2025 Spring Appeal (Marin)

FOR GENERATIONS, WOMEN HAVE BROKEN BARRIERS, INSPIRED OPPORTUNITY, AND FOUGHT FOR JUSTICE.

Dear <name>, Imagine a world without the bravery of Ruby Bridges The courage of Malala Yousafzai The activism of Gloria Steinem The perseverance of Jocelyn Pierce. Baking cakes and desserts was originally just a hobby, something I did on my kids’ birthdays or for work potlucks. I never let myself believe that something that brings me such joy could be my career, let alone something that could support my family, especially as a single mom. And in any case, I had no clue on where to start to make any of that happen. But then I came across an advertisement for YWCA’s Entrepreneurship Program and it seemed too good to be true! It was free and classes were virtual, allowing me to maintain my day job while pursuing my dream. I applied, was accepted, and within the span of the eight-week program I developed a business plan, website, and a brand for my dessert catering business. Just as importantly, I gained the self confidence that my dream could become a reality. In addition to the business knowledge, I developed a network of uplifting women that were in my cohort. We were in this together! They were the first ones I told when I booked my first catering gig. I will forever be grateful to YWCA for creating a program that met me right where I was at - unsure, nervous, but hopeful for a future of financial independence and a fulfilling career. Your YWCA stood by Jocelyn when she needed it most.
