Cheshire CHATTER Want wedding advice? Jennifer Delgado is your woman, as she looks back to getting married three times over

s this month is Absolutely’s weddings special, it only seems fitting that I take the time to reflect on the whirlwind that was our wedding last year. Not to do things by halves, we got married three times in a month. Once for the legalities, once for everyone else, and of course the signature Elvis ceremony in Vegas. A lot of people since have asked my advice on planning a wedding and if there is anything I’d do differently. And to be honest, there’s no straight answer. I loved my wedding (all three of them), but I definitely preferred the no frills, no fuss option.

Total transparency, being a bride didn’t come naturally to me and I struggled with it a lot. Mostly because of all the fuss, the thought of walking down the aisle with everyone staring at me and quite possibly the worst part – organising it. If I was to give any couples planning to get hitched, this is it: Figure out what it is you want from your day. Is it the traditional route or is it something different? Start early. This was the most frustrating part for me, day to day I’m pretty chill so trying to rack my brain around the idea that I had to book a make up artist 12 months in advance or I needed to plan an outfit months ahead blew my mind. But it was necessary. Have regular check-ins with your partner. Make sure you’re still on the same page and don’t let any outside noise intervene. Lastly, and most importantly, make it your own. Not every wedding has to look the same because not every couple is the same. Pick the traditions you want and leave the ones you don’t want. We didn’t have a first dance, but we kept the speeches. All in all, my favourite wedding out of them all was my legal wedding. No fuss, just a small room with a handful of people we loved. We went to a pub after for a pint, me and my husband got matching tattoos and I wore a £40 cream suit from Sainsbury’s.

What I’m looking forward to this month • Chester Races is back, so we’ll be heading there for the Boodles May Festival. • Champagne and Fromage this little gem has landed in Chester and can't wait to try out the champagne flight and of course the cheeseboard. • Salt House Tapas - I’m late to the party with this one, but will be booking in for a date night with Jack this month.

hris Rose, who has worked with the likes of Disney, Sony, Lego, Hasbro and Mattel on advertising campaigns, is bringing his new show to his hometown. With ‘Figured Out: Toy Stories in Nature’, open now until 15th June at Warrington Museum and Art Gallery, the Culcheth photographer will share his love of toys and action figures, and show how keeping a piece of his childhood alive has led to a high profile career. Chris’s passion for toys began aged six, when he started collecting Star Wars figures and imagining their backstories. This led to a lifelong pursuit of blending narrative and photography and crafting scenes that blur the line between fantasy and reality. Chris has found a real flair and eye for this unique artform and what began as a hobby has led to opportunities all over the world. As well as being headhunted for campaigns by the likes of Disney and Sony, his work has been exhibited as far as Cape Town and Shanghai. He is also a member of the ‘Stuck in Plastic’ community, where he shares his passion for toy photography with like-minded creatives. lot can happen in 10 years. Leanne Brown first rose to fame as one of the original cast members of Real Housewives of Cheshire back in 2015. “I did feel a little apprehensive at first,” she says on joining the show. “However, what helped to ease my mind was the fact that almost all the other girls joining the show were people I already knew, and I had positive relationships with them. That familiarity really helped, as I knew I wouldn’t be going into it completely blind. Their support made a huge difference and helped me feel more comfortable about stepping into the unknown.” It’s a time of reflection as Leanne has returned to the show, joining a cast that includes Ell Egar, Lauren Simon, Lystra Adams, Paige Chohan, Rachel Lugo, Seema Malhotra and Sheena Lynch, as she returns as a guest housewife for the all stars season

to celebrate 10 years on air. As we will come on to, life is now very different for Leanne, but she was more than happy to return to being in front of the cameras. “I’ve always said I don’t have any regrets about being on the show,” she states. “My time on The Real Housewives of Cheshire really sparked a shift in me. It pushed me to go on a self-discovery journey to understand myself better and figure out what I truly wanted out of life. It was an eye-opening experience, and I’m grateful for the growth it brought me.” Did the show have an impact on her public profile? “Yes, absolutely,” she nods. “In terms of recognition, my life certainly shifted. I got a taste of being in the public eye and being surrounded by high-profile people. Being with [ex-husband] Wes and attending various events, games, and finals opened doors to experiences I hadn’t had before. The ‘footballers' wives’ (WAG) culture was just starting to take off back then, with Victoria Beckham’s relationship in the spotlight, and the

press were loving it. While we didn’t receive the same kind of attention, I still had the experience of being papped. “The recognition itself was manageable, and I never encountered anyone who was truly negative or unpleasant to me in person,” she adds. “Of course, social media attracted its fair share of trolls, but I quickly learned that you can’t be everyone’s cup of tea. That’s just part of the package when you’re on TV, and I’ve come to accept it as part of the experience.” The calming way Leanne describes dealing with the worst of what social media offers shows why she has been successful as a life coach since leaving the show. “For me, it was a gradual shift,” she explains the career change, “but giving birth to Lola was a huge turning point. I used hypnobirthing and it was incredible. It created an awareness in me of the power we have as mind and body, and that really stuck with me. I’ve always been open to spirituality

