As your Hospitality Chairwoman for almost two years, I can honestly say this role still excites me every single day. Welcoming new Members, seeing fresh sign-ups, and watching our community grow continues to bring me joy.
In every country I’ve lived in, joining a woman’s club was always the very first thing I did, as it gave me a sense of belonging and made adjusting to a new environment so much easier Now, in this beautiful Club, I feel the same sense of connection and it fills me with pride to help others experience it too.
When I call and talk to you, I love hearing your stories
Some of you just arrived and jump into Club life with both feet while others have only recently discovered us after living here for years. No matter your path, we are all here for the same reason- to connect with like-minded women and build friendships that last a lifetime
One of my favourite suggestions for getting involved is our weekly Stammtisch, which continues to be a very popular way to meet new people in a relaxed setting. You can also join one of our local coffee mor nings in Ägeri, Cham, or Walchwil, a Cheeky Cocktail evening, or monthly lunches and dinners for a relaxed day or night out These gatherings are informal, welcoming, and a great way to feel at home
I also listen carefully to your interests and the activities you’d love to try I am always happy to guide you toward one of our many interest groups- there is truly something for everyone!
As you read this, the year is slowly coming to a close, and I am excited about our upcoming festive events. Our Seasonal Evening is retur ning in November, this year with a fresh twist of cheese raclette and wine, and our Samichlaus Brunch also retur ns in December, a beloved tradition that promises to be a highlight once again

Thank you for all your trust in me as your hospitality Chairwoman; it is a privilege to connect with you, support you, and welcome you into our community.
With warmest wishes,
Fanny Van Dyck Hospitality Chairwoman

On 4 September 2025, we teed off for the very first edition of the ZIWC Charity Golf Tour nament, and what a memorable debut it was! With a wonderful mix of golfers and clinic participants, a stunning course in Meggen, and a good cause at the heart of it all, the day was a shining success despite the heavy rain.

From the start, the atmosphere was buzzing. Yes, the weather was challenging, but spirits stayed high golfers joked that the real winners were those who had packed a change of underwear! Meanwhile, the clinic participants embraced their session with enthusiasm, making the most of the extended 110 minutes of expert guidance This blend of competition and lear ning created an atmosphere where everyone, regardless of skill level, felt included and encouraged. Several who had only just started golfing are already looking forward to joining again next year, a sure sign that we’ve created something very special.
Of course, no tour nament is complete without a few shining stars. The brutto and netto winners were Mathijs and Betsy, who also claimed the longest drive titles for men and women. Bill impressed with his accuracy, taking home the prize for “nearest to the pin.” The balance of good-humoured rivalry and encouragement for beginners made the day especially enjoyable

After the last putts were sunk and the clinic wrapped up, everyone gathered for a lively apéro and a delicious dinner The hospitality at Golf Meggen and Gasthaus Badhof ensured participants were well cared for, with excellent food and a warm atmosphere.
The evening’s highlights were the prize ceremony and the charity raffle, filled with generous prizes donated by sponsors including VICTORINOX, Stanserhor n Bahnen, Ibach Sattel Hoch-Stuckli, Shed Wine AG – Zug, In Good Company Gifts, Baarer Brewery, Etter Distillery, JCI Switzerland & Villars Golfclub, and our very own Member Virginie, who provided wines for several prizes Thanks to their generosity — and the support of all participants — the event raised over CHF 1,400 for our chosen charity, Frauenhaus Luzer n.
A heartfelt thank-you also goes to Meggen Golfclub, whose support and collaboration were essential in bringing this first edition to life.
As the evening closed, participants left with tired feet, full hearts, and smiles that said it all. This was more than just a tour nament; it was a day of friendship, connection, and purpose We are already looking forward to hosting the 2nd ZIWC Charity Golf Tour nament in 2026 - and we can’t wait to see this tradition grow.
My connection to Zug began in 2005, when I found my first place here after a few years of visiting I was instantly drawn to the charm of the city and the picture-perfect “Heidiland” landscapes surrounding it. The people were kind, polite, and deeply welcoming it felt like stepping into a dream
At the time, I was working for a trading company in Geneva and commuting regularly But slowly, Zug began to feel more like home When my son was bor n here, that pull became even stronger. I wanted him to grow up lear ning Swiss German, rooted in the local culture.
In 2009, I joined the ZIWC to start building a local network. My Swiss German was still a work in progress, and I found the ZIWC to be an incredible space to feel connected, meet inspiring women, and create a sense of community in a new chapter of life.
Today, I run my own coaching and training business work that I find deeply meaningful and energising. And while I still travel often and work full-time, I’ve come to truly appreciate the balance that living here offers In particular, I feel such a sense of peace and ease when I’m at home in Walchwil. It’s the kind of relaxed, grounded feeling that supports both my personal life and the work I do with others.

