Chris Barton wanted a way to identify songs anywhere he heard them. There wasn’t one – so he invented an app called Shazam. Chris’s creation is nothing short of pure magic. Chris seeks to delight people by using technology to make seemingly impossible ideas come to life. Shazam is just one of them. It changed the way the world discovers music and laid the groundwork for the consumer AI industry we know today In addition to creating Shazam, Chris holds twelve patents and played key roles in the early days of Google and Dropbox Chris’s newest venture, Guard, aims to use AI to detect drowning in swimming pools – a never-before accomplished effort. In his speeches Chris’s story and storytelling completely captivate audiences. Avery Johnson is a former NBA basketball player, NBA coach, and NCAA Men's basketball coach. New Orleans native, Mr. Johnson signed with the Seattle Supersonics in 1988 and went on to play a sixteen-season career with the NBA. Known as "The Little General" for his on-court leadership and diminutive stature, Mr Johnson played with seven different teams, most notably helping guide the San Antonio Spurs to their 1999 NBA Championship Mr Johnson's coaching career began in 2004, when he transitioned from player to assistant coach for the Dallas Mavericks. The following year, he took over as head coach and led the Mavericks to the team's first ever Western Conference Championship and was later named NBA Coach of the Year. He is also a sought-after motivational speaker, known for his fireside chats with Fortune 500 CEOs, as well as his motivational speeches and management training sessions. In 2008, he published his second book, Aspire Higher: Winning On and Off the Court with Determination, Discipline and Decisions. In early 2020, Avery Johnson and John Bailey formed Allan Bailey Johnson Group, LLC, a national minority owned and operated commercial real estate advisory firm.

In June, I completed a 10-day mission trip into a small village area in Uganda where the people that live there are fighting for basic survival everyday. We went with One City Ministries, a local Tampa-based NGO that focuses on sustainable giving by taking a “teach to fish” approach to everything they do. I went with my oldest daughter, who is 12 years old. We focused on building an aquaponics system in the local community to support sustainable agriculture. It was a great reminder of how fortunate we are.

Being from Buffalo, the home of the chicken wing; (hence the term “Buffalo wings”) they are hands down my favorite food! I'm a glutton for them for the past 15 years I've been very religious about making them every Sunday, and it's now turned into a great tradition with friends and family as well. Buffalo Bills Sundays with chicken wings (deep-fried, of course) is a ritual at the Jordan house!

Liz Babby has already created excitement for our spouse/partner community. She got off to a great start facilitating 2 spouse partner events, one in Jacksonville and one in Tampa. She is busy working on keeping the momentum going. If you have any ideas, look for Liz at the Annual Meeting August 28-29 or send her an email. She would love to hear from you.

There is a NEW WhatsApp group specifically for spouse partners. This will be used to share event announcements and updates, relevant chapter reminders, Needs and Leads and to connect spouses/partners.

As we want to be respectful of your choice to opt in or out of the channel, Here is a link to join the group.

Liz is based in Jacksonville, and she’s looking for enthusiastic members in the Tampa and Sarasota areas to help support local spouse/partner events. If you're interested in lending a hand or helping lead in your region, please reach out—we’d love to have you on board.

We already have four active spouse/partner forums in the chapter and are excited to launch more as interest grows. Forum is a powerful tool for connection, growth, and support— and it’s just as impactful for spouse/partners. If you’re curious about joining a forum (or want to know more about what forum is), connect with Bob, Liz, or Caroline, and we’ll help guide you through the process.

Even if you’re not ready to join a forum right now, we highly encourage all spouse/partners to complete Forum Training. It’s a great way to understand the format, the value it brings, and how it fits into the larger YPO experience.