“I understand it was about seeing myself, knowing my own worth, and that's been an ongoing process” and have tried different therapies, like crystal healing and reiki, which were great, but as time went on, especially through the show, I began looking at my life in a completely different way. “I’ve spoken before about having a shopping addiction – I would just buy things and collect things,” she continues. “Over time, I realised this was my way of trying to fill a void, something inside me that couldn’t be filled with material things. That’s when I really had to look at myself and the people in my life, including my relationships. I started craving more depth and connection, but I was looking for validation from others at first. Now, I understand that it was about seeing

myself, knowing my own worth, and that’s been a deep, ongoing process.” That process has led to the hugely popular Eat, Pray & Self-Love retreats alongside Sophie Baines. “Sophie is absolutely incredible,” Leanne smiles. “She was diagnosed with a pancreatic tumour, and just 12 months later, she was diagnosed with secondary liver cancer. Against all odds, she healed herself naturally. Her journey is a testament to the power of nutrition and how food truly is medicine. Through her experience, she’s gained so much knowledge, and the pain she endured has been transformed into power. Sophie is such an inspiration, and I feel so lucky to have her as part of the retreat and as a friend.”

On the retreats themselves, Leanne says: “It’s been an incredible journey, and we’ve met so many amazing people along the way who have had incredible breakthroughs from attending the retreats. We’ve hosted them regularly in the UK’s Lake District, as well as in Portugal and Mexico. “Sophie had her beautiful baby girl, Aryia, who’s almost 2 now, so the retreats have slowed down a little, but we’re excited to announce our next one in France from 15th-20th June this year at the most beautiful French chateau. We still have a couple of spaces left, so if anyone is interested, they can check it out at eatprayandselflove.co.uk.” Leanne has also recently launched her new program ‘Midlife Awakening Method’ a program designed for women in midlife. As befits starring in a show with the county in its name, Leanne still calls Cheshire home. “I absolutely love it here,” she says, suggesting that won’t change any time soon. “It’s such a beautiful place, I’m definitely a country girl at heart. I grew up in a little village, and now I live in a house surrounded by fields. It’s peaceful and a bit off the beaten path, but still close enough to enjoy the restaurants because, let’s be honest, I love food! Manchester isn’t too far either. These days, I’m definitely more into lovely food and wine than a crazy party life.” Although Leanne says TV may play a role in the future, it’s clear her time in front of the cameras in the latest series of The Real Housewives of Cheshire may be fleeting. “I’ll definitely be continuing with the retreats and coaching, and I’m building lots of connections with businesses and networks. I truly believe everyone could use a little more zen in their lives, and I’m excited to keep spreading that message. “I’ll also be releasing my second journal soon, and I’ve even started writing a book! There are some really exciting things ahead.” It will be interesting to see where Leanne Brown is in another 10 years. The Real Housewives of Cheshire is on ITVBe and ITVX at 9PM on Mondays. CAST John Power discusses Liverpool’s musical heritage, supporting Oasis and what to expect from his new show

t was supposed to be one of the main events of the year. John Power, founder and frontman of Cast, had planned a run of solo gigs in 2025. There was talk of a new record, plans for his first book, and talk of more shows. Rock’n’roll had other plans, however, and Cast have enjoyed a renaissance like no other. It was sparked by their brilliant 2024 record, Love Is The Call, a virtuoso of classy songwriting and playing, under the tutelage of super-producer Youth. That led to sell-out tours, an impending new album, and, of course, the invitation to join Oasis on this summer’s stadium tour of the UK and Ireland. It’s not the first time. Cast famously supported Oasis at their recordbreaking 1996 Knebworth show, which for many marked the zenith of Britpop. And so, remarkably, fans who’ll this summer be paying a princely sum for the return of the nation’s best Britpop bands, can see John in intimate theatres and arts centres across the UK. Danke schoen, fate. You’ve played a blinder. John is looking forward to hitting the road, while probably also wondering when he’ll next get a day off. Such is the life of a bona fide rock star. In April and May he’ll be playing solo dates in intimate theatres and clubs. In late spring he’ll be rehearsing for the colossal gigs-of-the-year with Oasis, and only a fool would bet against there being a headline Cast tour once all that’s done. “We’re pleased with the way things have gone,” says John, ever the master of understatement, and the acme of humility. “We seem to have caught a wave, particularly since Love Is The Call. A lot of people thought that was a creative peak for the band. That’s certainly something