To this day, I’m continually impressed by the variety of activities available to ZIWC Members there’s truly something for everyone. Although I still work full-time and travel often, I especially enjoy the Business Network and some of the dinner-based social events. One day, I hope to make it to the walking group too! As an art lover, I’m also thrilled there’s a group dedicated to art appreciation though unfortunately, most of their activities fall during the week when I’m unavailable.
I have so many favourite places in Switzerland Vevey-Montreux in the summer, the stunning Ticino region, and of course the rich history and culture of cities like Lucer ne, Basel, Ber n, and Gruyères. Every cor ner offers something unique, local, and worth exploring.
Lastly, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the President, the Board, and all the Interest Group Chairs. Your commitment and energy make ZIWC the vibrant, welcoming space that it is. You’re doing a remarkable job and it doesn’t go unnoticed.

There’s a scent that signals winter’s arrival in Switzerland: the warm, sweet aroma of roasting chestnuts wafting through crisp air. The simple pleasure of a paper bag of chestnuts, hot, slightly charred and buttery, is an irresistible, comforting ritual that ties moder n life to centuries-old tradition
Roasted chestnuts (heisse Marroni) appear everywhere as vendors set up wooden stalls and sell to passers-by The custom has deep roots Chestnuts have been cultivated in souther n Switzerland since Roman times, prized as a reliable food source in alpine valleys where grain was scarce
By the Middle Ages, chestnut groves were valuable communal assets; their nuts sustained families through long winters and featured in breads, soups and cakes. The practice of roasting chestnuts in public grew over centuries into a convivial street tradition, particularly during autumn and winter fairs In the 19th and early 20th centuries, roving chestnut sellers, often women using portable grills, became familiar figures in towns across the country
Today’s chestnut stalls maintain this nostalgia Whether part of a winter market or on a side street in town, grabbing a bag during after noon errands or sharing one with friends between market stalls is a healthy, warming pleasure whilst enjoying the seasonal bustle.
Whether you sample them on a street in Zug or in a Christmas market stall, roasted chestnuts deliver more than flavour: they’re a delicious thread connecting present comforts to the enduring rhythms of Swiss life.

Gottlieb Duttweiler was bor n in 1888 into a family dominated by women and was a charming, woman’s man. He had several failed business ventures before he launched the Migros, aiming at thrifty housewives. In 1924, times were hard and he couldn’t find a job, so he had the idea of a travelling shop He acquired permission to start in Zürich, raised some capital and on 25 August 1925, the first 5 Model-T trucks set out with six basic products: sugar, pasta (Hör nli), coffee, rice, coconut fat and salt. The aim was “big tur nover, modest margins, fresh goods”, directed at the housewife who had to count her pennies Although Switzerland was becoming industrialised through the expansion of the textile and watch industries and whilst tourism flourished, few benefitted; families had to spend half their income on food. Eventually, Migros vans expanded all over Switzerland Waiting in the queue was a good opportunity to get to know neighbours and have a gossip The last van to close its mobile offering was in Oberwallis in 2007 and they were much missed, especially in outlying areas. It is a little-known fact that a fleet of 85 Migros vans sold goods in Berlin in 1932 until the Nazis put a stop to them a year later Meanwhile, Duttweiler, not the smallest of men, drove around in a Topolino!
All his professional life, Duttweiler fought against the status quo, supported by his loyal wife Adèle, his adviser, his critic and his conscience, and she carried on this role in the Migros for the 30 years she outlived her husband. Duttweiler shook up the prevailing retail market, fighting the traditional sales models and cartels. He even founded a political party, the LDU, and was a Nationalrat for 24 years His forceful character and temperament brought him many enemies in Ber n and more conservative areas.
As an innovator, Duttweiler, faced with expensive brands whose producers refused to reduce prices, bought factories and produced his own imitations Eimalzin was Migros’ Ovaltine, Kaffee Zaun was the cheaper version of Kaffee Hag and Mivella copied Rivella. This would be impossible today and at the time, Duttweiler was often sued. However the products, which were cheaper in price but not inferior in quality, prevail to this day, where the Migros brands are now sold alongside the more expensive originals. The M-Budget and Selection brands offer the range of the cheaper to more exclusive goods. The statutes of Migros have always forbidden the sale of alcohol and tobacco In 2022, Migros members (Genossenschafterinnen) voted against a suggestion to sell alcohol, and the resulting ‘Non’ vote was used to promote a non-alcoholic beer.

