ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PROJECT YEAR: 2021 Fall CO-AUTHORS: Rudolf Nikerle, Gaini Sagidullayeva LOCATION: Mosul, Iraq Politecnico di Milano: THEMATIC STUDIO PROFESSOR: Chizzoniti Domenico Giuseppe , Cisler Ondrej, Preis Luca

The city of Mosul is on its knees, badly destroyed by the war. Thousands of displaced people live in camps outside of the city with a huge desire to see once again Mosul in its habitable condition. The project is the testfield to try to answer the question of how can architecture play a role in supporting a traumatized population in a post-conflict city? The goal of the project is to start the process of reintegration and cohesion of society.

Architecture has the opporutunity to look at the postconflict place from a spatial perspective: building sense of belonging, empowerment of community and active participation of the people. During a conflict, entire generation of children lost years of education. This leads to the phenomenon of so called “lost generation”. It is no coincidence that Islamic State used children as the ultimate weapon. For this reason Education is fundamental

In the thematic studio we are choosen to work on Mosul Primary School project. The site is located along one of the main roads of the city Al Shaziani street, right opposite to the Graet Al-Nuri Mosque (the most iconic building). Our approach to the project is to create Contextualized architecture to avoid population rejection and exploit the identity power of memory connected to the city and its heritage, instead of creating a monumental gesture. Our design strategy is to consider the building as a solid mass, which is extracted by different types of courtyards. Courtyards are the most dominant typology of Mosul, widely used for residential purposes. The project follows the similiar logic of the context, regular shapes of courtyard, opposing to irregularity of buildings itself. There is a huge contrast between street of Mosul and its courtyards. Courtyards are the spaces of cohesion and life. Therefore courtyards become the essential element of our project. The architectural quality is achieved by heirachy of spaces, level of privacy and experience of athmospheres.

CITY AUDITORIUM FOR LORETO OF MILAN PROJECT YEAR: 2020 Spring LOCATION: Piazzale Loreto, Milan, Italy

Politecnico di Milano: ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN STUDIO PROFESSOR: Tamburelli Pier Paolo

02

The project deals with the renovation of Piazzale Loreto in Milan. Piazzale Loreto is the entrance to Milan, around which some of the most dynamic neighborhoods in the city gravitate. However, Piazzale Loreto is also a rather ugly place: nothing more than an automobile junction surrounded by buildings without any architectural value. Without forcing owners to renovate façades or even rebuild entire buildings, this project radically rethinks the space of the central void.

This auditorium aims to solve the problem not only with its function but also with its abstract shape. Instead of putting a “real” from building on the place of roundabout I decided to make the roundabout act as an abstract artpiece exhibition platform. The inclined concrete box shape of the main hall and curvilinear shape of the secondary halls and serving functions come together to make the building act as an artpiece. Also the inclination of the structures give us the clue about the underground life-metro.

PROJECT YEAR: 2020 LOCATION: Amirjan, Baku, Azerbaijan Project type: Competition

Amirjan

Baku

Amirjan Settlement was the most interesting of the three settlements mentioned in the competition. With its ancient history and natural resources, this area has great potential in the field of architecture and urban planning. The location of the settlement on the edge of the water basin (Lake Bulbula) was an important factor that should not be overlooked. Considering that the people of the cities and settlements connected with the water basins have a more positive aura lifestyle, I noticed that this will have the same impact on the people of Amirjan in the future. Why in the future, because now it was clear that Lake Bulbula needed "rehabilitation". However, in the scenario I created for the project, there was no need to hurry to the lake. The moment when the settlement is reunited with nature is irreplaceable, but the idea of how it came here and what other charms these roads can give us is equally important. The idea of a historical line is connected with this.

This lake, which is the end point of the Historic Line project, also covers a very important part of it. After the sanitary systems in the lake are solved and cleaned, the Lake Park will be built here. The park has a second axis perpendicular to the Historic Line. This axis is a bicycle path that will completely cover Lake Bulbula in the future. This lake, which is the end point of the Historic Line project, also covers a very important part of it. For this purpose, it is planned to use red LED light accessories, which can be used in a more abstract shaped pool, reminiscent of pomegranates. The reflection of these lights in the water will be reminiscent of Sattar's Impressionist painter.