we wanted to achieve. I think at this stage of our career, it was the album we needed to make. We wanted to capture the energy and the vibe of what I was intending.” But we’ve skipped ahead and ought to look back – just as John’s solo shows will. For when he hits the road with Cast, The La’s, and Me, John will be going back to the source: Liverpool. He grew up in a city where music was in the DNA of everyone. “Whether it was hearing The Beatles on the radio or The Bunnymen, Liverpool was a remarkable place to grow up. Music’s in our blood, and that’s really how it all started for me,” he says. His solo show will start there, as John tells stories about growing up in Britain’s

most musical city. He was drawn to bass guitar, and Wild Thing was his first bass line. By 1986, he was on a course for unemployed musicians, where he met Mike Badger, an important mentor. John, Mike, and Lee Mavers became the core trio of The La’s, one of Britain’s greatest bands, and the rest, as they say… “I was just a young kid and I was in a band with the greatest songwriter of his generation, Lee Mavers. Being around him was inspiring,” he says. “I don’t think we had a fractious relationship. If you look at the people who came and went in The La’s, our relationship was pretty solid. I don’t know if Lee will like me saying this, but

LIVERPOOL HAS AN ICONIC MUSICAL HERITAGE

“Liverpool was a remarkable place to grow up. Music is in our blood and that's how it all started for me” he was like a mentor. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t have been writing songs or singing backing vocals – it was his idea. Lee was a master, his songs were life-changing.” John stayed longer than anyone other than Mavers, including the group founder. Recording The La’s debut album – a record the public loved but Mavers hated – was key. While the record remains a seminal 1990s album, it spelled the end of the band and John moved on around 1992. He’d started to write – songs like Alright and Follow Me Down – and had switched from bass to rhythm guitar. He was living at Brucklay House, a near derelict squat in Mossley Hill, and began jamming with ex-Shack bassist Peter Wilkinson, before hooking up with drummer Keith O’Neill and guitarist Liam ‘Skin’ Tyson. The band secured support slots with Elvis Costello and Oasis. “It was all still ahead of us when we formed Cast. There were no hangups. It was a very free and inspiring time. All of a sudden the dreams started to take care of themselves. “Meeting Liam and Noel was a really important moment and we’ve maintained those relationships,” he adds. “It was incredible to support Liam on his tour and we’re blown away to have been invited to support them this summer. It kind of

reaffirms our legacy and authenticates the road and journey that we’ve been on as a band. And now us, Richard Ashcroft and Oasis – talk about Northern Soul! That’s some line-up. We’re about to play the biggest tour of our lives.” Cast’s debut album, All Change, came out in 1995. The album shot to No. 7 in the UK charts, reaching double platinum and went on to become the fastest selling debut album in the history of the Polydor label, outselling the likes of The Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Who and The Jam. Their sophomore record, Mother Nature Calls, repeated the trick, reaching No. 3 on the chart and again securing a platinum disc. “Britpop was a fine time,” says John. “It was like being in the eye of the hurricane. When Cast had the success that they had, I kind of missed it all. Maybe I was too intense, so some of my time in that so-called successful era wasn’t very enjoyable. But it taught me a lot. I know how quick it’s gone, and I know that if you don’t take notice of what’s happening in the now, it may as well not have happened at all.” Cast were wilfully experimental and their 2001 record, Beetroot, was ahead of its time. It was Cast’s most adventurous work, though afterwards the band split. Through the 2000s, John released his

three solo records: Happening For Love, Willow She Weeps, and Stormbreaker. After performing a Cast acoustic show, he decided to reform the band and start work on a new record, Cast’s fifth studio album, Trouble Times. By the middle of the decade – around 2016 – Cast had signed with Alan McGee, Britpop’s don and the man who founded Creation Records and signed Oasis. Kicking Up The Dust followed in 2017 before last year’s remarkable return to form, with Love Is The Call. John says: “It felt like a debut album. I got that same energy from that that I’d had from All Change. I kept getting this feeling of a space that existed somewhere between the end of The La’s and the beginning of Cast – a space I hadn’t really explored – so Love Is The Call was that space. It had a vibe, a kind of psychedelic pop album, with a rock ‘n’ roll, punky beats and a bouncing bass, jumping acoustics and some blistering electrics.” And now it’s 2025 – a full 30 years on from such hits as Finetime and Alright, the tunes that announced Cast as major players in Britpop. It feels remarkable that John still has the same energy, the same drive, the same determination to make timeless, iconic tunes. And his new show – now crammed in between the recording of Cast’s next record and their dates with destiny, alongside Oasis, this summer – will showcase those. “I’m looking forward to telling a few of the stories, to looking back and to looking forward, and to playing some of the songs that people know and love.” And so are we, John. So are we.

hester boasts a rich and varied musical heritage that spans centuries. From medieval chants within its ancient cathedral to the vibrant contemporary music scene, the city has been a hub for artistic expression and musical innovation.