The first Migros shop opened in Zürich in 1926 and sold 48 products, including fresh fruit and potatoes. A cigar box served as a ‘till’ The first Migros supermarket was opened in Zürich in 1948 with wire baskets with which to shop nylon stockings (a sensation!) The first Zug branch was opened in 1957 on Baarerstrassse 11 and was the most moder n in Switzerland.

In the 1950s, small local businesses saw their livelihoods threatened and people who shopped at the Migros were often frowned upon Migros branches in less-populated streets achieved more sales tur nover as people didn’t want to be spotted shopping there locally! Eventually, there arose the cult of the ‘Migroskind v. Coopkind’: you shopped in either the Migros or the Coop (formerly Konsum), reflecting your social position. According to this sketch by Gabriel Vetter, this is the real ‘Röstigraben’ in Switzerland. youtube.com/watch?v=lrYb4Frf6co
Duttweiler questioned capitalism and championed the free market economy, which he believed should serve the people. These were not just empty words: in 1948, he founded the Migros Klubschule, enabling education for poorer people; teaching languages, then crafts, then sports. Since 1957, the Migros Kulturprozent has donated 1% of tur nover to culture In 1940, Duttweiler converted his company into a cooperative (Genossenschaft), thus giving his life’s work to the people. The Migros now has 2.2 million Genossenschafter (cooperative members), who vote regularly on policy questions. Towards the end of his life, recognition of Duttweiler’s societal contributions grew and his funeral in the Zürich Fraumünster was attended by thousands. In its centenary year, the Migros has been retur ning to its core business of retail, selling off various of its enterprises in non-core areas eg Hotelplan The structure of the 10 regional organisations under the Migros umbrella remains. The Coop has become a tougher competitor and discounters such as Aldi and Lidl, initially underestimated, also challenge the supremacy of the Migros today.
• Every year, 330,000 people apply for a job in the Migros.
• The Migros is the biggest employer in Switzerland with almost 100,000 employees.
• The Migros product range encompasses 40,000 products.
• The sole chewing gum factory in Switzerland is run by the Migros Over 85% of production is exported
• In 1983, the Migros launched the M-Watch, a few days before Swatch. The M-Watch can be opened and repaired and to date, 7 million have been sold.
• Duttweiler supported women’s suffrage from the 1940s and during the war, he criticised Switzerland’s attitude towards refugees, supporting the film ‘Marie-Louise’ about a refugee girl, which was the first Swiss film to win an Oscar in 1946
• The Gottlieb Duttweiler Institute is Switzerland’s oldest think tank and researches trends.
• The Migros runs an observatory (Ster nwarte) up on the Gurten in Ber n, open on Tuesdays.
• The Kulturprozent finances parks in Vaud, Ber n, Basel and the nearest to us: Rüschlikon: the Park Im Grüne, where you can play, walk, barbecue and eat
• Some Migros stores have a ‘Plauderkasse’ where chatting to the cashiers is welcomed
• The Migros mountain Monte Generoso in Ticino has a cogwheel railway, and camping and there is a free ride on your birthday!
• The Migros Pioneer Fund supports new projects; maybe something for you? von0auf100 org/en/?gad source=1&gad campaignid=21662727835

