Each edition of Yucatán Today is made with plenty (and I do mean plenty) of love and the best intentions to bring you the best of Yucatán’s culture, destinations, food, and activities. However, every year our October issue is extra special. We all have a “Finado” (a deceased person) whose absence truly hurts; some of us, more than a couple. The Mexican tradition of Día de Muertos, and, in Yucatán’s case specifically, the Días de Finados or Janal Pixan, is an opportunity to devote some time (a few hours, a few days, or even an entire month) to remember them as they were in life, share their memory with friends and family, and feel their presence again. As Ely put it on page 4, to host them at home and tell them about what’s happened in the year they’ve been away.
In this issue we hope you find what you need to prepare your own loved ones’ homecoming, and that these days may be as special to you as they are to us.
