Corn tostaditas topped with fresh tilapia ceviche and tamarind and tomato chutney is a perfect small plate. The shrimp cakes served over a bed of roasted kale and corn have an incredible smokey BBQ flavor, making them a close second. Don’t forget your veggies. Alameda Point Antiques Faire

Black Friday and Cyber Monday have nothing on the first Sunday of each month. That’s when Alameda Point, the former home of the Alameda Naval Air Station, turns into a shopper’s paradise. Showcasing more than 800 dealers on the old aircraft runways, the Alameda Point Antiques Faire is a one-stop outdoor shop for vintage and antique home decorations, clothing, furniture, jewelry, art, pottery, books and other collectibles. All items are guaranteed to be 20 years old or older. With a goal of seeing what the Antiques Faire is all about, a friend and I headed out to Alameda Point on the first Sunday of March, arriving around noon, which was apparently well after the morning crowd had dissipated. I’m not much of an antiques person, but I was drawn in by the various dealers featuring upcycled goods. From old windows turned into chalkboards and magnet boards, tables fashioned from old doors, mirrors that can serve as plate chargers and vintage wooden boxes used to create drawers under an old army cot, you can find everything you need to bring some of your home decor Pinterest pins to life. It appears that regulars to the Antiques Faire have a shopping strategy strategy. If you’re looking for something in particular, ar arrive early. If you want a bargain, stay late, or arrive a towards the end of the day. It’s when dealers d are more in a bargaining mood than a “repacking their trucks” mood. Don’t let hhunger pangs iinterrupt your shopping. There sh ar are dozens of food tr trucks serving up cu cuisine from around the globe for your dining pleasure. din
With the San Francisco skyline and the Bay Bridge in the background, on a nice day, you can enjoy lunch with an amazing view. Or, in keeping in the spirit of “everything old is new again,” if time permits, stop in Oakland’s Uptown district for brunch or lunch. The area has turned into a haven for foodies and it’s just a few minutes drive from m the Webster Street Tube. Once home to the Oakland Floral Depot building, Flora’s art deco decor will draw you right in. They also have one of the best grass fed burgers I have ever eaten. Duende is housed in the same building. Their tapas earn four stars. Or, indulge in fried chicken benedict with Creole mustard hollandaise at Pican. Things to know: The Antiques Faire is located at 2900 Navy Way in Alameda. Parking and shuttles from the parking lot to the faire entrance are free. Pets and smoking are not allowed. Admission is $15 for those arriving between 6 and 7:30am, $10 between 7:30 and 9am and $5 after 9 am. There is no admittance after 3pm. Children under 15 are free with a paying adult.