The history of the foreign services is a male story (see July/August Connect!) - but only half of it Mothers, daughters, sisters, wives, aunts and cousins worked in the family payroll business, invested their own money, were co-owners and had inheritance rights.
The men recruited by Maria Jakobea Zurlauben (1658-1716) were supposed to be "handsome", tall men with a strong physique. "Des beaux hommes", as her brother Beat Heinrich Josef (1663-1706) used to say, ones with officer potential had to look good as bodyguards at the Sun King’s court. They came from all over; from central Switzerland, today's Aargau, the March, the Zurich countryside and easter n Switzerland, souther n Germany and even Bohemia They did not stay long Their accommodation and catering at the ‘Lowen’ in Zug was too expensive As soon as ‘Frau Hauptmannin’ Zurlauben had gathered a dozen people who had pledged to serve by accepting the hand money, she immediately sent the recruits, accompanied by armed soldiers, on their march westwards.
Maria Jakobea Zurlauben ran the office in Zug for many years and acted as a link to her brothers outside the country. There was a lot to do, especially in times of war, which were plentiful during the reign of King Louis XIV (1638-1715) Those willing to serve reported directly to the "Lady Captain" She also coordinated a network of recruiters who specifically recruited men Winter was a busy time. The companies' stocks had to be replenished in good time for the spring draft. To keep each other up to date, the siblings often sent one another several letters a week (in French, the language of the patrician families) with queries such as, "How many recruits did the companies still need?", "How many had deserted en route or had to be left behind in hospital?", "How much cash was still available to pay the pub bills, hand pay, wages for the recruiters, guides and messengers as well as the tobacco, clothes and new shoes for the recruits?". Incidentally, the soldiers had to pay most of this back to the company owner after their arrival in France.
Maria Jakobea Zurlauben paid for advertisements in places such as the ‘Wirtshauser’ (pubs) from her own funds. After the death of Beat Heinrich Josef, she travelled to Paris to look through his estate and claim her money. She also shared in the financial proceeds of the payroll business and her husband was given an officer's position in his brother-in-law's company In retur n, Maria Jakobea had to take her elderly mother into her household and look after her
Anna Maria Zurlauben’s father had 22 children; she didn’t follow her half-sister Maria Jakobea into the mercenary business but at the tender age of just 16, she took her vows at the Frauenthal convent in Cham. From then on, she was known as Sister Maria Ursula and lived behind convent walls for six decades. Despite, or perhaps because of, the strict rules of the order, life in the convent enabled women to enjoy a fulfilling life full of education, security, community, spirituality, fulfilment and leadership It was not long before Sister Maria Ursula Zurlauben held the honourable and responsible position of Prioress of Frauenthal Convent (Hagendor n) Back then, convents were not just spiritual centres as they are today, but also important commercial and economic enterprises with their own farms, workshops and factories. In 1705, when the economy of the Mariazell- Wurmsbach convent near Rapperswil on Lake Zurich went awry, Sister Maria Ursula was called in from the Frauenthal convent and tasked with revitalising the shattered monastery business on Lake Zurich She acted as manager and reorganiser
To have complete freedom of decision, she was given the position of abbess The first thing she did was scrutinise the accounts: the monastery had considerable debts and only 20 guilders left in its coffers. She summarised: ‘So I've gone from a poor meadow (Frauenthal) to a far leaner one.’ Action was needed. Abbess Ursula drew on her family network for her reorganisation task. This was because her relatives now held leading positions in their monasteries The money: Sister Maria Ursula thus ensured an active transfer of expertise and flow of money between Zug, Cham, Rapperswil, Tanikon, Muri and Rheinau. She reorganised her convent and achieved a tur naround, as one would say today. Maria Ursula died at the age of 76. The two convents of Wurmsbach and Frauenthal still exist today, thanks in part to Sister Ursula's work.
Maria Elisabeth Zurlauben, nee Kolin, married Beat Fidel Zurlauben in an arranged marriage, as was common at the time. She was 17 and he was 34. He was mostly away in France, serving at the King’s court and had tried unsuccessfully to marry other ladies Through the marriage, the Zurlaubens got the Zurlaubenhof back from the Kolin family In 1764 it became public that she was having an affair, moving her lover into the Zurlaubenhof, and the Kolins became an enemy of the Zurlaubens. The conservative Catholic authorities in Zug appeared to initially tolerate the situation but she was alleged to have been sent to a convent in Freiburg for three years. This is not verified Certainly, her daughter spent time there Beat took the child away from Zug to protect her while there were conflicts with the Kolins.

