Niederdorf is part of Zurich’s Old Town and is located on the right bank of the Limmat. Similarly to the Limmatquai, which runs parallel, it is a pedestrian zone. During the day, the many little stores and boutiques tucked away in the narrow side streets invite passers-by to browse. In the evenings, Niederdorf is transformed into an entertainment district for a diverse crowd with restaurants, bars, theaters and concert venues.
Always worth a visit: the impressive museum building is more than a century old and reminiscent of a fairy-tale castle. It houses the largest collection of historical cultural artifacts in Switzerland, spread across this building and the stunning annex by architects Christ & Gantenbein. Temporary exhibitions on socially relevant topics are held several times a year.

This work of art, completed in 1967 by Le Corbusier, is a real architectural gem: it was the last building constructed by the prominent French-Swiss architect, designer and artist and is his only work made completely of glass and steel. The colorful house also allowed Le Corbusier to make his vision of the synthesis of architecture, life and art a reality.
The Uetliberg rises high above the city’s rooftops to an altitude of 2,857 ft (871 m) above sea level. From the summit, you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view over the city and the lake all the way to the Alps. In the summer, the Uetliberg is a departure point for many hiking and mountain biking trails. The Uetliberg can be reached in around 20 minutes by S-Bahn 10 from Zurich Main Station. The train runs every half hour from platforms 21/22.

According to legend, Charlemagne discovered the graves of the city’s saints, Felix and Regula, on this spot. He had a church built in their honor: the Grossmünster. In the 16th century, the Grossmünster became the center of the Reformation under Zwingli. Highlights include Sigmar Polke’s agate stone window, the crypt from 1107 and the Karlsturm, which you can walk up. Please note: until 2028, maintenance work will lead to restrictions.

At Bürkliplatz, the square by the lake basin, there’s always something going on. It might be fresh produce, flea markets, street art, boat cruises, people fishing and swimming, or one of a variety of fairs and festivals. In the winter, the lakeside promenade, offering superb views of the snow-covered Alps, is a popular place for a stroll. Roasted chestnuts and hot chocolate or mulled wine keep stomachs and hands warm. Numerous boats offering round trips on the lake are moored at Bürkliplatz all year round.

Kunsthaus Zurich Thanks to its extension, designed by David Chipperfield, the Kunsthaus is now the largest art museum in Switzerland. Connected by an underground passageway, the two buildings now display one of the most eminent art collections in Switzerland, comprising works by Old Masters, Impressionists and Expressionists alongside famous Swiss artworks by Fischli/Weiss, Pipilotti Rist and Alberto Giacometti.
St. Peter’s is the oldest parish church in Zurich. The original foundation walls dating from the ninth century can still be seen under the chancel. The city’s first mayor, Rudolf Brun, acquired St. Peter’s in 1345, along with all the associated privileges and obligations. His grave and monument can be found by the outer tower wall. The clock face on the tower measures 28.5 ft (8.7 m) in diameter. The tower contains five bells dating back to 1880. The largest weighs over 6.6 tons (6,000 kg) without its clapper.