SAN CRISTOFORO RAILYARD RENOVATION PROJECT PROJECT YEAR: 2019 Fall

LOCATION: San Cristoforo, Milan, Italy Politecnico di Milano: URBAN DESIGN STUDIO PROFESSOR: Briata Paola Giseppina, Di Vita Stefano

The territorial context of Milan has been applied in order to understand the urban scale of Milan with respect to the transect between San Cristoforo and Porta Romana. This has been done so that the analysis of the transect does not seem isolated and is in relation with the whole of Milan. An analysis of the existing public transit along with the ecological layout of the city has been studied. Due attention has been paid to the existing Masterplans namely PGT 2019, Planning Agreement for Railyards 2017, Re-opening of Navilgi canals etc.

SUSTAINABLE FACULTY EXTENTION:

FACULTY BUILDING FOR MECHATRONICS ENGINEERING LOCATION: Bilkent University Campus, Ankara, Turkey

PROJECT YEAR: 2018 Spring Bilkent University ARCH 402: Architectural Design Studio VI PROFESSOR: Yigit Acar

Understanding Site The site of the project is the surroundings Of Bilkent pond, Ankara, Turkey. Since Bilkent University is Located inbetween METU and Hacettepe campuses, having a connection between those universities was the first idea that came to mind. After getting detailed analysis and research the site.It was decided to be designed as a smart . university campus inbetween the main campus and east campus, which, has a huge potential for becoming an interconnecting one. Since, Bilkent University is located inbetween METU and Hacettepe campuses, having a connection between those universities was the first idea that came to mind. However, after the character of the new campus was thought in a detailed way and decided to be a smart and technological one which is going to be designed both with smart technologies and services for the progress of it, the connection between it and METU's Teknokent was the finalized decision. Two campuses were connected by a new monorail line.

Since the campus is going to have "smart" faculties, the buildings ofthose faculties need also be designed in a smart way. Urban rainwaterquide was controlled by Bioretention Swale. Bioretention swales areshallow, vegetated, landscaped depressions with sloped sides. Theyare designed to capture, treat and infiltrate stormwater runoff as itmoves downstream.

The Formation of the Campus Plan The site itself can be defined in two parts. The immediate surroundingof the pond is the least constructed area with natural features while thecampus part of the site gets developing to the south of the site withhuge constructions. This division is defined by a bridge which connectsthe main campus with east campus while forming the spine of the campus

The building derived it shape from the abstraction of a machinery engine geometry

After finishing site analysis and site planning part individual section started. In this section I chose todesign a Faculty Building for Mecathronics Engineering. Since self driving cars working with sun energyis a hot topic of today's world, to put a contribution to this topic was my concern. As the campus is aboutbeing technological and sustainable, this building would be highly related to the concept. This building is gping to have facilities for both education and production. Students will have a chance topractice their education by designing prototypes on the production library.. And afterwards, the producedcars will be tested on the car parkour located on the top of the hill and will be exhibited inside of the galle-ry space.

CAPPADOCIA RETREAT AND EXPLORATION CENTER PROJECT YEAR: 2017 Fall LOCATION: Cappadocia, Neshehir, Turkey Bilkent University ARCH 401: Architectural Design Studio V PROFESSOR: Glenn Terry Kukkola

Getting closer to the project site: Cappadocia, Turkey A housing construction project has unearthed this biggest hidingplace ever found in Cappadocia,a region of central Turkey famous for the otherworldly chimney houses, cave churches, and under-ground cities its residents carved for millennia. This project is aiming to get closer to the site understand it with all of its features and conserve it by proposing some useful functions on it which arenot qoing to harm the site but also will help it live and become a social integration space.Since the site is a conservation area, it need more attention and sensitive treatment compared to aregular site. Thus, in order to grasp all the features of the site and get in touch with it both physicallyand spiritually we as the ARCH 401 group went to t the for the site analysis. Thanks to the caves located on the site, we would not construct anywhere we want. The buildableareas of the site were less compared to the conserved ones. So our group decided to treat to the sitewith the 'metaphor of islands'We defined buildable areas as islands, and conserved areas as sea.

RETREAT UNIT CLUSTERS Retreat Units of Cappadocia were designed individually by me. 3 unit types came toqether to create one cluster. The units qet smalle rwhile the topography is getting stipper. The units were designed by 'adding carving 'methodology of caves structure. Two blocks were of different functions attached to a conc-rete curved wall. One of the blocks is serving for sleeping and the other one is for living and eating area. The units were designed so that to get little daylight inside in order to get serenity atmosphere of the caves inside.
