Thanksgiving surprise Thanksgiving came early last week for 75 Gocio Elementary School students when they received Thanksgiving meal packages from Out-of-Door Academy. The annual partnership between the two schools allows for families to be surprised with all the fixings for a holiday meal. Each package came with traditional Thanksgiving foods, a bilingual cookbook, children’s toys and a Publix gift card, so families could purchase a ham or turkey. ODA students delivered the packages Nov. 22.

No sleeping in class allowed With a goal landing in Guinness World Records for the longest medical lesson, John Bielinski Jr., CEO of American Medical Seminars Inc., taught 25 physician assistants for 30 consecutive hours Nov. 16. In a Westin Sarasota ballroom, Bielinski began teaching his seminar at 4 a.m. on everything from the cardiovascular system to behavioral science. Students had to remain awake and alert, though they received the equivalent of a five-minute break every hour. Donation proceeds from the event will go to the Wounded Warrior Project.
