ABOUT ME:

Hello! My name is Zoriyah Velazquez, and I am currently a junior/undergraduate pursuing a Bachelors degree of Interior Design. Organizing spaces has always been an interest of mine, and through my time at UTA I have been able to explore a variety of ideas! I have exercised different sectors of design such as: Residential, Commercial, Retail, and Education. As I completed each project I have recognized that I resonate most with commercial design! Within my courses I have learned how to: communicate, absorb information quickly, express my thoughts through planning, and so much more!

AIRPORT LOUNGE

The assignment of this design was to create a space where luxury meets culture of a country and city of our choice- Ålesund, Norway. In this project nature and travel join together, making the lounge an artifical fjord that channels people, light, and movement; mimicking the elements of the earth. Where the fjord represents earth and water shaped by time, the aurora represents light and air shaped by energy.

BAR LOUNGE

CULTURAL INTRODUCTION

Ålesund spreads over several islands: Aspøya, Nørvøya, and Hessa, which are surrounded by the Sunnmøre Alps and the Norwegian Sea. This city is a coastal area on Norway’s rugged western seaboard, known for its dramatic setting, maritime heritage, and striking national Art Nouveau architecture. The city is framed by snow-dusted mountains and shimmering fjords — a geography that has deeply shaped both its culture and identity.

CONCEPT

Aurora Northbound is inspired from the coastal elegance and charm of Ålesund, Norway where the incredible fjords meet the ocean. This showcases graceful lines and organic forms mimicing the topography of the beautiful forjds. The lounge offers travelers a calm, restorative sanctuary that reflects the city's heritage and traditions by connecting through nature.

VISIONS IN ABSTRACTION

MUSEUM EXHIBIT

The assignment of this design was to create a museum exhibit that uses pieces from the Amon Carter Museum located in Fort Worth, Texas, and create a new exhibit with it’s own concept. This project was completed with a randomly assigned partner within our studio. We focused on branding and advertising this exhibit along with learning how to work as a team.

BRANDING APPROACH

Our branding displays 3 of the most popular pieces of our artists that we decided to include in our project. We “ripped apart“ the normalcy that’s connected to art as a whole and gave each artist their own abstract feature. The branding completes the concept and solidifies it within the design of our exhibit. We decided to split our exhibit into the features of: nature, form, and lighting and included at least 1 piece of each artist into the subcatagories.

CONCEPT

Visions in Abstraction brings together three groundbreaking women Georgia O’Keeffe, Carlotta Corpron, and Louise Nevelson who transformed the language of modern art. Through painting, photography, and sculpture, they turned abstraction into something bold, intriguing, and unforgettable. Their works invite you not just to look, but to feel: the bloom of color, the flicker of light, and the motion of form.

SKATEBOARD SHOP

The assignment of this design was to create a retail store for any product of our choosing, but instead of going into depth about the concept, we focused on the materials we would place within the shop. Our goal as a team of four was to put the appropriate materials onto surfaces within our store and track: their safety for the environment, their carbon emmissions, and create a schedule for the materials used.

OLLIE ENTRY

CONCEPT

Ollie Haus is a modern industrial skateboard shop where street culture meets hands-on creativity. Customers can shop for merch, streetwear, and design/build their own custom skateboard to try out in a indoor test zone. Built for skaters and creators for all ages, the shop blends striking energy, artistry, and community.
