A golden anniversary Wilkinson Elementary School students, staff and parents got a blast from the past, the present and even the future. The school celebrated its 50th anniversary Dec. 15 with a party themed “Where the Past Meets the Present and Looks to the Future.” As for the past, former Wilkinson principal William H. Muth Jr. attended the celebration as the school, which was founded in 1967 and rebuilt in 2007, looks forward to its future growth.

Community Day Hanukkah Thousands in Sarasota packed up and headed to evacuation shelters, such as this one at Booker High, in advance of Hurricane Irma in September.
Hershorin Schiff Community Day School celebrated Hanukkah the best way it knew how Dec. 16 — together. Families and staff gathered for a night of food and Hanukkah songs sung in Hebrew, sponsored by the Israeli American Council. “To sing the songs in Hebrew and share in traditional foods ... makes the holiday extra special,” organizer Keren Shani-Lifrak said.