EARLY MUSICAL TRADITIONS

The roots of Chester’s musical culture can be traced back to its religious institutions, particularly Chester Cathedral. As early as the medieval period, the cathedral played a vital role in the city’s musical life. Gregorian chants and early polyphonic music were performed by monks and clerics, setting a foundation for sacred music traditions in Chester. The cathedral’s choir, one of the oldest in England, continues to be a prominent musical institution, maintaining a legacy that dates back over 900 years. During the 16th century, following the English Reformation, church music in Chester adapted to new Protestant influences, embracing English choral compositions. Chester also played a role in the early development of English opera and theatre music. With its strategic location as a trade and cultural hub, touring musicians and theatrical troupes frequently performed in the city. This exposure to national and international influences helped cultivate an appreciation for operatic and theatrical music among Chester’s residents.

THE RISE OF POPULAR AND FOLK MUSIC

Beyond the cathedral and theatre, Chester’s musical heritage is deeply rooted in folk traditions. The region’s folk music scene, influenced by both English and Welsh traditions, thrived in the 18th and 19th centuries. CONTEMPORARY MUSIC SCENE AND FESTIVALS

Today, Chester’s musical heritage is as vibrant as ever, with a thriving contemporary music scene that encompasses multiple genres. The city boasts numerous live music venues, from intimate pubs to larger concert halls, where local and national artists perform regularly. The emergence of independent music labels and recording studios in Chester has also provided a platform for new talent, allowing musicians to reach wider audiences.

Festivals remain a major part of Chester’s musical identity, none more so than the Chester Folk Festival, which in May celebrates its 50th anniversary. Absolutely chatted to one of the trustees of the charity, Cheryl Hunt, to find out what to expect in this most special of years. Q Who initially had the idea to launch a festival devoted to folk in Chester? A It was started by a group comprised of the organisers of various folk clubs that were running in Chester at the time. Q How different did the festival look 50 years ago? A For the first few years it was held in various venues in Chester city centre, so it was much smaller and with no camping. We moved to our current greenfield site behind the Morris Dancer pub in Kelsall in 1979. Q How much of an achievement would you say it is that a festival of this kind has lasted five decades? A We think it’s a great achievement and we’re very proud that we’ve managed to keep it going for so long. Q How has the festival evolved? A It’s a bigger event than it was, although

still small enough to be friendly. We are now a registered charity and we also run some other smaller events during the year, including music workshops for young people.

Q How long have you been involved? A I first attended in 1977, got to know

a few people and was roped in as a steward the following year. From then I gradually got more involved.

Q Do you have a big team behind the scenes? A Yes. There are about 30 members of the

organising group and we’re supported by a large team of stewards and volunteers who help out during the actual festival weekend. Q How much time does it take to plan a new festival? A Over a year. We will start booking artists for 2026 quite soon, so that we can advertise them in this year’s programme. Q Are you looking to do anything special to mark the 50th anniversary? A Yes. We have been collecting memories from people who’ve been regular attendees over the years, and these will be published on our website. There will be a special 50th anniversary concert on the Saturday of the festival featuring some of the very talented local singers and musicians who’ve helped keep the festival going all these years. Q What for you are some of the highlights of this year’s line-up? A We’re very pleased to welcome two of our favourite groups – Melrose Quartet and the Wilson Family, who will perform together as folk supergroup The Melsons. Other highlights are squeezebox virtuoso John Kirkpatrick and acclaimed singer songwriter Jez Lowe. Q Do you get the feeling the local Chester community really embraces the festival? A Yes – we get many local people attending and the residents of Kelsall are always pleased to see us.

A very lucky couple called at one of their recent roadshow events with a couple of old gold chains and a silver charm bracelet and a bag of old silver coins. They were paid over £1,600 just for the coins alone. They turned out to be pre 1947 silver coins that were normal currency a few years ago and are now highly collected. Like most people, who can only dream of winning the pools or the lottery, a lot of normal

households have a hidden treasure of old gold jewellery, silver jewellery, teapots, trophies, trays and old objets d’art. Why not get a free valuation from an expert at one of the roadshows? There is no queuing and their experts will give you a one on one appraisal of the value of your treasured possessions in a private area, where there are no prying eyes, watching the process evolve. If you like the valuation, their expert will make you the same offer in cash which you can accept or decline at no cost to yourself. Anything can be an unearthed treasure. Any old British or foreign coins. Any old wrist watches or pocket watches. All chains, bracelets, rings and bangles broken or not and in any

