Program Characteristics • Growth – Fairly steady growth in program admissions since 2001 – More than 6,000 admissions annually since 2010

• Program Information – More than 23,500 youth have been served in In-Home Services – Over 6,000 youth have been served in Residential Treatment – More than 8,900 youth have been served in Foster Care and Transitional Living Programs

Youth may be served in multiple programs

Outcomes

• At Discharge

– Nearly 85% of youth are discharged home with family or are living independently – 90% of parents report satisfaction with Youth Villages’ services

• At One Year Post-Discharge – More than 80% of youth are living home with family or are living independently – Gains made during treatment are sustained (as measured by the SDQ) – Over 80% of youth report no trouble with the law – Almost 90% of youth are in school, have graduated from high school, or are in GED classes; 87% of the youth report adequate school performance and the majority of youth report little to no trouble with teachers or homework – Few youth have experienced an out-of home placement; 7% have been in residential treatment, 3% in a psychiatric hospital, and 6% in a detention or correctional facility – 17% of youth under 18 at the time of follow-up are in state custody; youth who participate in Youth Villages programs are at high risk of placement into state custody at the time of admission

Youth who participate in YV programs are at significantly increased risk of placement into state custody either due to abuse/neglect or delinquency issues.

About our Response Rates Surveys through 03/13 Discharge Surveys

Surveys are conducted by research staff via phone with letter surveys to non-respondents.

Internet search of public records (Lexis-Nexis) is completed to locate accurate contact information

While no consensus exists regarding adequate response rates, 40% - 60% has been identified as appropriate for surveys of this type and size1.

•

Satisfaction surveys (conducted shortly after discharge) are only conducted with families who were involved in the youth’s treatment.

•

A new satisfaction survey was introduced in October 2009; figures reflect only responses to the new survey.

Please note: Surveys are completed with youth/families who have discharged from YV services altogether. If a youth re-enters YV services, the survey cycle is reset and begins again at their discharge.

Rate of re-entry into YV services: 6-Month Follow-up – 6.3% (1,953 out of 31,116) 12-Month Follow-up – 9.4% (2,720 out of 28,786) 24-Month Follow-up – 12.5% (2,986 out of 23,888)
