From Barboursville, West Virginia, comes a young athlete whose passion for baseball is matched only by his strong faith and positive energy meet Gunnar Francis, a standout catcher and pitcher who’s been playing the game since he was just four years old

Gunnar’s love for baseball runs deep “I always just loved baseball,” he says simply, a reflection of a lifelong connection to the game That love has led him to play for Barboursville Little League, CNH, and Warriors Baseball 12U, where he wears #34 and brings a strong presence behind the plate and on the mound

This season brought a special highlight for Gunnar earning a trip to Regionals in Wilson, North Carolina. “That was my favorite sports memory,” he shares. “It meant a lot to compete at that level and experience something big with my team.”

Off the field, Gunnar is a well-rounded kid with a mix of athletic and creative hobbies. He enjoys golf, playing blitzball in the yard, basketball, and kicking back with some video games. It’s that balance of competition and fun that keeps him grounded.

When it comes to team life, Gunnar says the best part is having people around you who always have your back. “You have people to help you on the field and you make great friendships,” he says. “Those friendships mean a lot.”

A fan of both the Pittsburgh Pirates and Vanderbilt, Gunnar looks up to elite pitcher Paul Skenes, but his ultimate role model goes even deeper. “God,” Gunnar says with confidence, “because He is perfect in every way, and we should be the best we can to share the love of God with others.” That perspective shows in how Gunnar plays with integrity, joy, and a quiet strength that sets him apart.

Gunnar Francis is not just building stats he’s building character, friendships, and a foundation for something bigger With faith as his guide and a love for the game fueling his journey, the future is bright for this talented young athlete

BARBOURSVILLE YOUTH SPORTS | WARRIORS BASEBALL | #4 | SECOND BASE

From Huntington, West Virginia, comes a player with a big heart, a smooth glove, and a story full of joy, faith, and family Meet Nash Wells, a second baseman for Barboursville Little League who plays the game with energy, character, and a whole lot of fun.

Nash has been swinging the bat and making plays since he was just four years old, but his love for the game goes even deeper than early memories—it’s a family tradition. “My pawpaw is my inspiration to play baseball,” Nash says proudly. “He was a great player and played until he was in his 60s.” That passion passed down through generations fuels Nash every time he takes the field.

This past fall, Nash hit a major milestone: his first-ever in-thepark home run. “It was during fall ball,” he says. “I’ll never forget it!” Moments like that remind Nash why he loves baseball—and why he keeps pushing to improve.

He plays second base and wears #4, bringing steady defense and team spirit to every game. A fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and West Virginia University, Nash’s favorite player is Nolan Arenado, known for his incredible glove and leadership on and off the field.

But Nash’s talents go far beyond baseball. When he’s not on the diamond, he enjoys playing Fortnite on his PS5, reading Percy Jackson books, hanging out with his two dogs, and—by his own admission—cuddling with his mom (she made him say that, of course). He also keeps busy playing with his “little rat” of a brother—in true big brother fashion.

Nash says the best part of being on a team is simple but powerful: “I love being on a new team each season because I get the chance to make new friends and see my old ones.” He especially values the close-knit friendships he’s formed on his travel team, where teammates have become long-time buddies.

When asked about his biggest role model, Nash doesn’t hesitate. “My pawpaw. Not only was he a really good athlete, but he’s also a really good Christian. He’s shown me that there’s always an opportunity to do the right things and show Christ-like behavior.” It’s a message Nash carries with him into every game, living his values through sportsmanship, kindness, and hard work. With his love for the game, dedication to his team, and a joyful spirit that shines on and off the field, Nash Wells is the kind of athlete who reminds us all why youth sports are something special.

CABELL MIDLAND HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS | 1 DOUBLES & 2 SINGLES

From the first summer clinic at Ritter Park to signing a letter of intent to play college tennis, Maddie Frazier’s journey has been fueled by grit, growth, and a love for the game Hailing from Barboursville, WV, Maddie is currently a senior at Cabell Midland High School, where she shines both on and off the court

Her tennis story started humbly “My mom signed my brother and me up for free tennis clinics every Monday,” Maddie recalls She didn’t start out as a top player earning the 16th and final spot on the team her first year But that early experience sparked something “I started taking lessons after 7th grade because I wanted to be the best I could be,” she says

Now, years later, Maddie plays #1 Doubles and #2 Singles and has officially committed to continue her tennis career at Davis & Elkins College. “The best moment this season was definitely my college signing,” she says. “It was awesome to have my teammates there to support me.”

Her favorite pros? Mirra Andreeva, for being “so young, yet such a weapon,” and Ben Shelton, known for his blazing-fast serve. But it’s not just the global stars that inspire Maddie she also looks up to the Marshall Women’s Tennis Team, her local college team. “They’re so good and so inspiring,” she says.

Maddie’s passion for life extends far beyond the tennis court. She loves riding her dirt bike, hiking and running, and working at the Guyan Country Club tennis facility. She’s actively involved in her Refuel Youth Group, FCA, National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and is even part of the wrestling community at Cabell Midland.

When it comes to team spirit, Maddie lights up. “The best part about being on a team is the camaraderie everyone cheering for each other,” she says. That sense of belonging has been just as important to her development as any backhand or serve.

As for her biggest role model? It’s her dad. “He’s always taught me what it takes to be at the top level,” Maddie shares. “He’s helped me in my ‘ladder-climbing,’ as he calls it, and pushed me to reach the level where I could commit to a solid D2 program.”

With her leadership, humility, and hard-earned success, Maddie Frazier represents everything youth sports are about perseverance, purpose, and passion. She’s heading to the next chapter, but the legacy she leaves at Cabell Midland is one of excellence, encouragement, and a love for the game that started with a simple summer clinic. Keep climbing, Maddie your story is just beginning.

STRONGER TOGETHER: THE POWER OF TEAMWORK FAITH IN SPORTS

Inspired by Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

"Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up " – Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

In sports and in life there’s one truth that never changes: we’re better when we’re in it together. Whether you're playing baseball, soccer, basketball, or any other game, the bond you share with your teammates can make all the difference not just in the score, but in the person you’re becoming.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 reminds us that teamwork isn’t just about passing the ball or cheering from the dugout. It’s about being there for each other in the highs and the lows. A good team celebrates the home runs, but they also rally around each other after a tough game. They pick each other up, literally and spiritually.

Think about the last time you felt down after striking out or missing a play Now think about the teammate who patted your back, smiled, and said, “You’ve got this ” That moment? That’s Ecclesiastes 4:10 in action

That’s what makes a team feel like a family.

Being on a team means learning how to work together, to trust, and to encourage one another. It's not always easy there are challenges, disagreements, and tough losses but that’s when teamwork really shows its strength. You learn that lifting someone else up doesn’t make you weaker. It makes you stronger.

So the next time you take the field, remember: every play, every pass, every cheer matters. Not because you’re doing it alone but because you’re doing it together. Keep working hard. Keep lifting others up. And never forget two are better than one.
