Backyard or professional greenhouses reduce the impacts of adverse weather, and can grow crops almost year-round.
5
Thermal insulation cuts heat and energy losses, sometimes in half, lowers heating bills, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions and pollutants.
6
This simple technology increases household water availability in arid conditions.
7
Drip irrigation reduces water use, sometimes by half compared with traditional methods, and increases yields.
8
Using the sun for cooking, for warming food and for drying fruit reduces other energy use and costs.
9
Heating water with the sun reduces other energy use, costs and increases comfort.
10
Energy-efficient stoves and biogas units reduce the use of fossil fuels, cut greenhouse gas emissions and can complement organic fertilizer supplies.
11
Organic fertilizers from composting increase crop yields and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
12
Trees can provide food and wood, diversify crops and income streams, contribute to pollination and protect against erosion.
13
As native trees resistant to heat and dry conditions, pistachios protect soils, stabilize mountain slopes and absorb carbon. They can also generate good income and last 200 years with due care.
14
Combining various local sources of energy production into mini-grids and switching to natural gas can improve energy security, reduce emissions and cut costs.
15
Sorting waste, reducing kitchen and garden waste, and recycling plastics, paper, and metals help combat climate change. Preventing the open burning of waste improves air quality.
16
Hydrometeorological services in the mountains in coordination with disaster and local authorities can significantly reduce risks and damage from mudflows and floods.
17
Forest shelter belts and early storm warnings reduce storm damage.
18
Specialized hydrometeorological services warn drivers of weather hazards, reduce traffic accidents and support the reliable delivery of goods and passengers.
19
Consideration of heatwaves and extreme weather alerts outdoor workers and vulnerable groups to take precautions, and prevents or reduces fire risks.
20
The consideration of climate parameters in the design of buildings makes homes comfortable and climate-proof, and reduces maintenance costs.
21
Taking climate and weather information into account in planning and maintaining greenhouses and modern agriculture reduces risks and increases profits.
22
Weather in the mountains can change dramatically, and pasture vegetation can be sparse.
23
To reduce the risk of losing their herds and to improve their grazing outcomes, pastoralists should take forecasts of weather and pasture conditions into account.
24
Making reliable seasonal water forecasts is hard, but taking appropriate measures in light of these forecasts generally reduces crop losses and improves water security in dry years.
25
Agrometeorological observations, forecasts and consultations help farmers make decisions, and improve food security at the national level.
26
When planning winter holidays, checking for snow conditions and avalanche risk is a good idea. For skiing businesses, such information is crucial for planning the maintenance of infrastructure.
27
Hydrometeorological services not only provide weather forecasts, useful for planning summer holidays, but also monitor water quality.
28
Дышать нечем!
Hydrometeorological services monitor air quality in urban areas and near industrial facilities, and make forecasts of conditions that contribute to the accumulation of pollutants.
29
Hydrometeorological services monitor water quality in numerous rivers and water bodies. They analyze water quality and assess human impacts.
