A LONGBOAT LEGEND

Happy 90th, Ed! Ed Schaye’s family gathered Aug. 10 to celebrate his 90th birthday at Blu Kouzina on St. Armands Circle. Schaye and his late wife, Harriet, moved to Longboat Key after visiting their son, John Schaye, who worked for Nick Bolletierri at The Colony Beach & Tennis Resort in 1976. They immediately fell in love with Longboat Key and bought at the Colony. The following year, they bought at Seaplace and moved into Winding Oaks in Bay Isles 20 years ago, where Ed lives with his son, John. Ed was active on the boards of the Suncoast Tennis League, CAN Community Health and Designing Women Boutique.

As of Aug. 4, this year’s numbers break several midseason records: number of nests, turtles tagged and different species. Longboat Key alone has 1,326 nests out of the total 5,063. Because females nest every two to three years, many of this year’s nesting turtles are thought to be returning from 2016, according Mote Marine Laboratory,

Among the recreational opportunities for Longboaters: kayaking in Sarasota Bay.

Jake, head of security for the community. A snake was trying to get into Petunia Possum’s house, and she was determined to get it done. This was an important one. Perhaps it should be mentioned that Jake is Walters’ beloved dog. But if you knew Walters, none of the above should come as a surprise. CONTINUED ON PAGE 2