Because she was a Kolin, she was protected in Zug but eventually, rivalry between the Kolins and the Zurlaubens over the lucrative salt trade, among other things, forced her to kick her lover out In 1767, she spent a long time in Konstanz and afterwards there was a reconciliation and the marriage of convenience seems to have tur ned into a love marriage You can experience and read the whole story of Maria Elisabeth Zurlauben in the Burg Museum, Zug in an installation in English.

Our yearly Zugerberg Finanz Trophy has closed its trails. Our ZIWC team has won the 2025 trophy! I went and had a little chat with some of our 70 participants.
Veerle
Vandionant, Interest Group Chairwoman
Set against the breathtaking surroundings of Zug’s alpine landscape, the Zugerberg Finance Trophy has become more than just a sporting event, it’s a community celebration of movement, inclusion, and human connection After interviewing participants of this year’s event, one message echoed through all the answers: this experience goes beyond competition. Our youngest participant was 9 and the eldest was 74. It’s about every age, every ability, and every person finding joy in being active outdoors, forming new friendships, and strengthening their sense of well-being

One of the most striking aspects of the Zugerberg Finance Trophy is its inclusive spirit. Participants spanned across generations, from young children taking on their first challenge, to seasoned runners or walkers enjoying the mountain air, to older adults walking the course with pride. “It’s not about being the fastest,” one participant shared. “It’s about showing up, being part of something bigger, and moving your body with joy.”.
Participants spoke enthusiastically about the unique experience of exercising outdoors
The courses wind through some of the most stunning natural scenery in the region. “There’s something about being outside that clears your mind and makes you feel good,” said one of our runners. A walker added, “You feel free out here. The fresh air, the trees, the sunshine or the rain, it gives you energy ”
Outdoor events like the Zugerberg Finance Trophy offer a powerful reminder of the mental and emotional benefits of nature-based activity It’s not just exercise, it’s therapy
A major theme that emerged in the interview was the importance of social connection Whether friends signed up together or new Members joined and met each other for the first time on the trail, the event sparked conversations, laughter, and lasting bonds. “I came alone, but I left with new friends,” one participant said with a smile. Many described the trophy as a kind of social glue, a reason to connect, share stories, and build community
For many, the event served as a source of motivation to set goals and follow through and be part of a team aiming for a shared result. Participants described how motivated they were and it gave them some structure, purpose, and a positive focus “It got me out of bed in the mor ning,” admitted one person “I feel healthier, mentally and physically ” A new Member joined this challenge as she wanted to do one new thing a day when moving to Switzerland. That one new thing has been postponed till now as she was so hooked by getting these kilometres in and meeting up and continuing the stories that weren’t finished the previous day.

The Zugerberg Finance Trophy is not an athletic competition, it’s a living example of how movement can bring people together, regardless of age or ability It celebrates nature, friendship, and well-being in one joyful, shared experience For those who take part, it’s not just about finishing the course. It’s about feeling part of something meaningful, and carrying that feeling into everyday life.
And as Kathryn shared with us: after every walk there is the coffee and cake and the longer the walk the better the coffee!
So here’s to more fresh air, new friendships, and the power of community activities like this one. Who’s joining us next year?
The ZT is hiber nating but starts again in February 2026. Please get in touch with Sarah Paul – 079 279 9748 - if you want to have more information, signup and join so we can defend this year’s trophy.
“It is so empowering and motivating to see women of every age taking part,” said one of our Club Members “There was no pressure just encouragement, smiles, and a shared sense of purpose.” Enjoying nature, good chats and friendships