condition. If you think it is a diamond ring, bring it along and they will confirm it to be genuine. If you have an old trophy or tankard or any silver coloured items, let them value them for you. Old war medals and old Masonic medals can be very valuable. You will be surprised to hear that they have paid thousands of pounds for certain war medals and even the General Service Medal group is worth bringing especially if you have the original box. Also of great interest are old military uniforms, tunics, hats and any army, navy or RAF field gear. There are rarely any queues at the events and they can normally offer a valuation within a few minutes. They will give you a free valuation on which they back up with a cash offer, there and then. Get looking now in your old drawers, cupboards, and jewellery boxes. Look in the loft and the cellar, even old broken or squashed items of jewellery and silver are valuable. Of particular interest are gold and silver cigarette cases, Vesta Cases, thimbles, candlesticks, trays and all things silver are needed. LETTER LA jewellery designer Maya Brenner developed a cult following for her initial necklaces. Absolutely visits her studio By PENDLE HARTE

s this the age of personalisation? Everyone wants something authentic, something with meaning – and, increasingly, brands are offering us ways of becoming part of a product’s story. We want to take an active role, rather than simply consuming. So whether it’s designing our own trainers, engraving names into hairbrushes or creating our own perfumes, the notion of identity is very much a part of today’s shopping experience. And LA-based jeweller Maya Brenner is very much part of the zeitgeist. Her business started small, about 20 years ago, when she started making pretty necklaces featuring charms and initials, firstly as a hobby while she was working as a social worker, and later as a business. But when Meghan Markle was pictured wearing one in 2008, things really took off this side of the Atlantic. Orders started flooding in and in 2021 Maya opened a showroom – and now I have headed there to design my own necklace, because the brand’s best-seller remains the customisable asymmetrical letter necklace as worn by the Duchess of Sussex. Not that you actually need to come in person. And then there are the charms, which are welded onto the chain rather than simply hung in the usual way, and this is what creates the signature asymmetric look. Of course you can fit as many or as

“It wouldn't have been the same if we celebrated elsewhere”

here were high expectations of this wedding right from the off: Gareth proposed on 19th September 2022 at an altitude of 3,842 metres. Ceri and Gareth had just stepped into the Aiguille du Midi Skywalk (also known as the glass room at Mont Blanc) when Gareth got down on one knee. Ceri recalls that it was quite possibly the best distraction from the terrifying height they were at. Ceri and Gareth have both worked at Rowton Castle for many years and met within this extraordinary setting back in 2007. They have now been together for over 10 years.

Although Ceri had found her dress, the couple did not set a date for their wedding until January 2024. While Ceri and Gareth both felt a deep connection to Rowton Castle, they were initially unsure if it was the right choice for their wedding. Feeling a little guilty about it, they decided to explore other venues. This decision ultimately led them to realise that no other location could offer

the same level of care and attention. With the reassurance that they would have the best day possible in a place they knew and loved, they set a date at Rowton Castle. The couple knew they wanted to marry during the summer months and envisioned an intimate, family-only ceremony, followed by a much larger, laidback garden party. A relaxed atmosphere with plentiful food and drinks was key, and Ceri and Gareth also wanted the day to reflect their personalities.

THE PREPARATION

“We wanted the day to be very relaxed, but we were keen to tie everything in with the castle backdrop so that there was cohesion,” Ceri says. “To some extent my choice of dress dictated the overall direction. Blush pink was repeated throughout, with gold and glass elements, too.”

The ceremony and lunch were for 25 people, adding an intimate feel to proceedings. “We had long tables, so opted for bud vases, and a mix of gold and glass candlesticks, and tealights in different sizes,” Ceri says. “Our florist supplied buckets of seasonal blooms in various shades of white and pink (and all manner of textures), and my sister and I arranged the flowers in the bud vases the night before. Working at the venue, it was lovely to know that my tables would be set up exactly how I wanted them; and to help with this, I supplied a detailed decoration plan for each table. “The flowers were all grown locally which I loved,” Ceri adds. “Roses, dahlias, cosmos, hydrangea, anemones, stocks and delphiniums all featured. There were bouquets for myself, my sister who was bridesmaid and my niece as flower girl. We had buttonholes and corsages for Gareth, our A B S O L U T E LY m a g a z i n e s

little boy Toby and both sets of parents. The meadow arrangements that were used in the ceremony were brought back to the castle and used as part of the table arrangements, and then again in the gardens afterwards. We opted for no foliage; garden grown blooms in a just grown there style. A focus on flowers rather than greenery, was a way for our florals to fit with a more elegant style.” And the cake? “It was a two-tier lemon cake with buttercream and lemon curd. It was decorated very simply with white fondant icing and a blush pink chiffon ribbon. Plus, a cake of cheese for Gareth – it was the only 'rustic' element of the day.”

