( 5,> @,(9 6- 79640:, (5+ :<**,:: -69 @6<;/ As we pass through the holidays and into a new year, our work with Middle Tennessee’s youth holds more than just promise for them — we have the potential to transform the way children across the country are helped. We recently announced a partnership with the state to help ensure that every child aging out of foster care can participate in our transitional living program. It is a level of support that is unprecedented, and we’re grateful to be able to partner with such forward-thinking individuals who see how this necessary program helps our former foster youth. But this level of support is bolstered also by our dedicated staff and those who give their time and resources. It shows our youth a level of commitment they may have never seen before. From sprucing up our group homes to taking young people Christmas shopping, our volunteers step up every year to help us provide not only support, but also a lasting happy memory for children in our programs. Because of your efforts, children received holiday presents, school supplies, job trainings, and so much more. Because of you, children in our programs saw and experienced a community that had their back and was willing to get out and show them how to navigate this world. Because of you, many youth who experienced horrible and traumatic childhoods of abuse and neglect saw a community of people who care. I’m excited about the possibilities of 2014, and I’m thankful you’ve chosen to help Youth Villages. Your help has directly affected not only how many young people we’re able to help, but also how much more help we’re able to give each child. Thank you for making that possible.

In September, Youth Villages’ Middle Tennessee advisory board hosted a luncheon to honor the charter members of the Red Kite Society in Middle Tennessee. Patrick Lawler, Youth Villages’ CEO, joined the festivities along with a young woman participating in our transitional living program who represented the thousands of young people whose lives have been dramatically and positively changed through these donors’ tremendous generosity. Above, left to right, are Red Kite Society charter members Brenda Hamburg and Middle Tennessee Advisory Board Co-chair Bill Hamburg, with Youth Villages CEO Pat Lawler and J. D. Elliott. Posing for a photo at the luncheon honoring charter members of Youth Villages’ Red Kite Society, left to right, are Youth Villages Middle Tennessee Development Director Patti Bryan, Youth Villages Intercept Director Amanda Futral, Youth Villages Regional Director Nikki Swann, Youth Villages CEO Pat Lawler, Jennifer Rhodes, Youth Villages Executive Director of Tennessee Charmaine Kromer, Youth Villages Middle Tennessee Advisory Board Co-chair Betsy Walkup and advisory board member Lele Thompson.

Youth Villages is deeply grateful to the Middle Tennessee Red Kite Society charter members: Brenda and Bill Hamburg, Dell, HCA Foundation, Healthways Foundation, Dan and Margaret Maddox Charitable Fund, Ken Melkus, Memorial Foundation and Catharine D. Smith.

Through a publicprivate partnership with Youth Villages, Tennessee’s Department of Children’s Services offers intensive communitybased services to each of the more than 1,000 young people who turn 18 in state custody each year without being reunited with their birth families or being adopted. This makes Tennessee the first in the nation to offer comprehensive services to help all foster children who age out of state custody. “Investing in these young people now will mean huge gains not only for them as individuals but for our communities as a whole far into the future,” said Gov. Bill Haslam. You can help thousands of young people in Tennessee. Please donate or volunteer your time to help someone in our TL program. Call 615-2507200 to learn more.
