Breaking ground The Church of the Redeemer held a groundbreaking ceremony May 20 for its new Ministry and Education Centre building. The event kicked off the first part of a threephase expansion plan. The Rev. Fred Robinson, the church’s director, said the three-story building will be needed as the church grows.

Top teacher Lem Andrews, a college and career adviser at Booker High School, was honored as the Barnes & Noble Teacher of the Year for 2018. Andrews was nominated by student Ellen Bausback and was chosen from more than 4,700 entries nationwide in the Barnes & Noble My Favorite Teacher Contest. Andrews received $5,000 and was recognized at a celebration at Booker High School, which also received $5,000.