THE BIG DAY

Ceri’s sister was her only bridesmaid, with her niece, Darcie, acting as the flower girl. Their son, Toby, had the important role of being Gareth’s best man, with Gareth’s dad supporting him. Ceri and Gareth decided to hold their ceremony at the Old Music Hall in Shrewsbury, also known as the Shrewsbury Museum. To add a vintage touch, a classic bus transported their guests from the castle to the ceremony and back. A particularly meaningful detail was Ceri’s wedding band, made by a local goldsmith

in the same square as the ceremony venue. Crafted from half of her great-grandfather’s wedding ring, the other half would be used to make the wedding band for her sister. After the ceremony, guests were seated for lunch at Rowton Castle. Ceri and Gareth chose a menu featuring some of their favourite dishes, including burrata salad, steak with dauphinoise potatoes, and the most incredible salted-caramel chocolate cheesecake. A special touch was added with vanilla salt, which they had picked up during a trip to Anglesey just months before. As the evening approached, additional guests were greeted with Hugo Spritz cocktails and a selection of delicious canapés. The reception included live music, garden games, and an evening meal served from the garden kitchen. There were no speeches or cake cutting, and even the first dance was a last-minute addition. The evening was informal and full of joy, just as Ceri and Gareth had imagined. While the florist created the bouquets and ceremony arrangements, Ceri and her sister had a hands-on moment the night before the wedding, assembling the bud vases that enhanced the effortless and romantic aesthetic. Any leftover flowers and bouquet stems were dried and repurposed to create confetti for Ceri’s sister’s wedding, preserving the wonderful memories of the day further. Ceri also designed and created all the wedding stationery, adding yet another personal touch to the event. Ceri and Gareth commented: “We honestly had the best day. The only thing we’d wish for is more time to enjoy it. We also know now that it wouldn’t have been the same if we had celebrated elsewhere, and we feel a little silly for even considering it.”

With the rising cost of travel, many couples are turning to honeymoon fund tools to help finance their trips. Prezola found that 68% of couples used a honeymoon fund tool within their wedding registry to cover their honeymoon expenses. The most common honeymoon budget falls between £2,000 and £3,000, and 44% of couples planned their honeymoon within less than six months, indicating a growing trend toward shorter planning timelines. Some 43% of couples opted for multiple honeymoon experiences, such as a ‘mini moon’ immediately after the wedding, followed by a longer, more elaborate trip later.

RISE OF THE ‘BUDDYMOON’ While honeymoons are traditionally an intimate getaway, 16% of couples said they would consider a ‘buddymoon’ – a

cultural immersion were the top priorities when planning their trips, indicating that newlyweds want both excitement and downtime on their getaways. uptial agreements have grown in popularity in the UK, particularly after high-profile divorces, and people marrying later with more assets to protect.

Q What is a prenuptial and

postnuptial agreement?

A A prenuptial agreement, commonly

known as a prenup, is a legal contract made before marriage, while a postnuptial agreement (postnup) is drawn up after the marriage has taken place. Both ensure there is a clear plan in place highlighting what will happen to assets that either person brought into the marriage or future inheritance in the event of divorce.

Q Do I need a nuptial agreement? A Once married, all assets become part

of a ‘matrimonial pot’, to be divided

between both individuals if they divorce. Nuptial agreements are often drafted before second marriages, particularly where there are children from a previous relationship, to ensure that the children’s inheritances are protected in the event of divorce or death. Younger couples marrying for the first time are also taking out a nuptial agreement. This can protect wealth from the ‘bank of Mum and Dad’ which can arise in circumstances whereby parents have helped their children buy a property, or the couple are likely to receive large gifts of money, shares in a business, or future inheritances during their marriage. Nuptial agreements can prevent lengthy and expensive legal battles in the event of a divorce and offer protection for both individuals and any children involved. Q Can I create a nuptial

agreement without a lawyer? A Nuptial agreements can be drafted

without a lawyer, but they are complex and require careful consideration. Specific safeguards need to be met when creating a nuptial agreement, to ensure it is likely to be upheld by judges in the family court. These include both parties receiving independent legal advice, full financial disclosure, and the agreement being negotiated and signed at least 28 days before the marriage. Agreeing to review the agreement periodically is also essential, as circumstances change. It is important that couples think about what they want to happen in the event they don’t get their happy ever after. After all, is it not better to talk about the “worst case scenario” at a time when you are most in love, not later when there may be bitterness and arguments? Q Do you find it easy talking about what happened to you? A I do find it easy to talk about, if I can inspire people to ask for help then that is what I want to achieve. Q Did you feel at the time you had enough help? A Like a lot of people, I didn’t know what help I needed, I didn’t even know what counselling was. I now know that a large part of therapy is connection, we have to trust, like and feel 100% comfortable with the therapist. I set the centre up to give people more choice when it comes to getting help. Q Mental health is often in the press, but do you think there is still a lot we don’t understand? A Mental health is talked about a lot, yes, but there is still a stigma around it. People

