Donors make scholarships The Women’s Resource Center recently awarded 22 scholarships of $1,000 each. This year’s class represented women who are pursuing degrees in everything from nursing to the social sciences. “Helping people get an education is one of the greatest things you can do in your life,” said Betty Schoenbaum, a longtime WRC supporter who funded 10 scholarships this year. “I admire you all.”

Visitor impressed with wallet return Consider Wayne Moyle’s recent plight — on vacation in Siesta Key, 1,500 miles from home in Ottawa, Ontario. And missing his wallet. He tried to retrace his bike ride on the key to find it, but nothing. As a last resort, Moyle checked Facebook, and to his surprise, someone was trying to find him. James Patrick Evans, a county firefighter based on Siesta Key, tracked down family members after residents Ralph and Cherie Torunstein found the wallet and turned it in. “A huge and sincere thank you,” Moyle wrote in a note of gratitude. “The honesty and thoughtfulness of Siesta Key residents will be a topic of conversation in Ottawa, and wherever I go, for a long time to come.”
