About the YWCA
The YWCA Greater Harrisburg has been serving the needs of the community for 135 years. Today, we have programs that are empowering women and transforming the lives of thousands of individuals each year.
Our programs including housing services for homeless women and children; violence intervention and prevention programs for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking; free civil legal services for victims; supervised visitation for families; Pre-K Counts and afterschool programs for children; supported employment programs; and housing and employment services for veterans.
Our success is not possible without the support of the community and people who are committed to helping women, children and families thrive in our communities. Every year, we hold a variety of events to raise money in support of our programs. Taking place in April, the 21 Day Racial Equity and Social Justice Challenge leads up to the annual Race Against Racism, which we encourage individuals and organizations to organize and participate in their own. The Veterans Stand Down (VSD) event is open to all homeless, in need and at-risk veterans in our service area. Proceeds from the event will benefit our Veterans Programs. This event takes place in the Fall, around Veteran’s Day.

Give the gift of one night’s safe shelter for a mother and her children. Our Cards With Heart program benefits our emergency shelter programs. Each year, we create a “Card with Heart” from artwork or photography from a local female artist and sell the cards throughout the community. Plans are currently underway for the 2026 event.

First Responders Breakfast & 9-Hole Golf Tournament
Held in October during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Week Without Violence, a global movement to end violence against women, girls and people of color. Our Annual First Responders. The golf tournament is limited to 36 golfers. This event supports the YWCA’s Violence Intervention and Prevention programs.

One of our premiere events, the Pursuit of Justice Purse Auction raises critical funds for the free civil legal services we provide to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking. This event is usually held the first week of December and is a live and silent auction of designer purses and other accessories. Due to limited space at the venue, sponsorships are limited and sold on a first come, first served basis.

YWCA Junior Board Events
The YWCA Junior Board is made of women between the ages of 21-35 who are charged with creating awareness of the YWCA mission and serves to develop leadership and service skills in its members. Each year, the Junior Board holds two fundraising events for the YWCA’s Child Development programs, its Spring Happy Hour in May and Fall Fest in September/October.
