New cop ready to collar criminals The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office just added a new member to its team. He sports a brown and black coat, two pointy ears, oh, and four legs. Enzo, a 1-year-old German shepherd, partnered up with Deputy Shane Watson as part of the Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit. The duo completed 600 hours of training in obedience, agility, building and area searches, tracking, criminal apprehension and narcotics detection. Enzo’s first day on the job was July 17, which makes him the sixth member of the K-9 Unit.
SMA cadets raise money for home
Sarasota Military Academy middle school’s Interact Club recently raised $1,950 as part of its annual service project to build a house in Haiti for the Haitian Health Foundation. “This program is important because it provides shelter and protection from weather for people who can’t afford a home,” said Emily Brooks, a sixth grade cadet. “It makes me feel good because I am doing something for the community that will impact others.” The home in Haiti is expected to be finished this fall.
