic swings.

Market experts project that California home prices overall will experience modest upward movement in 2026 as lending conditions ease slightly and buyer confidence improves. While stronger affordability gains are gradual, Calabasas, with its prestigious schools, lifestyle appeal and limited inventory – is expected to maintain value and buyer interest through 2026.