are so vulnerable when they need help, it is such a personal journey. If we can break down the walls, make it acceptable and part of life we can grow and cope better. Getting access to therapy is difficult through the NHS – if they allowed people to access a centre like Cheshire Wellness Centre, we could help so many people. Q In a nutshell, what do you offer at Cheshire Wellness Centre in Lymm? A We offer a whole journey solution, from counselling, psychology, addiction, hypnotherapy, nutrition, holistic therapies, yoga and many more. We have just started ADHD and ASD (Autism) assessments with our team of clinicians. We offer a gold standard assessment and importantly we offer after care also. We have helped so many people here in the last four years. We have genuinely changed peoples’ lives. Q What one thing would you like to get across with this interview? A I know how hard asking for help is. If I could offer one bit of advice, it would be don’t be afraid to ask for help, it may be painful this journey you will go on, but it is worth it! If you are prepared to put in some hard work, your life will change. Only you can make the change, we are here to help and guide you on this journey.

f you’re lucky enough to have a pretty bay window in your property, but feel a little stuck on exactly what you should do with it, then here are my five top tips.

GET COMFY AND HIDE THE CLUTTER

Whether your bay window is curved, square or oddly angled, installing a fitted storage cabinet or bench is one of my favourite ways to make the most of this space, and it’s often top of the wish list for my clients. The shape and size of your bay window space will often dictate the best use of space, but most of the time, opting for a combination of an upholstered seat with neat storage underneath seems to fulfil everyone’s needs. The doors often follow a straight run, keeping the look tailored and simple, whilst the cabinets

For something more flexible or renterfriendly, adding a key piece of furniture into your bay window can be a great option. A freestanding shoe bench is a great option for a bay window, and offers many of the same perks as a more bespoke bench. If you have an extra wide bay, perhaps two benches side by side will fit, or dress your bench with a lamp or tall potted plant either side for some styling and interest. Many of us are guilty of having too many shoes (myself included), so even if the bay window isn’t directly next to your hallway or everyday cloakroom area, keep this zone for all those extra or special pairs of footwear, such as running shoes, occasional heels and the ones you love but never wear (we all have them).

WORK WITH A VIEW

COFFEE CORNER = SELF CARE

As we all seem to enjoy a cup of coffee (or tea) to solve almost every problem in the UK, why not create a space in your bay window to really embrace this ritual. Dedicating a bay window area to enjoy a hot drink is, in my opinion, considered self care, and so this is your permission to go ahead and indulge a little. Find your favourite armchair, or two. Even better if the chairs can swivel to face the outdoors or indoors as you choose. Add a small side table on which to rest the coffee, along with a really great timeless reading lamp. For cooler seasons, add a cosy throw and a cushion for texture. Now really enjoy a moment of peace in your curated little comfy corner, with a hot cup of coffee. hannahbarnesdesigns.co.uk

CREATE A BREAKFAST MOMENT There really isn’t a more wholesome, idyllic scene than a family gathered around a circular table in a bay window, tucking into breakfast together. Jars of preserves on the table, a pot of coffee and freshly toasted bread... and no screens! Now, whilst this may not exactly describe your hurried mornings rushing the children out the door, whilst you’re trying to find someone’s matching shoe or lunchbox, there may still be a time when your family can enjoy a special moment or two in this space, together.

themselves can be adjusted to suit the shape of the walls, really maximising the space. To elevate the style, choose really nice handles and upholstery fabric you know you’ll love for years. Don’t forget to consider how you’d like to access the items stored away too. Front hinged doors are simple and effective, but drawers can work just as well, especially in a square bay, allowing the items to come forward and be found easily. Otherwise, your bench seat can lift up like a toy box for a simple solution, allowing you to have more creativity on the textures and finish along the front of the seat. For a more bespoke look, and one which suits wider, curvier bays, follow the shape of the window with a concave shape front. You could explore a floating seat style which celebrates a more minimalist look. A floating style bench allows simple baskets to be pushed under the seat to hide clutter.

