FAITH IN SPORTS

PEACE ON EARTH AND ON THE FIELD

John 14:27 (NIV)“ Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

December is supposed to be a season of peace, but for athletes, it often feels like the opposite. Between tournaments, practices, holiday events, and schoolwork, this time of year can get louder, faster, and more stressful than any packed gym or noisy stadium. It’s easy to feel the pressure to perform, to meet expectations, or to keep up with the pace of everything happening around you.

But in John 14:27, Jesus reminds us that He offers a kind of peace the world can’t give. Not the temporary calm that comes from winning a game, getting a break from school, or finally catching your breath, but a steady, quiet, unshakeable peace that settles deep in your heart. It’s a peace that stays with you in the huddle, on the field, on the bus, and even during the moments when life feels overwhelming.

When the scoreboard is close, when you’re nervous before a big play, or when you’re trying to balance sports with everything else going on this month, remember that God’s peace doesn’t depend on circumstances. You can step onto any field or court with confidence, not because everything is perfect, but because Jesus is with you.

This Christmas season, let His peace guide your attitude, your effort, and the way you handle victories and setbacks. And as you experience His peace, look for chances to spread it to your teammates, through encouragement, patience, and the way you carry yourself.

Because in a world full of noise, an athlete who plays with Christ’s peace stands out like a light on a winter night.
