Special guests serve kids lunch
National School Lunch Week meant students were treated to VIP guest servers from the school district staff, law enforcement, elected officials and other first responders, including Chip Cone and Kristi Jarvis, above. Through the national theme, “School Lunch: What’s on Your Playlist?” students were given healthy choices each day. The week emphasized the importance of a healthy body, healthy mind and healthy approach to learning.

Students’ art takes top prizes What do a sun, flamingo, lion and manatee all have in common? They represent health in the eyes of Sarasota middle school students. In a search for a new health mascot, Vivida Health Plan’s held a student art contest that received 120 entries from students in the Southwest Florida area. The work from Sarasota students took the top four prizes. Nela Pawluczuk won the overall grand prize for her sun, Kaylie Nicely won first prize for her flamingo, Brooke Flenard won second prize for her lion, and Stryker Gruhl won third prize for his manatee.