What a lovely way to work from home – looking out onto a bay window and feeling more connected to life outside your home, perhaps your garden or some window boxes. A freestanding desk is an ideal choice for this spot and can enhance a bay window from an aesthetics perspective, as well as being functional and saving space on the rest of the room. Add a small, simple lamp to highlight your work area without distracting from the view and ensure you opt for a desk with some extra storage to help keep the surface clear of clutter. There’s nothing which will ruin the designer look of a bay window desk more than messy changing cables, paperwork and general clutter.

Interior design is really all about creating spaces where moments in life can happen, so if your bay window is large enough, consider dedicating a breakfast nook to this zone and watch it become the centre stage to all your family moments.

JOURNEY Cheshire’s Jessica Whalley shares her story with new book, The Autistic Mom

y background is a rollercoaster of family struggles, social challenges, many jobs, and mental health issues. I’ve always been different – enjoying planning, organizing, and maintaining strict routines. I thought that was just part of my personality. Ten years ago, in 2014, I had my son, and it completely changed my life. Becoming a Mum helped me make the connection to my own neurodivergence. Many women, in particular, are being diagnosed as adults with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and/or ADHD after having children with these conditions. I’m grateful for my journey and have never been happier or more at peace than I am now. BUT it has been a long, hard road.

WHY I WROTE THE AUTISTIC MOM

I wrote The Autistic Mom to help parents and undiagnosed children/adults – especially females, who are often overlooked due to a lack of knowledge. I want parents to know they are not alone. I wanted to offer practical advice to help them and their children navigate neurodivergence. For neurodivergent adults, I share my relatable experiences to help them feel confident in who they are. I also include the valuable

For educators, my hope is that the book will foster understanding of the challenges faced by neurodivergent students. It explains how these conditions impact behaviour (often in unexpected ways), and offers guidance on providing effective support. Neurodivergence doesn’t limit potential – everyone has unique strengths! With this in mind, I am active locally, working with Wade Deacon school in Widnes. I help build relationships within the school community in my role as a female mentor, author, and parent with first-hand experience of neurodivergence. Positive changes are happening in society to reduce the stigma around neurodivergence, and I’m proud to contribute to that movement.

UNDERSTANDING ASC AND ADHD

ADHD affects attention, concentration, hyperactivity, and impulsivity, often interfering with daily functioning. Research shows that autistic brains have reduced connectivity between different regions, while ADHD brains don’t produce or process enough dopamine, impacting cognitive processes. ASC and ADHD are lifelong conditions. Even for “high-functioning” adults who have managed well, stress can significantly heighten symptoms, making it unsustainable to continue without treatment or support. I was diagnosed with ASC first, and a few months later, ADHD. Despite my knowledge, I didn’t realize you could have both conditions together. (It wasn’t until 2013 that they could officially be diagnosed concurrently. Now, we know that over 50% of autistic people likely also have ADHD.) The contrasting traits of ASC and ADHD make living with both more complex. ASC affects how a person makes sense of the world, processes information, and relates to others. NOTHING is ‘wrong’ with us – our brains simply work differently. And differences are necessary in the world.

NEURODIVERGENT PARENTING

Today’s autistic children and children with ADHD will soon be neurodivergent adults. They need support, love, confidence, and understanding to reach their full potential in a world where they are accepted and valued. Like all children, the effort we put into raising them will carry through their lives. Everything we do and say as parents shapes our children. Shouldn’t we teach them to embrace their individuality, accept others, and be truly happy? Neurodivergence is often (though not always) hereditary. It’s common for parents to recognize similar traits in themselves once their child is diagnosed. I believe parents of newly diagnosed children should also be assessed, as it’s highly likely that at least one will have the condition too. Becoming a parent changes your entire environment.

Sensory stimulation intensifies – crying babies, constant physical demands, and new smells. Sleep deprivation causes extreme overwhelm, as your brain struggles to recharge. Your routine is disrupted, and there’s no preparing for the emotional and physical changes until you’re in it. To avoid burnout, ND parents must prioritize rest and self-care. We cannot be the best parents possible if we neglect ourselves. The saying, “You have to look after yourself before you can look after anyone else,” is especially true for ND parents. Many wonder what it’s like to be autistic and a parent. Some of my traits – like hyperfocus and deep learning – have actually benefited my son. Supporting him with routines and detailed repetition comes naturally to me. I’ve learned it’s vital not to compare your child to others. Learn who they are and let them be themselves. Tailor your parenting to their needs, including when and how to gently push them out of their comfort zones to help them reach their potential. Never put your child in a box or limit their possibilities. Receiving a diagnosis doesn’t have to be negative – it can be freeing. It helps you understand why you feel different, giving you the tools to manage challenges and live a happier, more fulfilled life. The world is learning more about neurodivergence every day. With greater awareness, understanding, and compassion, we can build a society where autistic and ADHD individuals are accepted, supported, and celebrated for who they are.
