Cars and cigars
Fast cars, cigars and happy dogs — what’s not to like? Such was the scene on South Orange Avenue during the Cars, Cigars and Dogs fundraiser Nov. 7. The event, which benefits the Valor Service Dogs organization, had supporters riding up in their most stylish and luxurious cars for a good cause. Attendees enjoyed Maduro cigars and learned about Valor Service Dogs’ mission of connecting post-9/11 veterans and first responders with PTSD service dogs to help their emotional health. The morning event had plenty of happy dogs from Valor Service Dogs for guests to meet.

Turkey time
Thanksgiving preparations started for Sarasota residents with the help of All Faiths Food Bank during its turkey distribution initiative that began Nov. 7. The initiative, which supports families in need and will run through Nov. 24, started with an event hosted by the Bay Park Conservancy and Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall where All Faiths Food Bank staff passed out more than 700 turkeys. All Faiths Food Bank hopes to provide 9,000 turkeys to people in need this holiday season. Additional distributions are planned at Ed Smith Stadium and elsewhere in days to come.