By Alicia Toledo, Escape Chairwoman
In my time as Chairwoman, I have lear ned that the most anticipated Escape of the year is usually when we plan a multi-day trip This year, Firenze Italia was our destination I am often asked what is involved in putting together an Escape such as this, so through this trip recap, I’ll give you a glimpse.
Eight Club Members ended up taking this wonderful four-day jour ney to the city considered the birthplace of the Renaissance. I contact the group ahead of the travel date and send a survey to get a sense of what the ladies enjoy doing when in another city Questions such as do they like museums, shopping, doing the typical touristy things or more off-the-path experiences? Once I had the information I put together our itinerary for the three days we had to work with, as the first day was a travel day.
In order to not box the ladies into a strict schedule, I like to plan a set activity we all participate in as a group, then free time for everyone to explore at their leisure then a group dinner to cap the evening
Day One: Travel Day. We travelled by SBB from Zug to Milan and switched trains to continue to Firenze. It was rather straightforward and we arrived at our destination within 5 hours. Our hotels were centrally located quite close to the train station and the centre of town If you have never been, it is a very walkable city and quite easy to get around Everyone checked in, refreshed and off we went to walk around a bit Our first stop together was the famous wine windows to each get a glass to toast to the start of our time in the city. Then we proceeded to dinner at Trattoria Zà Zà in Florence's Central Market Square. The restaurant is known for typical Florentine and Tuscan fare. We were seated at a fantastic table that almost felt like a VIP area with the most interesting and colourful decor The food and wine were outstanding while the plate servings were quite large Thankfully we walked after our meal
Day Two: Museum Day. Weather-wise it was a bit rainy on our second day, which worked out quite well with our plan. Museums are the perfect rainy day activity and it seemed the other tourists also had this in mind Thankfully we had “skip the line” access to the Galleria Degli Uffizi so our wait time to enter was minimal I highly recommend acquiring skip passes whenever possible The museum has a world-renowned collection of paintings and sculptures including works by Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Botticelli, Rembrandt, Raphael, Caravaggio and many more. The ladies and I split up to enjoy at our own pace. I observed most other visitors flocked to the Birth of Venus, which is likely one of the most well-known pieces in the museum but interestingly, there are other stunningly beautiful paintings in the same room that were largely ignored by the crowd There are wonderful things to observe everywhere you look, including the ceilings and the cor ners. Truly worth taking time to visit.
Upon reuniting at the exit, the ladies continued in separate groups to either enjoy lunch or walk around a bit There are so many delicious places to eat near the Piazza della Signoria There are options from Ristorante, Trattoria, Osteria to choose from. A few hours later, the ladies found each other again and we all went to enjoy the most delicious affogatos together at Caffe Mario. We loved it so much that many of us ended up going there multiple times during the trip!
Next stop was the Gucci museum and shop The museum is set up in a way that showcases some iconic clothing pieces in one room, the bags in another dream-closet-type set-up, and then the scarves in the final room. It was a quick visit but still worth seeing if you enjoy fashion.

The weather improved significantly for our evening plan and the rain stopped. We visited the San Miniato Al Monte Basilica, where there is a monastic community and we decided to attend the Mass celebration which was then followed by the singing of Vespers in Latin and Gregorian chant by the monks in residence A fun fact we lear ned: the cemetery by the Basilica is where Carlo Collodi, the author of Pinocchio, is buried. The steps of the Church were a perfect spot to see the sunset and take in the view of the City, while avoiding the larger crowd gathered at the Piazzale Michelangelo not far away. A short walk from the Basilica, we arrived at our dinner spot, Terrazze Michelangelo A very full day of activity and food!
Day Three: Walking Tour and Shopping Day. I love booking a walking tour on our trips when possible. We enjoyed a fascinating 2-hour Medici Family guided tour together where our guide shared interesting historical and architectural details There is something so special about having a local share the history and stories of their city that you do not quite get from the inter net or books. There were fun jokes that even our guide recognized other guides at some point telling each other’s same jokes and puns at the same landmarks. It was awe-inspiring to know that we were walking through such a significant historical city.
Once the tour finished, we then split up again to adventure on our own or in groups One of the most interesting stops for me was visiting the Giunti Odeon - Libreria e Cinema, which is a beautiful theatre that was converted into a book store but is also still a cinema. On the second level there are theatre seats around a balcony that overlooks the book area below and the working screen showing a film I could spend all day there but there is so much more to see in the city Dinner that evening was at Cibrèo, a wonderful restaurant located within a hotel The setting, service and menu were top.
Day Four: Free Day and Departure
Our final day is the day I do not programme anything for the ladies and we all enjoyed doing our own thing, whether it was going to pick up a final souvenir or having one more delicious meal and gelato before our departure back to Zug.
Unfortunately, not all things were quite a breeze on our trip home and must be shared as a war ning. Upon arriving in Milan and switching trains, four of our ladies encountered a group trying to steal their luggage after they had already boarded Thankfully, our ladies had been very aware this was a possibility since it is something that is a daily occurrence in the city now. Our ZIWC ladies very quickly realised the situation and let the would-be thieves know that they were messing with the wrong group and the theft was thwarted. The conductor arrived and informed the ladies that it has been a very difficult problem to control Thankfully, our ladies had their wits about them and it ended up only being a momentary fright and nothing more serious
I would like to extend my thanks to our wonderful group of ladies who travelled to Firenze together. Émely, Karin, Katalin, Marianne, Rebecca, Susan and Vivi, you all made this trip a delight Wine, food, fashion and fun What a time we had!
And to you Dear Readers, I look forward to serving you all and offering interesting Escapes the remaining months of my final term as Chairwoman.
On a rather overcast after noon in August, we stepped aboard the ferry at the Bahnhofsteg for the Charity Cruise on Lake Zug. It was an idea by Susan, our Vice-President, to host the event on this beautiful, white splendour of a boat, that took us cruising for 2 1/2 hours.
We had an area completely to ourselves with two long tables. One for the raffle prizes, which Saakje, Charity Coordinator, had managed to collect from generous sponsors yet again, and one for us eleven ladies who made it there.
The raffle goodies were put into exquisite paper bags that Saakje had found in Holland, and just to look at them was delightful and we all came away with a loaded bag!
Waited on by smiling and attentive staff the whole time, we enjoyed lovely bites to eat and plenty of prosecco. The “Matrose” also came to charm us several times.
It was such a pleasant experience, with interesting and fun conversation between us, whilst cruising at moderate speed which was so smooth that we could have been sitting in a restaurant at the harbour, were it not for the beautiful, changing scenery
The whole idea of an event like this every year is for our Club to collect money for a chosen charity This year we support Frauenhaus Luzer n, which is a most worthy cause, because this is a place of last resort for the women, suffering from domestic abuse, who have no other place to go, a virtual haven 24/7 for women and children in need.
Thank you so much Susan Laudenbacher and Saakje Daalhuijsen for creating this special, memorable event.
Vivi Jensen

Art & Cultural outing of November to Zurich is taking place on the 18th. We will meet in Zurich BH at 11.30. Please register online.
Swiss artist Alice Bailly (1872 Geneva – 1938 Lausanne) lived in Paris from 1906 to 1914, where she developed her own distinctive Futurist and Cubist approaches. In 1918 – 19, she took part in Dada events in Zurich and joined the ‘Das Neue Leben’ group. It was during this period that she created her innovative wool pictures (‘tableaux-laine’), which are now being shown at the Kunsthaus The presentation is an exchange with the Musée cantonal des Beaux-Arts in Lausanne, where a retrospective marking 100 years since the death of Félix Vallotton is taking place in the city of his birth, with substantial loans from the Kunsthaus.

As part of the ReCollect! series, the works of Wolfgang Laib are brought into dialogue with masterpieces from the Kunsthaus Zürich Collection. Since the late 1970s, Laib has created radically reduced, quietly powerful works using pollen, beeswax, milk, rice and stone

As of January we are starting a new Interest Group
